    Schnitzels (chicken and pork)
    Rima Z.

I knew the food would not be on par with meals in Germany, so I adjusted my expectations accordingly. That being said, it could have been better. The server was friendly and accommodating; the interior is a bit stark, but the wall decorations are charming. The beer on tap was delicious and well-chilled and well-poured. Sadly, that was the best part of the meal. The pretzel was warm, but the exterior was soft and squishy. A bit of crunch would be better. The platter was very disappointing. The schnitzels were thin (which is okay) but very dry. Same for the smoked pork chop (kassler/rippchen). The sausage was nicely grilled but the interior had an odd texture. Potato salad was somewhat bland, but zipped up nicely with the horseradish sauce served in the side. The sauerkraut had no flavor or the expected tang. The red cabbage flavor was good but over cooked. Stop in for a beer if you're in this end of the street.

My wife and I have come to Leavenworth every December for the six years we have been together. Even before we were married, we spent our first Christmas together in this charming town, and the very first place we ever dined in town was (King) Ludwig's. Drawn in by the savory chickens spinning on their Ferris wheel-esque rotisserie in the window out front, we knew back then that we were in for good things. And we were! So it was surprising, even to us, that in the six years since that first visit, we realized that we had never returned to Ludwig's...and neither of us could really say why. Perhaps it was the overwhelming number of other dining options in town, and our adventurous desire to see (and taste) them all. Even so, that was doing Ludwig's a disservice. It was one of our first, and most charming memories of Leavenworth, and one worth revisiting. It wasn't until we were looking for some spaetzle for lunch (moderately difficult to find in a German-town, although that is mostly due to the oppressive, overwhelming crowds of people clogging up all the restaurants). We inquired first at Andreas Keller, but their wait list was absurd. Baren Haus told us that they no longer served it; however, they recommended Ludwig's, just down the way. Immediately, both of us realized how long we had been neglecting this place, and happily made out way back to our "first date" spot in Leavenworth. Despite a relatively large and cumbersome party (2 adults, 2 kids, and a toddler in a stroller), we were seated immediately, despite it being a (late) lunch hour. My wife locked in on the chicken schnitzel plate, slathered in mushroom gravy, and accompanied by a healthy side of the aforementioned desired spaetzle, as well as the required braised red cabbage. Let me tell you, friends: I am not a fan of mushrooms. But that gravy, paired with the beautifully breaded breast of chicken schnitzel and savory spaetzle, is just heavenly. It was the perfect pairing of everything we love about German cuisine, and the necessary reminder of what we had been UN-necessarily depriving ourselves for the last six years...a mistake we will not be making again, on future visits! Ludwig's is also one of the few restaurants in town that can handle a large crowd (the indoor beer garden at the back can accommodate 100+ people by itself) and, even rarer, one of the few restaurants to take reservations online, which is a HUGE plus, especially during the holiday surge. Andreas Keller doesn't (wait list only, sometimes 3+ hours). Munchen Haus doesn't either (obviously), and the line is often dozens long. Baren Haus is also waitlist only, and despite turning tables relatively quick, and also being delicious (the kohl rouladen is to die for!), it is lacking certain staples (such as spaetzle!), which is a bit of a tragedy. Despite its prominent position on Front Street, Ludwig's somehow manages to blend into the background, and can easily be overlooked...making it the unsung underdog of the Leavenworth dining scene...but it shouldn't be. So if you're in the mood for some genuine German grub, look for the rotisserie chickens rotating in the glowing window...like the Bat Signal for Bavarian banqueting! You won't regret it!

The food and service was good, but the ambiance was waaaaay off. On a Friday night at Ludwig's in Leavenworth, we did NOT expect the piped in and truly horrible Muzak. Breathy, pseudo-jazz elevatorized covers of Cold Play, Fleetwood Mac and worse.. "Kiss Me"? "I Shot the Sheriff"? It was bizarre - what was the manager thinking?! Not a great backdrop to a kitschy Bavarian-themed restaurant with decent food. Normally would barely have noticed such a thing, but it was really odd and difficult to ignore. The sausages and goulash were fantastic, but shouldn't have had to fight with such a horrible musical mismatch!

Stopped by during Oktoberfest to try some German food and soak up the atmosphere. Service was friendly, though a bit slow, which was understandable given the crowds. The food itself wasn't bad, just pretty bland and lacking in flavor--nothing stood out. Fun spot for the vibe, but I probably wouldn't eat here again.

This place is so cute! The only thing I don't understand is the poor woman was our hostess, waitress and bartender! I asked her if she was also cooking our food and fortunately for her she wasn't. Despite her running doing three jobs the service was super attentive and friendly. Food was delicious! Get the onion rings!

We went during the peak holiday season. Not too long of a wait to get a table. The interior is very cozy, both upstairs and downstairs. Super casual- we sat at a picnic table lol! We ordered the onion rings, pretzel, and cordon blue chicken schnitzel plate. Onion rings were tasty and crispy. The pretzel is a must get- very soft and fresh. I was a little underwhelmed by the chicken schnitzel, not much flavor. The sides came with pickled cabbage and potatoes. Potatoes were tasty! Service was quick and friendly. Overall good place to eat but would probably try other places when back in Leavenworth.

We decided to go here for the day and came across the restaurant. We weren't a fan of the food actually, and it was pretty pricey for what it was. I loved the feeling for the restaurant itself. The chicken was really dry, the food was cold. The service was okay.

Excellent food, we had such great service. So much attention to detail, everything was delicious, great portions, comfy seating. Definitely a regular stop for us every year from now on!

We came here for a late lunch and they weren't too busy. Our waitress was super nice. I tried the cider and did the fish and chips. It was all really good! For dessert, we all split the apple strudel which was also yummy!

Wow! I had the Jagerschnitzel and hubby had the sauerbraten (braised beef in gravy) both with red cabbage and spaetzel. It was AMAZING! Our son had the chicken nuggets and fries and at 7 he NEVER finishes all his food but he ate the entire basket. We ordered a flight of beer and then a pitcher. Great variety of brews. Service was superb and food came fast even though they were slammed on Memorial Day weekend. They welcomed our pooch at their patio seating outside and brought her water. Thank you Bryson for the best service!Highly recommend this place.

The giant pretzel is so warm and soft and great with the mustards and beer cheese. Best pretzel I ever had. Hubby and I shared it. We then shared a platter for 2 of a variety of different meats with potato salad and red cabbage. We liked everything! We can't wait to go back and we'll probably go back and order the same thing because we're still talking about it

Aloha, when in Leavenworth, there are 2 German-themed restaurants that stand out per the locals at our hotel. Ludwig's being the most authentic and broad menu. We enjoyed our lunch here especially since it was air-conditioned in the dining room. When the weather is nice out, there's also out-door dinning right on the closed main street in Leavenworth. Such a quaint cute town and restaurant. Great server help us decide which dishes to try. Enjoy!

This is the second time going, and both times, it was delicious German food. We had a few friends, and we got to try a variety of plates to taste. The wait staff were kind. We sat in the back area, aka Biergarten (beer garden). Restroom towards front of restaurant and also located on the biergarten area. Seating was on wooden benches. Picnic style decor. Variety of beer, hard liquor, and warm drinks. Some extras: 1. The area has some uneven flooring. 2. Expect to wait, and we were not able to reserve in advance. 5 star is due to overall, the food was great, location center of town and the ambiance made the trip worth taking.

IIRC currywurst should not have curry powder dumped on it

Get your base bratwurst, pick your add ons and choose your condiment. Big bob bratwurst is a must get. Really delicious with good flavors and perfectly cooked. There's 20 sauces and over 10 kinds of mustards to try from. We loved the garlic aioli and smoky garlic/onion mustards! But so hard to pick a favorite out of them. Must add on the apple cider sauerkraut and relish. Great ipa selection as well. Good vibes and plenty of seating inside and outside the restaurant.

Since we had to make the almost 6 hour trek home the next day, we went for an early dinner and were the first party in. Service was kind and quick! Everyone was super friendly. Only thing is with it being just freshly opened for the day, it felt a bit like we were intruding on the staffs prep time - no one made us feel that way there was just a lot of work and chatter going on. I assume with the name Mozart usually there's some form of music (I would assume classical) that maybe just hadn't been turned on yet. But no bother. Food was fantastic. The fondue is not to be missed - the sausage and broccolini were clear standouts with this dish. I got the hunters schnitzel which was great but my husband got the Käsespätzle which is one of the absolute best things I have eaten out in a really long time. Like an oniony cheesy spatzle Mac and cheese. YUM. Should we be back in the area, we would go back again for sure!

Unfortunately, the restaurant was already running about 45 minutes behind and no one communicated this to the long line of guests standing on a steep staircase waiting to be seated. Given that the evening was reservation-only, it was surprising how unprepared they seemed for the exact number of people they knew were coming. The space itself is quaint and charming, and the food was reasonably tasty once it arrived. But the service left a lot to be desired. The hostess was uncommunicative and initially tried to seat us at a shared table in the middle of heavy foot traffic. When we asked about an empty private table that had been sitting open the entire time we were waiting, we were told it was for "VIP" guests. Our server seemed overwhelmed and not very attentive. She had to ask for and repeat our orders multiple times, still brought the wrong dish to one person, and served three meals while the fourth person in our party waited another 10-15 minutes for theirs. When we asked about the delay, it felt like we were inconveniencing them. Overall, it was disappointing. The restaurant has a lot of charm and potential, but the lack of communication, organization, and basic hospitality made for a frustrating experience--especially on a night that was clearly planned around reservations.

We were especially excited to order the Kohl Roulade (stuffed cabbage), since we had tried it at another nearby spot earlier on our trip and absolutely loved it. When we arrived, there was about a 15-minute wait for booths and tables, but we were seated right away at the high tops. We were already starving and had plans to catch the fireworks afterward, so that worked perfectly for us. Shortly after sitting down, we were served warm bread with both regular butter and garlic butter. The garlic butter paired with the warm, soft bread was to die for, honestly one of the highlights of the meal. We placed our order for the Kohl Roulade, and it came out in about 10 minutes. As soon as it arrived, I cut into the roll, made sure to smother it in the marinara sauce, and took my first bite...then my second...and my third. Overall, it was just okay. The meat wasn't quite as flavorful as what we had experienced elsewhere, which was a bit disappointing given how high our expectations were. The plate also came with red cabbage, sauerkraut, and fried potatoes. The red cabbage and potatoes were tasty, but the sauerkraut wasn't really for me though that's more of a personal preference since I'm not a big sauerkraut fan. We really wanted to love this dish, but it just didn't quite live up to what we were hoping for. That said, you can't win them all, right? The service was good and the staff were very friendly, which we appreciated. Would I come back? Maybe, but I'd definitely try a different dish next time.
