This fabric store has been in business for 30+ years, and I have been a recurring customer for those years. I have spent $$$$ here. I teach dollmaking and other crafts, and have even purchased ready-made African outfits from here for cultural celebrations. The owner and his family have always been friendly, courteous, and helpful. They are one of the few surviving stores that carries the latest African fabrics in the Prince Georges County area. Please give them your business, and regard some of the other negative reviews perhaps as coming from people whose expectations were not met with their idea of an African fabric store. This is not a fancy store, or one like the big chain fabric stores. Admittedly it is arranged in a way that is very different from traditional fabric stores. If you've ever shopped in the garment district in New York in one of its places where fabrics are piled to the ceiling, you'll almost feel like you are in one of those types of stores. This store is loaded with tons of fabrics and sewing notions, as well as jewelry and ready-made outfits. The fabric for the most part is on large heavy rolls, thus it is not easy to move them around a lot as one previous reviewer complained that the owner would not do. The store has its own charm, personality, and atmosphere. Give it a try. If you really want quality fabric, buy here, and put your high expectations to the side, and walk away with the fabric you came to buy. read more

I've shopped there for decades for specialty African fabrics. I watched their children grow up in this family oriented shop. Were I was always greeted with a warm reception. The prices are good and reasonable. The wonderful selection of African fabrics available is inspirational. I don't sew as often these days, so I haven't been there in a while. But this store will always be high on my list of favorites. read more

You can't beat Paradise for the excellent prices on African fabrics and Dutch wax prints, between $4.99 and $6.99 per yard!!! Lots of variety, family owned - helpful staff. Avoid at all cost. The shop had the fabric that I wanted but when I asked him to bring it to the counter (from their side) so that I could see it, I was told " No it's not like that, tell me what you want. No taking them out for you". He was very dismissive and seems to treat customers as though they are only store in that area so you must deal with the lack of customer service and mistreatment. Wow. Horrible service and cluttered store along with rude treatment equals disaster. Walkways cluttered and no room to move around. Stay away from this establishment. read more

My friend and I were rudely asked to leave! I had just finished buying fabric when my friend came. She wanted me to help her pick out some fabric for a skirt. She is new to sewing so I was explaining the difference in fabrics and how to pick one good for her project. After maybe 15 minutes of looking around and talking about what fabric to get, the older male who is usually always there, tells us "It is store policy that we had to buy something or leave so other people won't think they had customers". First of all, that excuse is utterly ridiculous, especially seeing as though I had just bought something. Secondly, we were not being loud, rude, or acting in any way that would prompt him to say anything. This same guy has been rude to me and another customer before, but I overlooked it because this is the closest fabric store to my house. This time was the last straw. I will NEVER shop there again! If you don't like a mess of a place and poor customer service I suggest you don't ether. Save yourself a headache and go to G Street Fabric or anywhere other than here. read more

Great selection of fabrics--some are available per yard, others not. In addition to the fabrics, some already made clothing is available for purchase. Unique jewelry and purses are sold here as well. The aisles in the store are narrow--not wheelchair or stroller friendly. Found the staff to be engaging. read more

Great little place tucked in a strip mall that is overflowing and I mean that literally with all kinds of fabric. Having recently learned how to sew I decided to hit up this place so I can find fabrics to make my own skirts instead of spending outrageous prices for ones already made. The selection of fabrics is so vast that it's almost impossible to see everything on one visit unless you decide to stay for hours picking through fabrics. I gave it a good shot spending nearly 3 hours there and came away with about 100 yards of beautiful fabric. The best part of this trip is with all that fabric I spent under $100. If you are looking for a place that sells quality African prints and other fabric this is your place to go. You will not be disappointed. read more

A gem for textile lovers. No matter what you need this store has it... well, their specialty is African Textiles in my opinion. They also have a great assortment of lace, satin, etc. but their authentic African textiles will make your jaw drop. They have traditional prints as well as contemporary designs. I've been coming here to find fabric, jewelry, and other trinkets for probably over a decade. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Go visit, I always find something I love. read more

This is my favorite place to get great African fabrics from. I've been to another place and it was horrible. They had fabrics piled on the floor in just a sloppy mess. Paradise fabrics is organized and neat. They have soooo much to choose from. It doesn't smell inside and the owners are extremely helpful whenever I have questions. Paradise is also less expensive than the other place that was messy and so tight you couldn't move around. Paradise is also roomy considering the space they have and how fabric they have. I will always come here. And I live 45 minutes away. read more

I came here to get some fabric to sew a dress. The owner has been in business for over 30 years and was very professional and friendly. After I found the lace that I wanted, I showed him a picture of what I wanted to sew and he immediately brought the perfect matching fabric piece. The prices are very reasonable and unlike some other fabric stores that sell these types of material there isn't a minimum amount to purchase to get the fabric. Many years ago this fabric store was clean as well as organized with an owner who was polite and helpful to his customers. Now the store is so cluttered it's hard to get to the fabric you want. If you do find something, you have to navigate and almost be a gymnast to get through the piles of fabric that have fallen on the floor. This shop is a FIRE HAZARD. Some of the fabric has been there for years and it gets put back on tables or stood against a wall after people have stepped all over it. The owner puts shopping carts filled with bolts of fabric outside the store, as advertisement I guess, exposing it to the pollution from the traffic on the busy street. If you need help and friends of the owner stop by, he will ignore you to chat with them. If the owner feels you are taking too long to decide what to purchase, he becomes very rude and dismissive. I no longer shop there because of the rudeness, clutter, and I feel a mouse or worse might be under some of the fallen fabric. This shop was literally 5 minutes from my house and I used to shop there at least once a week or more when I sewed for people years ago. I also use to recommend the shop, BUT NOT ANYMORE. read more

Not a very positive experience. The store was scorching and the older male employee was rude. When I stated the store was hot, the manager told me that it was not hot in the place, it was hot outside. The manager proceeded to badger me to come feel the heat outside and compare it to what I felt inside. Prior to stating the obvious about the heat, a customer who he was checking out was drenched with sweat and made the statement, "It's HOT in here, I don't know how he, the store employee, can stand it." Also, during my fabric browsing, an employee came to work and told me that she almost "died" yesterday from the heat and that the AC was broken. The manager continued to press me to feel outside and compare it to inside the store. He then began to tell me that he was a "healer" and he healed a woman with a bleeding disorder for 11 years in a New York Mental Hospital. He began to ask me about my credentials (what kind of degrees I had) etc....The relevance of his questioning, to the heat in the store, is beyond me. I told him his attitude towards me was bad, he was making me uncomfortable, and that I was ready to leave and not buy a thing. He finally stated the obvious, "The AC is broken" and said he will not, "ever speak to me again". It was a totally bizarre experience that I do not welcome the next time. Disappointing because there are such great reviews here and I was hoping for a better experience. Oh well! read more
