I took my kids here for Thanksgiving, and it was great. My kids loved the food (very rare!). They aren't big eaters, my son got a burger and my other son got their kid pasta. I got the turkey dinner. My little finished his pasta and then ate all my turkey! I was pleasantly surprised (I knew I should have gotten 2!). My kids loved it, and I loved not having to do dishes. Super cute and romantic place in Park Slope. My boyfriend took me here for dinner one night and I was very happy with the hanger steak with peppercorn sauce And the creme brûlée I had for dessert. We ordered the burrata for it appetizer, and that was super delicious as well. My boyfriend ordered the blue cheese mussels, which in his opinion was okay quality. My main complaint was the service. It was a bit annoying because the server seemed to be in a rush to take out order, and also the waiter was a bit annoying, in the sense that, I wasn't even finished eating my food, and he kept coming to ask if I was finished with my food, when he could clearly see that I was not indeed done eating my food. We just felt like we were being rushed, while we were trying to enjoy a romantic evening chatting and enjoying our food. Also keep in my mind that, we were the only people they were serving for dinner, besides a couple of people sitting at the bar having drinks. Also keep in mind that they do not accept any card besides American Express, which was also very annoying. What an amazing dinner at this cute bistro! I walked in on a slower rainy evening and was greet by Olivier. I was shocked for a moment. I go out to dine often and have not ever been greeted by the owner himself. The wine menu caught my attention. It had a nice selection that sells by the glass, carafe, and bottle. The server let us taste two kind of reds and we went with the Malbec. It was dry and tannic with a little earthiness to it. It was very bold and paired well with my Cote De Boeuf. The prime rib eye was amazing, cooked perfectly at the temperature I had requested it to be. I substituted the sides for some mashed potatoes and french beans which were a delight. The escargot was cooked in a nice garlic butter that I had finished off with some bread. However, the escargot seemed way overcooked for me to truly enjoy it. Next time, I'll try the foie gras instead. *CASH ONLY & AMERICAN EXPRESS (MIN. $10) There's an atm inside by the bathroom but will charge a small fee per usage. Lovely French place with good brunch food and great service! We ordered the steak and eggs and lamb sausage sandwich. The steak and eggs was cooked well and very reasonably priced at $16. I wish the sandwich came with a couple more sausage links, but it was flavorful and tasty nonetheless. The bread they toasted was really good. I also highly recommend getting the creme brûlée for dessert. It looks like they run daily deals such as $1 oysters or 3-course dinners which I'm very interested in coming back to try. read more

We really enjoyed this quaint French restaurant on an avenue with a limited number of real restaurants. Without a reservation we were warmly greeted at the door and given a choice of tables, we chose one far in the corner so our party could not be interrupted by other peoples conversation. The service was very prompt and warm and we got our drinks served very quickly. I liked their decent selection of beers. Our main course orders were then promptly taken and we received our food pretty darn quick too. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our four different meals with no complaints at all. The French toast for brunch was fantastic while the Grilled Pork for dinner was impressive. The sunchokes really added a nice unique touch to the flavor of the meal. None of the creamy fattiness pate should have. And it was served with what seemed like pieces of browned wonder bread. Salad Nicoise also seemed like old leftovers, with dry seared tuna, soggy vegetables, and old dressing. Really bad. Will never go there order from them again. read more

So, I've been to this restaurant between 5-6 times. It's been hit or miss. Terribly awesome and horribly bland. Haven't had consistency. The service is excellent, that I cannot complain about at all. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I do not like how they ONLY accept American Express or cash. The food. The food, it's partially great. Some dishes are really good. I've tried re-ordering the same however that hasn't worked. First time or second they're good. Sometimes. They're not consistent. Possibly different chef? Tired chef? Today I had the mushroom risotto. Absolutely ridiculously bland. I did not finish. Not worth my calories. No salt. No flavor. The worst risotto I've ever had. The steaks are great once in a while. Hard to mess up salt and pepper. ;) Except one time, the steak was paired with a SUPER bitter leafy green. The waitress was very nice and the food was great, BUT (1) they have a cash and AmEx only policy that I wasn't aware of ahead of time and that I find VERY sketchy--and they have an on-site ATM with a cash limit so, if you didn't bring cash, it ends up adding up to another $2-5 to the cost of your meal. (2) I'm lactose intolerant but the prix fixe (the only choice on Valentine's Day) didn't have a lactose free option, so I couldn't eat 2 of the 4 courses. That's okay, that's on me for not checking ahead of time. I initially said no soup and no dessert, but when the waitress came back with our drink order, I asked if I could get a dessert to go instead for my boyfriend. She brought the menu back and he chose one and she said she would put in the order. The dessert never came and the check did, so I asked the other waitress about it. She was confused and said she'd go look. Then a man who I assume is the manager came over while my boyfriend was in the bathroom, and he very brusquely said, "We took the dessert off the bill since you were allergic." Oh. Okay. Well, that was fine, so I said thank you, but then I actually looked at the bill to see how they took it off. Friends, they not only didn't take it off, they charged us for both prix fixes and ADDED an a la carte appetizer and entre. We flagged the second waitress, who looked at it and said she wasn't sure what went wrong. The man came back and started to tell me very adamantly that I was wrong and that he had given me a discount because he didn't charge me for the dessert or soup--but then he looked at it more closely and saw his mistake. He did then apologize several times, and they fixed it and took off for the soup and dessert, which was very nice of them, but this guy's weirdly accusatory customer service REALLY put me off. I don't care about a mistake--I care about the manager not being aggressively condescending. He and the other waitress then threw the first waitress under the bus, saying she was new, which I thought was really unprofessional and gross. (3) They also were VERY overbooked--it was total chaos with four groups waiting in the very small entrance when we left. It was Valentine's Day, so I think they just underestimated the time for their four-course prix fixe, but I felt really bad for all the people with reservations who seemed to be waiting for quite some time. Wonderful for lunch. Excellent two-course lunch meal: $20 for app and main. The french onion soup was rich and satisfying, and the steak frites was excellent: steak nicely-cooked; fries crispy and hot. The salade nicoise was excellent, too; though it was missing its pommes and its haricots verts, the butter lettuce was perfectly dressed. Came here for brunch on a Saturday morning around 11am; very easy to get a table though it started filling up with time. Seating was comfortable and service was friendly. I ordered the Eggs Norvegiene, my husband got La Tartine D'Olivier (brisket on grilled country bread), and friends also got the Eggs Norvegiene and Steak and Eggs. My eggs were poached nicely, spilling over the smoked salmon and soft English muffin; it came with three crispy potato wedges on the side. For dessert, we shared the Moelleux au chocolat (molten chocolate cake with coconut ice cream) and the Tarte Tatin (apple pie with vanilla ice cream). Small cute bistro in Park Slope. Walked in for breakfast and the inside was cute. We got the French toast and egg Florentine--both were good. If you're a French fries person like myself, their fries are nice and crispy . However, we also got some drinks and they were ok, could be better. We also felt kind of rushed by the waitress to finish and head out even though the restaurant was mostly empty and they had plenty of empty tables. I always passed this place on my walk home. Finally, I was able to have dinner with a friend here. We made a reservation for indoor seating. When you enter, they take your temperature. The inside is very cozy and inviting, it reminds me of cafes I visited in Belgium. We ordered the Steak tartare and pate as appetizers. The Steak tartare was served with a small quail egg and bite size pieces of toasted baguette. The pâté was served with a softer triangular bread and an applesauce. Everything was so delicious . The steak tartare was fresh and the pate went SO well with the applesauce. For the entree, we both ordered the chicken with a mashed potatoes . The chicken was very tender and the mashed potatoes was creamy with a touch of pepper. For dessert, I ordered a warm apple tart and wow. I love anything related to apples but this was my favorite . The apples were thinly sliced and rounded delicately into a circle with a crust at the bottom. The apples were warm and served with a dollop of ice cream and a maple syrup. Last, we topped everything off with an espresso and a cappuccino. I don't know what kind of coffee machines they are using but the cappuccino foam was DELICIOUS. And this is without any sugar added. All and all, I had a great time and the owner was very nice and she made wonderful recommendations. Not a fan of the poultry pate, and one of the appetizer specials -fried zucchini flowers- was too thickly (and blandly) coated for their delicate flavor and texture to be appreciated. Olivier Bistro is on a busy-ish street (by Bklyn, not Manhattan standards) but they are growing some climbing plants, so that gives a nice illusion of being separated from the street. The little outdoor area in the front is under and waning (so protects from rain) and dog-friendly. Service is near-perfect. The two severs were very busy but didn't get that frazzled attitude. Yes a couple times they were slow refilling the water - but people be reasonable. Both were working hard and were smiling and friendly. Drinks were very tasty, food also. Prices are reasonable. I don't eat out often so $13 for two eggs (perfectly poached) every so often doesn't frazzle me. Taking one star for 1) them only taking AmEx - no otter cards; and 2) the water in the sink in the bathroom is a mere trickle... grosses me out to think how many people leave that bathroom with dirty hands. This was a great place to catch up with friends, have brunch, and chat over drinks. Chill ambience, natural lighting, and homey vibes. However, there are two things that knocked this review down to a 3. First, the portion sizes are small for the amount you pay. I had the eggs benedict and as you can see from the picture, it was quite minimalistic with only 3 potato wedges on the side. For $13, I was expecting more. It tasted good, pretty up to standards. It's just that eggs benedict are my go-to brunch order, and I've had so much better in other restaurants. Second, the service is inordinately slow. This wasn't a problem for us since we weren't in a rush and took our sweet time, but if I had come just to have a regular brunch fix, I'd definitely grow impatient. There is also one tiny bathroom, which is very dark and quite claustrophobic. Anyway, I enjoyed my visit here for the company, but likely would not go out of my way for a second visit. read more

Poached eggs and spinach with delicious hollandaise on English muffin and a side of potato slices, it was packed with flavor and filled me up. I also tried my friend's French Toast, which I am normally hesitant about because it is too sweet for me. But this light and fluffy bread with strawberries, bananas, and powdered sugar sprinkled on top wasn't too sweet or drowned in syrup like I'm accustomed to - I would definitely recommend it. So I'm from South Slope & I'm all about supporting local business but I really wanted to like this place but it wan not good. I went there for there Quiche which I ordered & she came back to let me know there all out. I told her well done English muffin & sauce on side. It comes and first of all it's not hot, second when I bite into it the eggs were so runny that I gagged. I don't eat raw eggs & that's the taste I got in the back of my mouth. That was it for me. No thank you!! She did come over & ask me if everything was ok & I explained to her but at that point I could not order any thing else. I also had used the bathroom while waiting for my cold eggs & just a heads up-you might want to bring a flash light. It is so dark in there! The best is that they DID NOT remove my $13 cold raw eggs! Never heard of such a thing! I understand everybody is hurting due too Covid but really really??? My be you can use the $13 & go buy some light bulbs at Home Depot for your bathroom. I have seen the Bistro from the bus or a taxi several times. Liked the way it looked but never got a chance to go in. On Thanksgiving Thursday a friend and I went to Olivier's. The place is cozy with a great ambiance that reminds me of a small bistro I went with my parents when I was a child. Was in love right away. The food... well... we ordered fried calamari and escargots to start. Not very Thanksgiving but the escargots had the right balance of garlic and parsley and maybe vermouth. Perfect bite. The calamari were crispy and you did not taste any oil at all. The pink dipping sauce has a hint of heat but works with the calamari making a great marriage. Well, the main courses. My friend chose the bronzino with saffron sauce. Whole fish and perfectly cooked. Flaky, moist, flavorful. Came with a medley of vegetables which can make an entree on its own. I love whole fish and don't mind the bones, actually prefer a whole fish with bones. They add flavor. I chose the Thanksgiving special. Turkey breast with a silky gravy and a medley of leeks, butternut squash and mushrooms. The cranberry sauce had whole cranberries, a bit tart, but we are talking cranberries. The turkey was cooked and was moist and well seasoned. A generous portion. I did enjoy it. For dessert... we shared a cranberry tart with almond ice cream. The sweetness of the ice cream balanced the tartness of the cranberries. A Wow dessert, but, there is another dessert. The chocolate molten with vanilla ice cream. The richness of the chocolate when you cut it open, a flow of incredible hot and lavish dark chocolate... Just book a table or eat at the bar, the molten chocolate dessert is incredible. Very few places know how to do it right. Olivier's is on the top 5 for sure. Sorry no photos. Next time I will take some. The service is impeccable. Olivier is a wonderful host. We came here to celebrate our marriage and we will return every year for our wedding anniversary because it is special and also just happens to be one of the most amazing restaurants in Brooklyn. Was driving somewhere else, but traffic on Gowanus forced me to take an exit - and here I was, looking for a place to eat on sunny Sunday... Olivier's simple decor, relaxed atmosphere, good music, and most importantly, great food won my heart. (They do say the way to the heart is though the stomach, right?) Service is quick and on point. Owner is a darling and checks on everyone. It is a great brunch spot! Bloody Marys (very spicy!), or Bellini if you wish, and very, very good coffee to wake you up. Eggs Norvegiene were absolutely perfect. May be, just may be, the best I ever had. OK, yes, I'll admit it. Best I've had. This morning I was a little stuffy... so I called my doctor and he said "Just head over to Olivier Bistro and order the spicy merguez sandwich... that'll clear you right up". Sweet baby jesus he was right. Have you ever had french mustard before? And I'm not talking about that Dijon crap. I'm talking about the stuff that feels like injecting wasabi directly behind your nasal passage. It's 12 hrs later and I can still feel the burn, but you know what... I can breathe easy. What a sandwich! I was in tears on certain bites. Be warned, if spicy mustard isn't your thing, just ask them to go easy on it. And the fries... they were the most perfect cooked and salted fries I had ever had. I instinctively asked for ketchup when they brought it out, but it was not necessary. Great spot for a date night. I suggest coming here in the summer when they open the walls and make the restaurant appear larger, and filled with that special summer night air. The food was great. They had the biggest mussels that I ever ate. We didn't enjoy the foie gras because it had an overwhelming amount of apple sauce on the bottom which overpowered the gentle flavour the main attraction. We ordered halibut special which was prepared to perfection, and the sides were amazing. I find that too many restaurants have carbs as their sides, and we appreciated the simple yet extremely flavorful preparation of the sides as well. We also ordered the braised beef which was extremely tender and flavorful. Ordered a latte to finish off the meal, and it was done to perfection as well. My brother came from Israel to visit me, of course I gave him a quick tour on my favorite hood in Brooklyn park slope :) I quickly checked for brunch on Yelp and we went to Oliver bistro. It's actually a very chill spot, quiet music, courteous waitress that was always there for us armed with tons of positive attitude. We both had an amazing Norvegiene eggs with salmon & great dressing on top. The only downside we experienced was my brother cappuccino, my brother asked for soy milk which unfortunately was expired long time ago, honestly guys you should be on top of your products you cannot afford blowing up your customers stomach with spoiled milk,good thing the waitress didn't ask too many questions and removed the cup right off the bat. The fresh cup arrived two minutes later with the food we ordered so the bad experience didn't last too long. It seemed like we were the first sit down customers. Friendly is good, but the food - not so much. My medium-well burger came out well and my friend's croque monsieur was burnt on the bottom. Did the chef step out of the kitchen to relieve himself or something? The napkins were dainty - diner like quality, and the dishes were actually Asian. What are bamboo designs doing in a French restaurant? This establish could edge a 3-star review, but it being cash only I had to knock it down a peg. A warm and friendly atmosphere where the food shines for a very reasonable price. Seriously some of the best cooking of the french classics I have had in a long time. A few standouts so far: Burger is rich and juicy Mussels have a rich briney broth perfect for bread Hangar steak with shallot sauce is just classic Omelets made perfectly Eggs Benedict with hollandaise that requires only a dab because its made so well Gazpacho is fresh and smooth, not a salsa soup like so many others Cheese and charcuterie has a great selections And the wine list is short but has some great standouts.
