After eating in a few of the old stand by restaurants we decided to give it a go here. We must say what a nice surprise, all the little things the other places missed. Table clothes, cloth napkins, water served at the table, warm bread and butter, just to name a few things. The food was great and included a potato and vegetable. Having stayed at the Old Village Inn many times and eaten there often, I can endorse this establishment for its warmth, quality and friendliness of the staff. The chef does an excellent job, I have had most things on the menu and like them all. I've never stayed at the Inn itself, but I have dined at the restaurant and have had great meals both times. The French Onion soup is delicious, but my favorite meal is the Mushroom Ravioli with the added Lobster - so good! It was Thanksgiving weekend and we rolled into town on Saturday afternoon. We hadn't made reservations we were lazy and arrogant. We drove into town and saw the vacancy sign at that Old Village Inn and pulled over. We had hoped they had a vacancy, we had called but never got an answer or return call. We checked in and got not a room but a suite. The deal was good, really good. The place is super funky, totally thrift shop chic. The place is filled with furniture that is totally thrift shop but the BEST thrift shop finds, a thrift shop shoppers wet dream! The room was super warm and the water in the shower was super hot! We had a view of the ocean from out private balcony in an old house, how cool is that? The only thing I did not like was the bartender at the bar. Bad energy oozes from this man. He needs to find another profession, it was like Faulty Towers. I would go back again in an isntant just wouldn't have a drink at the bar. read more

I can't believe no one has commented on the extremely overpowering odor of cat urine? taking over the entire place. We wanted to grab a few apps before heading across the street to see a movie and I have wanted to give this place a try. We almost turned around as soon as the odor hit us, but we unfortunately got seated right away so no time to retreat. The hostess brought us to the back dining room and I asked about the pub menu before she left. No only dining room , so she moved us into bar area and we opted for the room by the street, where the sun was baking the odor into, for us, unbearable atmosphere. We got up and walked out. If you have a big appetite this is not the place to go if food is delicious depending on what you order. I would stay away from the rubber lobster but the scallops are amazing. Portions are for kids pricey but doable I've stayed here and eat here over the past couple years and it seems every year that I come the portions get smaller the rooms are a little bit it outdated but I always clean and tidy smells a refreshing when you open the door to the room. If you want to inexpensive place to stay this is it with the rustic charm the bar is slamming at night with lots of fun and jokes depending who is bartending if you want them strong you come in. read more

We had dinner here on a Friday night. We ate in the bar area. The bar is cozy - friendly chatter among regulars. The service was abrupt - borderline rude. We ordered the fried green beans - definitely a frozen batch from Costco. The lobster bisque was OK - a few chunks of lobster. The lobster taco's were weird - lobster meat on soft taco shells with shredded cheese and lettuce with a side of nachos and a package of sour cream. Lobster nacho's is probably a better description. I would have a drink at the bar next time but I would not return for a meal. read more

Between hurried service while over looking a menu to the lack luster food I'm not sure where to start here. First we've tried to eat here three days in a row. Day one 840pm we aren't seating anymore parties, 838pm we aren't seating any more parties for dinner. So tonight we arrived at 715pm. We were the only table in the entire restaurant. We order drinks and are just enjoying the company at the table 8pm, "Are you ready to order, the kitchen is about to start breaking down for the night." They close at 9... We all order the exact same food three prime rib queen cut medium rare. They all arrived cold. Not like they may have sat and had some warmth. No this food was COLD. SKIP THIS PLACE. Totally a wasted meal during a vacation. And my partner and I place a high merit on our meals because while traveling, they are our way to bond and catch up as a couple. Never again. Total waste of time money and energy. There are to many amazing restaurants here to experience a bad one like this place! read more

This is a very charming place for dinner. We ate here fairly late so they were out of a few specials which was unfortunate, but it happens. The staff weer nice. The ambiance was very nice. A bit dark but comfortable. The chowder was excellent. Not too thick or thin, but just right. I had the backed stuffed shrimp which was very tasty. I do love seafood stuffing and the stuffing was very very tasty. I also found the price to be very reasonable. I would definitely come back here again. read more

Went here for dinner recently. I got the sirloin which was a bit pricey and I was disappointed because it was cooked more than I had asked for and not as tasty as I had hoped. My husband got the french dip and liked it. The rolls are good, but as previously noted they only give you one a piece and the butter has freezerburn. The 'pudding cake' dessert is delicious-basically just a lava cake, but expensive. The atmosphere is lovely and the pomegranate margarita was yummy. read more

Our hotel staffer recommended a few places for dinner during our stay in OGT. We chose OVI on our second night. (Are you impressed with my use of cool capital abbreviations? ... It's ok.) We were seated immediately, in a super cute converted porch area and hubs was immediately exclamatory about the cool layout and atmosphere of the place. We waited for almost 20 mins for someone to come by to take our orders, or say hello. We finally had to go searching. Our server came, it was initially awkward, but whatever. Ordered wine from their decent list and escargot to start with. It was a good dish, the wine was great. We have also passed the awkward stage with our server, and she is nice. Hubs had salmon for dinner, he declared it perfect. I had a scallop pasta dish. This was hands down my favorite dish of our weekend. It was PERFECTION. And it was our server's favorite. I really really like her now. Dessert was molten chocolate something- really good. We started chatting with Heather, our server, and she is really just a gem. She gave us a little tour of the restaurant/inn and gave us great info on booking a room there- we totally would. It's a very charming place, and we might see Heather again, which is a bonus. Had a great dinner here! My girlfriend had been to Ogunquit many times in the past, I was a newcomer to the rocky coast. We were looking for somewhere quiet, with good food. We had wandered by here a few times and checked out the menu. It looked good, so we decided to give it a go for dinner. The maitre d' was very cordial, and gave us a great seat by the fire. It was a chilly evening, and this combined with some scotch for me and red wine for her was perfect. The wine list was good, also. We started with lobster bisque and clam chowder, which were served at the perfect temperature. I moved on to prime rib, which was absolutely great. I'm not even sure I needed a steak knife due to how tender it was. Unfortunately we did not have room for dessert, but will absolutely be going back on our next trip. read more

Disgusting don't waste your money here. You have to ask for bread and they give you a small slice each. The escargot was over cooked and disgusting and the clam chowder tasted like it was from a can. There are so many better options it's unfortunate that I spend my time and money here. The service was awful, I will never return and will not ever recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

sadly our favorite item on the pub menu " the Sliders" were removed from the menu this year. They used to have a great Haddock slider or Beef slider choice, we went especially for those and ended up just ordering one drink and going someplace else. Noticed no flowers planted yet either in the front beds which usually are gorgeous. Hope they bring back the Haddock sliders. All I saw on the menu was a deep fried fish, not healthy or appealing. The haddock sliders used to be lightly breaded served with a lemon wedge. read more

I just love the OVI. The atmosphere is so cozy. I always start off with a drink at the bar and then go the dining room for dinner. Love the Brie appetizer. I either get a filet or try one of the specials. Never been disappointed. OVI used to do brunch and I so miss it. Best Bloody Mary's. read more

Inn smells faintly of cat litter but fortunately not in the room. Make sure you understand that there is no elevator and rooms are up steep stairs, either one or two flights.Nice and quiet although our stay was off-peak. Great location and free parking. Lots of electrical outlets but not one anywhere near a mirror so hard to use a hair dryer. I did not feel that the hotel staff was awfully friendly. However our waiter was very good and the meal was very good. So thumbs up for the restaurant and thumbs down for the inn. read more

We have had some great seafood options entrees here and the food is fairly priced. Dessert was spectacular too (molten lava cake) Owner and/or manager was really nice on times we have. Only complaint is dining area seems dated and stuffy. Perhaps it has been renovated since last we went. Hope so. read more

My experience is exactly the same as Christine P in 2011. A friend and I went to Old Village Inn in Ogunquit because it looked inviting from the outside and both the Front Porch and Five O were closed, so we figured we'd give a new place a try. I ordered a Manhattan - I could tell as the Waiter/owner was carrying it towards me that it was the wrong color and had the wrong ingredients, I took a sip and said it has bitters and would he make me one without. He got a MAJOR attitude, went away and slowly, made a new one - exactly the same color!! He said he hadn't touched the bottle of bitters but I guess he thought I was stupid, because I know the taste of bitters and the second one most certainly did have it. Eventually he consented to take out appetizer order - we had three tiny pot stickers to share - they were delicious but very sparse. After a long time he took our order, begrudgingly, and our food came. I ordered a wedge salad on the side and it came with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing instead of the Blue Cheese a wedge salad always comes with. It took him forever to bring the check!!!! I took a picture of the bill so we could divide the costs after we left - there was no way we were going to stay there and figure it out and no way he was going to get any tip - which he plainly figured out, because when I got back to our motel room I looked at the photo I discovered he had put TWO wedge salads on the bill - and I paid for the Manhattan what was undrinkable!!! As we were leaving I asked what was up with him - why he would jeopardize the reputation of the restaurant with such a rotten attitude and he said I had gotten aggressive with him!! The unmitigated nerve!!! I ordered an expensive drink and got treated like dirt. Note to Dean: go to the bar at the Anchorage or the bar at Five-O - both of those bartenders know how to make a suburb Manhattan! We had just arrived in Ogunquit for a weekend getaway and neglected to consider that it was Valentines Day night and all the restaurants in the area were jam-packed. We'd already been turned away from two other places when we tried Old Village Inn. The hostess was friendly, explaining that they couldn't seat us in the dining room for another hour and a half. Not going to work with a hungry 5 year old! When I asked if there were any other places around she could recommend, she stopped for a moment, and then offered to find us somewhere to sit in the lounge area. The manager came right over and prepared a separate room right off the lounge which was perfect! Quiet, warm and cozy and my daughter was thrilled that we had our own private room. To our further delight, the wait staff was pleasant and the food was fantastic. We had scallops wrapped in bacon for an appetizer - delish! Surf and turf for dinner and the prices were more than reasonable. Very happy with our experience and we highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

we had a great meal here last Friday night. We had 8 in our group and everyone was happy. The service was great as was the food. We had the Maine crab cakes and Brie fondue for apps. For dinner we ordered the nights special - lobster on angel hair pasta, rack of lamb, stuffed shrimp. stuffed haddock, chicken marsala and short ribs. Thoughtful preparation, presentation and quality ingredients are why we keep coming back. The old Inn is filled with charm and ambiance. Great wines, great service and attention to detail. We have been here several times and it previously was one of our favorite places for a quick bite and some drinks. It's a very cozy bar. Service has always been hit or miss, usually pretty terrible. Recently we have been very disappointed with service and management. If you have more than a few people in your party, you aren't welcomed here. On 3 different occasions we were told we couldn't stay because we had 8 people. The bar wasn't even packed, in fact there was an open high top table. We took our business elsewhere. Absolutely DREADFUL.....right from the moment we stepped inside and the host announced that we can't be seated or be in the bar!!! Would be a 25+ minute wait and we agreed as long as we could stand in corner of front room. Host agreed. After 15 minutes and host seated 3 parties I went to back of restaurant and noticed 3 open tables. Came back and asked if we could be seated there and gladly wait for cocktails. Host said "in a moment". Meanwhile the bartender rudely and nastily infringed upon us without an apology. RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!! After. 35 minute wait we checked our cell phone for nearest open restaurant and went to Five-0 (50 Shore Rd) where we were warmly and kindly greeted by the hostess. Place was busy but were seated within 5 minutes. We will NEVER again attempt OVI. No one needs such unprofessional and outright rudeness no matter what the circumstances may be. My mom and I went here for dinner to celebrate Mother's day through a package from Meadowmead Resorts. The ambiance was eclectic and cozy. The package included an app, salad, entree, and dessert. We split a bottle of wine (~$24). I had the crab cakes, side salad, filet mignon, and chocolate lava cake. My mom had the pear salad (they let her upgrade her app and salad), beef medallions, and the Creme Brule. Overall it was a great meal! We walked away very well fed. read more

appetizers were very good. I had the artichoke and crab casserole. as a non crab eater, i was pleasantly surprised by how non fishy and delicious this dish was. My husband had the bacon wrapped scallops which were delicious. For entrees, i ordered the filet mignon. initially it was undercooked, which isn't a huge deal, i sent it back for a little more cooking, upon its return it was still underdone, fatty and I am still questioning if it was actually the correct cut of meat. Aside from that, the sauce was not edible. i ordered a different sauce in hopes of salvaging the dish, but i just could not push through. His entree was the rack of lamb, which i have to say was excellent. the desserts were ok, not fresh and not worth the calories. overall this was a mediocre dining experience. read more
