My boyfriend and I went to Olfactory NYC in the afternoon for a date and it was SUCH a fun experience. Hannah helped us and she was amazing. She walked us through everything step by step and really helped us pick the right scent for each of us. She was patient, knowledgeable, and made the whole process feel relaxed and exciting. Creating the fragrances together was such a cute activity, and I loved that we both left with scents that actually feel like us. One of my favorite parts was that you get to name your own perfume which made it feel even more personal and special. I would 100% recommend this for a unique date idea or just something different to do. We had the best time

My husband and I came here in September to celebrate our anniversary. We booked a class online and arrived maybe a minute or two late. Several classes we're going on and there were only two staff members available so we were told to explore the bases. It was a nice experience smelling them and figuring out which ones we liked best. We stood around for a bit after finishing the exploration of bases and eventually we were seated. We ended up working with the manager of the store, who was also assisting someone else. I think having to split his time and attention between the both of us took away from the experience a little bit, but not enough to lower the rating... When he was with us, he was attentive, responsive, and provided us with guidance. With this process, your scentologist (idk if that is the title lol) writes down pairing ideas based on feedback and information you provide about fragrances/scents. They then add the scent combo oils on a testing strip and eventually you decide on which one you like best. This is not a very hands-on class where you smell lots of different fragrances to craft your signature scent. I knew that coming in and was fine with it. Honesty, this class left me with a scent that I am in love with and use on a frequent basis! I love that the label is printed and the perfume bottle they use. It looks so cute! Would definitely return. Oh, if you are considering purchase a stand alone base as your perfume, go with Rae! She's amazing!!

Olfactory is a great activity to add to your itinerary. You can make your own perfume for $85 and the intense version for $105. The entire process takes about 20 - 45 mins depending on how long it takes you to decide on the scents. There are a wide variety of scents to choose from and the staff does a great job of explaining the different notes and helping you select the best options.

A friend and I recently visited Olfactory in Union Market and the experience was phenomenal. Sophia guided us through the process and was absolutely wonderful -- patient, knowledgeable, and eager to help me create a scent I truly loved, even when I decided to start over midway -- due to creating an almost identical scent in the past. The space is bright, modern, and surprisingly spacious for the area. The scent creation process is simple yet engaging: you choose a base scent from a colorful wall, and the scentologist blends in additional notes until you find one that suits your nose and body chemistry. You also get to name your fragrance and select a label color, which adds a nice cutesy touch. A few practical things to note -- the bar setup is sleek but may not be ideal for wheelchair users due to elevation, and the bar stools are cumbersome to get in and out of, especially for older guests or anyone with mobility concerns. Additionally, the space between stools felt tight, making it slightly awkward to settle in comfortably. While the process isn't fully hands-on, it's still a fun, interactive experience for individuals , couples, or friends. The beauty of this experience is that it's completely customizable -- as quick or as leisurely as you'd like. At the end, your perfume is displayed on a board for a perfect little photo moment, and you leave with a sleek, 50mL bottle of your custom scent. Your scent is also saved to your profile, so you can easily reorder it when it runs out--or, like me, refer back to it to avoid accidentally creating the same fragrance twice!

DC is constantly changing...there's always some new and creative date night place that pops up and stays for a while....I guess I'm getting older because I've really started to try new things such as colognes and fragrances...it's easy to get hooked...20 bottles later you'll find yourself here...deciding to be a chemist and create your own unique fragrance. I agree with many other reviews...if done right you can be in and out in a little over an hour...there really is no need to rush and today the crowd wasn't too bad at all. It's indeed an experience so I won't spoil it for you...the experience is made unique by the chemist assisting with your creation....at the end of the day you'll get a nice creation and a memorable event. Pro tips. Sophia was really nice and patient with me. 3 hour parking is free in the small underground lot....wear clothes so that you can roll up your sleeves...take your time

Halloween evening I planned a romantic date night with my SO at National Harbor in Maryland…read more While waiting for their arrival, I walked through the retail district, familiarizing myself with the types of shops, and their offerings. A subtle hint had been dropped before that a couple's event, like painting and wine tasting, was of interest. There was a shop offering that experience, along with one that appeared to pair photography with alcohol?!? After further investigation however, I found 'the one's, Wigenton Candle Co. The experience they offered was much more intimate; creating a candle together. Said candle, would of course be used in the future, and each time memories of its creation would come flooding back. I ducked into the shop for an overview and spoke to the owner, Stephanie. After confirming that it was ideal, I made a reservation for a bit later that evening. Come 7:00, my SO and I arrived for our candle-making session. Being Halloween, most people were interested in far different activities, thus we were the only partipants. Stephanie explained the process to us, then had us sit at a crafting station, which had the ingredients we'd need laid out already. Stephanie provided a thorough explanation of each potential fragrance, including its benefits, and popular fragrance combinations. After testing different fragrances, and combinations, we now had all the ingredients necessary to make 'OUR' candle. Stephanie led us through the process of assembling the candle, and explained that it would need to cook for a number of hours before it could be moved. She also recommended that it not be burned for at least 3 days. As we wrapped up, Stephanie shared candle burning tips including making them last, their optimum placement within a room, etc. I asked what the inspiration was for the store. Come to find out Stephanie suffered the ill-effects that many so when burning commercially manufactured candles. They often include harmful ingredients which can negatively effect one's health (short and long-term), and exacerbate asthmatic symptoms. Needless to say, the candles you make in the store, as well as the pre-made candles and other items, such as diffuser oils, contain none of the 'bad stuff'. As we made our way out the door we learned that it's possible to bring one's own food and drink to a couple's session, adding another layer of intimacy. The reaction to the experience from both me and my SO was outstanding. It blew away all the other couple experience options available at the National Harbor, and left us both looking forward to the day (more likely night) that we would first light 'OUR' candle. We can't recommend Wigenton Candle, and Stephanie highly enough. Get there!!! 'Uncle Mike'

She walked us through the process of blending scents, why these candles and oils are health conscious, and pouring our own custom candles. The space itself is bright and inviting, with shelves full of gorgeous candles and décor--it feels like a boutique and creative studio rolled into one. Perfect for a group activity, date night, or even something fun to do on your own. They have multiple items at different price point if you just want to shop!! What really stood out: * Variety of curated scents to choose from (so many amazing combinations!) * Guided experience that's beginner-friendly but still creative * Black-owned business rooted in community and craftsmanship * You leave with a candle that feels personal and luxe and is healthy to burn. Highly recommend booking a session here if you're in the area. I'll definitely be back so worth it!!!
