This is a hidden gem hiding right on Front street. The happy hour is excellent: $5 off cocktails, pitchers, glasses of wine and appetizers. From 3:30 to 5 I believe. We get up the stairs and are greeted and offered to pick a table. We grab a good window seat up here on the top floor. Service is immediate, friendly and helpful. Jägerschnitzel is very flavorful and breaded well. The portobello mushrooms and pickled shallots are a perfect accompaniment for that delicious flavor profile. The gravy is exceptionally well done. We also have a side of the Smashed Rosemary Spring potatoes... they are a good addition to the schnitzel. The potatoes appear to be a yellow potato variety and have a unique flavor. They are seasoned, they are cooked well and lightly smashed then baked. They are buttery delicious and as a side dish, the portions are generous enough to be an entree themselves. The Spätzle is very cheesy and has a sweetness from the onions, another delicious side. The portions here are generous and you will not leave hungry. 5 Star for Service and Quality of food read more

We chose this restaurant at the recommendation of an individual working in a local wine tasting room and one of our travelers wanted German food. One member of our group is vegan and the menu's entrees possessed limited vegetarian options, salad or grill cheese. Our server was outstanding! He had to managed 5 different checks at our table. We started out with ordering drinks and upon arrival our main dishes. We were there for dinner, it was not busy, low season. The restaurant is on the second floor of a Main Street building. It is modern and airy. Our table was in an alcove with windows on one side, our view was a hotel. I ordered the seasonal vegetable salad, no protein added- vegetarian! I ate the whole thing! It was good. I believe the roasted vegetable was sweet potato. My friend ordered a side of Brussel sprouts, they were wonderful! I added them to my salad, very nice addition! The brussel sprouts tasted sweet like they were drizzled with honey, they were cooked perfectly! Two friends ordered a German dishes, one cleaned his plate and the other ordered a sausage dish, more than she could eat but delicious. Another friend ordered a brat paddy sandwich, delicious! All and all we were satisfied with our experience! Worth visiting! I love the option of the QR code on the receipt to make payment, wish all restaurants used this option. read more

I finally made it to Leavenworth this past weekend and after browsing a ton of menus, I landed on Colchuck's and I'm so glad I did! The restaurant is located on Front Street which was within walking distance from where we were staying, ultimately making it an easy, convenient, and relaxed choice for dinner. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Sunday evening and were seated right away, which was a pleasant surprise. I later realized they have a popular happy hour that ends before then...note to self for next time!! Despite missing that, the experience was still great! Our server, Danielle F., was friendly, attentive, and clearly knowledgeable about the menu and even the surrounding area despite only recently moving to the PNW. She made some great suggestions and checked on us frequently without being overbearing. I started with the Pretzel Bites, which I expected would come out as an appetizer/starter, but they were delivered alongside our entrees. Not a dealbreaker, just something to note for those hoping to space out their meal. For my entree, I ordered the Weinerschnitzel and it was fantastic. The veal was incredibly tender and the combination of brown butter, arugula, lemon citronette, shaved parmesan, and capers added the perfect contrast of richness and brightness. Every bite was incredibly balanced and flavorful. The sage spaetzle served on the side was another highlight and I certainly could've eaten an entire bowl of it on its own! The ambiance was cozy and slightly dimmed, perfect for a chill dinner with friends or a more intimate date night. Prices felt fine for the quality, portion sizes, and location. My only disappointment was that they had already sold out of oysters by the time we arrived. I was really looking forward to trying them but I guess that just means I'll have to come back earlier next time! Colchuck's is easy to miss in downtown Leavenworth as they are located on the second floor with just a flight of stairs that takes you up. But it's so good, you must not miss it! They are mid street just past the gazebo. Take the stairs up and the main dining room is to the left and some 4 tops on the other side face the street with beautiful views of downtown. Colchuck's is family friendly with a nice open layout, but there is bar area for 21+ too. The full many offers several types of schnitzel and all are fantastic. I tried the jager schnitzel with spatzel and cabbage and it totally hit the spot. Kids menu is reasonably priced and had options they liked. They have a good beer list and make nice cocktails too, especially some hot ones to warm up after a day out in the snow. The servers were kind, the hostess went out of her way to show our kids a great view of the holiday lights downtown. We are visiting family in Washington, and decided to visit Leavenworth on a day trip. We visited Colchuck's for a quick beer and snack when we arrived in thr area at 1pm on Friday, December 27th. This spot is located up steep stairs, and is a pretty good size restaurant. We were seated quickly at the bar and greeted by the bartender, Eric, who was super friendly and attentive while we were there. He asked us about our visit and got us our beers and put in the order for the Bavarian pretzel. The Bavarian pretzel was enough for 4 to share! It comes with 3 sauces and my favorites were the beer cheese and stone ground mustard. Eric ended up leaving and introduced us to Jessica who was taking over as bartender and even more wonderful! Sadly, it doesn't come with spatzle but they did have a side order option which I ended up ordering. The schnitzel was $25 alone, and the spatzle side brought it to $35. My meal was absolutely delicious and nostalgic of eating German food in Leavenworth as a kid. I was also pleased to see that the spatzle side was very large. It could easily be shared as a side between several people, I brought leftovers home. My sister ordered the braised brisket and was raving about it. I will say that for a Saturday in Leavenworth they were pretty busy and we had to wait about 15 min for a table of 3 so keep that in mind when you're thinking about where to eat. If you like German food prior to your visit then maybe you would think different but my expectations were not met based on the reviews I read before coming. Everything was just alright. Cute little place with traditional German fare (and a few Asian inspired items). We went for the traditional dishes - veal schnitzel (served with arugula and lemon - very refreshing) and red cabbage. Cabbage is cooked with the mulling spices and it was amazing. They have rotating cider in tap and I loved their current selection - lavender! The server/bartender was exceptional, friendly, and also deftly dealing with a boisterous group of drinking friends. I asked for something hot to drink- with a little alcohol. Nothing from the menu but he made me something which I greatly appreciated. It wasn't a "little" alcohol however- I will sleep well. It's clean, well lit, woodsy decor, windows, casual and pleasant. The German dip is the best item on the menu but it's only served at lunch (this should be corrected asap cause it's too good to only have at lunch time). Overall the food was good but the the German Dip is the best thing to eat in the entire town! Service during our first visit was top notch. During our second visit it was far from top notch which is odd considering we had the same server (male bartender). During our second visit an item wasn't brought out with our meal. My wife asked for it and the bartender apologized then retrieved it and set it in front of my wife firmly and gave off some bad vibes. Then after we ate we sat for a bit and finally the bartender came back around and my wife asked for a check. Once again the bartender reached past me and our other guests to slap the check down in front of my wife. Middle of the table or to one of the men would be preferred. If you aren't sure where to set it try asking next time. Overall this is a great spot maybe more so for lunch than dinner. We had hoped to watch Sunday night football in the bar since we saw they had a tv on our prior visit. Located upstairs above Stein's across from the main town square/ Front Street Park. They have burgers, sandwiches, German fare and some appetizers. You're pretty much limited to burgers and sandwiches here so do make sure your party is aware. I had the "Le Royale" specialty burger ($23) which came with a 1/2lb total of Kobe beef patties (sourced locally from a ranch in the Okanogan Washington region), melted brie, bacon jam, sautéed mushrooms, onions, and a balsamic glaze. The burger was out of this world delicious with the heaping of ingredients; a mix of sweet and savory. It did taste better than it looked. They could have used different breading for the buns, but I digress because the burger DELIVERED. The white truffle aioli sauce used the dip the crunchy fries was unique. We rounded off by sharing a Bavarian pretzel served with Beecher's Cheese Sauce. It came out piping hot and was so fresh and glazed perfectly. I was comforted immensely and triply with the addition of a cold German Pilsen in hand to wash all that yumminess down. It was pretty quiet on a Sunday afternoon at 1pm which was a godsend because we were ravenous! Cannot recommend a post-hike burger or sandwich here more! I was grateful they were open when they were on Sunday for our exit from the wilderness, but disappointed to learn they were not open on Monday-Wednesday. They have the most unique goat graphic memorabilia which was priced fairly and, unfortunately, is not available online. Sad to have missed out on this merchandise! Colchuck's, like many Leavenworth businesses, pay homage to locations within the Enchantments. As such, the business is named after the famed Cholchuck Lake which is located at the base of Aasgard's Pass. You will find many a mountain goat near the upper portion of this lake especially near the boulder field before the pass hence all the goat memorabilia! First time we are coming here since the remodel. We were looking for something slight different than others but we don't want bar food. We found the menu offers some fusion German cuisine. Sounds very interesting and we decided to give it a try. We did not disappoint. The Thai chicken schnitzel comes with two pieces of chicken cutlets. Peanut sauce just like eating Thai food. It was done perfectly. We also tried the rock fish schnitzel. The portion is not as big as the chicken but it is so refined the tomatoes side cooked just right and balanced between sweetness and sour. They also serve traditional schnitzel and other dishes. They all sound good. Really hard to choose from. The remodel looks great. I think it is classy. The hostess and the waitress are very nice to us. We came here on a weekend evening and the wait was short, around 5-10 minutes. The hostess and our waiter were all kind and helpful. We ordered the bbq chicken sandwich, Nashville chicken sandwich, and the original bratwurst, all with fries. The food was pretty good but there were a few things that were not as good. The bbq burger, which I substituted chicken in for, could have used some more sauce. Like the Nashville chicken sandwich, there were two chicken Patties, although on the thinner side, it made the sandwich feel much bigger than it should have been. Because only one patty had sauce on it, the other chicken patty tasted bland. The fries were really tasty and fresh. Apparently the Nashville sandwich had too much hot sauce in it.
