My first experience here and I was sadly disappointed. The lemon raspberry cupcake was bland and dry. The frosting was waxy in taste. The croissants were also bland and dry. The customer service was really lackluster. The girl was slumped over the register like she was taking a nap and just had no energy. Didn't even greet me. I had to ask her if that's where I place my order. The pricing seemed fair for what you get. Overall, I really had hoped for more here. I've never been quite comfortable in my 6-8 visits here. Each time, something has happened, either a patronizing comment from a counter person, or subpar food. The last visit was the last straw. The owner's mother was extremely rude to me in front of everyone and I was embarrassed. I told the owner who sent her mother over to apologize and basically gave the nonapology "I'm sorry you took it wrongly." Forget it. No amount of overpriced, albeit excellent, food can make up for nasty treatment from the counter. read more

But the 9-10x i have been here I always leave asking myself the same question " are the pastries even worth it to wait in that tiny claustrophobic feeling place?" And my answer is always the same- no sadly it is not. There is nothing in there worth writing home to mom about. I've come in while at the Waterfront with my family and even my kids who love cookies and brownies have left the items I've purchased here untouched. Maybe I continue to come here to support a local business- I mean it isn't bad- but it isn't that good either. I also have to agree with another reviewer that they premake their sandwiches and heat them up with a panini press. I too asked for a 2 ingredient sandwich for my kids - a grilled cheese and was denied. Any place that totes it's customers as it's backbone but can't the easiest sandwich known to mankind- well I think I can find another local business to support. I should add I was contacted my the owner which is great and means they do take their reviews seriously and want to make adjustments if adjustments are needed that being said make sure to treat all customers regular and new the same. Granted I love when my local barista knows what drink to make me and makes small talk and whatnot but to have a full on conversation with the gal in front of me and then a paltry "hi what can I get you" well that's a fail in my book. I could've been a new transplant looking for my go to store. I've been to Monica's a few times now and sampled some of their quiches and sandwiches/wraps. Their roasted veggie panini is my favorite so far. While they do have a pretty good variety of lunch items, they aren't a huge store, so don't come in expecting 29 different desserts to choose from. I've only ever tried one cookie - an Oatmeal Ranger, that was pretty good. I love supporting local businesses and Monica's is definitely worth a try :) read more

This place is darling. I brought my two young boys here for a lunch date, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was a comfortable place for all of us. The girls who work here are super friendly. Cute little cafe. The first time I was here, I didnt know there was a second floor so I thought it was tiny. Finding out that it was a two-story cafe definitely won me over since most cafes around here have only one floor. There's not much of a view from up there since it just overlooks the street but it's still something. The second floor is spacious so it's great for groups. There's a big table that can seat about 8 people and many 4 seat tables as well as a loveseat you can lounge in. I like their Mexican mocha (albeit it being too powdery sometimes); pair it with their lemon bars (2.50 a piece) and it enhances the flavor. Their Americanos are a little runny so I never ordered it again after that first time. The service could be better too. For me, whenever I'm not greeted with a smile (or greeted at all, it discourages me to come back. The girls who work there do the bare minimum and in a robotic manner. They have a lot of delicious pastries and quiches available but because of their mediocre service, I never felt the urge to come back and try them one by one as much as I usually would want to. read more

Oh My Goodness!!! Where to begin..............the wonderful smells when you walk into this cute little cafe. My son and I had lunch here, he had a ham and cheddar croissant, I had a crab, asparagus & mozzarella quiche, oh were we happy!! The cookie choices are almost too much. It was difficult to choose just 2. I had the frosted shortbread, YUM. My son had the Ranger cookie, YUM. I can't imagine how anyone could visit this cafe and not be impressed. I really like Monica's! My friends from work and I come here often for lunch. The place can get packed, and Its easy to feel clausterphobic (sp?) in line as your try to order. If you want to get in and out fast don't sit down, take it to go.. It can take a while for them to get your meal to you if you go upstairs but its so yummy i really didn't care. Management and customer service seems great to me... and I am from bainbridge island and can be a super snob about that crap ;-) hahaha... Chicken dill sandwich - was sold to me from the woman behind the counter as THE FAVORITE. I got it and it was okay a little too much crunchy greens in there and not enough nice chicken chunks if you ask me! The seating is tight and uncomfortable - only because I felt like our neighbors were breathing on our table and listening to every whispered word we uttered. There is a lot of shuffling around to get your coffee and make it through the tables to be seated. The coffee did taste good though. It was just something different to try out. I could see it being a nightmare to go to if overly busy. I'd say it is over priced for what you get. like 10$ for a simple sandwich on sliced bread? The food is pretty good, but I don't get why people love it so much. The shop is TINY. You stand in line, squished against people because there's no room, order, then go upstairs for a table. Both times I went I felt claustrophobic and wanted to leave before I even ordered. This is NOT a kid-friendly place. They have kid books and stuff upstairs but don't let that fool you. There's not enough space and the people that go here for lunch are themselves not kid-friendly. Same with the little overpriced shop next door. My 2 yr old was behaving well, but making noises and sounds that toddlers make, and giggling (no screaming or hollering by any means), and I got glares from all over the room. The food I felt was overpriced for both what you got and the atmosphere you were paying for. I nearly forgot - one of my biggest issues is they premake their sandwiches and then just heat up the "paninis". I tried to get just a grilled cheese sandwich for my daughter and they couldn't do it. They have a panini press and could not make a sandwich with 2 ingredients. They have paninis and hot sandwiches, but they're not made to order. I think if its going to take 20-30 min to get my food after I've ordered, it should at least be what I want and made fresh. I'm a picky eater with a sensitive stomach and I don't want to waste ingredients that I know I will not eat, so the fact that the sandwiches are premade meant about 1/2 the menu was no longer an option for me. Why should I pay $8-10 and wait 20 min for a sandwich that was made hours ago, will just be reheated, and has stuff on it I don't want? read more

But you are right, I don't understand your labor costs, if I had to guess I would say the owner is being overcompensated... Wikipedia has a list of traditional baked goods, things like bagels, biscuits, and donuts... Do you sell donuts? Does every other bakery in 100 miles sell donuts? How about showing some pride and spending more words describing your cookies and less words making me hate you. I used to come here all the time growing up! I think it's a great little local cafe with yummy warm drinks and baked goods! everyone is very nice and the food for me is always very satisfying! the price may be a bit on the higher side for a small town place but I figure I would be spending around the same amount if I were back home in renton anyway! I also love to support the locals! there is a nice comfy cozy lift upstairs where you can enjoy your meal and enjoy quiet conversations with friends or family! I LOVE this place! The menu is limited, but everything they do, they do right! I have had the quiche, chicken focaccia, dilled chicken sandwich, a few of the pastries, and pretty much every salad and all of them were fantastic! It is one of the very few places to get a fresh and delicious lunch or breakfast in Silverdale. I have never had a problem finding parking or seating and the service has always been great! The overall rating for this place does not do it justice. Just read some of the one-star comments that are bringing the rating down and it's pretty clear those people are ignorant and hateful. read more

Everything is delicious! If you really want to die of sweet rich chocolatey goodness, you want the 7 layer bars. Oh, the croissants are to die for in several different fillings. It's in a great location by the water and you can smell the fragrance from the bake goods as you walk up the sidewalk. It's a little pricey, but hey- that's what good baked goods cost. Yes, you have to wait in line a little bit- But obviously, if there is a line it's because people are willing to wait. This place is refreshing, especially in the Silverdale area, as almost everything is a corporate crap fest. It's nice to have something that you know hasn't been frozen and delivered on a truck. I was in Silverdale and searching for something other than Red Robin or Arbys to eat. Not easy! Randomly, I turned into the old town section and spotted this bakery and thought I would give it a try for lunch. First thing I noticed was the baked goods! The chocolate truffles and ranger cookies definetly caught my eye. I'd be back for one later! First, real food for lunch. I got the half sandwich and soup combo for about $8.50. I had the turkey with lettuce, mayo, and cranberries, on their own baked bread. I paired it with the Dahl (Indian style lentil) soup. The sandwich was very good, the soup was so-so. It was a hot day so soup probably wasn't the best choice anyway. I grabbed a cherry ranger cookie on the way out and it was yum! I think it had rice krispies in it. A few weeks ago a local orthodontist dropped off some goodies from Monica's at the office where I work - I took one bite of a chocolate croissant and practically died and went to heaven. I had to check this place out. I've been back a few times - each time I can't pass up those chocolate croissants - their other baked goods are wonderful as well - I haven't disliked anything I've had there. My only note on the baked goods is that I don't think they use preservatives because one day I bought 2 croissants so I could have one the next day. The next day I noticed that the outer layer(s) was (were) a little dry - still tasted good, but I know that the ones you buy from places like Safeway don't dry out that quick (which after eating the croissants from here, I will not buy any from a grocery store again lol). On one visit I bought an avocado sandwich - tasted good, but the bread was almost a little too soft and the veggies were falling out of the sandwich. The bread, like the other baked items, tasted great though! The price - 7.50 - was a bit high I felt for the sandwich. The bread was good, but honestly, I could have sacrificed bread quality and made the same sandwich at home a lot cheaper, so I took off one star for that. I have not had their soup, quiche (not a quiche fan), coffee or wine, nor have I dined in the cafe - I've taken everything to go. The service is a bit slow if you order something - usually only one or two people working the front at a time. If you're just there for cookies or pastries, you get it right away and the staff seems friendly. I will definitely keep visiting this bakery to satisfy my sweet tooth! read more

Monica Bakery is a friendly must try restaurant in the heart of Downtown Silverdale. Monica's shines with its good quality ingredients, coffee and café pastries which are more than reasonably priced, but the menu falters in its overpriced lunch items, small portions, and hit or miss dishes. Here's a typical problem, good ingredients, poor conception. The Greek salad is just lettuce and olives, nothing else. Mostly lettuce. The spaghetti squash salad is just lettuce and a tiny bit of spaghetti squash. Actually, almost every dish on the menu has just one or two ingredients in its entirely, and gets bland after 1 or two bites. That's with a hefty price tag too. I might add the focaccia needs to be thrown off the menu. The turkey wrap is great, but I wish it used turkey in the style of salad rather than cold cuts. But don't get me wrong, this place is worth it on a rare outing. The owner has a good, well run business, and unfortunately it would just make a few changes to really turn this restaurant into a 5-star business. Larger portions and more ingredients would make me revisit my review with a 5-star rating. There's no reason why this bakery can't shine. read more
