Regrettably, The current surge in needlepoint popularity,…read morehas further given this shop owner the opportunity to be even more condescending and rude. Arrogant and aloof! Very dismissive to long-standing customers. I was told finishing was done upstairs...However, it is sent out. Don't bring in a canvas at the beginning of the month. They only ship them to the finisher at the end of the month. Hence a longer wait time, justified by the abundance of business.

I wouldn't recommend Wasting your time with this Needlepoint store. I want to start off by saying…read morethat I love to support local small businesses and usually give them a healthy amount of grace, but unfortunately there were just too many hiccups that put me into a knot. Firstly, I placed a custom order of thread which is done to ensure you get all of the same dye lot. When I was stitching my canvas I noticed that one of my skeins was a slightly different shade than the others! I checked the rest of the skeins and found a few more that didn't match which is so disappointing. This was not an inexpensive purchase and candidly I don't know if I can trust them with another custom order. Secondly, the markup on their in store canvases is quite a lot. I saw this cute canvas in store and found the same design from the same designer through an online website and they charged a 60% markup! I understand markups as retail space is expensive and if they are ordering from a warehouse. But for a design I could buy myself online- this was nuts! Lastly, the stores is a bit dated. Needlepoint has been around for ages and so has the inventory of this store- they have some beautiful canvas but also a of more dated styles. Overall, I think I'll be looking for a new needlepoint store in the DMV because this place is Knot it.

If you're in a store like this for yarn it is a great indication of how you want to expand your horizons as a fiber artist because sourcing is a large component we can oversee since conglomerate yarn is so readily accessible. Big industry yarn its not always the best option to support the field as a whole or for wearing. If you are a beginner fiber artist, just go and see the splendor of seeing this many coveted yarns in one place. I would characterize their selections as deeply saturated, vibrant, textured, and elaborates on different shades and tints of a single color (which gets serious when you are looking for something specific). All their employees are trained to help guide you throughout the maker's process. When you buy your skein of yarn, they even wind it for you, which is such an essential service I really appreciate it.

The instructor (Valerie, I believe) was very detailed in her instructions that included threading a machine, debugging, ironing, sewing different stitches and lengths, assembling and dissembling the machine, and making a mini pillow. After she demoed different steps, she would have us try and wandered the room quickly correcting us if something wasn't quite right. We also had to repeat each action twice to develop the muscle memory. There are classes available for all things a beginning sewer needs to know up to how to make your own bodice at advance levels. The store has patterns, fabric, and take-home kits. If you cannot make a scheduled workshop, you can do the lesson over private instruction. I had followed YouTube instructions before and done lots of searches trying to figure out how to sew with limited success. This class multiplied my knowledge by 1000 and helped me identify what I was doing wrong on my own so I could course correct. If you're interested in learning to sew, this is your place!

You know that feeling when you walk into a store and feel like you are a burden to the staff? Like you aren't wanted there and/or are a nuisance? Well, that is the feeling I had from the very moment I stepped in. And, let me tell you - there are a number of similar reviews from other customers experiencing the same thing. So, the owner needs to learn about customer service, then hire the right folks and train them properly. I'm sure the owner will post a response that defends the awful staff and makes silly excuses- so I'm waiting for that :) I will never spend a penny here and would not recommend wasting any time here. As we were wandering around the store looking for leather recliners we noticed the staff person pass by us, twice, without any recognition at all. As we were leaving we had to pass her and I asked a question as to how long the store had been there as we could not remember it from the past. I truly felt like I was bothering her...She responded like the question annoyed her? or? Anyway, I'm not sure but when we left the store my husband and I both commented on how rude we felt she was! There was only the 1 employee (her) that we noticed so maybe she was having a bad day but we really do not feel the need to return to Random Harvest. There are plenty of places we can seek out a leather recliner from but it was a shame as the experience left us with a bad "taste" in our mouths for the business.
