This place was pretty okay. The food was honestly just okay. For the price I felt like it was a little bit expensive. Outside of that though, i enjoyed it. Our waitress was super nice and helpful. I got a sandwich, but probably could have done with a little lighter on some of the toppings but when is it right to complain that a restaurant gave you too much of something? I had a side of the potato salad. it had a lot of crunchy relish. That wasn't really for me but it won't stop me from going back and trying something else. Service wise, it started off very well but declined tremendously throughout the meal. Totally ruined the whole experience. This is just your hometown cafe offering a ton of menu items. No razzle dazzle, just good food. The three of us each ordered the Monaco sandwich, which was pastrami with pepperoni. It was on a fresh, soft roll and was very good. read more

Irene's Cafe has the best food. Today they started their Mardi Gras menu and one word, Delicious. We ordered all of the items to try. The Jambalaya with Chicken and Sausage and Shrimp has a sweet tomato flavor. The Chicken & Sausage Gumbo with steamed rice has the perfect amount of spice. The Red Beans and Rice with Ham and Smoked Sausage has the perfect amount of smoke and spice. The Bread Pudding with Bourbon is a perfect way to cap off any of the meals. read more

The old tower district is definitely 'different " I go to Irene's mostly for bfast . The service is great The food is hit n miss sometimes but taste ok . It's very expensive and everytime I go it seems the prices are climbing. If you go between 8:30 - 9 the place is pretty much empty. Coffee is $5 ! Wow that killed me !! read more

We decided to give the place a second chance, hoping the first visit was just a bad day -- but the experience was just as disappointing. We've been waiting for about an hour, and no one has even come by to take our order. The staff shows no sense of urgency or attention to their customers, and it feels like being ignored is the norm here. On top of the slow service, the place has a roach problem -- which is unacceptable for any dining establishment. The food is solidly okay. I gave an extra star for the service. They were attentive and kind. I had the country fried steak and it was okay. The broccoli was over cooked and on the menu it stated vegetables so I was expecting a medley. The gravy was okay but lacked some flavor. Like I said, okay. My son enjoyed the spaghetti and my daughter finished her burger although the fries left a lot to be desired. They tasted like frozen crinkle fries that were reheated multiple times. I have never been to Irene's and I haven't been inside (we ate on the patio), but the food I ordered was exactly what I wanted and I LOVED it. I ordered a Bahama club, and while it may seem like a simple deli sandwich, all the flavors just came together so well and I will be back for this sandwich! You can't beat the fries either! Served warm, on their own plate (not next to the sandwich) and well seasoned. My husband had the California Burger and Fries, which oddly these fries did just come on the side of his burger, so he shared with me as it was not as big of a portion of fries. The burger looked huge and delicious. My sister ordered the BLT and added avocado for an upcharge. She also chose the side of fries. She enjoyed it too. We all ate half of our sandwiches/burger and took the other half to go. I loved the open patio seating and being able to people watch the sunday afternoon Tower Shenanigan's. The patio was open enough that I had no reservations bringing my daughters jogging stroller here to have her by the side of the table for her nap while we ate. Even though we were on the patio the service was very prompt from the minute we walked up and asked if we could take an open table. A lady came right away to wipe it down and bring us menus. Service was just want it needed to be, nothing more nothing less and I appreciated it that way. Hopefully we can come back so I can have another Bahama Club and maybe try something else on their very extensive menu! read more

A Fresno famous diner and I'd never been there until January 2024! Great breakfast place I've been missing out on. Nice greeting when we entered, it was a weekday morning, not too busy but seemed to be a lot of regulars picking up orders to go. Great coffee. I tried something I usually don't get at diners and it was great! The chicken fried steak, eggs and hash brown -yummy! This was the perfect sized portion in my opinion. The food is really good, hot and fresh, and s the service is wonderful. if you are looking for the "Tower Experience ", this is it. it's sort of in the center of the Tower District where there are lots of shops, the Tower Theater for concerts and Roger Rocka's for plays and performances. it is awesome! read more

They serve up a good potato salad in its own unique way with a blend of mustard and mayo base that does not over power. The bacon is first rate and was crispy as requested for the BLT. I was only going to give two stars in this updated review but I still love eating on their patio and their burgers and sandwiches are still ok. but breakfast has definitely gone down. Twice now my potatoes had burnt bits that were not tasty. The eggs in the omelet are always cooked too hard. I thought I would play it safe and order chorizo and eggs with potatoes even though it seemed $12 was too much for it. It was. There was cumin or something added to the chorizo and eggs that I found off putting (and Im Mexican; I use cumin a lot. It just didn't belong in here) service was off today too, forgot my husband's beer and to refill my drink. Pre-pandemic we came here often and when the pandemic first hit, we relied on Irene's often for take out - I loved that they packed the fries separately so they stayed crispy. They still have really good fries. But my husband's bleu cheese burger fell apart almost immediately- not sure why they use such flimsy buns for their burgers which are nicely full with onions, tomato and lettuce. For the price, I think we'll stick with other spots. read more

I wasn't very happy about having to dine outside due to having him with me. I was really impressed with Irene's Cafe! I got the California Burger and it was more traditional with the sesame seed bun and mustard on the burger. Let me tell you, it was delicious. The bun was toasted and the patty was hand crafted. The veggies were fresh too! With the side of crinkle cut fries it was really good. The staff was super friendly and Irene even came out to talk to me. The ambiance of the restaurant was great! From the outside you are unsure but as soon as you step in it's like, "okay this place is cool." I highly recommend Irene's Cafe read more

Found Irene's on Yelp, so we thought let's go check it out. We arrived a little after 10:00 Sunday AM, just before the crowd started. Hadn't been here before so asked the waitress Madison if she recommended the House Potatoes or Hash Browns. She said she had some of the House earlier & they were tasty. Today's order was the Chopped Ham, Scrambled Eggs, House Potatoes w/Rye Toast. Surprisingly with how busy they were the food came out pretty quick and nice & warm. This Cafe was, used to be, a very good place to eat. Our most recent visit was very disappointing. The roaches in the bathroom may be an indication of a larger infestation in other areas, such as the kitchen. The restaurant, in general, was not as clean as it used to be. The sandwiches are small, full of shredded lettuce, and practically void of the meat and cheese the menu indicated was the feature of the sandwich. The bacon, as little as was given, was rock hard, like hard as a rock. The prices are high for what you get, and you literally have to pay extra, extra, for condiments and sides. The small, petite portion of potato salad served in a 1 Oz cup was either rancid or had way too much vinegar, which, on the positive side, would have kept it safe, but still inedible. Our disappointing meal wasn't good, took a long time to get, but the waitress was very nice. read more

I had pancakes & sausage & a coffee for about 16 bucks, my friend had the meat lovers (not pictured & that looked amazing), my other friend also said their eggs Benedict was awesome. . Im doing this review from my experience & my food.My pancakes were large & I took some home the sausage you can't tell were actually shriveled & not picturesque. Just the service was not up to par it woulda made a difference. I plan on returning for other plates & talked about meals such as their burgers. I hope that Irene's does well for its location.
