It's been a few years since my last review, so I decided to update it. I come here a few times a month and every single visit I receive excellent customer service, the food is impeccable and I leave extremely satisfied. The staff at Monica's is wonderful, you won't find better customer service in Kitsap, and I'd bet money on that :) Side note: I've never been a vanilla cupcake/cake fan... But I find myself often staying up late at night CRAVING one of their vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting.they're THAT good! I swear by them. Try one out and you'll love them too! I have driven by this place several times, and finally had a chance to go this morning with my 3 year old. This is a cute little bakery with seating on the inside and a hallway connecting to the neighboring store, Heart. The staff seemed friendly, we got our pastries to go. They don't have the biggest selection. There were savory croissants and quiches. They had several types of cookies on display, muffins, scones, bear claws, cinnamon twists, and sweet croissants. We chose a chocolate croissant and cinnamon twist. Both were very fresh, with the pastries perfectly cooked for flakiness on the outside and soft dough on the inside. The cinnamon twist was pretty good with a cinnamon/almond filling throughout the braid. The chocolate croissant was extremely chocolatey! And, I love chocolate, but it was a bit overwhelming. I will definitely return, I would love to try the almond croissant next time. read more

If you're a frequent customer sign up for the newsletter. Monica's seems to have all kinds of cool events and parties. I've never been, primarily because I live a ways away and my 1 year old doesn't like the taste of wine, but they sure seem like they'd be fun! I've tried a lot of their menu: from soups, to salads, to sandwiches. The tea selection is nice, the day old cookies for sale are cheap, and the atmosphere is friendly. Go. You'll like it. P.S. The quiche and the pain au chocolate are the two things that bring Monica's up to 5 stars from a very solid 4. Everything else I've had here has been great (soups, salads, sandwiches, assorted pastry) but the quiche is incredible and the pain au chocolate next thing to perfect. Because everything is delicious items sell out fast, so if you want a specific item make sure to get there early. read more

Just by chance I happened to drive past and decided to drop in. It looks like there is a good selection of baked goods and lunch items and according to what they say the use organic and local sourced items which is a plus in my book. Although I was the only person in the place I did have to wait a bit to be waited on since one person was on the phone and the other two were behind the counter doing something that precluded them from helping me or was not in their job descriptions. When I did get helped she was friendly. Cafe Umbra coffee was good and my Peach Muffin was excellent. So far, so good. Will drop in again read more

Monica's is located right across the street from the waterfront in old town Silverdale. It's impossible not to find this place delightful. The cafe is terribly small inside which is not usually an issue unless it's around lunch time when it's poppin'. My first time there I ordered the dill chicken salad. The portion was still pretty big for just being half and it tasted yummy! My second visit I got the pesto tortelloni because my best friend swears by it. I love it!!! This is totally a new favorite place of mine & I recommend everyone to check it out! read more

I was in search of a great sandwich one afternoon and ended up in Monica's. I had been there for a meeting/coffee once before but didn't really know what to expect. To be honest, I was really impressed. I ordered a tuna sandwich and a soy-caramel-latte. The sandwich was on super-fresh, homemade bread...it's the only joint in Kitsap I know of that makes sandwiches on fresh bread. Mmmmm. It had lots of fresh veggies (lettuce, tomato, sprouts) with the option for customization (I added avocado). All served with a pickle. Just the right size, and the right price. About $7. The latte was great, too. They had a case full of fresh baked goods that I was dying to try, but didn't have room for in my stomach. One negative comment, the service was on the slow side. But all in all I had a good experience and would recommend Monica's to a friend. read more

Overall, it's not terrible... but it's not great, either. The big selling point appears to be their effort to shop locally for food and "offset" their "carbon footprint" by doing certain things. I don't know that anyone will care, but perhaps using silverware instead of plastic would help in that endeavor... We've eaten there for breakfast and lunch and, although I wouldn't recommend their pasta, soups or salad... we did like their pastries! The sandwiches are tasty, too. Although the downstairs area is cluttered and small, the upstairs is open and has plenty of seating. Grab a menu outside and take a look before going in and that will certainly speed the visit. The ladies behind the counter were friendly and helpful both times. If anyone cares, the customers were a good mix of people of all ages and apparent stations in life. We were waiting for a family member and walked in to get a special treat. In the hurry of grabbing my toddler, I forgot my mask wasn't still on. None of the other customers/patrons were masked, and yet the worker glared at me, sneered and asked if I had a mask. It was so uncomfortable and upsetting. Instead of offering me a mask while I awkwardly wrangled my little person, the worker sneered and asked for my vaccine records. Yay for upholding state mandates, but rudely/poorly executed, and they had zero empathy/understanding. Will not be returning in the future. read more

This is a nice quaint place in old town Silverdale. It has ample seating and a very helpful staff. There is no hustle and bustle you would expect in a Starbucks...so that is a nice change. The quiches are really good. Ordered the spinach and mushroom quiche. Very tasty and portion size was good. Had a cold chai tea...you can hold a conversation without having to talk loud and you eat at a table....This is a place you can appreciate. read more

What a cute little breakfast space! Stopped in with a friend on a weekday morning, and it wasn't busy at all. We took our time deciding what to order - multiple choices of quiche, muffins, scones.......and non-traditional breakfast items like pie and cookies! They also had some sandwiches for the day, but I was on "vacation", so I decided to do what all vacationers should do at a bakery. I ordered pie for breakfast. And coffee. Ok, I also ordered a scone, but that went into my purse for later. The peanut butter pie was rich and delicious, and the scone was perfect. My friend ordered one of the quiches (which surprisingly came with toast and fruit!) and a bear claw. She loved the quiche, and she didn't get to finish the bear claw, so I got to take it home for later - score! It was absolutely delish, by the way. My wife and I love this place for lunch - a nice, local, small-town business with fresh ingredients and extraordinarily good food. Love the salads, love the wraps, love the cookies :-). The parking lot is pretty small and frequently packed at lunch time. There is a seating area upstairs if you would like to eat there, but we frequently get our food to go. Reading the other reviews, I was reminded that this is not a kid-friendly place. I have not experienced it first-hand, but my wife has tried coming here with friends and small children while I was out at sea and the small children were not well-received. The staff were very stern and complained the kids were making too much noise running around in the upstairs eating area. read more

We stopped in here for lunch today (Saturday). We were waited on by several very pleasant individuals and received our orders promptly. There seemed to be a very good selection of appetizing baked goods, sandwiches and salads to choose from. I ordered a soup (something verde with pork?). I thought the girl said it was not too spicy. I also had an Americano. Well the soup I could not eat due to the spiciness and I am someone who very rarely does not finish a meal. Also, either the coffee seemed very bitter or the soup ruined my tastebuds for the coffee. I don't know but I left unsatisfied. The place is small downstairs but plenty of seating upstairs. The decor was just kind of cute but a few of the caned chairs were in need of repair and I was afraid I would have been the last person to sit on them if I had chose them. I can't say I wouldn't go here again if in the area, maybe I need a few more tries to get it right. read more

I have allergies. But I will cheat and gladly suffer a small tummy ache for their berry scones w/drizzled frosting. so. freaking. delicious. I've tried both a strawberry and marionberry scone on different occasions. I'm salivating thinking about it. I've never even bothered asking what the ingredients are, I don't think I want to know, but I do know that it's worth it. I've only ever had their soups, tea, coffee, and the scones. Delicious dairy free soups served with fresh rolls. They offer coconut milk as a substitute for soy and dairy milk in their drinks. I think that is AWESOME. Keep up the good work with simple & local ingredients. I'd rather go to a little local coffee shop like this than a chain any day. read more

Monica's Waterfront Bakery is amazing! A year ago, I was instantly hooked the day that I came in for my birthday. I ordered a whole egg salad sandwich, an italian soda, and a cupcake - all for free. I was going through a hard time and it was such a wonderful thing to receive. A year later, I went in for almost the exact same lunch, minus the cupcake and add 2 bearclaws. The bread is so tasty! I'd even go as far as to say that it's probably even the best bread that I've ever had. For all the times that I've gone, I have yet to dislike anything about this place. It's also wonderful that they support their fellow local businesses and the times that I've spoken with Monica or her employees have been very pleasant. They're all really nice there! Monica's, and Monica herself, are both amazing! She catered my wedding last summer and everything was perfect! The food was unique, tasty, and beautifully presented, and I got so many compliments on it! She stayed in touch with me every step of the planning process and was incredibly helpful. If you've ever planned a big event, you know how important that quality is in a vendor. I also love how she focuses so much on what is local and in season, that was one of the main things that attracted me to the place in the first place. I love Monica's! Honestly, the interior and some of the staff reviews so far on here are relatively correct. Monica's isn't a high end restaurant, people--it's a local cafe. But, for the quality of the food and use of local ingredients, this is a great place to grab a bite on the go. I usually stop in and pick up a slice of quiche or an egg salad sandwich. Then it's on to dessert which, by the way, is amazing! I have no idea what these other reviewers are talking about--maybe they like Hostess--but Monica's cookies, pies, and other baked goodies are scrumptious. And, as someone who likes to bake, I have a hard time admitting when someone makes a better shortbread than me but theirs is amazing! read more

Went here at lunch time on a Wednesday. Wasn't overly impressed but not disappointed either, for a quick lunch spot it was good. Better than the Applebees/Olive Garden standby. Neither myself or my lunch date had been here before. You stand at the counter to order, gal taking orders wasn't super overly friendly, but nice enough, and I forgive her since it was lunch time and they were swamped. Watched her deal with an old lady giving her crap because "you mean there's vinegar in the balsamic VINAIGRETTE? I don't like vinegar". She handled it really gracefully and offered to make something else for her. From my understanding Monica's uses organic, local ingredients whenever they can, points for that. I had the 1/2 dilled chicken salad sandwich & 1/2 Caesar salad lunch combo: The salad was awesome. Dressed just enough so it wasn't soggy but not dry either. Not a creamy, goopy Caesar like a lot of restaurants drench their salads in. They make their own dressings also, so more points for that. By the time I was finished with my salad I was almost too full for my sandwich, but I managed. The chicken salad was more mayonnaise/filler than chicken, which was slightly disappointing, but it wasn't bad by any means. My lunch date had a roast beef sandwich, which she said was good. Enough meat and veggies on it. We both got chips & cans of soda and our total came to like $25, which I was a little surprised by, but the food was good, so we'd pay that and come again, but I'd order something different. read more

"Meh" describes my reaction perfectly. The cafe is in a little yellow building in old Silverdale. It has a good layout, with a few chairs outside and some nice seating upstairs. The menu consists of salad, soup, and sandwiches (and whatever pastries they have available). They apparently source their ingredients locally, which is good. The not so good: The food is pretty basic - the ingredients seemed fairly fresh, but nothing special. Bread options are very limited (Last time it was whole wheat or whole wheat) and the lunch meat is pretty bland. All sandwiches are custom-order; however, the last two times I have gone they have completely messed up our orders (multiple people had extra stuff or ingredients omitted from their sandwiches), and were not very nice when we asked for what we had ordered. On top of this, it is pretty expensive for what you get (a basic sandwich), particularly considering as it is Silverdale. All it all, it seems like you are paying a lot for a fairly mediocre experience. The place is nice enough, but it doesn't justify the meh food and the prices. read more

There is no better frosted shortbread cookie than one made at Monica's. You may feel it's pricey at first, but it is worth every penny. Peanut Butter cookies are good, too, but this shortbread cookie is the best. Monica is very nice, and actually made the cookies for my husband's birthday awhile back, and everyone loved them. They are his favorite cookie, and is disappointed if I go to Silverdale, and come home without cookies. Everything else looks great, too. I see several people have addressed the service there. It varies a lot, and goes from super nice, smiling, and memorable, to indifference with an attitude that you are a bother, and please hurry up and order. Truthfully the food is good enough to deal with either. Too bad though, but good employees are difficult to find. read more
