What a gem!! I would describe this store as primarily a "discount fabric store", the way Ross, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls are discount clothing stores. Almost all the quilting fabric is $8/yard (some is $7/yard, licensed fabric is $13/yard, and Liberty fabric and Kate Fasset fabric are $10-14). I come here every time I'm in the DC/Virginia area to stock up, I highly recommend this store!! read more

Fabric Place Basement - Fabric Stores Near Me - Alexandria, Virginia

One of my favorite fabric stores. Have been going there for years. Appreciate the long-term employees who are knowledgeable about various fabrics and sewing techniques. Also like that a sewing machine repairman is on the premises. read more

This store was so wonderful to visit, and I was able to get everything I needed. Why I only have 3 stars: it was busy on a Saturday, which I expected, but it was hard to find what I needed and where I needed to go. When cutting my fabric the employees felt very standoffish and just looked at me impatiently as I tried to ask a question. I probably bought more fabric than I needed! It was also a little challenging to find the true price, some bolts had multiple prices listed. Overall though they had an amazing selection of fabrics, notions, and materials, and I will certainly be back! read more

Great selection and customer service. Love the button bin too. Got fabric to make drapes, a bed skirt and a slipcover for a headboard read more

My Sister came to visit from R.I. She said she was looking for fabric that she was not able to find in R.I. or Amazon. They had a lot of stock and they had exactly what my Sister was looking for in their cut fabric bin. There selection of fabrics is amazing and the associate who helped us was very helpful and cheerful and she was also from Cranston R.I. I don't sew but when my Sister comes to visit I will definitely be taking her back her again. read more

This is a HUGE place for sewists, and they have competitive prices. I love coming to this store for notions and fabric. I'm not a quilter, but their quilting section has a vast selection. Don't miss the bargain bin as I've found many great fabrics there. read more

I can always depend on the Alexandria location to have just what I need to get my projects finished. They have a good selection of a variety of products, and their products are very reasonably priced. All of their staff are friendly and super helpful. Thank you! read more

Amazing selection of fabric in every style and color, and the staff is always so friendly and helpful. I always leave with exactly what I need! read more

I did a review three years ago and I'm still giving you five stars, but I'm having issues with something that you've done in the quilting fabric department. I feel that you need to go back to putting lines of fabrics together; and the solids need to all be put together. I came into the store around a week ago and wanted multiple colors of one fabric design, I guess you would call it a blender. They are spread out all over the department now put with others of the same color. for example if I want a marbled fabric, or any of the blenders, instead of them all being together, you've put them with all the other let's say purple fabrics. Please go back to how you use to sort the fabrics in the store. I'm at a large bee and the other quilters agree. It's just too time consuming to find everything you need in a line. Thank you for considering that. read more

A little pricy and I wish they had a better selection of upholstery velvet, but I will say the customer service was outstanding. I was a little unsure of what I was doing and how Jin fabric I needed, but I shared my measurements with the staff and they helped me with the perfect amount of fabric to complete my project. read more

Amazing variety of fabrics, trims, buttons, etc.!! Also very helpful and friendly staff. Thank you!

Great service and knowledgable staff. There is a wide selection of fabrics and trims.

They have lots of options for notions and upholstery. They have a decent quantity and quality of cotton for quilting and beginners. I do find their prices pretty standard to high. I wish they had a customer rewards or incentive program. read more

Big selection of fabrics, accessories and trims. My new go-to now that we lost Joann.

Awesomeness! All things sewing in one place. Imagine that. This store is the best in the area. It's clean, organized and the staff is second to none. They're friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Rows, upon rows of fabric, both fashion and home decor. All the usual notions and then some. Quilters haven (I don't quilt-but I know a good quilting selection when I see one). Sewing and quilting classes available as well. read more

Amazing selection. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. I will be back and I always reccomend the place to friends.

Fabric Place Basement has a nice selection of quality fabrics, buttons, and other useful supplies for tailors and designers. The store is well-organized, with a good variety of colors and some interesting design options. I visited once and had a good experience -- I'll definitely be coming back. read more

I called to ask if they had a specific trim in stock before i drove all the way out to the store and the person on the phone was incredibly rude to me. I've shopped at the store before and have had a very good experience so I was pretty surprised. It was the worst customer service experience I've had in a very long time. read more

Found the fabric I needed with the help of store employees - all of whom were very helpful. The selection here is amazing!

Found this place by accident but I am looking to reupholster a chair so I went in. They had a decent selection of fabric, trim, patterns, buttons & everything you would need for a project. They even had indoor/outdoor fabric & designer fabrics too, in every style, type & color imaginable. The restroom was very clean and uniquely decorated. A nice plus when you're out shopping. Unfortunately, not one single staff person greeted me or asked if I needed assistance or even acknowledged my presence & there was a group of 4 of them hanging out where you get good fabric cut, and others walking around in the store. I was there for a good 30 minutes looking at all the options. Makes me think that the customers aren't very important to them and I'm not so sure I would go back there. Needless to say, I left the sore empty handed & didn't not purchase from them. 3 stars is because of having a good selection & prices - 0 for the staff! read more

I love this place- huge inventory/ great prices. The staff is always super helpful and - Austin the store manager is the best. He was so kind to hand deliver the fabric I needed when I was not able to get back to the store. he really cares about the staff and his customers/ a rarity these days! read more

This Place was great! I can see now why all my quilting friends recommended it! I currently live in Japan and was in town for a business trip and was told that this is place to go to get quilting fabric and notions while i had down time. The staff was friendly and was kind enough to help me find the things I was looking for to bring back with me and they have a good selection of fabrics. Needles to say if I come to DC on business I will defiantly be going back. read more

Lovely store with MANY fabric types! I loved how they had the store broken up into sections so you could find the fabric you're searching for a bit easier. The sections were home decor/upholstery, fashion, and quilting. They also had lots of notions, trims, buttons, and plenty more things! Great pricing as well, and loved the discount bin they had FILLED with a variety of fabric! I picked a couple from here- one measured a little over 4 yards, and another was closer to 2 or 3 yards (I forget) so it wasn't only small remnants in there which was great. Donna was so kind and helpful, giving me many tips on where to find things that were on sale and went above and beyond to look for a rain coat fabric in a different color than what they had out on the floor. I will definitely be back and highly recommend others to shop from this place!! read more

This place is just magical and it's staffed by the best people. I knew that someone who used to help me when I worked for a theatre in DC and would go to G Street (rip) all the time was there, but today I met Judith. She was so lovely that it's hard to put into words how much my interaction with her meant to me. Not to mention they have some really amazing barkcloth options right now. They do have a great selection of home decor fabrics But since that's what I'm mostly hunting for, it was great for me. And they have a wide assortment of Olfa rotary blade sizes- including the elusive 11mm that I can only find on Amazon and I would much rather support a local business than Amazon. read more

Great selection of fabrics. Well organized. Staff are welcoming and know their stock. Eager to help.

Bought a cutting mat. It's all off and went back to trade. All are off. Wouldn't take it back due to 14 day return. I've lost two sets of good quilting materials due to a substandard mat. Out a lot of money and they could care less. Off to Walmart got a new one. If you like 2nd or less grade fabric and not worried about a quality product, hey go there. read more

I'm actually really impressed...a lot of these fabric stores I expect to walk in and have it just be quilting fabric, but they had a huge assortment of other textiles such as fashion fabric, upholstery, cotton, and a huge pile of buttons which just makes me happy. Minus one star until I find out about if they have any coupons. I like to feel like I'm getting a deal on my fabrics and who doesn't love saving money. read more

Went to store and it does not open until 10:00 M-F.....Yelp needs to be updated. More to follow.

I went here today for the first time. The selection was great and the prices are too! Two ladies at the cutting area were very nice as was the lady who rang up my purchases. I was able to come away with material for a blouse and a fancy pair of dress pants for $57. read more

The Fabric Place Basement is located around the RIGHT edge of a strip mall that includes Lowes. Just go to the Lowes, turn right, go all the way to the corner (drive, don't walk, it's a long way), and turn right at the Panera bread. I took my daughter here, looking for fake fur for a fur suit she is building. (don't ask) Unfortunately they didn't have exactly what she needed. But what they did have was an impressive collection of just about everything else and helpful staff that were willing to take the time to show her around. This place is a lot nicer (and cleaner) than any Joann fabric we've been to, closer (to Arlington) and more reasonably priced than G Street. What this is is a well stocked fabric and crafts store that with no goal besides helping people with their projects. You may find it's worth going a bit further to shop here. read more

I love Fabric Place Basement, it has everything you need for your next project--quilting, garment construction, upholstery, foam and more. The notions department has a variety of items--thread, zippers, buttons, scissors, etc. A bulletin board at the entrance has all kinds of sewing related information. Everyone is so friendly. It's nice to be around fabric people...and they offer a military discount. read more

Prom.... a magical time of year when sewing folk find themselves scouring the world for the perfect fabrics/notions. Today I spent hours driving around looking for a very specific colored lining and coordinating satin for the existing fashion fabric. I was greeted most cordially on entering the store. Everything was neat and uncluttered. I was offered assistance cheerfully at every turn and Rosalina and Angelina were a joy. I hope I got their names right. The ladies at the counter were awesome. It was the most personal experience I've ever had in a fabric store and I will be patronizing them over and over! Value, selection, customer service...a winning combination !!! read more
