The conversation had VERY biased statements about people that had moved into HER neighborhood. I walked through the entire shop stopping to seriously look at items, back tracking and crossing them 4 times.. I was not even greeted or any offer of help, I was there at least 10 mins. I left and went into a couple of the other shops to see if they had any options. When asked what I was looking for, wedding party gifts, Both of the other stores said there was a gift shop in the same plaza. I told them how the woman acted in Reunions and in both shops the people laughed and was told that is not an uncommon opinion heard from other people and have also been treated poorly there!!!! It was so unexpected I found it funny!!! I am a big man and was wearing a pink Oxford shirt. Maybe I didn't come appear worthy to shop there.

This store has been open for more than a year and I can't believe me and my credit card haven't found this place earlier.This store is the cutest boutique I have been to in DC! Whether you're looking for a gift for a young women in your life, or looking to expand your wardrobe, a trip to Petworth will definitely pay off!! If you like brands like YA and Tulle, this is the place to go. There are no shortages of cute dresses and tops, with affordable prices (it's also the least expensive boutique I have been to). They also have one rack of vintage clothing, that's all in good shape and look repurposed. I tend to not wear vintage clothes, not cause I am a snob, only because people from the past were really really thin and my modern day thighs won't fit a thing here, but if you're lucky and thin, don't pass this rack by. I want to start off by saying…read morethat I love to support local small businesses and usually give them a healthy amount of grace, but unfortunately there were just too many hiccups that put me into a knot. Firstly, I placed a custom order of thread which is done to ensure you get all of the same dye lot. When I was stitching my canvas I noticed that one of my skeins was a slightly different shade than the others! I checked the rest of the skeins and found a few more that didn't match which is so disappointing. This was not an inexpensive purchase and candidly I don't know if I can trust them with another custom order. Secondly, the markup on their in store canvases is quite a lot. I saw this cute canvas in store and found the same design from the same designer through an online website and they charged a 60% markup! I understand markups as retail space is expensive and if they are ordering from a warehouse. But for a design I could buy myself online- this was nuts! Lastly, the stores is a bit dated. Needlepoint has been around for ages and so has the inventory of this store- they have some beautiful canvas but also a of more dated styles. Overall, I think I'll be looking for a new needlepoint store in the DMV because this place is Knot it.

The Hour specializes in new and vintage merchandise dedicated to one of my most favorite distractions: the cocktail. But not just any cocktail. Oh, no. The cocktail of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. A bygone era when Tom Collins was king, a circle dress hung in any self-respecting woman's closet, and the cocktail party was a regular weekend occurrence. (To drive home their commitment to this epoch, The Hour sells "Mad Men" box sets.) The vintage glass collection here is mesmerizing. I was particularly taken with the cocktail sets -- gorgeous pitchers or shakers plus the requisite sipping glasses -- and a little stand of silver and stone picks. Husband was particularly taken by the flasks, especially a masculine looking glass one with a mahogany brown leather cover. He also wanted to walk out with a fun set of golden Toledo cocktail swords. En garde! I spent a lot of time in the little back room that features cocktail party baubles and accessories any woman would covet, from sparkly rhinestone broaches and silk clutches, to exquisite cocktail rings with oversized flowers and feathered hair pieces. I picked up a funky portable purse hook with a fun, retro design...for some reason I've been wanting one for ages, and where better to buy one than at an independent neighborhood store? Not only is The Hour a completely absorbing place to browse and shop; not only is the merchandise impeccably selected and thoughtfully displayed; not only are the prices fair and the staff friendly; but they have also partnered with St. Coletta of Greater Washington, a non-profit that works with adults with intellectual disabilities. The Hour sells pretty glass coasters and trays made by the St. Coletta community, and for each purchase donates $5 back to St. Coletta.
