I wouldn't recommend Wasting your time with this Needlepoint store. I want to start off by saying that I love to support local small businesses and usually give them a healthy amount of grace, but unfortunately there were just too many hiccups that put me into a knot. Firstly, I placed a custom order of thread which is done to ensure you get all of the same dye lot. When I was stitching my canvas I noticed that one of my skeins was a slightly different shade than the others! I checked the rest of the skeins and found a few more that didn't match which is so disappointing. This was not an inexpensive purchase and candidly I don't know if I can trust them with another custom order. Secondly, the markup on their in store canvases is quite a lot. I saw this cute canvas in store and found the same design from the same designer through an online website and they charged a 60% markup! I understand markups as retail space is expensive and if they are ordering from a warehouse. But for a design I could buy myself online- this was nuts! Lastly, the stores is a bit dated. Needlepoint has been around for ages and so has the inventory of this store- they have some beautiful canvas but also a of more dated styles. Overall, I think I'll be looking for a new needlepoint store in the DMV because this place is Knot it. read more

Came back. Tried again. Walked up to the store at 9:59AM, store opens at 10. Sign on the door said "OPEN". Door was unlocked. I walked in and one employee said "welcome in!". Then, the same lady as my previous review comes over and angrily says "you know, it's not quite 10?". seriously? I am here to patron your business. I read a number of reviews before going and I have to say, many were spot-on. Sales people were not friendly and had to be prodded to be helpful. I left wishing I had shopped elsewhere. This is the place to go in the DMV for needlepoint. They have a massive selection of canvases and every fiber imaginable. More importantly, the entire staff is lovely (including Winnie the shop dog). From the moment I walked in the door I was put off by this place. Went in looking for help and received rudeness. There was a lady sitting at a table and when I asked her for help, she didn't even look up just pointed and said "Back There" - another associate came up and I told her my issue (I needed yarn for a needlepoint project). I have really enjoyed my interactions here. The first time I went I was helped by a shop assistant and she was so incredibly patient and kind with me. She helped me pick out some novice canvases and helped me match colors and pick out thread. She was fantastic. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the other reviews but the selection of thread, canvases, and variety of projects will keep me coming back for more. The shop owner can be a little intimidating and terse, but don't let that dissuade you. There are other employees in the shop if you're looking for more of a customer-facing interaction. Follow on Instagram for more insight into the shop. My only complaint is that I wish they posted more and showcased the canvases they have available like some other shops on Instagram. Pros: -Has a parking lot in Arlington. -Wide selection of materials, including some really beautiful painted canvases. Cons: -The customer service. Or should I say lack thereof. I used to think being ignored or being treated like I'm an idiot by the employees was because I am a young woman and it's a weird Millennial-Boomer relationship (if you want to keep a form of art which your business's bottom line relies on alive, I would be a smidge nicer to the young people who are interested in it, but maybe that's just me), but they do this to my mom who is their age as well. So it's just an overall rudeness. All I ask is that I come in with a question, am acknowledged, and am treated with respect. If you're busy, you can still BE. NICE. TO. YOUR. CUSTOMERS. I was looking for 22-count canvas. When I called the store, they confirmed they had it. I drove over the next day to learn that they do not carry it. I told her I had just called the day before and they confirmed they had it. She could not have cared less. I showed her what I wanted to do and asked her recommendation for using 18-count. She said she cannot tell me what to do. She made no attempt to connect with me as a new customer. Customer service was definitely lacking. While she appeared to have nice inventory, I would not go back because I did not feel welcome. Other needlepoint stores are much more personable and friendly. read more

They have a great selection of thread, ribbon, attachments and canvases. I had some names painted on my grandsons stockings and they did a wonderful job. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is a fantastic shop with many, many painted canvases in stock. The place is welcoming, accessible (as in, friendly and not exclusive as some needlepoint shops can be), and the canvases are beautifully displayed on the walls and on movable racks. It's hard to leave without finding something wonderful to buy. The owner, Laurie, is passionate about needlepoint and has many of her own finished pieces on display throughout the store. Laurie often brings in new merchandise, and has a large assortment of specialized tools for needlepoint on hand. Also you can find just about any fiber you need for your project in many varieties. I'd definitely recommend this shop for anyone who is looking for a new canvas to stitch, who needs some fiber to stitch, or wants to have a piece expertly finished. Hands down, this shop uses the best finishers whether you choose to have your piece made into a pillow (box or knife edge), a wall hanging, or integrated into a small chalkboard or piece with hooks for hanging keys. read more

A small but crammed with goodies needlepoint shop that has a huge assortment of canvasses, threads, needles and notions. The largest inventory and sizes of DMC Perle Cotons in the area. The shop owner is very helpful and can save you from buying the wrong thing for your piece of art. Crocheters working with threads would also find this shop entrancing. I had the audacity to ask if they stocked something slightly outside the store's very narrow focus and was shot down with a snippy tone and a nasty look. Stitching Snobbery I've been here twice and both times left feeling I am from the other side of the stitching tracks because I'm somewhat of a beginner and don't yet know a Milanese from a Lazy Daisy. In fact, as I entered with my sister the second time, I warned her of snobbery. It exceeded my expectations. My sister is brand new to needlepoint and brought with her a kit canvas looking for better quality thread. The sales woman took the canvas in her hands and said with disdain as though she was afraid to touch it, "well, a screen print on interlock. I haven't seen one of these in a long time". She then took the canvas to another employee, who exclaimed with even more haughtiness, "wow, it's been a long time since we've seen something like that". More remarks came about the lack of color on the canvas ... Yes, there is an abundance of lovely hand painted pricey canvases, but there are other stores. Wow. Yes, wow. Amazing selection. And and impressive amount of knowledge in there. I love the classes offered and have recommended them to my needlepoint friends. The owner is great and her worker bees always nice and helpful. I highly recommend this shop for novices to experts. Why is customer service so hard? Not a great first impression. Shop was empty, but it is never a good sign when the staff need to finish a conversation while the customer is standing there awkwardly awaiting attention. There was not even a "we'll be with you in just a minute!" Once it was my turn, I started to say what I was there for, but was interrupted immediately while they conferred on some detail of the earlier conversation. Clearly, my time was not as valuable as whatever it was they had to talk about! Once it was my turn AGAIN, I explained that I was hoping to have help in turning an old needlepoint into a pillow. I made the needlepoint over 40 years ago and it is very precious to me. Without really explaining why this was not something that they did, I was told that I would need to bring my work someplace else and was handed a card. I am still not clear why my needlework was not something they could help with, and would have appreciated a little more attention/information. The disdain was palpable. I guess they are used to dealing with experts and their own regular customers. I drove way out of my way to visit this shop--45 minutes each way. Places like this should be overwhelmingly friendly--they fill an important niche in the world of arts and crafts and they are a dying breed--in order to survive, they need to cultivate and retain good customers. Instead, I left feeling like I wasn't a member of the club and my project wasn't worth their time. Too bad, because it looks like it would've been a nice place to spend my money! read more

I will say that this is a shop that hands down has the most marvelous selection of canvases, threads and approach to engaging their clients in the art of needlepoint. While this is a boutique environment, the owner and her staff are very knowledgeable and willing to help you determine the kinds of threads, canvases and finishing that you would like. While some may find this a costly hobby, I believe that you will find the most wonderful collection of canvases to support the novice or the expert! read more
