I went in to browse their wallpaper selection and was met with a snooty sales associate. She didn't like my idea for where I wanted to put the wallpaper in my home, and said it was too expensive for me to spruce up my house while we wait another year to upsize. I didn't need much, and once she looked up the price after telling me to look in the back of the book, which said to ask her what current pricing is, it was actually much more affordable than I thought. I had an outstanding experience at Color Wheel. Because I worked and lived nearby for many years, I was well aware of the store's excellent reputation and had frequently stopped in even to buy greeting cards. When we decided to renovate a bathroom and use wallpaper, it was my go-to store first, although it meant a trip from Old Town. Mary was more than patient as I tried to find exactly what I was looking for. She is highly knowledgeable about her inventory (extensive, to say the least) and knew where to look, saving me time and effort. Although I tentatively selected three that would work well, I had to satisfy myself there wasn't another one in the DMV that I hadn't yet seen. She let me check out the books, take them to the tile store, and look at them in the space. I ended up with one she identified, and it looks stunning. Moreover, it was on sale and a great value. Never go here! Been going to this business for years either me or contractors. Called to find out if they had the sample pots of Farrow and Ball. They said yes we have them all. no longer driving so had a friend go by today 6/10 of course they don't have any of the samples. Could not answer basic question about primers. I'm also sending a letter to Farrow and Ball and asking them to drop them as a vendor. How sad when business like this start trolling the bottom. read more

I had two posters framed here and they did an excellent job. I went in and admitted I didn't have a clue what I was doing regarding the framing and I didn't want to spend a ton. They laid out the options from custom to box frame to a normal poster frame. I ended up with one poster frame and one box frame (see pictures), which turned out really well - it looks much more like a painting then a poster which is what I was looking for. I bought shutters for my new condo from Color Wheel almost a year a half ago. Kimberleigh Boswell was an enormous help with information on the products that they carry. Once the decision was made, Kimberleigh kept me up-to-date on the delivery details and the shutters were installed without a hitch. And I love them! They are classy, let in the light on a sunny day, offer complete privacy at night. What more could you ask for? Recently I noticed that the paint on the shutter installed on door was peeling. I called Kimberleigh and she immediately got approval for a replacement. And she, once again, kept me in the loop so I knew when to expect delivery. Now, two years later, I went back to work with Kimberleigh again--this time on window shades. We needed shades for four different rooms, two of which included doors. After an in-store meeting to narrow down the products we liked, Kimberleigh came to our home and helped make amazing selections that suited each room's needs: which shades needed room-darkening, which needed to open from the top, what colors made sense, etc. All this, while working within our budget. In exactly 3 weeks, Abbas came to do the installation of our Hunter Douglas shades. He was friendly, clean, professional, precise, and quick. Our Realtor recommended this place, and after doing some research online, I noticed that several Interior Designers in the area gave this place high marks. One thing that I read is that they carry an imported paint called Farrow and Ball. We just purchased a house in the area, and we weren't planning on going to that extreme. I did however want to pick up a few gallons of Benjamin Moore Regal Select paint with the eggshell sheen. When I came in, I realized right away that this store is the real deal. It's a huge store, and thy carry a couple of other paint brands also, as well as, paint accessories. The gentleman who helped me was friendly and super helpful when it came to selecting the right color, and even a different product for the bathrooms called Benjamin Moore Bath & Spa. Color wheel used to be a lot more artist oriented- you used to be able to go there to buy paints, pens, sketchbooks, supplies, etc. It is no longer an art supply store, rather a place to buy things for home decor. They sell wall coverings and fabrics for the interior of your home, paints, and customing framing/restoration. I miss the old color wheel, but this one is good at what they do. They have plenty of staff who can give you their opinions or at least point you in the right direction. I've gotten a lot of artwork that I've bought in Korea framed here as well as artwork that I have made myself- and they have done a superb job on every piece. Recently I had my oak kitchen cabinets refinished off-site by a craftsman who did all the work by hand. We were using a well-known brand of polyurethane for the final two coats, and when the cabinets came back they were way too shiny. The finish was almost all the way to a high gloss. I was very upset as the job had cost thousands of dollars. I spoke to the polyurethane supplier but did not like their suggestion to use more of the same product but to stir it more. I called Color Wheel in Merrifield, VA. After patiently listening, the staff transferred me to the McLean store, and I spoke with store owner. He suggested doing a light re-sanding and applying a coat of Old Masters satin polyurethane as their satin finish is duller than the satin finishes of other brands. Luckily for me, between the two Color Wheel locations they had four quarts of Old Masters polyurethane. It took two coats of Old Masters instead of one, but the result is a gorgeous soft, satin finish. I am so grateful to Color Wheel for saving my cabinets. I have have always been pleased with Color Wheel's help, but this experience was beyond what I could have hoped for. read more

Unfortunately, they have dropped a lot of good lines and proclaim that Benjamin is the best solution because that's all they sell these days. Not sure how long they will be around with limited selection and too many newbies at the paint counter. Most of the store seems to be stuffed with home furnishings and resembles a trinket shop.
