Bottom Line: A beautiful store full of transitional home décor and furniture. I've been shopping Ballard Design via their catalog for a long time but it's rare that I get to visit a store. The store is even more beautiful and inspirational than the catalog. It was nice to be able to see the quality of items and feel different textiles like the outdoor curtains and bath towels. I also find a lot their furniture, like their office collection, to be very functional. I would describe the overall feel of Ballard Designs items as comfortable but more glitzy and glam than Pottery Barn. I'm sorry to read all of the negative reviews on Yelp - they definitely make me think twice about ordering custom furniture from Ballard. read more

I ordered a vanity stool last June. Received it damaged in Oct and was told it would come in Dec. I call in Dec and they forgot to reorder it. Now it's reordered with no fabric so it's wrong! The craziest part is they are telling me it's a custom order so they can't credit me until they hear from the manufacturer. But remember it's now a plain stool with no fabric so it will be returned anyway! Unbelievable ! About 40 hours on the phone and numerous " product specialist" they offer me a $100 discount once it ships! But it's not evenThe right stool! Never again! read more

We just purchased our 4th carpet from Ballards. We bought the others 6 years ago. We purchased it in person and confirmed that it would be delivered and placed in our living room. We mentioned that since my husband is 80 and mobility impaired what was once nice is now necessary. We once again discussed the need for the carpet to be placed in the living room as we were no longer able to move the furniture when we scheduled the delivery with the company contracted by Ballards for delivery. When the rug was delivered the gentlemen showed us paperwork that said that all they needed to do was unwrap the carpet. When we spoke with Ballards about this issue, they offered to put us in touch with someone who would place the carpet for $200. I will not do business with this company again. Erica read the reviews. I ordered custom chairs on 10/8/25. I have been told multiple times they were shipped. No one really has given me a straight answer. I was told they would take 6-8 weeks. It is a week and half before Christmas and still no chairs. I just called to cancel the order and I was told you can NOT cancel a custom order. This company is a joke. How long do they think people can wait for chairs. Their customer service sucks and they are rude. I will not be purchasing anything from this company again. Easily the worst customer experience ever in 60 years of shopping. We ordered two nightstands two months ago. One arrived very damaged. They couldn't, however, do just an exchange. Instead, we had to send the old nightstand back, process a return, and then order a new one a week or so later after dealing with them on the phone multiple times. And here is where it gets crazy. I kid you not, after being forced to purchase a new nightstand, they sent us back the exact same damaged nightstand we returned in the first place. Same box, same damaged piece and now we have to deal, again, with returning both nightstands because we have lost complete faith in the company being ale to do even the simplest tasks correctly. We will never be purchasing from this store again. And in response to the store response below, We have been trying to deal with the store and still don't have resolution!! read more

If only I had an option for 0 Stars. I didn't realize standard shipping would leave a 4 drawer file cabinet on my front porch in the rain (driver used a dolly to lift it), and expect me to bring it into my house. Also package was not just late, but box was taped together except for the top which was wide opened. The cabinet of course came in damaged on 2 drawer fronts which were pressed wood with the back being stapled with fiberboard. Retail price over $900. I called to return and they can't pick it up unless it's in a box. Well unfortunately the box they sent it in fell apart. Now Ballard is sending a moving company to pick it up in a new box. That takes 2 weeks to schedule while I now have to clean up all of the styrofoam, the old box and look at the damaged file cabinet which I can't move due to its weight sitting in my family room. read more

Ballard Designs operates essentially as a warehouse. I don't blame the staff - I blame the CEO. Heavy, expensive furniture is dropped off as if it were an Amazon delivery for a $10 item. Furniture is never delivered assembled - despite the steep prices. Everything is "made in China" so the packaging is chaotic. Unless you have experience assembling furniture, prepare to pay additional $$. read more

I paid for home delivery and a huge coffee table (part of the order) was left by the shipper in an open area in the lobby. I'm 66 yrs old and live alone. I sent an email to Ballard on Jan 4, 2025. They never responded. I resent the email two days later and then again a couple days later. Today is Jan 14 and they've NEVER replied. I called customer service and she said they were probably too busy to respond due to the holidays. Do not order from Ballard! Very Disapointed: MABEL DITSY FLORAL QUILT FULL/QUEEN MULTI (FQ089 MUL QUN. Very Disappointed in the quality of this expensive coverlet. The only thing quilted about it is the stiching that is not quilted to anything. SOOO thin and not worth $386. So disapointed because the colors are perfect but now I have to buy additional items(no shams were included) another comforter or duvet because this looks like a sheet that I have folded at the end of the bed. Ballard will return it but they are recognized for better quality items. This was soooo poorly made and the back side is ugly, most coverlets are the same on both sides or have a nice piece of fabric on the back side. read more

I had many problems with my order, including a very large coffee table dropped in my lobby instead of my door. I paid for "white glove" delivery which means delivered to my unit, unboxed, set up and removal of all boxes. When the remaining parts of the order arrived today (two chairs), the delivery company said they were not responsible for unpacking the coffee table and removing the coffee table box. They were only responsible for unpacking and disposing the boxes that they delivered (the two chairs). Never again Ballard and judging from the other reviews, I'm not alone in my disgust for this company. Stick with the West Elm family (Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, etc.). We have purchased a lot of furniture, window treatments, lighting, art, and accessories over the years for nearly every room in our house. We've never been disappointed until this year. We ordered a framed print that was damaged in shipping four different times. Yes, that's right. Four shipments and all of them damaged. To their credit, they tefunded the money. However, we also ordered furniture for our sunroom from them. Still waiting on an ottoman. It's been 7 months since ordering and they can't even give me a date when it will ship. I received confirmation that both damaged bookcases were picked up from JB Hunt (Ballard's last mile shipper) by Ballard. On April 19th I received an email from Ballard that confirmed one of the two bookcases was received at the Ballard warehouse? There was no confirmation of a refund, and I was unable to reach the same customer service office to confirm that both bookcases were received or when/what the refund would be. Maddening process. Update...April 30 received notice from my CC company that I was credited for the bookcase and tax. So I called the company for a 5th time to demand the shipping be refunded ($175). Customer service person again agreed there was no reason for this to be held up. But I again have to wait. How about NO process for returns and refunds. Very poor customer service. They are not upfront about shipping issues. if you live in smaller area, beware. it will take 2x as long to reach you and they offer only one day of the week for option for delivery. To cancel order I would have had to pay shopping costs both ways. When it says shipping 1-7 days it doesn't mean it will reach you soon if it is a larger item. In our case shopping means it will ship to a warehouse about 5 hours away and then another 2 hours away and then however many weeks it takes for us to have an available Wednesday for delivery. Actual wait time 34 days Second order, wall art was made Feb 14. Still waiting as of March 31 Third order was a Chandelier marked down about 50%. I'm guessing because the light holders were crooked. My experience with Ballard Designs and their deliver service (JB Hunt) have been terrible. The initial order (T6805469) placed in early November 2023 arrived with damaged items as well as some items not included with the order. As of the end of January 2024, I am still dealing with these issues. The customer service departments with both of these companies have not been able to resolve my issues and I have been given no timeline. I will think twice before I order from Ballard Designs again. When you go to the Ballard Design website, it advertises 20% off and free shipping on hundreds of items. I would like to see the list of the 100s of items they ship for free. One of my items would have been 20% off, the other two were not discounted. My order would have been just over 900.00 and they want me to pay for shipping? I called to see if they would waive shipping charges because my order was for 900.00. They apologized and said they didn't have any free shipping discounts at the moment. Well why are they advertising it that way on their site?? In this day and age, I'm not paying 75.00 to ship 3 pictures and in the crazy event I don't like something pay to ship it back! Over the years, I have ordered a few items from them and was pleased with the product, never the service. However, this time I ordered 2 vanity stools on August 2, it's now late October and just got an email stating they apologize but my order will not be shipping until December 13. This is NOT acceptable, for this is for a client of mine, not for me, and this is highly disappointing for my client and very embarrassing for me. I would have gone elsewhere to a reputable company that would produce it in a timely manner. I called customer service and got the rudest response from the agent. I gave Ballard Designs a second chance after a bad experience several years ago, when I said I'd never order from them again. Same experience in that customer service is the worst I've come across. Ordered a coffee table, had my handyman put it together while watching him, and we notice a very small chip in the $1000 coffee table. I called Ballard Designs customer service and I had 2 options: Either I box the very heavy table back up and get it to them via carrier myself, or I could take a discount on the table. It was such a pain to send it back, that I asked for the discount. They explained that in order to receive the discount, I had to take photos of the chip, send it to Ballard Designs customer service department, and then they would meet to decide what my discount would be. I have the chipped table here now, and will ABSOLUTELY NEVER order from Ballard Designs again. Ever. I ordered a small bistro table from Crate and Barrel, and did not like it after viewing it for a week in my space. I called and they immediately they scheduled the carrier to come out and pick it up. They reimbursed me for the deliver charge, and the minute the table got back to the warehouse I was fully reimbursed for the entire table. I then ordered from them again, another table, and I love it! Ballard Designs, of all of the furniture companies I've dealth with over the years, has the worst customer service. I also purchased the chippendale cloth covered chairs on a previous occasion. that's why I needed soft white color rather than high gloss stark white. I hunted every furniture retailer. the styles are rather extreme for me since I am a senior. I also have the he Mia consol and have decided to purchase two more to mak a longer side by side look. they are pricey but I refuse to settle. everything is holding up just fine. Very disappointed with fabric. It is not durable and does not clean up well. Will have to get my benches recovered with better quality fabric. Also frustrated that the corner part of the bench was not delivered. Had to be reordered. Despite the mistake not being mine, there was no rush on getting the part that wasn't delivered to me.
