Pretty decent place to grab food. Service was quick and efficient. We got the bison burger and kale & burrata salad which seemed like popular choices for lunch. The salad was good but underseasoned. I appreciated the apples and pepitas in the salad and the burrata was good. The bison burger was good as well with a sizable patty and we added on maple bacon for an additional $4. The lunch ended up being $50 which is fairly standard for Jasper in high season. read more

I would highly recommend the delicious food from Olive Bistro!!! The flavors of each dish were SUPERIOR!!!! The dining ambiance was friendly, relaxed, refined and inviting! The owner and chef created dishes that used the freshest " farm to market" flavors! I was totally delighted!! We had the orange marinated lamb shank with carrots, potatoes, and onions along with the amazing beet salad the first night. We were so impressed that we went back the very next night! We had the delightful fresh farmers salad with sweet potatoes and pickled beets along with the most outstanding creamed tomato soup ever! Add to that the delightful Farmers burger with sweet potato fries and our taste pallet was over the top satisfied!!! Bravo to this outstanding chef for such an outstanding dining pleasure!!! The food was miserable - I mean really bad. I had chicken Brie sandwich that I swear they stored the chicken with fish because that is what it tasted like. I cut the sandwich in half and there was "chicken" on only one half. The food quality was great. when we went there for late dinner, they had ran out of roasted veggie flatbread and mushroom patty. but we tried their focaccia bread and cauliflower gyoza appetizer which was pretty good. They had good Rigatoni pomodoro and their summit bowl was very hearty and filling. They had great place was a bit pricey though. We came here on the recommendation of my cousin who is a local and comes here frequently. I'll be honest I was a bit skeptical as it is an older looking building, the decor was meh, and the table we were sat at was seriously wobbly. But, OMG THE FOOD here! I was seriously blown away. We ordered the prosciutto and apple flatbread for our appetizer. This was absolutely exquisite, it was complex with so many flavours. Crispy prosciutto, warm apple, toasted hazelnuts, arugula, honey and balsamic drizzle. Just wow, I ate slow savouring every bite of this. And the food only got better. I ordered the Braised Beef Gnocchi, this was so delicious! The beef was so tender you could drop your fork through it. Smothered in a delicious savoury beef gravy, topped with cheese curds and crispy leeks. The pasta was a homemade beet gnocchi the size of pearl onions. This was seriously delicious, I practically licked the plate. My husband had their lamb shank and it was also delicious and the meat was super tender. This is one of those places that you literally just come for the food. Forget the decor and anything else that might make you think twice. Just come here for incredibly amazing food. We stopped here on a Thursday evening. They were only about half full. We waited at the host stand for about 10 minutes, watching the hostess gabbing with customers in the bar. I should have known something was off during those 10 minutes when we noticed none of the tables were eating dinner, and there wasn't much activity among the staff. No waiters/waitresses taking orders or taking food out. Finally, the bus guy came to us, apologized, and sat us at our table, told us the specials, and brought us water. Then we sat. For about 15 more minutes. Finally, a waitress came over, said there was some miscommunication over whose table we were, and took our order. Then, we sat, and sat. We watched other people come in and go through the same thing. The bus guy, really, was the only person we saw. He was working hard. For over an hour, we sat, waiting, and never saw our waitress once. At the one hour and twenty minute mark, a table that came in about 20 minutes behind us finally got their appetizers, and we gave up. We left. Not one employee was in the area to even notice us leaving. We are not impatient customers, ever. We don't complain, even when things go badly. If a restaurant is struggling, and they let us know, we are fine. All it takes is some acknowledgment that things aren't going so well to smooth things over. Even at the door, they could have told us they were running behind, and we could have made a decision whether to stay or not. It isn't difficult to set customers' expectations and keep them happy. This place didn't even try. And, it wasn't just our waitress. It was everyone, except the bus guy. I know the other customers there were having the same experience. It's a shame because they have a nice menu, nice atmosphere, and nice location. But they need to step up their game and teach their staff how to provide service. read more

Amazing find, the dinner we had on our first evening was so good, we returned the next night although our visit in Jasper was only a few days. The second meal was just as perfect. The chef is very talented with his ability to accent flavors with the right balance and mix. In terms of quality, stands with top restaurants in major cities. Recommend the trout and scallops! My mom, sister and I came in for my sisters birthday dinner and had an absolutely amazing time. Some of the best food I have had out in a while, but the absolute star was the level of service. We decided very last minute to have dinner in Jasper and travel in from Edmonton. We called while we were on the road to make a reservation (about 5:30) and asked what the latest reservation we could make was. In the off season the kitchen closes at 9 and the restaurant itself closes at 10, so the staff member assisting us asked if we could be there by 8:30. As we were already on our way, we figured, yes, we could make this work. He must have heard the hesitation in my moms voice because he said he would put us down for 8:45 and if we were early that would be fine. We arrived just after 8:30 and our server Willow was PHENOMINAL. Willow made sure that we did not feel rushed, and actively encouraged us to take our time and enjoy our meal. When it came to dessert, we knew that we were getting very close to closing and so did not want to hold the staff up in getting their closing duties done so asked if we could order dessert to go. We were told that we didn't have to rush on the staffs behalf and that we should take our time to have birthday dessert. I have been a server, I know that it can be frustrating when there is a table that is sticking around, so having that reassurance that we were not being a nuisance was amazing and impressed us more than anything could have. The food was delicious and reasonably priced for the quality of the ingredients and the scale of the restaurant. We were expecting to spend around $100 per person as we ordered wine, appetizers, entrees and desserts and the bill came to just under $70 per person. Honestly we were pleasantly surprised at the price point. We ordered the Saganaki to start, a new experience for us and deliciously crispy on the edges. The lemon Naan bread was a great compliment for the saltiness of the cheese. Entrees: My sister ordered the Crispy Chicken and Brie sandwich and said it was delicious. The serving size of the crispy chicken was very generous and with just the right amount of crunch to the bater. The seasoning on the fries was also top notch. My mom ordered the Moules et Frites as an entree and again the portion size was impressive. Even as a shared appetizer, the amount of muscles felt generous. The garlic dijon cream sauce? Freaking amazing. I would love to bottle that up and take it home. I ordered the market seafood, which was a maple (and ginger I think?) glazed salmon with some sort of puree (I can't remember exactly what) and seasonal vegetables. The vegetables were cooked just right, still some firmness without being raw, the glaze on the salmon was mouth watering and the cook on it was perfection. The puree was also delicious and perfectly textured. I will recommend this place to anyone who asks where to eat in Jasper. Next time will will plan more in advance! read more

My friend Sheila and I had two agendas coming out to Jasper from Calgary on the Easter long weekend. 1. Go and pay a visit to Mount Robson, the largest mountain in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. 2. Go for a nice dinner. We were admittedly snacking in the car a bit, so by the time we got to Jasper, we were looking for something that was not too heavy, but was still a little higher end. Olives is around the corner from our hotel, so we decided to give it a whirl. And it delivered. When we got settled, the waitress brought us out some warm, baked buns with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We each ordered a glass of the house red (which was a blend - I can't remember where the wine was from). However, it was delicious. I usually stick to Cab Sav's, but they sold very little by the glass. The house red was a good choice. Both Sheila and I enjoyed it. For dinner, I ordered the peanut butter chick pea dish, that was served on a bed of mint basmati rice. For me, it was the perfect blend of spicy and savory. Every bite gave me the subtle "burn" of something spicy. The basmati mint rice coupled with it made it yummy and flavorful. There was also lots of chopped onions and peppers in it, so they managed to sneak a few vegetables into me. Sheila ordered the vegetarian lasagne. She enjoyed her meal as well. I would definately go back to Olives on my next trip to Jasper. The whole menu looked pretty good, so I look forward to trying a few more dishes. I posted the pictures of both of our meals, so that you can take a gander Before I wrote the review, I did a search to see if I could find a website with their menu, but sadly I could not find anything. However, I did find a facebook page for the Filia Inn in Jasper (which is the hotel that this restaurant is located in). It looks like Olives just opened in February. This place was pretty decent. Seemed a little on the expensive side, but most dinner places around here are pretty expensive. Husband had the special; some kind of steak with seasonal vegetables. The vegetables were good: roasted butternut squash, roasted zucchini, and beets. The steak itself was kind of "meh". I had the seafood linguine, which was very, very good. Came with shrimp & two scallops. The tomato cream sauce was delicious. The music was nice and pleasant. None of that trashy garbage they play at other places. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, and the staff was very friendly and professional. This is a nice place to come for dinner in Jasper. read more

We were wandering around Jasper and stumbled upon this place. The band was pretty good, but we didn't want to shout over it, so we got a patio seat. It was very nice out there and we were surprised how well the sound was contained. Our servers were incredibly polite and fun, with just the right amount of attention. The menu had options for a wide variety of diets. Our food was fresh, presented nicely, and so tasty! I wasn't very hungry, planned to take half for lunch the next day, but it was so good I had to enjoy it as it was meant to be eaten - fresh! Our drinks and dessert were also delicious. I would bring visitors here if I lived in Jasper, and if I ever visit again I will be here for at least one meal! read more

The best things about this restaurant: patio seating, and the service. We arrived fairly early in the dinner hour (in time for happy hour) and there was only one server working, but he did a great job of keeping up with his tables, and would at least pause to check in ("I'll be right back to take your order") when it got busier - excellent service, and very friendly, too. We sat on the patio, which was lovely. Husband eats meat and I'm vegan, and we chose Olive Bistro because it had a vegan entree on the menu. Husband had elk lasagne and really enjoyed it - not too gamey and the cheeses used were excellent. I had the vegan dragon plate. It was good, but considering that most of this plate was just vegetables (which were cooked to perfection), it wasn't a lot of food. The other restaurants with vegan options we tried had more filling entrees for the price. Their happy hour menu included a number of appetizers, as well as discounts on drinks, which was a plus. (Other places we tried, happy hour prices were just for drinks, not food.) Service and patio were great, and we enjoyed the happy hour options, too. Would recommend to others, but if you're vegan, there are a few other places in town I'd recommend checking out first. read more

We ordered the saganaki and scallops for appies and both were amazing. The scallops came recommended by our server and did not disappoint. Horrible experience! They advertised gluten free on their menu and the waitress asked if it was a preference or an allergy, we made it really clear that I had a severe allergy. I understand that there is a risk of cross contamination at any restaurant, but my burger, which I was really looking forward to since they had gluten free buns, came out with a regular bun. Had one bite and knew I was in trouble. Spent an hour barely breathing, heavily medicating and came close to using my EpiPen before we could even leave. The chickens in the kitchen never came out or apologized. The waitress was very sweet and offered to pay for our meals from her pocket. We still paid for the food that was eaten and left town before the Canada Day fireworks :( read more

We apologize for the rude (but honest) review title, but we just don't know where to start... I'll start with their website... the photo's on the website in no way resemble what this restaurant is serving! I know we are in the middle of nowhere and cannot expect city quality, but this place is desperately poor... shockingly bad... Our server did a great job in trying to keep us happy, but she was working against all odds unfortunately.... The prices are staggering for the quality... as an example we had an appetizer that cost $12... it was advertised as a shared appetizer (phyllo wrapped brie with blackberry compote); this appetizer was about 4 inches long (seemed more mass produced than fresh) and was totally tasteless/boring (certainly not enough for 2 people) and was a soggy pastry with a thin piece of brie, and majestically topped with a blackberry. We also ordered wild mushroom canapés, which were small pieces of mushroom on a piece of the same bread that was served before the meal and again, pretty lame. The restaurant is unbelievably unsophisticated, although the chef (should I say cook) has delusions of grandeur with the descriptions on the menu. The titles of the dishes - and their prices - suggest a significantly higher quality and attention to detail in preparation than was actually provided on the plate! The chickpea curry was by far the best and about the only thing that was half decent out of everything the 4 of us ordered... None of the desserts (other than the gourmet banana split wrapped in a tortilla - really - are you serious??!!!!) are home made... really inexcusable... We finally ended up with a $200 food bill for our worst meal in a long time... and certainly would not recommend or go back... read more

Had a long day of travel, checked into our hotel then needed a bite to eat. We stumbled on this casual looking place. Waiter was very nice and helpful. Started with a martini for $15 that while tasty, barely filled a third of the glass. Chardonnay my friend had wasn't very good. Lager on tap was great. We split a burger that was delicious accompanied by tasty yam fries. I gave this place 4 stars for the burger and service, didn't give it a five due to the drinks issues. read more

The food was not that high quality and on top quite overpriced (that's why you hardly can't see anybody there) and the service was very poor. I felt uncomfortable with the treatment of the waiter. This was my first meal in Jasper. Service was slow, but the food was good. I shared a large Greek salad, and had the wild mushroom fusilli pasta. Both were good -- very good, even, considering the locale. In a major metropolitan area, I'd give it a 3.5 stars, but I am pleasantly surprised by the consistency and the flavor. Local and organic? I'd doubt it, but still enjoyable. My father ordered the BC Salmon and enjoyed it very much. Again, the service could use a pick-me-up, but given that I was on holiday and some local folk from Jasper were chatting with us, I didn't care. It's something that they should be aware of, however. It took, perhaps, fifteen minutes to get a beer, and over an hour for our food to arrive. I'd theoretically return, but given my limited time in Jasper, it remains to be seen whether I will. read more

Only good thing about this restaurant is the nice servers. Disappointed with the food.. I ordered a steak & spaghetti, asking the steak to be medium rare. When it came it was well done and already cut up.. I can cut my own steak, thank you very much. Also ordered their bread basket which apparently is "home made" but when it arrived it wasn't even hot, nor was it warm.. it was cold like it has been in the fridge. I love this restaurant, I go every time I'm in Jasper, and every dish has been delicious. The atmosphere is usually fairly quiet, and romantic. Apparently they have live music certain nights, which I have not experienced yet. I am glad, as I prefer to have a quieter dining experience and be able to converse with the person/people I'm eating with. They have special nights such as wine Wednesdays, with great deals on house wine. They always have appetizer and entree specials, too. My favorite appetizers are the bruschetta, french onion soup, and coconut prawns. I agree with some of the reviews-service can be a slight issue at times. However, it is manageable for me, as I enjoy the restaurant and food so much. I think service can be slow on busy evenings, or if they are short staffed at all. I notice they don't have many employees, probably due to the smaller size of the restaurant. All staff have been pleasant, though. As far as I know, this restaurant is just open for dinner. Reservations are a good idea during high season and on weekends, as it is a smaller restaurant. read more

The Olive Bistro and Lounge in Jasper, AB is one of this small towns greatest restaurants. We recently dined in this fine establishment on January 26, 2016 and was taken in with this fine dining atmosphere. The outside doesn't look like much but once inside, the elegance of candles, soft jazz music with a bit of ecclectic southern style architecture makes this location a great place when visiting Jasper. We ordered the Calamari appetizer with sriracha. The calamari was nicely breaded and cooked just right. My sister ordered the special soup of the day, a creamy tomato with balsamic and feta cheese, while I ordered a rich French Onion with sherry base. We also split a seafood linguine with a creamy asagio rosée with jumbo tiger prawns and hearty sea scallops and basil. For dessert we ate a creamed Red Velvet Cake with cream cheese and raspberry sauce. The dinner was fantastic and between the both of use the bill was very reasonable. Our host the whole time was very courteous, and always came with a smile and offered lots of options for our stay. I highly recommend this location for great dining when visiting Jasper, Alberta Canada. read more

This is a review of my vegan experience at this restaurant. Was frustrated with the lack of vegan reviews for the area on Yelp, so I'm adding mine. Note that I am ok with shared oil/kitchens. I also don't usually check if the beer is vegan. After walking around Jasper for 20 minutes being frustrated with almost everywhere having little in the way of interesting vegan options, my family decided to go to Olive, which was the first place we walked by. Good choice! Our server was perfect, one of the best servers I have ever had. Friendly, helpful, but not obtrusive. Was extremely helpful with finding out about vegan options. The spicy olive and almond appetizer was a good starter, and while the "Leaning Tower of Veggies" meal I got was not the best (the red pepper was undercooked and a bit under-seasoned), the corn it came with was tasty and the meal was overall filling. I should have listened to my server, she recommended the dish above this one on the menu (I forget what it is now, it is the only other vegan option), but I wanted more veggies. Overall, while my meal wasn't the best, the overall experience was still very good, and I would go again to try the other dish on the menu. read more

We had been out seeing some majestic sights in and around Jasper and had a massive craving for wings. I personally ordered the salt and pepper wings (my benchmark for wings) as well as the Hades hot wings. The salt and pepper wings were spot on, perfectly seasoned, thick, juicy and best of all crispy. The Hades hot wings did not disappoint...I love my spices and have some of Dave's gourmet ghost pepper sauce and these wings tasted like that is what they were coated in. I only got through 2 before my stomach said no more, so use caution if you order them. While I'm not a fan of the honey garlic flavour I did sample a couple and the flavour was well balanced. Prices were reasonable, we were all satisfied, but one thing that would make this place better would be a larger selection of draft beers. read more

Owner/ chef must have changed! On several review sites the 2014 reviews were high to very high. In 2015 they changed dramatically. We visited them yesterday and were very disappointed! The service was slow, they were understaffed, 10 min for attending first time and another 10 before the drinks arrived is not a good start. The entree (kalamaris) was average and the (spicy!!) seasoning was al landed on the first (top) pieces The main course, the highly recommended lasagna, was really disappointing. Served in an dog food like oval (which turned and wiggled on the round underplate) there was well cooked lasagne filled with chopped meat an topped with bechamel sauce. By the way: why put corn in it?? And were are the Italian herbs and specific tasting spices? The taste was not refined, reminded me most of microwave type lasagne from the drugstore freezer. We did not tried any desserts or the coffee. High priced for what you get: mediocre service and food. read more

I don't know this place well but I am of the impression that they aren't open for lunch often. Even though they were today (Canada Day) and have a lunch menu. Maybe short staffed or maybe because they aren't open for lunch often, service was very slow. If I can almost get through a pint, that is pretty slow. Between the two of us we ordered a salad and a Bison Burger. There seemed to be a mix up, maybe with the salad but we can't be sure. Mistakes happen, on both sides. The ensuing Caesar Salad was about as anemic as they come. Very small pieces of dull looking lettuce with next to no dressing, cheese or much else. Oh a bit of bacon, croutons and pumpkin seeds (a first). The Bison Burger was pretty good. Bison always seems to be, I am rarely disappointed, and I wasn't here. The fries were very average. Good selection of craft beers, both on tap and otherwise... fairly nice outdoor patio, albeit on a back lane, still some nice views of the mountains. Place needs to work on a few things. Not cheap ($19) for the Bison, which is fairly routine around here but the service and food quality (looking at you Caesar Salad) needs to be better. Came here with my family during our vacation. Most of the restaurants don't have many reviews, so it was hard to tell which ones were good. The restaurant was clean and nice, kind of fancy but you could still come in casual clothes. The service was good, the waitress was really nice, but the food was just mediocre. THERE WAS A HAIR IN THE BISON BURGER. That is just gross. I need to start the review with this since most people won't read the whole thing. The bison burger was overcooked, and they didn't even ask how we wanted it, they just brought it out cooked well done. The vegetarian lasagna was lazily made, nothing but tomato sauce, a few sheets of pasta, and some cheese. I've seen better just about everywhere. The Chicken Souvlaki was pretty good, and the Greek salad was good since there's nothing really complicated about it. The salmon with strawberry sauce was well cooked but something about those flavors just seems off. It kind of tasted like a sweet cereal was mushed up. I think this place tries too hard to have a variety in their menu with Italian, Spanish, Greek, and French food. They should just focus on one type of food and do it well. Also, if you walk around the town, you notice every single restaurant has help wanted signs. Most just ask for waiters or hostesses, but sometimes you see ads for line cooks or chefs. During the busy season, it seems like all the restaurants need a lot of help and it can change the quality of the food since there isn't a consistent chef or cook. I don't think that applies to this place, but something to keep in mind about the town. read more
