Peshastin is a beautiful little town nestled up against the national forest with miles of high-quality trails a short distance away. It doesn't have the bland appeal of Wenatchee or the in-your-face tourist vibe of Leavenworth. The homes are generally small, and the people are nice. There aren't too many shops or restaurants. It is hard to compete with the multitude of options in Leavenworth only 8 minutes away, including the quality Safeway. The one, and I think only, popular spot in Peshastin is Old Mill Tavern. It's a divvy bar that generally has a bunch of cars parked out front on weekend evenings. We didn't test out Old Mill Tavern as a drinking hole; instead, we ordered takeout. Sometimes, these types of hole in the wall spots have great food. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and my wife got the tacos and a side of fried pickles. The best item was certainly the pickles. Compared with most fried pickles, which are fried crosswise and require a fork, Old Mill cuts its pickles lengthwise, long enough to pick up by hand and retain some of the pickle moisture. The rest of the food did not have many redeeming qualities. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries, because if you are at least making an effort, it's not hard to make a decent burger. Fresh meat patties for the burger on a decent bun from the local grocer and a little practice on the fryer with fresh fries is all it takes. The appearance and quality of the meal gave me the sensation that the owner of Old Mill looked at the kitchen to find areas for cost cutting: frozen patties instead of fresh, cheapest buns and fries. I can't say that Old Mill is a bad bar. Many dive bars are not designed for food, only having a beer.

Today my heart was broken. I love OMT for being a beautiful, clean, well laid out tavern with all the bells and whistles. Great whisky selection, all the oat sodas and such you could ask for. Great staff and service too. Plus the food has always been great, until today that is. Had the burger for the first time today and was disappointed. It was fine honestly- tasty toppings, good bun, but I knew right away it was not "right". Checking the patty gave it away, perfectly uniform brown color and crumbly texture - this is pre-made and might have some TVP(Textured Vegetable Protein) in it. Yup, you know that burger I'm talking about. That one that comes frozen fully cooked and you nuke late at night. I just don't understand how you can have such a great bar and then cheat the meat? So cooking a frozen all beef from scratch vs cooking a prefab patty is not feasible? I'm scratching my head here honestly. Keep in mind that I'm not a business owner and don't know the back story, but I just don't see the upside to this. In any case, I will absolutely be back - I just won't be having a burger ever again. Not that it was bad, I'm just trying to live my best burger life y'all.

Friendly staff and excellent patrons to interact with while you're visiting. Great bar food options! The Tatchos are huge and loaded with nacho sauce. We'll definitely be back.

What a great bar! Live music on Tuesdays out in the beer garden. Wonderful owner. Great bartenders. Will go back again and again.

The chillies were not comforting, and the taste is a little off. Can't tell if it it's the seasoning or the meat itself, but the taste is quite bland and lack flavors. The fish and chips batters however were way too salty. I squint when I ate it. The hot apple cider is good tho, can't complain. The service were not great. We ordered a glass and chose the option to take the glass home (+10.50 more), they told us when we finish they can wash it out and wrap it for us. But when we brought the glass to them, they did not wash it, but instead just dump out the ice, give it a spray (not even proper wash off the greases!) and then called it proper. From the moment we walked in till the moment we walked out, no one care what we ordered or talked to us, feels like I'm at an abandon McDonald. Not great. Ambiance is average. Not good, not bad.

The bartender was friendly, so there's that. This place gets 3 stars for being open later and having a friendly bartender. It loses two for the other issues. We went outside and everyone was smoking. We made sure to close our tab so that our tip will go to her before she left. She answered all our questions and if she wasn't sure, she made sure to get the answer elsewhere for us. There was a football game that didn't start for another hour so we asked if we could play pool. She let us know that the projector would need to be put up but said to play pool anyways and she'll see what night staff would do. So we did. We were finishing up our last game and went back to our seats. My bf asked the new servers if they could play the sound of the game and he just flat out said "no". I then asked a different server if we could pull down the projector like it was earlier with the sound, and he looked at me straight in the eye and said "no" and walked away. There was no conversation. I would have appreciated it if we were given a reason as why it wasn't possible when they were doing it the entire day. After our original server left, we were not checked on at least once. The only time we got their attention was when we had to waive them down and asked for a beer. When we finished that, we left it on the table to see if they would notice. I started a timer too. The bartender or server was playing poker too which I didn't understand considering it was pretty busy. My bf who plays poker noticed one of the dealers wasn't dealing top card during the game so be cautious playing the card game here. At this point, with the timer still going, we were not checked on for 20 min. We're closing out and leaving to different bar.

When we asked the server, she just said it's German inspired and therefore, always not much meat in there. She took the plate and threw the food out, we assumed we'll get a new plate. Nothing happened and we walked over and she was like, no replacement was placed, the manager did the right thing and refunded the dish and he also didn't seem too surprised. Seems to be a common complaint? Note to the owner, if you don't want to put meat in the schnitzel, don't serve it or make it more expensive to cover the cost so people get food and not fried breading. How service is dealing with issues is also important, especially when problems are clearly known. German inspired doesn't mean serving subpar food is ok, but I guess in a town like this, a couple complaints don't matter, plenty more people are coming. If you decide to come here, stay with the sausage or american food and enjoy the nice outdoor patio. Skip the German stuff please.
