My friend and I stopped in as a walk-in. We had to wait 15 minutes for the next class to start so we smelled scent options while we waited. They have mason jar, glass and ceramic options. Ceramic was $38, mason jar / glass was $25-$35 depending on size. You could customize the color and add up to 4 scents. The class was nice, there was music and instruction but also time to jus chat with your group. It took about 40 minutes. My class was at 4 and I came back at 6:30 to pick up my candle. It wasn't fully dry yet but they allowed me to pick it up so I didn't have to drive back later. Overall, I felt the experience was nice, maybe a little pricey but a fun experience! read more

Lumiere Candle Studio - Candle Stores Near Me - Alexandria, Virginia

Went a few weekends ago and absolutely LOVED IT! I remember meeting Morgan for the first time at Ledos pizza, and instantly remembered her great service. While I'm sad that she isn't at ledo anymore, Lumiere is lucky to have her! Sammi and Morgan were wonderful hosts. They had a wide array of scents and colors, and while the jars were limited the atmosphere they created was so wonderful that I didn't even mind. You get a lot of candle for the price and I appreciate the fact that the price is all encompassing + your deposit is taken off your total at the end. You could tell they had a deep appreciate for this place and they had a lovely bond that was reflected in the way they ran the store. Will be back soon!! read more

Was a great time, went for Valentine's Day and they had a ton of scents to chose from. We walked away with amazing smelling candles and a fun experience read more

The young lady that hosted our session should stay behind the scenes. She's not customer oriented so it really took away from the whole experience.. like she has no personality whatsoever anyways let me get into the class. First of all we were the only ones in attendance for the 7pm session so she could have made us feel more welcomed. This was our first time making a candle so it would've been nice to have the host give scent peering suggestions, ask us questions about our preferences or what type of scents we were accustomed to or would like. I mean no interactions at all. I asked how many ounces were the jars and she didn't know gave us some number and we said don't worry I know that's not 10oz. This was my birthday gift from my dear Twin friend.. we made the most of it and would definitely do another candle making glass just not here. If you want a lackluster candle making glass this is it. If you want to be motivated and excited find another location. The candle does burn well and the throw is pretty decent. The smell I even lingered for several hours after blowing it out. It was packaged ok, I would have preferred bubble wrap or more than one layer or paper. Also note if you pick a late class you will have to come back another day to pick up your candle for it won't be ready for 2-3hrs after so factor that in. I drove about 48mins to pick up the $40 candles read more

So I found this spot on TikTok while trying to find something new for "date night". We had arrived for our 5:00pm reservation and literally was out 5:30ish. Unfortunately there was an issue with the Wi-Fi for music so worked in silence. Our instructor only spoke when giving us the next step. I personally felt he had opportunity to make the experience a little more enjoyable if he interacted with us more. We were literally the only people in there. The prices were reasonable and they have many options to choose from scents, colors and jars. You will be asked to return after 3 hours to allow your candle to cure. But definitely try it out, location is perfect for a night out. There is street parking and there's a stop for the Trolley (free to ride) right in front. Plenty of restaurants and shops near. read more

Fun Lumiere studio visit this past weekend with friends. The studio is located right off of King St in a basement-level shop. We arrived a few minutes before our scheduled reservation time and the shop still had a good number of people from the previous session. I've attended candle making classes before and this one was a lot more condensed than some of my previous experiences. It took a little less than an hour overall. Candle making was straightforward, the shop has a variety of nice scents to choose from. The 3.5 star rating is due to the lack of transparency when booking that's associated with how long it takes for the candle to be cooled/completed. In classes I've taken before, we cooled the candles and left with them. Here, we were told as the session began that the candles take 3 hours to cool and since our reservation was for 7pm, our candles wouldn't be ready until the following day. Some of my friends drove over an hour for this experience, and it would've been nice if that was noted when booking- if we saw this we probably would have chosen an earlier time. Overall, a nice fun and quick candle making experience but if you are not close to Alexandria, be conscious of what time you schedule the class. read more

The lady (blonde and glasses) who was working told us over the phone to get here at 4:15. We got there at 4:13 told us she could not take us in because we were late. It says on the website it takes 30-45 min and with it solidifying, we would have finished by closing. She didn't want to be accommodating. Let's see if they give us a refund on our booking. It was disrespectful because we drove 30 mins away rushing to get here. It's unfortunate because it was my birthday and I wanted to make content for them. I would not recommend them. read more

There needs to be a designated candle pick-up time for customers to not interrupt a class in session. This isn't fair time-wise to the staff member juggling both along with the customers waiting to continue with their directions. More specific directions for first and last name are needed as we encountered an issue with a customer's candle not found due to different name than they go by. The process as a whole for making the candles was good but letting customers be more hands-on to do things by themselves would be nice. Give us a paper with directions and let us be with staff as a resource not a necessity. The staff member for 5/11/2025 was knowledgeable and friendly! read more

IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A FUN DATE NIGHT, BACHELORETTE ACTIVITY, BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION, WORKPLACE OUTING, OR JUST A FUN ACTIVITY THIS IS A PHENOMENAL PLACE! I was informed that there was a recent change in management and honestly under the new manager we had 10/10 Service! I made a reservation for 3 for 12pm. The class was about 9 of us total. We came in a little late but Sammy and Morgan made us feel so welcome and really took the time to help each of us, as well as provided a fun environment. Sammy provided great recommendations for all of our candles scents to help us really be content with them! Morgan was speedy with helping provide us all the candle materials we needed and was also very engaging! The space was clean and they had lots of choices for scents and colors, Sammy and Morgan were also committed to making sure that you were happy with your candle. There were lots of different options and different prices but they take part of the pricing of the candles out from the deposit you make for the class. (Lowest candle price $27, highest $45) Located conveniently on Kings Street so while you wait for your AMAZING candle to set you're in the heart of Old Town Alexandria so you can explore and get some good food while you wait (approximately 3 hours of cool time) If you don't want to wait that day you can pick up your candles for up to 60 days after! My family and I decided we will be making this an annual outing! If you're the owner of this place, these girls deserve a raise! read more

Visited recently for a double date night. It was easy to book a reservation online for $5 per person with different times for different number of groups. It's a basement level shop. When we entered for our reservation no one greeted us. There were others in the shop having a class but no staff approached us or greeted us for about five minutes. Once a staff member greeted us (there were two in the shop - the other staff member did not interact with anyone else in the shop during our entire visit). The staff member who assisted during the 'class' was literally sniffling and wiping her nose with the back of her hand while instructing us. It was disgusting and we were surprised the staff member did not take a moment to excuse herself to blow her nose and wash her hands. Finding scents and pouring the candle were fun as we did not necessarily have to interact with the staff. The final charge for the class is based upon the size of the vessel you choose. The class is about an hour long and you will have to leave your candle for pick up (the shop will hold the candle up to 60 days). The customer service experience at this location is lacking and overall a mediocre candle making experience. There is paid street parking (the shop is on King Street in Old Town Alexandria). $$ read more

Relaxing way to spend an hour with friends. You basically pick your color and scents. They can help you find scents that blend well together or add balance. My candle has a good scent that fills my room. The staff are not bubbly & outgoing which is fine with me but some people expect that kind of service & might be disappointed or put off. read more

This review is in reference to my experience at the Alexandria location in early February. I planned a Gal' s Date for me and a few of my friends in celebration of Valentine's Day. I had friends coming from as far as North Baltimore County, Southern MD, and Lorton. Upon arrival at my scheduled time, I was surprised by the intimate location however it was cute enough for the activity. After waiting at the counter for 3 minutes, one of the facilitators acknowledged me and said it would be a couple of minutes. Another young woman stood behind the counter within 5 feet of me and failed to acknowledge my presence for about 10 minutes. A few other couples came in after me and both employees failed to acknowledge any of us. After about 10 minutes the lady behind the counter asked if she could check me in....acknowledging me for the first time. While we were getting ready for the activity, we mentioned that one friend was running behind coming from Baltimore and they said, if she is not here in 5 minutes, she could not participate. The tone and the customer service was totally out of line. The entire experience was rushed. As we know, we are only candle-making for the experience. This experience totally felt like a get you in and get you out situation. The options of vessels for candles were poor and the facilitators were not giving us the experience we were paying for. The icing on the cake was after paying and tipping, I asked the main facilitator to take a picture of us and she told me she could not, she was too busy. Overall, I would never patronize this business again. We were paying for an experience and overall, I left dissatisfied and annoyed. read more

I visited Lumiere on a Sunday afternoon, almost evening around 5pm with my 1y/o daughter and her dad. The experience is just okay.. Candle making is fairly simple so for it to be fun, the instructors need to be engaging and exciting. The atmosphere could also give more of a fun vibe. However, I am the life of my own party and my family was there so I had a GREAT time smelling the scents, making my perfect mixture and enjoying the process. The instructors are really nice and chill, they tell you what you need to know and are informative when you ask questions or if you seem unsure. I appreciated them and their recommendations! I want to note that most importantly, this is not a "from scratch" candle making studio. You don't pick your wax and heat it up and learn the entire process. You pick the scent, mix it to your liking, the teacher brings you hot wax, you pour the scent into the wax and stir for 30 secs and then give it to them to dry. That's it. The most interactive/exciting part is picking your scent. This place is also family friendly but I still wouldn't recommend bringing small children because there will be very hot wax on small tables. I would come back for a quick trip thanks Lumiere and hosts! read more

Super helpful! And affordable candles ! Love this place ! They had a ton of scents as well as opportunity to make your own. Will come back

I had an appointment with 3 of my friends and when we arrived the store was closed. The appointment was for 1 pm and the store hours say it opens at 12 pm. We were not the only party who booked an appointment. There were 4 other people who were also in the 1 pm class. No one was answering the phone. We were given no warning that it was closed. read more

Yesterday I visited Lumiere Candle Studio and I was very disappointed with my experience. After entering the cramped basement I was rushed into my seat by the instructor Morgan who was very rude. Her attitude made it obvious she did not want to be there but she left no room for interpretation after she loudly complained to her coworkers that she wanted to leave. At one point she even talked about another customer who was also in the class. This activity had the potential to be a fun date night experience but her attitude soured our night and we will certainly not be returning. Lumiere Management, your staff desperately needs a refresher on customer service. read more

So cute for a date night! Lasted about an hour or two. Our guide/host Sophia was very welcoming and informed and really made the experience! We got to pick a few scents that we thought would smell good, candle colors, and containers. We got to make the candles then design the label. They are ready in about three hours or so, I believe. We picked ours up the next day. Would definitely recommend stopping in! read more

The studio was very calming and everything smelled great. Worker was very friendly and kind when we asked questions, and gave clear and concise instructions on how to make the candles. Overall, great experience and I'm very happy with my purchase! read more

We had an amazing time at the candle studio for my friend's bachelorette party. I was a bit weary of going here due to a terrible experience I had at the Baltimore location, but my expectations were blown out of the park. We were able to have our own private candle session and Sammi and Morgan made it very personalized and enjoyable. I loved that Sammi helped us with our scents, giving us suggestions along the way and allowing us to change our minds if we hated our scent. It was fun to be able to pour the wax ourselves and to have so much hands on help. I'd definitely recommend going to this location for a nice relaxing experience. read more

8-26-22...I found this place from a Google search or it came up on my Facebook newsfeed Idk I just wanted to go!!.. I was so excited however the excitement would soon dim super low!! I brung my mom here because it was her Birthday!! & she LOOOVEs candles and been through a lot this year so I wanted to brighten her day at least. We got into Lumiere which was a small shop downstairs in almost a basement back door type set up with 4 steps so it's no huge sign or anything advertising you've arrived there. The Guy Josh was inattentive and was on his phone a lot , wasn't welcoming or explained anything as if we already knew what we were doing. We walked around looking and smelling candles they had on the shelves, There were clipboards with pen which you had to write your 4 chosen fragrances, We got to candle making ! You pick four fragrances you actually mix them all in one shot glass which was different but cool. they only Offer One wick candles and 3 sizes of jars the $25.small jar comes with a top the $30,$ 40 do not!!.We kept having to call him over to help as we didn't know what to do at all he wasn't engaging at all as like a great waiter. Overall the experience wasn't what we expected and Josh gave mediocre energy like" I just came here because I was on the schedule" vibe the whole way!! The wonderful thing was the camaraderie between Me, My Mama, BFF laughs, the bond In making the candles. I will return with another group just call beforehand to make sure it's someone else on shift so this Dry ass experience won't happen again....CUSTOMER SERVICE DEFINITELY DETERMINES IF A PERSON (S) WILL CONTINUE TO PATRONIZE A BUSINESS read more

So.. I went on 4/15/23 and had an ok experience although it started late and we were rushed through the process. I was unable to take my candle home that day because we had a late appointment and the candle needed to rest for 3 hours. I came back the next day to pick up my candle and it was about 15 minutes to closing. There was a group of women there celebrating a birthday. I was appalled when the employee began to rush them with an attitude and overheard employee say well it's my partner's birthday today. The lady said well it's my friends birthday and we are here trying to celebrate it . I am guessing their appointment also started late because they should have been a lot further along in the process at 15 minutes to closing and they were the only group there. I feel like the employee should have planned ahead and took the day off rather than ruin someone's experience. With that being said, I am pleased with my candle and the host that helped us the day before was very helpful especially when my mixture of scents didn't come out quite right. My recommendation for the company is that they allow more than an hour per session to prevent people from being rushed. I would go back, however, I would not work with the sales associate that was rude. read more

I tried Lumiere for my birthday along with 7 friends. Location was great as well as the studio but the customer service was unimpressive. I wasn't greeted upon entering the studio and the workers weren't personable. The experience would've been better with more upbeat, attentive, and warm staff. During the candle pickup, my friends and I were told that we had to share bags because the studio didn't have enough. I wasn't impressed with this location. read more

We visited the Alexandria location. The studio was very nice and clean. Making our candles was a fun and relaxing activity with my family. I took my family as a birthday celebration. However, the employee, Evelyn, was very rude, dismissive, and unwelcoming to our family. It is unfortunate that Evelyn's rude attitude reflected poorly on this business as a whole. Evelyn made several inappropriate comments to our family and their troubled attitude was not fitting for such a relaxing activity. I was disappointed with this visit as a whole mainly because of Evelyn's poor attitude and behavior when guiding our candle making session. read more

My mom and I went to the Alexandria location on a quick day trip. Horrible experience overall. Experience at the studio was rushed, not personal, staff was not prepared for anything. She had to clean up from the night before to be ready for our session. She didn't have anything warmed up, so because it was only us and two other girls there, we were waiting for awhile. We were told that we could not have our candles shipped to us once they were ready, even though we said we are not local. After finishing our candles we just thought we had to leave them there to not be picked up because we couldn't drive 6 hrs round trip to retrieve them when they were ready. A couple weeks after our appointment I contacted lumiere's website. I was connected with someone much more helpful that was outside of this location. She said they could ship them for me no problem and apologized for the miscommunication. I paid for the shipping and they told me that they would process it to ship right away. I had to call the Baltimore location to pay for the shipping because they wanted to take Alexandria out of the equation to not confuse them further. Weeks later I asked if they had sent them, because it was the middle of summer and I just wanted to make sure I was aware when they would come so they didn't melt outside. Alexandria store said that they needed to know my name to retrieve the candles, even though I had already told them the info they needed to know. They also would never have told me that if I didn't ask if they had been shipped. I believe I emailed one more time on the status about a month later and still didn't ship. I told them about this poor experience as kindly as possible and they stopped emailing me back altogether. I never received my candles or any refund for my shipping. I don't mind paying for the candles, because I still did the "experience" no matter how poor it was. But the unprofessionalism is through the roof at this location and would never recommend. I am not surprised to see that other people are also unsatisfied. read more

Very disappointing experience. I came to make a candle Friday 2/18 and had a great time although the worker did seem to be rushing me to make the candle I still kept an open mind. the worker informed me it would take 3 hours for the candle to cool and that I could pick it up tomorrow between the hours of 12pm-7pm. Today 2/19 I arrived to Lumiere at 12 to retrieve my items but found the store closed, lights off, no sight of any employees and multiple customers outside waiting. I waited an hour to see if an employee would come unfortunately no one ever came I called the building multiple times and got no answer. I am extremely disappointed in this company and their professionalism. I feel as though I have been robbed of my experience as I was not able to retrieve the items that I paid for.
