This place was always overpriced, especially the food, but a while back the owner fired all of their best staff and the one time I went afterwards I got rude service from the new hires. I never understood why. Then I pulled up one day and saw a "We Are Charlie Kirk" poster, complete with little crosses and a picture of his face, plastered across their entire drive-thru window. My rural Texan hometown coffee shop wouldn't even do that. Needless to say I haven't stopped here since. There are plenty of shops in the area with better coffee. read more

Yes! Yes! Yes! From friendly service to perfect drinks and fulfilling breakfast in density and flavor. We opted to go inside the cafe to order our take out breakfast. Seems like they may be working on the interior a bit, but it wasn't distracting. We were immediately greeted by a gal in the back. She kindly offered her recommendations when asked and was helpful in explaining ingredients and flavors. We ordered the $14 BB Burrito; eggs, bacon and cheddar - no skimping on this fatty breakfast burrito! Also got the $3.50 single slice avocado toast and added hard boiled eggs for an extra $1.50, def worth it. Don't be fooled by its appearance, so much flavor and deliciousness! The single slice was perfect for me, I loved the garlic, salt and pepper seasonings and sourdough. Aside from the traditional coffee drinks, they have smoothies and blenders. We got the Mango smoothie, smallest size is 16oz. Vanilla Chai tea latte with almond milk, so much yum! So glad we ventured 7 minutes off our route to check Hot Java Cafe out! read more

Never wished I lived in Bremerton until now! Just so I could be a regular here :) We stopped by here after picking up some plants at a nearby nursery and oh man, I haven't stopped thinking about the breakfast sandwiches here. First, they serve them all day. Like, I'm already in love. Second, they're delicious, made to order and DELICIOUS! We had the Islander (give me all the spam), the PNW and the croissant breakfast sandwich. So freaking good. I didn't even get a good photo of the croissant one b/c my 2 and 4 year olds devoured it so quickly. We also had their coffee and tried the special of that week - butterscotch latte. Super yummy. Plus they made my kids kid temperature hot chocolates, which I always appreciate. The lady working was so nice, they have a drive up window (which I walked up to?? Why did I think it was an outdoor ordering window b/c COVID, haha) Plus indoor and outdoor seating. 100/10 definitely need to come back here again. read more

I was caught between giving it three or four stars; decided on four because as a drive-thru just for coffee it's very nice. After seeing reviews of their meals I decided to give the indoors a try, and have a sit-down meal. Mere snacks for two people added up to $43 including tip, so even if it had been good stuff, probably wouldn't have returned because can get a real meal for that price. We first asked if there were vegetarian or egg-and-cheese but no red meat options. Instead of a yes or no, we got a lecture from the older woman on how ridiculous she considers vegans and anyone looking for gluten free bread and even threw in her disdain for kosher. Well, okay, eccentric weirdo, but maybe she really can cook. We persevered in our heroic effort to just order food without bacon in it. The main thing without bacon or beef was a breakfast burrito. I ordered that. It seemed healthy and not terrible, but I would never want it a second time as it was mostly just brown rice. My companion got tuna fish sandwich. She said it was good but for the price she could've made four of 'em even better at home. So we only loved our coffees. For a meal, I would never recommend this place, and am startled a few people thought it was great food (friends providing reviews as favors?). Several failed businesses ago, this Kitsap Way location was Simply Sublime, and they had a small menu of really great stuff; I had scrambled eggs with spinach and cheese, side of toast, about once a week with my morning coffee, without going into deep debt for a chance to relax. But Hot Java Cafe just won't do. Still a good coffee drive-thru though. I do hope them better success than the series of failed coffee cafes at this address, hence the four stars. We'll still be using the drive-thru. read more

We have always enjoyed the coffee at Hot Java and the people. Today we took advantage of indoor seating and ordered up some breakfast. We had a couple different croissants, one with sausage and one with bacon. The scrambled eggs were plentiful and fluffy. Flavorful cheese and really good flaky croissants. The burrito was packed with flavor and the grilled cheese was cheesy and crunchy but soft and gooey at same time. And yes, the coffee is really good too. Latte's are done well and priced right. The only tough part is parking but food and drink make it so worth it. read more

Delicious coffee for a mom & pop shop! The girl who helped me made my first time experience a great one! She was really helpful and patient.

The girls were nice and pretty quick. The reason I'm giving it 1 stars is the fact that it was 25$ for a small drink and a bagel sandwich! 25$ is insane. For a 17$ bagel I expected so much better. The middle was cold and it didn't come with a side or anything. I could get such a nice breakfast at a sit down for 17$ rather than the food I experienced. My local coffee shops would've been around 13$ for the same stuff I got. Not impressed. read more

I love this place -- I've loved every cafe that's been in this location and this one is no exception. Last week I really needed a mocha to make it to work and asked the barista to go easy on the flavoring and she had me taste it to make sure it was okay before taking my money. It was perfect. Grateful to see they have hot food as well. My freind orders a breakfast cresaunt, it looked amazingly good. Friend had the eggnog latte. I had a regular latte with vanilla, my usual. Boring is good. And it was good. Very hot. Did my usual set a timer before even tasting it. It was perfect, just sweet enough. The big speed bumps in the drive through was the only thing that wasn't excellent! Service was quick and friendly. The staff makes the experience. I had been wanting to stop in and try HJC and finally had the opportunity last week. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the product. I ordered a latte and breakfast sandwich. I'd give the latte 3* and the sandwich 4*. The place is casual and relaxing. Definitely, a place you could meet a friend for coffee and hang out a bit. Found this little place this morning and wow did I hit the jackpot. I got the Smokestack, and oh man, it did not disappoint. The combination of the sweet hot jam and the savory-ness of the sausage, bacon and eggs mingles with the creamy goodness of the cheese. Dang it was delicious. AND, the staff was so nice and welcoming. Sitting in there drinking my coffee waiting for my food was delight between the friendliness of the staff and comfy ambience of there dining area just felt like sitting at home. This is a little long so bear with me! Let me start off by saying that normally I would ALWAYS give Hot Java 5 stars. I love Julia, Deedee, and the blond lady that works there (sorry I haven't caught your name yet). They are always fabulous and a joy to chat with. I work in customer service and have even worked in food service before but I have NEVER treated someone the way I was treated yesterday morning at this establishment. I arrived at the drive thru with just one other car in front of me, yay! I see the barista hand the customer a ton of drinks (everybody has to get caffeinated!). He starts to pull away but only pulls forward enough that he's still halfway blocking the drive thru. I'm thinking "okay he had a lot of drinks maybe he just needs a sec." so I'm sitting waiting. After a few mins I lightly tap my horn. Not trying to be rude but there are other people in line, either pull forward enough that others can order or pull into a parking spot and get situated. Just common decency. The car moves, yay! Then I hear someone inside shouting at me " Hey! Come on now!" Really aggressively. No worries, I'll just apologize maybe I startled her. She comes up and I apologize. I'm like "hey sorry for honking but that guy was just not moving." Then I chuckle trying to not make it a big deal. She then proceeds to shame and scold me! She goes on about how they had a lot of drinks and I was just being super rude and shouldn't have honked, making me feel like total shit. I shouldn't have tipped but she made me feel like I was the bad guy in this situation. I literally left and cried. That's how I started my day. Everyone I told that story too told me she had NO right to speak to me that way and I totally agree. I just wish I had realized that in the moment because I would have said something. Usually I have a great experience at Hot Java but if I ever return and that tattooed lady is working I will ask for someone different. It was absolutely not okay to treat a customer that way. I am not a child in need of a scolding nor did I handle that situation inappropriately. Hopefully no one else encounters this woman on a bad day because she is quite nasty to her customers. read more
