I walked in just before the lunch rush and decided to sit down and eat. I found a table pretty quickly and pretty much knew what I wanted to eat. I ordered two carne asada tacos, two chicken tacos, and a side of rice and beans. All the food was brought out very quickly. These were some of the best tacos I have had in a while. I have no idea if they gave me the wrong order, or if that's just how they make it at Bernardinos. Other disappointments: rock-hard, unripe avocado (literally too hard to bite) and pico de gallo that was at least 95% diced tomatoes. Are people afraid of cilantro and onions here? I wish i could give -5 review!!! We came in at 7:48pm and were greeted with, "we close at 8". So that means they don't close at 8pm, they close sooner and probably had already cleaned the kitchen. SO RUDE!!! I don't recommend patronizing this place at all!!! Hours of Operation should be Honored if you walk in before they close, not employees ready to leave and making patrons like us feel unwanted and especially me, who is a person who writes reviews, just because they don't want to serve us and go home!!! I had the shrimp fajitas during my first ever visit. Here are the pros: enjoy the flavors, good amount of shrimp, friendly service. Cons: I had one large flour tortilla and was expecting 3-4 smaller ones. Who just eats one large tortilla and the other con was my husband didn't like the chicken chimichanga which was plain, bland, and as he called it "subpar." My daughter had mold on her cheesecake and I told the waiter without making a scene. Then he tried to bring another piece, from the same cake. And then when I got up to the register to pay, she took a phone order!? I wish I had read the tips prior to coming here, but we realized you need to order at the counter first and they will do the rest! They also have a salsa bar but the chips come out and served by a staff. I ordered enchiladas rancheras which came with beans and rice and my hubs ordered the California burrito. Both of our entrees were delicious and are so happy we finally got a chance to eat at TB. My enchiladas were topped off with bell peppers, which was different, but it actually balanced out the saltiness of the cheese enchiladas. The rice and beans were pretty good too and amazing with the house salsa. My hubs burrito reminded me of the burrito at the Mexican restaurant near subway in town,that's filled with beef, fries, cheese and sour cream. Absolutely delicious! Met with a group of a friends for lunch. The address on GPS will take you to the middle of nowhere a street down. Make sure you look for the big sign for it! Not difficult to find. They bring you your food, and check up on you from time to time. They kept me very happy the whole duration. They have a self-served fountain for sodas and water. Prices: $8.93 after tax for a Carne Asada Steak special with soup or salad. Great bang for your buck. I also left a tip in the jar. Food: Very tasty and well seasoned. Comes with rice, beans, and guacamole. Choice of flour or corn tortilla. It came with a choice of soup or salad so I got the beef and vegetables special. Pictures are uploaded on Yelp. Rice was plain. Chips and salsa were fresh, complimentary, and refreshed always. I was full and satisfied. Environment: Small, relatively clean environment. I never would have thought of coming here but I figure I would give all small businesses a try. A little pricier for taco Tuesdays (I think it was $3) but my friend loves them since they load it up nicely in his perspective. I'll give it a try next time. They accommodated the four of us just fine. The turnaround time for tables were quick. It started getting busier when we got there. Medium level volume. Not crowded or super noisy. Yes I bought a cheeseburger combo from a taqueria. Believe it or not; thee absolutely best cheeseburger which I have had in my entire life came from a taco joint in South Central Los Angeles. I've had Kobe beef cheeseburgers, 50/50 burgers that are half beef and half pork, and so many others over the past 50 years. So I gave Bernardino's a shot, in the hope that they couid be just as good. Sadly, their cheeseburgers are a 2 on a 5 scale. The was no sauce on the burger, Their chopped lettuce had carrots in it which is a no no. The cheese looked like a Mexican blend of cheese rather than American cheese. They even call it "Gringo style". Although I did not try their Mexican food; my wife said that they have the best fish tacos in town compared to the other places that she has tried. There might be better elsewhere, time will tell. There were a few other parties dining there, so that's a sign that others like it there. I'll give them one more chance in the future when I try their Mexican food, and update my review. In my opinion they are just average, one good item and one bad item balanced out to average. read more

Being from San Diego, I'm extremely picky about mexican food. I'm loyal to my favorite taco shop there but decided to try this place. Also, being pregnant made me picky. The girl at the register was very nice and welcoming. The taquitos were not that good, they were mostly dry but the guacamole was GREAT. Also, the rice and beans were on point and I loved that I got chips and salsa- which were also great. Knocked one star for the taquitos but this place will be seeing me again. read more

They offer a few different salsas which go perfectly with the fresh chips! They have a sugar free sobe fountain drink that is a great option if you are a diabetic. This awful place has two money traps; one in Ridgecrest and one in Inyokern. I've been to both and neither is worth going back to - unless your tastebuds are addicted to bland, greasy, tasteless mush. At the Ridgecrest location, a $10 order of four tiny tacos was soggy with grease and had ZERO flavor. I asked to exchange this mess for something that cost $6. That fare was unremarkable but they never brought me the difference for which I overpaid. Meanwhile, we were given thin, flavorless chips that had the consistency of deep-fried Kleenex, without benefit of salsa. We had to ask several times before someone finally brought napkins and water. Rebuilding Bernardino's establishment in Ridgecrest that was destroyed by fire was a bigger mistake than not putting down their Alpo Shop in Inyokern. Instead, they should have placed a marble marker on the site that says "Here Lies Bernardino's - A Good Example of a Bad Mexican Restaurant. RIP" UPDATE: RATING REVISED A chance visit last December proved it's always possible to improve. An order of Nachos was absolutely perfect. Table service was good, the food service prompt and the pricing fairly reasonable. read more
