Went in yesterday for breakfast, it was not very busy. Waited a few minutes then we got seated. Didn't get menus for awhile, when the host cam back with menus she took our drink order. Never returned just wet back and stood behind the counter. No drinks. A server walked by and said I'll be back she also never came back, she proceeded to walk behind the counter and roll silverware. Made eye contact as waved down the host who was confused why we got her attention, asked her about the drinks and she looked like she had no idea what we were talking about. Normally the food is pretty good. This time I had a cockroach just walking right up to me, I jump out of my seat and afterwards I told the server. She removes the cockroach now off my phone. I have been driving past Old Town Waffles for years and always intended to stop by. I finally had the opportunity to make a visit since I had a buy one entree get one free for up to $7 from diningadvantage.com. So I'm going to start with the cons so I can end on a good note. I get rustic and the fact that this establishment has been around for a long time. However, they have so many patronage here that it wouldn't be a bad idea to pay the staff to do a cleaning party or even hire a cleaning crew. With just a duster, some windex and cleaning the baseboards and grout, this restaurant could be decently clean and not filthy. I noticed a t.v. If they can afford a t.v., they can afford some windex and a duster. The second con were the awful and dry sausage links. I added the 2.99 for eggs and sausage links to my two berry waffles and the sausage links fell short. They were so dry, wrinkly and old. Sorry, but I like it when I bite down on my sausage and it just squirts all of the flavors out. These sausages tasted like they were a day old, burned and have been sitting in the pan all morning. Nonetheless, I did enjoy my refreshing pepsi in a big 32oz mason jar. It was so big, my tiny hands barely fit around it. The waffles were very scrumptious, crispy and fluffy at the same time . They put just the right amount of whip strawberries and blueberries. The country potatoes were very melt in your mouth. Our waitress, Maria was super friendly and checked in on us. Well..... I think this poor building is doomed. I remember when it was a steak place, a Italian place, and the numerous breakfast places in the past. Wife and I decided to give this place a try, see what they had to offer. The Food: It was breakfast food. It was decent, and i enjoyed my meal. No worse then the last place, but yet no better. The staff: I have to say, either they were inexperienced; overworked; or scared to fail since the owner was standing at the cashier stations watching everything. Our waitress, who seemed like she knew what she was doing, had way to much on her plate to handle. Slow she was, BUT she did remember our requests...it be 10 minutes later; yes. The location: The location works for a breakfast place, but like I said above, I think the building itself is cursed. The Prices: A bit high, but are in par with the other breakfast places in Clovis. Overall: Our experience was a 3 star experience. We will probably give it another try one day, and I hope they find their groove. read more

First time here since the new owners took over. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left we were welcomed & attended to. The owner checked in on us and the people around us as she also helped serve. At one point she was even sweeping the floor. We ordered mostly breakfast foods but a couple of people in our group had chicken burgers/chicken strips. They looked good & said they were. The coffee was hot & plentiful. I like that they ask if you would like a refill and not just start pouring. They have several different types of creamers to choose from. The coffee could be a bit stronger, but I like strong coffee. Prices are average & equate to the amount of food received. The only advice I have is to paint the bathroom and add a picture/poster. Thank you for a good meal. We'll be back. read more

Kind of a mixed bag here. My wife and I both had burgers and fries. The garnishes that accompanied the burgers were outstanding. The fries were tasty too, as the oil seemed fresh and recently changed. But the burger patty seemed machine made and not hand pressed. The meant that the texture of the meat definitely seemed over-mixed and tough. The price of a soft drink is outrageous, but then again it comes in a humongous mason jar. I'm not really sure what human needs this much soda in a week, much less for a meal. Seeing the size of a soda also helped me understand why the price of a domestic beer is less expensive than a soda! Finally, there's a bit of a transparency issue at the register. I electronically signed to pay for the meal, only to notice that a phantom "Mocha" somehow made it on the receipt. Today my wife and I went to Old Town Waffles. I was there 12 years ago when it was under new management and was Country Waffle. It was horrible so I never went back. Today we decided to try it... there were a lot of cars. This is a totally different place from 12 years ago. It is sad, but if something is so bad I will not go back and that is why it took so long. The food was phenomenal. i had huevos rancheros that is my test for many places.. it was awesome. My wife had Eggs Benedict.. she loved it. I have to say this is a go to place for me from now on. Wow! Found this place through word of mouth and they were accurate. Hole in the wall, but man, so worth your time! We walked in and were the only ones in there for a late breakfast. Stoked to read that their menu was simple, to the point and inexpensive. I had the french toast, while my wife had a rather large omelette. We both devoured our food and were full until dinner! The owner was great, she can cook a mean breakfast and we were telling her to come open something in our area because we need good breakfast places and her business would thrive out here!! It's seems that all the previous reviews were from the old owner, that recently sold the place to the new owner, that is young hip and cool and is going through a revamp of the menu and direction of the place...... Good friendly staff. Not so good food. The waitress said they are condensing their menu which is a step in the right direction. I told her our dissatisfaction with the food and she apologized explained that they were revising their menu and invited to come back. Since I like to give people chances I will try it out again. I hope I can give it a 4 star rating next time. But it will not be fore quite a while. Service: I think they had us wait too long. There were various empty clean tables but we weren't seated more quickly because the staff was too busy cleaning other tables or taking an order. Someone else told them that we had been waiting for a while. That is when we were seated. The waitress was very nice and you could tell she wanted us to have a good experience. Unfortunately it seemed like everyone was unorganized. One coffee was served half full another tables order was taken before ours ever though we were seated and ready first. She brought the coffee but forgot the cream. Suggestion: Have a customer service training session for the employees. Help everyone be organized and on the same page. I really like how friendly they are. Food: Pulled pork: I've had great pulled pork and this missed the mark completely. Pulled pork should be succulent. The meat was overcooked and the bbq was burnt. The pulled pork was crunchy. I ate it only because I paid for it. Suggestion: Improve you pulled pork by checking out the competition or eliminate it from the menu. Chile Verde Omelette: The eggs were cooked well. However the tasted flavorless perhaps egg beaters? The chile verde was more like shredded beef top with a green salsa. It was ok but sub par for restaurant. The hashed browns were crispy. The Cowboy boots: The only problem was that the beef was overcooked and tasted dry. The mushrooms, cheese and potato salad were great. Waffle: This hit the mark. It was well done served with delicious warm syrup and butter. Conclusion: We left with stomach aches from the food. My suggestion is to condense the menu. It seems like the menu shoots for quantity over quality. Keep a few great tasting items (like the waffles and potato salad) and get rid of others (like the pulled pork). A few great dishes will improve your customer loyalty! Ideas for improvement: 1st: Get new cooks or train them to cook better tasting food. 2nd: Once you have great tasting food and an organized staff, think about having some live entertainment on Friday and or Saturday nights in that "buffet" section. Invite local bands seeking to show off their talent. You could really capitalize on the country feel of the area and restaurant. It'd be a fun and delicious place that customers would flock to! Plus you'd be recognized for being involved with the community. Check out the "The Landmark" or "Bull Frog's" for entertainment/ restaurant ideas. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!! the customer service here is ridiculously awful. i walk in to ask for the wait time and it took approximately 15 minutes for someone who works there to approach me and the woman who took our order was so unprofessional and cut me off every time i spoke. The BEST breakfast in Clovis! Ignore any reviews older than 2013. I've been coming here for 9 months now since my friends introduced me to this place. Eggs over medium are always perfect, big portions, and the hearty wheat toast is sooo good! I guess there's a new owner who revamped the place? It's also always quick to get seated when I go, and they've always given me great service. Someone is always refilling my coffee or water without me even having to ask! First and last attempt to ear here. Big hat days made it difficult to eat at our normal spots. We got there no one but 2 people so we sat an ordered an Old Town Combo. Took forever to get coffee is good but when we got our food the hashbrowns and sausage were cold and the bacon was brittle. When we notified the waitress it was cold she checked it out a bit and agreed and sent it back. We waited a bit and this heavy set cook came out and asked us what the problem was. He wasnt happy we sent it back and he showed that. we paid for our coffee and left before anymore damage could be done. I discovered this popular restaurant in my quest to find a local breakfast spot with a suitable chicken and waffles dish. I was disappointed to find no one on yelp had posted a picture, but I ventured in anyways. I can't say enough about it. I was nervous to find out the chicken was strips instead of a bone-in breast or something of the like, but they exceeded expectations. I'm hooked. Finally, a chicken & waffle plate near me. Would be a 5 except for three things I will talk about at the end. The good stuff is the food is really good. The chicken and waffles is tasty. The chicken was flavorful and the waffles were good. Eggs were buttery too. Would like more hash browns though. The problems I had were: 1. I didn't like the strawberry piece on my chicken or the oranges on my eggs. Those flavors didn't go well for me. 2. (This was just annoying but it was a factor)..it appeared that a waitress had her boyfriend/husband there eating with her young baby and two other children. She kept going over there picking up the baby, kissing on him, spanked his bottom, ran her fingers through his hair while she chatted with dad. I just hope she was washing her hands in between visits. Focus on the customers and their food. Just my opinion. Cute baby though do I guess I can't blame her. 3. Our waitress was awesome, (obviously) not an issue but super annoying that she called everyone hunny bunny like a million times lol. Usually it's pretty good here. Used to go in weekly to have breakfast with my mom and Eddy was the best server. Alma (the owner) is really sweet and obviously tries to remember people. I get the same thing every time because I'm really boring, so I definitely suggest the pork chops and eggs. Went in during the summer once and waited 15 minutes at a table, with no acknowledge after (to at least let us know they were coming to get drink orders, anything). Jiovanni was serving every other table right around us, but no one ever really seemed to notice we were there . It really wasn't that busy so at the 15 minute mark we walked out, especially since we saw two tables who came in after us already place their breakfast order. Jiovanni stopped us and obviously confused and asked if there was a problem. My mom, a little annoyed explained, "Yeah, we waited for 15 minutes, no drinks and no one talking to us". His response was a shrug and "Okay". Other than that, it's been really great except last Thursday. The younger gal with brown hair and glasses was a total ditz, no way around it. My mom ordered iced tea and I wanted a cup of coffee and water - she brings us the ice tea and 2 cups of water. We litterally saw her 3 times the whole meal; one time it was her coming over to tell me she would bring the water pitcher. She never brought it which was fine, I just drank the second water since it really wasn't needed, but when both were empty SHE DIDN'T COME WITH THE WATER PITCHER. Someone else brought out order out, and to be real it was Luke warm. Most of the time we get great service, these two times seemed to be flukes, and we kinda laugh about them. read more

Really, not great. I've been here twice and the food tastes like something you buy in the freezer section and microwave. The country potatoes still taste like the dirt wasn't washed off. The bacon is not burnt, but surely over cooked and stiff. The sausage looks - I guess just funny. The French toast is basically sliced bread still. They put too much butter (that is bright yellow by the way) on the waffles, French toast, pancakes. They only bring one tiny, maybe 1 oz, cup of syrup per plate. The service leaves something to be desired. The cleanliness is OK. They also gave us the absolute worst table, right in the way of the waiters bringing out food, and sat my toddlers high chair in the worst spot of that table. I had to switch his seat. The long wait is confusing, because they really aren't that good. I only gave it a second chance because I though maybe the first time I was being too harsh, but nope. I won't be returning again, and my money is better spent on Denny's or iHop. They only didn't get 1 star because it wasn't the worst food and I didn't find something nasty in it, but if I can cook better than they can, that's just sad. read more

I've been there before in the past and was unimpressed with the food and service. Came in today with a relative because our first choice was too busy and couldn't find parking. Sunday morning and half the restaurant was empty, though were not seating people. Gal at the front was unfriendly and rude tone when she told us to sit and wait. Two other groups were sitting and had been waiting for some time. I noticed the "new" owners have done nothing to improve the place and it looked even older and more dingy than before. After 15 more minutes with no promise of any movement toward seating any of the groups already waiting we left. Folks, trust me there are plenty of other choices in town or nearby Fresno that are cleaner, nicer, and I'm positive have better food (though I can really comment, since we didn't stay).
