Used them to buy lighting in 2018. Went back because the lights stopped working. They claimed they are out of warranty (aren't LED lights supposed to last like 10-20 years?!?!) so can't replace them but kindly offered to sell me new ones. No thanks...I'll go somewhere to get quality lighting that a company will stand behind or I'll pay less someplace else. read more

They had a thorough renovation since we visited last time. Now it's airy, fresh, and thoroughly modern. They told us their Chantilly location features more traditional light fixtures, while this Arlington showroom has more modern stuff. They have reopened but requires an appointment to even visit. Luckily it was a painless process. We emailed them, and they emailed us back confirming the date and time. Jacob was great, friendly, and knowledgeable. Easy to work with. read more

I am very happy with the service I received at Dominion Lighting, and especially with the I received from Joshua Mollet! Joshua's knowledge of lighting is extensive and impressive. He helped me find the perfect under cabinet lights for my kitchen. I can't tell you how much better my kitchen looks, and how much better I can see when I'm preparing food. Delighted is the word that comes to mind when I think of Joshua Mollet and Dominion lighting! read more

We were so impressed by the team when we visited- we had set up an appointment at the recommendation of our interior designer, and we're so thankful we did. While the visit took a few hours, we went over EVERYTHING in detail on our renovation plans and even discovered a few things we had missed. I'd seen a few other reviews from folks frustrated by the appointment-only system, but after our visit, we totally understand why this is their policy. They're not at all like a self-serve or big-box store. They're knowledgeable folks who really took the time to guide us through everything that, frankly, was overwhelming us and stressing us out when we tried doing it on our own. Oh, and they have free refreshments to keep us going. I loved my Perrier :) One thing to make sure you see: they have a light lab towards the back of the space where you can use voice commands to see different lighting schemes. There was one that they call "basic" which mimics run-of-the-mill spec home lighting, and we were embarrassed to see that it was similar to what we have at home. Then they activated the "designed" scheme and it felt TOTALLY different and better. It was like suddenly feeling relaxed. They were smart in doing this, because my wife and I immediately decided to add upgraded recessed lighting into our plans. Dominion is definitely a "must" for anyone thinking about upgrading their home! read more

Great store . Great selection. Very knowledgeable and helpful and professional staff . Worked with Jacob Sarner - couldn't have been happier . 5 stars to Jacob . 5 stars to Dominion read more

My wife and I visited Dominion today for our appointment and it was spectacular! Aside from the beautiful space and fixtures, we were really impressed by the team and how much they knew. They really took the time to listen and understand our needs, and we ended up feeling so excited and inspired about our project. We're even adding in smart switches and Sonos! read more

Dominion Lighting - So this is silly, but we loved this rainbow refraction off the Schonbek crystal display! - Lighting Stores Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

We visited today and were really impressed. Hadn't been here in years and it's very different. We didn't realize that their designers were working by appointment, but they set us up with one while we walked around and they were great. My wife picked out a chandelier that they found for us, and we were able to order several more that we needed for our kitchen and dining room. We didn't even know that they carried Sonos, but they use it in their showroom and were able to get us set with a few speakers we can use on our deck. So happy that we got more accomplished than we expected, and it was really easy. read more

We visited Dominion Electric Supply because we need to replace 14 fixtures in a new house we purchased. While the fixtures on display are lovely, we walked all over the store and no one was available to help. When we asked a young man where the flush mount fixtures were, he said "all over" and didn't get up from his seat. Another customer and his wife were clearly verbally agitated by the lack of customer service, and after someone finally helped them, we ended up leaving. read more

We recently remodeled a 50+ year old house. I needed a specialty bulb for a bathroom fixture. We rode over here from Annandale only to find out "parts" was closed. Susan said she would try and help and found the bulb we needed - above and beyond! Thank you Susan. We were also blown away at the new look! They have completely remodeled the showroom and it is beautiful! Thanks again Susan and we'll be back! read more

Gorgeous space and super knowledgeable designers and staff! Our scheduled appointment allowed us to have the time we needed dedicated to our project. Highly recommend. read more

The customer service in this place is so poor. Both from our experience coming through the door to look at selections for our new home as well as in the parts department. I guess they are so busy they don't much case about our business. And we really wanted to support a local place that has been around for a long time. read more

If you are in the DC Metro area, Dominion Lighting is the best resource for all lighting products. I worked with Joshua on a complex renovation/new build, and his technical and decorative lighting knowledge is vast and he is a joy to work with to boot. Highest recommendation. read more

I will never deal with them again. We started the process of purchasing recessed lights in the summer of 2021. The electrician that we regularly used said that we got the wrong kind. They needed the kind for remodeling homes, and we were given lights for new homes. We took them back, and we were told two different things. Jacob, the sales person with whom we were dealing, said he would exchange the lights. But then another sales person insisted they could be used without the brackets. It was confusing and the person that we dealt with the second time was rude and impatient. He was having a personal conversation on his phone so I guess I interrupted that. The second reason I won't go back is they gave us The wrong recessed lights for our living room. I wanted lights that move so that we could display art on one of the walls. Jacob even suggested that, but then when they arrived, surprise surprise they were just regular recessed lights that we could've gotten from our electrician. We asked them for a drawing of two rooms and he did one. After two reminders, we just decided we were done. Very poor customer service. They really don't give oh darn. If I could give them a zero, I would. They are expensive and useless. Stay away. read more

Wide selection of lamps, fixtures, repair parts. Easy parking (free). Clerk was helpful when I needed to to a different approach.

I've had increasingly wonderful customer support from Dominion the more I work with them. Just recently, I received some of the best support I have ever gotten from any business, period. I cannot recommend them highly enough, and their great service is why I keep coming back, driving the half hour out to Virginia to work with them. This location is a showroom location and has lighting consultants as well as a desk where you can just order stuff. I will comment that if you don't know what you want, it's just about impossible for anyone to help you. The lighting consultants simply don't have the time or ability to read your mind. I personally don't like the showroom pieces very much, but I guess they are good to help you out if you don't have any direction. If you know what you want, the Dominion reps are incredible. The way to get direction is to figure out what manufacturer you want to use, like Lithonia or Spectrum, and then bring the cut sheets to the light shop (Dominion) and figure out your order. Often times I come in knowing I need a couple items, but some things I spec don't work together and I forget little things that I need. The reps at Dominion are incredible at ensuring my orders are correct. The last time I was in, I brought my toddler twin daughters with me. They were wreaking havoc--in a light shop, of all places, where everything is made of glass! It had the potential to ruin our meeting but the reps were just incredible, entertained the girls, and we got the ordering done. Pickup is also extremely easy. They email or call you, and you just show up, pay the balance, and tote your stuff off. At this point I do most of my own ordering of lights and just provide the spec sheets to my electrician and show him what I'm looking to accomplish. I have tried to use other lighting shops in the past and ended up at Dominion anyway. They just get the job done, and if I'm doing the purchasing I am definitely coming back to Dominion. read more

I stopped in the showroom today to check out the variety of pendant lights they have to offer. I was greeted by a salesperson who informed me that the showroom would be closing in 15 minutes. That was no problem for me since I was just taking a quick look around. Then she proceeded to turn out all the lights which greatly impeded shopping for any light fixtures. I confirmed that there were still 15 minutes before closing. Cleary I was made to feel extremely unwelcomed. I am certainly not inclined to return anytime soon. read more

What happened to Dominion Lighting? My husband and I stopped by earlier today and we were told we needed to make an appointment even though it appeared that two employees were not busy. We have spent a lot of money at Dominion over the years. We came home and ordered two outside light fixtures online for a third of the price. Lack of customer service was very disappointing. read more

We have a Kichler light fixture that requires a very specific bulb. I searched online and was only able to find one that wasn't exact and cost over $50. I called Dominion and Ferris took the time to find a workable alternative for less than $10, which was in stock, and could be delivered the following day. Great service and experience! read more

I am with Dan R. I have been there twice, the first time I was completely ignored other than the lovely greeter/receptionist. The second time (this weekend) I was treated rudely and felt like an intruder had just wandered into a private party. The greeter was lovely again but could not get a salesperson to help me. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (but did not look like her lol)- "Big Mistake." The greeter was lovely again but could not get a salesperson to help me. She told me the manager would help me but as soon as the manager was free she served another customer. I was waiting over an hour with many people being helped before me. I was in sweats but if you are in sales pay attention to other clues dummies. I actually wanted to buy a fixture. Finally, Dave or Greg (tall, balding, slouching guy in the middle of the room) deigned to help me by writing the order, he did nothing else and he was rude and snotty the entire time, basically brushing me off. We own two homes and we are renovating both. We have successful careers. I would not normally judge a lampshop clerk but when treated like this I judge. Who do you think you are? You are in a service industry. Rudeness is never acceptable and you are certainly no better than anyone who can walk into your lamp shop and purchase a fixture. If anyone questions this review I have the receipt and any other details to prove this is all accurate and valid. read more

Absolutely NO star from me! I visited the establishment on 12/21/2012 at 11:00 am. I pass the store daily on my way to work and the pieces I see from the street were beautiful which prompted me to stop in. Upon entering the store, I was not greeted! There were several consultants sitting at their desks, uninterrupted and appeared available even for a hello but nothing! After being disappointed, I still looked around the store at several beautiful pieces and NOTHING! No one approached me or offered future assistance! I will NOT patronize this store again and surely not recommend it to fronds or colleagues. I couldn't help but notice other patrons were being assisted but they were Caucasian and I'm not. Just an observation! I will not shop there. I am pleased to have been welcome by Restoration Hardware and purchased several items that I needed. read more

This might be a good source for contractors - but not retail sales of electric parts (front of the store is lamps and we've not used them for year's) The counter staff is inefficient and, most importantly, provide false information. I was told today the defective smoke detector I needed replaced (and purchased there) is no longer made. But they had another brand that would have required swapping out the baseplate in the ceiling. So I went to Home Depot and there they were in both individual packages or "contractor size" packages of four (Amazon required you buy four and delivery took 5 days). Now I remember why I stopped going to Dominion Electric - they don't know what they're talking about matched by terrible service. read more

The customer support here is phenomenal and they had more choices than other lighting stores. Honestly, I can say enough about how easygoing they are. We went during a remodel when they were closed but the manager saw us looking in the window and came out and helped us anyway for about 30 min and set up and appt with a designer the following week for us. We have had a lot of back and forth on emails and budget concerns and Amanda and kelly were super responsive, friendly, understanding etc. I wish more business were run like this. read more

If you need lighting or anything related to the electrical system in your home, this is the place to go. They've got a niced-sized showroom which can give you ideas and they're always changing the fixtures around. Once you get the attention of a salesperson, they are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They can order anything from nearly any manufacturer. If you don't want to settle for builder-grade Home Depot junk, Dominion is the place to go. Probably a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for. read more

I ended up going to Dominion Electric for light bulbs for the chandelier. Turns out, naturally enough, they require a European base. But they were able to sell an insert so that it now will take the smaller American bulbs in the future. Let's hear it for old family businesses over warehouse stores!! read more

Wow, the review from 2 years ago still holds true today. "Once you can get the attention of a salesperson." It is hard to determine whether they are helpful or knowledgeable as they are very practiced at pretending you don't exist. Small wonder brick and mortar stores are going by the wayside. Order from someone else online and have it delivered. read more

I'm with Bob R. There's a certain obvious lack of customer interest from the sales people. And when you can finally encourage one to help you -- they seem mostly unfamiliar with the world of lighting. One told me that it was not possible to buy replacement globes, yet when you go to Home Depot there is a selection of almost 50 different varieties. It's kind of "buy here or don't buy". I want to like Dominion Electric, but they make it very difficult. If you do end up getting someone's attention and they are knowledgable, you can buy some beautiful fixtures there and the prices are not out of line. There is just an overall atmosphere of ennui that makes wanting to spend money there difficult. read more

In the past 25 years, we have moved twice. Through all those years, we relied on Dominion Electric for extensive lighting needed to renovate both homes. We quickly came to appreciate Dominion's people and its products. Dominion's staff consistently demonstrated their knowledge of the latest in lighting, e.g., LED, and the trade-offs in performance and prices. The displays are extensive. You can get a good idea of how the products will look when installed. When I didn't see what I wanted in the showroom, Dominion sales would research far and wide. They always came back to me with the exact item or an alternative. I have worked with some of the same Dominion people from the very start. Not only is the staff knowledgeable, I have come to admire their energy and integrity. In short, I trust Dominion. BJ A. read more

I only go here because I drive by it all the time. Every time I go there, I'm reminded why I avoid this place. I suppose it's fine if you're a contractor getting supplies. For the average homeowner though, this place is awful. I get the feeling that the sales people just want you out of the store so they can get back to their Candy Crush or Words With Friends. They certainly are not interested in helping customers. read more

Needing a wider selection of lights from the usual sources (Home Depot and Lowes) led me to Dominion Electric on Lee Highway in Arlington. Upon entering, you will see a much wider variety of lights. After some initial sticker shock, I zoned in on one fixture, a red tag "special." I have to agree with other yelpers. The sales team at Dominion do not seem like specialists, just plain ordinary folks who happen to be in this job with limited customer service skills or experience in lighting and/or design. My "red tag," while still expensive for what it was turned out to be a broken fixture. All red tag sales are final --- so be careful and actually check the fixtures before you purchase. I learned my lesson. However, my electrician was able to improvise and still use the light, but the whole experience left a somewhat bad taste in my mouth. read more

Incredibly helpful staff...strike a nice balance between being available to answer questions without making you feel smothered. I went in looking for outdoor lighting at the Chantilly location. Even though all the lighting specialist were assisting customers, they still greeted me and made eye contact. I knew it would be a moment and when one was free, she did an outstanding job listening, asking pertinent questions when needed and making me feel that she was there for me. I don't know a lot about lighting, but she made things easy and didn't make me feel like I was stupid. People need to understand that just cause you walked in, doesn't mean they can just drop someone else to get to you. You wouldn't like that. They have terrible customer service. I don't even know where to start. When we redid our old house, we used dominion to supply ALL the lighting. We recently moved into a new house and I needed new lighting. I found a chandelier online but decided to support a local business and purchase through them. If I would have purchased it through Houzz, I would have received free shipping. I did it over the phone because I trusted they would take care of me. They ended up charging me 177.00 for shipping. I was never charged shipping before when working with them. I was told they would fix the situation and refund shipping. They never called back after that conversation. I went into the store today and was told me they would figure it out...I was just called and told only 100.00 would be refunded. I hope that 77.00 was worth losing my business read more

I almost NEVER post a review, but this deserves a call out. I called two different showroom locations to try to order a specific lamp. The first one rang and rang and rang. The operator said she didn't know why no one would answer. The second showroom put me on hold for over 8 minutes while they looked for a sales associate to take the order. Went in to find two lights for our newly remodeled kitchen/dining room. It was a Saturday afternoon, and there were plenty of people there. We were greeted promptly, the employee took all the time with us -- turning on lights, looking in catalogs. Poor selection of exterior lights. No one acknowledged my presence. Had to seek "help" from unhappy woman at desk. I showed her photos of my house and had measurements.
