Anybody that can handle the breeders, like we are, it's much appreciated. Delicious German food fare for a quick stop in Leavenworth.

Underground, low key spot in downtown Leavenworth. I ordered takeout from here. Pretzel & Beer Cheese ($11) - giant pretzel, I wish they gave more beer cheese but it was delicious. Cup of Soup ($5.75) - I got the Ham & Pea Soup. I liked it :) Came with a roll, butter, and crackers.

    The Banger ... :/

It was a cold day so the idea of a 'Soup Cellar' sounded amazing... after looking at the menu we realized that this place only has 3 soup options and then a chefs choice... we settled on 'The Banger' which was advertised as a German sausage with melted swiss cheese on a hoagie roll. It was subpar- what we received was a greasy ballpark quality hot dog with a slice down the middle that they shoved swiss cheese into. The workers were very friendly but the food was not worth the visit and we would not recommend this place if you're looking for authenticity.

About a 1-1.5: While we were roaming around Leavenworth, we decided to give The Soup Cellar a try for lunch. The menu offers burgers, brats, sandwiches, prime rib, baked potatoes, a salad bar, chili, and various Bavarian plates. A few things caught our attention, such as no other patrons were choosing this place to dine-in, and the place itself was a little dingy and had a funky smell. I think we should have saw these as signs to change our minds and find another place! We sat in one of the booths, and we ordered the following: +a Mushroom and Swiss Burger +a Sausage Sample Plate +White Chili with Chicken +and, a Reuben The food was just not great - they were either soggy, had no seasoning, super bland, came out room temperature, or just inedible. The chili, which I was looking forward to try, tasted like a combination of bad cream of mushroom with shredded chicken and milk. It was super thin and watered down. Eeks! Service was also spotty - we were never checked upon, as we were missing beverages, silverware, condiments, etc. It was just a pain. I wished we would have gone to another eatery, but, at least now we know not to return! +avoid the food +spotty service +funky odors

We have a favorite restaurant in Leavenworth but we thought we'd try something different this time around. We walked along Front Street and chanced upon The Soup Cellar. The place is located in the basement, but is well-lit and busy when we walked in. The staff was welcoming but when it started to get really busy, service went downhill. The food was okay (nothing to rave about). Fish n Chips were good, but disappointed with the sausages. This restaurant is great for families. Too bad we were done with our meal when they told us about their pretzels. Maybe next time.

Bland sausage platter with a dinner roll (not brotchen), average sauerkraut.

Staff is amazing. Super friendly. Food is not fresh just heated up. Soup is not great. $40 for two adults is a lot for Sysco food

The restaurant is tucked away in a basement with fun Bavarian décor, but my favorite place to sit is actually outside along the street during the summer. Grab a local beer, people-watch, and soak in the Leavenworth vibe. The service was friendly, and they had a solid selection of local beers on tap. I ordered the schnitzel, which was a bit smaller than the traditional German portions I've had elsewhere. It leaned a little dry, and the breading was just okay--not bad, but nothing that really stood out. That said, not every meal has to be perfect to be worth the stop. The atmosphere, beer selection, and overall experience make it a place I'd still recommend when you're visiting Leavenworth. Sometimes it's just about embracing the Bavarian charm, and this restaurant definitely helps deliver that.

Even though you are in Leavenworth and there is a theme throughout the town, this place just feels like you're in another place. From the walk down the stairs to the entrance, to the decor, there's not a whole lot that was missed here. Our seats were tucked back at the back of the restaurant in a little nook that had only one side to the table. It was optimum for people watching. The servers were slammed constantly, but they did a great job of consistently stopping by and filling our waters with a smile. My wife got what she came here for. The schnitzel and spatzel. Let it be known that after our first venture here we decided that we needed to learn how to make schnitzel and spatzel at home. In that time I'm pretty sure we perfected it. The schnitzel this time around was good, but not what we remembered. The breading consistently fell off the meat which was a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, it was still tasty. One of the gravy's that we ordered(we ordered both), came out more like an au jus. Very thin with little flavor. Spatzel hit the mark and accompanied the schnitzel very well. I ordered a sampler a knockwurst, the seasonal sausage(it was smoked, that was the only description I got). I don't remember the name of the other one. Both the nameless sausage and the seasonal smoked ones were good, but not memorable. The knockwurst was the one I remembered the most, but not in a good way. It came out looking like a hot dog on steroids and just did not have good flavor at all. The sampler came with a couple slices of pickles, onion and mustard. The mustard did help, but I feel that a side of sauerkraut should have been apart of the presentation and would have elevated the flavors of the plate very well. We did also order a pretzel that was accompanied by a cup of cheese which we utilized to the fullest. While not as satisfying as our first visit, I feel that we will probably give this spot another go next time and hope for the same results we had the first time we came here. There were many other plates that passed us by and I would be more than willing to explore the menu.

Hence our visit to the Sausage Garden. The seating was great and spacious, even had headers under the covered areas which was super nice. Now to the food.... Sadly a bit disappointed in that area. We had a large group of folks so a good variety of sausages were ordered. The kids ordered the curry wurst and seemed to like it for the most part. For those that ordered the bratwurst we had a tough time eating cause the shell seemed to be incredible thick and hard to bite. Taste overall was okay, a bit on the salty side but not horrible. Just really hard to physically chew is where I struggled with. Also ordered the soup which was very broth and simple. Since there was potatoes I was thinking it would be a bit thicker but it hit the spot nonetheless. Overall impression, not a bad place with a nice place to take a rest. There are tastier places near by but I do enjoy the thought of supporting something more local. Just with the food wasn't so tough to consume.
