We arrived early on Monday morning to find Chubby's greeting customers like Norm in Cheers. Nice to see so much congeniality among staff and what appeared to be regular customers. We walked in strangers, but felt very welcome and by the time we left we were encouraged by the waitress to "come back again" when we "come back through Fresno!" Food was fresh and fast. Plenty to choose from. If you are offered the homemade salsa, take it! So good! The usual hot sauces are also available, but the spicy salsa and pico de gallo took my hashbrowns and eggs from good to great. You also get quite a selection of available breads for toast. Hubby and I were both well pleased with the sourdough. They don't serve any mocha-choka-pinkidy-drinkidy drinks here, but the coffee is a good diner breakfast coffee that the lovely waitress will keep topped off for you. Half & half, vanilla and hazelnut creamers are available if you need a little something extra. It ain't fancy, but if we lived here...well, we'd probably be regulars in no time. For some reason I had never been to Chubby's despite my love of diners. But the diner ambiance was on point, the food was very good, and the service was exceptional. I had my first Senior Dinner Omelette with country potatoes and sourdough toast. Very good and a perfect sized portion for me. My wife had pancakes and a side of hash browns and enjoyed them. I am not from Fresno. My son lives in a little town North of Clovis named Friant. Yeah I had never heard of it either till my son moved there. On our way home to So Cal from visiting we had to find a Tesla Charger which we found there on Blackstone. Nothing was open early Sunday Morning so we Yelped a close by spot for Breakfast and Chubby's caught my eye. Actually my 5 year old granddaughter was intrigued by the name so off wee went. Chubbys is an old timey Diner that probably hasn't changed much since the 70's. Vinyl covered seats in the booths. Oldies playing in the background. Older waitresses that smile and you can tell still enjoy their work. Food is nothing fancy. Good old fashioned comfort food. Big portions. You don't have to ask for toast cause everything came with toast. Coffee was always topped off. Loved it all. Now if you are used to your triple latte with soy milk and vegan breakfast you will want to keep driving. But if you want a hearty breakfast from a wonderful group of ladies. Chubby's is your place. The only complaint came from my 5 year old granddaughter who was upset that there wasn't a real guy named Chubby. I told her next time we will call ahead and make sure Chubby is there to greet her. Stopped at Chubby's on the drive back from Yosemite to LA. It works as a convenient pit stop, but the experience was a bit uneven. The highlight is easy: the huevos rancheros. Genuinely excellent--honestly the best I've had. That dish alone almost earns a return visit. Beyond that, things level off. My wife's omelette was perfectly fine, but very standard diner fare--nothing memorable. Service was friendly and attentive, but the lack of flexibility stood out. There are no substitutions allowed, which became an issue since our kids are vegetarian. We asked to swap bacon or sausage for something simple like fruit or potatoes and were told no. That kind of rigidity feels out of step these days, especially for an easy, lower-cost swap. Cleanliness was another concern. The area near the restrooms could use more attention, and it's the kind of detail that's hard to ignore once you notice it. Then there's the price. After tip, we were over $90 for two adult breakfasts and two kids' meals (coffee and water only). For a diner-style spot, that feels on the high side given the overall experience. So while the food--especially the huevos rancheros--really delivers, the lack of flexibility, cleanliness issues, and pricing make this more of a "maybe" than a go-to. 5+ stars for the service and the food, but taking away three stars for the prices. I come in, and I sit down. I like the atmosphere of the place. It has the vibe of an old 1950s diner. Lots of decorations on the wall. My server was Alex, and he was very friendly and helpful. He kept coming back to make sure that everything was OK. I decided to have the shocks special. Basically, an 8 ounce chuck Salisbury steak, with brown gravy, onions, and mushrooms. It was huge, and it was delicious. The gravy was rich, the mushrooms were very good, and the onions were perfect perfectly tender. Just a great meal. It came with three perfectly over easy, eggs, a nice side order of fresh fruit, and although the toast was a tiny bit overdone, not too much so. The coffee was good and they kept my cup full. So I go up to pay, and when I got my check, I noticed that there was a four dollar upcharge for the fruit. That's pretty ridiculous, and the upcharge is mentioned at the top of the menu, but it also said right on the menu that my meal came with fruit. So there should've been no upcharge. Nope! You have to pay the upcharge. In addition to that, they also charged me extra for using Apple Pay, and I didn't see that listed anywhere. So I actually really love this place! As u can see I wrote a review on it before! I bring my family here when they come from out of town. Also my close friend and I use to come here all the time to catch up! I have multiple pictures in front of this restaurant that I take with family cuz we are always happy with the service and food. But today was different. I ordered fried chicken and fries for my fiancé which came out to $19.48 by the time I brought it home it was still hot and fresh but the chicken pieces were small. The chicken was sweet and I didn't feel like I got my $20 worth so I decided to return it. I called and she asked me that I want anything else and I just decided no I'm gonna go somewhere else cause we really wanted fried chicken when I came in, she took the bag for me and I guess she checked to see if I ate the food which was fine because I wanted a full refund so she gave me my money back and I told her this is the first time I've ever had to do a return here because I come here all the time but I'll still be returning Customer and her response was. I've worked here for 12 years and I've never seen you put the money in my hand and walked away. Didn't say thank you have a good day or anything. I felt like she was kind of standoffish with me because I wanted a refund, but I'm all about quality and quantity and the quality was good. The quantity was not so I felt some type of way leaving here like she had an attitude with me because I wanted my money back. It doesn't matter if you worked here for 12 years and you never see me I literally told you I'm returning Customer and even though I was not pleased I will still be returning because you guys are awesome but the way she treated me with her working here for 12 years. While waiting for my car to be serviced nearby, I walked over to this Chubby's to have a bite of breakfast. At 10:30 am mid-week, the retro-50s-60s decorated dining room was fairly full with a geriatric crowd (95% male). A friendly waitress greeted and seated me immediately. Trash-talking banter between the staff and customers confirmed an abundance of regular patrons. The multi-page menu, heavy on breakfast-served-all-day is extensive and includes many traditional comfort food diner items. I noticed a posting that credit cards would be upcharged. Having neither much appetite nor cash, I ordered conservatively: Senior Vegetarian Omelet. My pallet favored the accompanying potatoes & toast, but my doctor says to avoid, so I would have subbed fruit in their place. But Chubby wanted to rape my wallet ($3.99 extra!) for that option, so I had them simply hold the potatoes (I can resist the temptation, but I hate wasting any food). The omelet was edible, but shockingly chintzy (maybe 2 medium eggs with about 1/4 cup of onions, peppers, & mushrooms), listed at $13.99 on the menu, $15.99 + tax out the door on the credit card. No mention of the menu-advertised 10% senior discount (although my appearance leaves no doubt as to my qualification). A 2-star review is quite generous, considering the under-performing quantity, overpricing, gouging and lack of transparent pricing I experienced. I've been going to Chubby's here or over 10 years off and on and it was always great food today was awful. The breakfast was terrible eggs, overcooked, bacon, burn and black and meat look old and the potatoes was cold and nasty. I complained about it. They wanted to fix me a new plate. I didn't trust that you know how it is when you send food back they didn't try to adjust the bill or anything. I will never go there again. I didn't want to put this on here, but I asked for the manager or owner and they said he'd be out I waited 15 minutes that never came out so we left. read more

Decided to try the Blackstone Chubby's for breakfast today. Right by Hobby Lobby. I had a bit of a wait, as all tables were full when I arrived around 1130. As soon as a booth opened, I was seated and my drink order was taken. When my server brought my tea, she took my breakfast order. I'm opting for the Senior Breakfast today...two eggs, two sausage links, potatoes and toast. Reasonable prices at Chubby's. My breakfast didn't take long to come out. Everything was cooked perfectly. No brown on my eggs, flavorful potatoes, good sausage links and lightly browned toast. The restaurant stayed busy while I was there. My server was attentive. A classic staple. This is a legendary burger place let alone Diner, a classic throwback to the good old malt shop diners. Fun vintage atmosphere. The best part of the burgers for me is the homemade ROLL. Yes I said roll because that's ultimately what it is. They make these incredible chewy rolls that they slice to make the buns. Ordered mine to go. Packaged very well and maintained the great freshness until I got home and devoured in minutes. Went here during lunch time and I love how it looks inside. The classic diner setting. We got seated right when we came in. The server was really friendly. I ordered the Rock N Roller burger with fries and it tasted soo good. Our order came out pretty fast. I love how they separate the veggies on the side :) and I really like the taste of their buns lol The meat was well cooked and seasoned. I last reviewed this place something like 5 or 10 yeqrs ago, still go there almost weekly and it's still under the same ownership with many of the same staff and, of course, a very large and loyal bunch of customers. So loyal that even with the inevitable changes during and since Covid this place is busier than ever. People made a point of eating there during that difficult time because everybody wanted to make sure they stayed in business. They'll do crispier/browner hash browns, fries, or their own yummy fried small sliced potatoes grilled with bits of onion and pepper, There's a big independent hardware store called Fresno Ag back in the parking lot on the South East corner of First and Gettysburg that carries all the stuff you can't find at Loews or Home Depot, stuff real craftsmen need to do quality work. Those guys eat at Chubby's, along with lot's of neighborhood families and seniors who enjoy the food and the really helpful and very competent staff. Our favorite breakfast or lunch place by far. Good honest food well prepared sounds like a cliché but it really applies to this place. read more

This was our first time trying Chubbys and we were not disappointed! My husband got the Chipotle burger, it had freshly grilled jalapeño slices, chipotle mayonnaise, grilled onions, and pepper jack. He doesn't usually like mayo but he loved this! It was the perfect amount of spice! The flavors were amazing and you could tell the jalapeños were fresh. The bun was also very good, we didn't expect fresh bread!! The fries were not crunchy, I don't mind but my husband hates soggy fries so he was a little disappointed. He said they tasted microwaved because they were scolding hot and not crunchy, nonetheless they were seasoned very well and I loved them. Their ranch is also really thick and good. I had ordered the All american breakfast that comes with 2 biscuits n gravy, 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon or sausage. I thought it going to come with potatoes (I may have misread the menu) so I ordered a side of toast to go with my eggs. The side of toast was $5 so I think we'll opt for no extras on our next visit. We both also got a lemonade which was $4 a cup. The biscuits were amazing and filling. They were actually peppered and didn't need anything else! The bacon was fried to an absolute crisp which I always enjoy but some might not. We ended up spending $45 on the meal for two. The meals themselves were both $12 which isn't bad, but the drinks/toast really bumped up the price. Looking at the menu, pricing is very odd. 2 biscuits are $10 alone, but the entire meal I got (eggs, biscuits, and bacon) was $12. Our waitress was very nice and quick. The food also arrived very quickly, no more than a 5 minute wait. We did go on a Tuesday afternoon so times may vary on weekends. There is very limited seating, but all the seats are booths. They also offer outdoor seating with shade tents. The restaurant itself was clean! The restroom was moderately clean. Some things could be better, but overall we had a great experience and will be going back. We will probably try the other location next time! read more

You also get a choice of fries or you can choose to upgrade to onion rings, soup or side salad. I chose to upgrade to a side salad. The order was made pretty quickly. I checked out at their bar and left. Opened the order when I got home. Everything looked really good! The salad was delicious! Fresh lettuce and tomatoes. The California chicken sandwich looked even better! First off, it was very large. Extremely delicious sandwich! Loved the buns. Different from your regular sandwich. Fresh and yummy! Pretty standard diner fare. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner food even though they close before dinner. We stopped in around 1pm on a Sunday and were seated immediately for a table of 3. Right after we sat down though, they got really busy and did have a few parties who had to wait for tables. My daughter had the caramel French toast combo and it was so sweet she forgot to use syrup. I could smell the sugar from across the table, which explains why she wolfed it down with no issues. She also ordered her eggs sunny side up and they did an alright job. Probably could have steamed a little longer, but still safe. My spouse went for a chipotle burger with onion rings and he liked it very much. Their onion rings also appeared to be fresh breaded, either that or they have a really good frozen onion ring supplier. I had a hot pastrami and swiss sandwich with French fries. The fries were very fresh and perfectly crispy and the sandwich was huge and delicious. I had to take half of it home but I wanted to eat the whole thing. They definitely don't skimp on the meat. Our server was also prompt and courteous. The food took a little long to come out of the kitchen, but they also had full tables inside the restaurant so I'm sure their cooks were very busy. Overall a decent place to grab lunch, brunch, or breakfast. Easily a better choice than Denny's at least and you probably wont have to wait as long for a table. read more
