It was a cold day so the idea of a 'Soup Cellar' sounded amazing... after looking at the menu we realized that this place only has 3 soup options and then a chefs choice... we settled on 'The Banger' which was advertised as a German sausage with melted swiss cheese on a hoagie roll. It was subpar- what we received was a greasy ballpark quality hot dog with a slice down the middle that they shoved swiss cheese into. A few things caught our attention, such as no other patrons were choosing this place to dine-in, and the place itself was a little dingy and had a funky smell. I think we should have saw these as signs to change our minds and find another place! We sat in one of the booths, and we ordered the following: +a Mushroom and Swiss Burger +a Sausage Sample Plate +White Chili with Chicken +and, a Reuben The food was just not great - they were either soggy, had no seasoning, super bland, came out room temperature, or just inedible. The chili, which I was looking forward to try, tasted like a combination of bad cream of mushroom with shredded chicken and milk. It was super thin and watered down. Eeks! We have a favorite restaurant in Leavenworth but we thought we'd try something different this time around. We walked along Front Street and chanced upon The Soup Cellar. The place is located in the basement, but is well-lit and busy when we walked in. The staff was welcoming but when it started to get really busy, service went downhill. The food was okay (nothing to rave about). Fish n Chips were good, but disappointed with the sausages. This restaurant is great for families. Not only was the inside less than mediocre, there is a gross carpet, which looks old and so wrong to have in a restaurant. You get menus and have to come to the register to order. We made our choices quickly but the wait was about 40 minutes for the food to come out. And wow! It's as bad as you may imagine. The fries were fantastic which is I give one star for. Second star is for the split pea soup. Although a little saltier than I like, it tasted good. The brat was rock solid. Ok, so this joint was better than I was expecting, mainly based on reviews I read. It's tucked down in the basement and not the nicest ambiance, but it's a solid option for a family with young kids. Sure, there's the bratwurst place down the street outside and it's good, but she LOVES the Soup Cellars Bratwurst, and guess what. So do I. I've never ordered anything else in the restaurant and I've never been disappointed. It's always delicious. The brats are HUGE and delicious. They're mild, not too sausagey, and they go SO well with the delicious sauerkraut. It's a low carb, flavor fiesta in your mouth! Oh! And don't forget the warm German Potato Salad. Leavenworth is busy most of the year. As the temperatures become cooler during the day and Oktoberfest nears, the population of Leavenworth increases significantly. Finding great places to come out of the crowds and enjoy a warm meal amongst friends and family becomes a priority. The Soup Cellar has solved the problem of figuring out how to feed two adults and four kiddos. The tables in the back can comfortably seat a party of nine. At the center of the table is the widest selection of condiments that I've quite possibly ever seen. This says a lot about how once the food is prepared, The Soup Cellar gives many opportunities to customize the finished product at the table. The ordering process goes as follow; Get seat - receive a menu - go to the register and order food - get drinks - get food. It's important to remember the part about going to the register to order. For the food I had the BBQ Burger and fries, my better half had the White Chili, and the kids had burgers, chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, and mini corn dogs. This place did the fries PERFECT!!!! Golden, crispy, specimens of what fries should be. The burger was better than a fast food burger, but not a top of the line burger. It's great, I don't feel it's what they are shooting for. It's a burger that fills a person up, it tastes great, had great texture with the melted cheese and sautéed onions. The service Our waitress, once we figured out the ordering process was super friendly and helpful. The table was clean before we arrived, this is something I look for often. Mediocre lunch spot along Front Street in Leavenworth. As the name suggests, it's in a basement across the street from the gazebo, and they serve soups, sandwiches, and some brat dishes. I had the California BLT which was decent though a part of me wishes I asked to hold the cheese because I felt there were too many flavors going around. Bacon was nice and crisp and I liked the toasted sourdough bread it was on. Fries were fantastic too, I want to know where those are from. My family had various bowls of soup, and they said all the flavors were watered down. Took quite some time to get down into the restaurant (it only seats 66) and some more time to wait for our food but with the crowds - it was to be expected. There were signs on the front door saying that the business was for sale as the owners were retiring after having run the place for quite a while. Google I have been coming to Leavenworth for 20 plus years. I have never had a worse experience in my entire life at any merchant. Leavenworth is full of happiness and love and all the restaurants and shops here have always treated my family the best. I have a 3 pound service dog. Yesterday my husband went down to the soup cellar and asked the employee at the counter if we could dine with our service dog. We were told yes. This restaurant you order at the counter then go to a table. The service dog was with us while we ordered and they happily took our 65 dollars for soup that clearly came out of a can. We were not done eating and a woman employee approached our table from behind me as I was starting to have a medical episode. My service animal baked once to notify my family an episode was coming and the female employee aggressively approached our table and said "if your dog continues to bark you will have to remove him" I made my way out with my three pound service animal to get medical attention. My husband and adult son stayed back to address how we were treated. The women employee went on to tell them my dog was not a service dog and that she was trained to identify them. My son offered to go grab his certification and they refused to look at it. In addition the employee said my dog didn't have a vest on which he didn't we carry a paper certification We specifically asked before we ordered They happily took our money instead of saying he needed his vest for us to dine The women employee and OWNER who refused to identify himself said my THREE pound dog tried to attack the women employee. He never left my arms and barked to identify a medical episode. I looked up the owner on the tax records and called him the next day. He was rude argumentive and lied. Their food is AWFUL. Do yourself a favor and get a can of soup from Safeway.... Thank god Visconti's gave us dinner at 50 percent off and said that's not how we want Leavenworth represented. This place was very mediocre. The service and food was alright. It wasn't bad but it's not great at all. The price is really overprice. I get it, it's located on a tourist street, but the portion size is very small and it's just wasn't worth it in my opinion. Even though they are called the soup cellar, I believe their soup should be locked up in a cellar for being bad.
