The food was excellent. Food was cooked as expected with the steak being perfectly cooked at a medium as I requested. Prices are reasonable for what you get at a more expensive restaurant. Service was quick and fast, waiters being very friendly and constantly coming back to check on us and get refills without question from us. The atmosphere was very calming and pleasant with a great country environment that will make anyone feel at home.

This one is a tough review for me (I would give 2 1/2 stars). I love to find and support local businesses and really had high expectations for The Old Mill. It is a long standing staple in Dothan, Alabama. We were in town for Christmas and got here a day early so we wanted to have a nice meal. We got there at an average time for a Saturday night. We weren't really greeted but since there were only two of us we were sat immediately. There isn't any ambiance and not sure that anything has been updated since 1986. There is a full bar behind the hostess station where you can get drinks while you wait. Our server was the highlight of the evening as she was so pleasant and provided lots of "southern hospitality". She got our drinks quickly and we ordered the Cowboy Bites appetizer. It is a fried combination of sweet corn, jalapeño, cream cheese, and bacon. These were delicious! It had just the right amount of pepper flavor and I could clearly taste all four ingredients. They do ask if you would like some rolls which are homemade yeast rolls. These were ok. The tops were nice and soft but the bottoms were a bit overdone. For our entrees I ordered the 10oz ribeye and crab cake combo with a baked potato and steamed broccoli. My wife ordered the grilled chicken with the same sides. The chicken is topped with Swiss and sautéed mushrooms and onions. She opted for the onions only. Unfortunately, the entrees is where things went downhill. The chicken was not very well seasoned and although cooked well to maintain the moisture it just didn't have much flavor. The sautéed onions were mostly the skin of the onion so that was disappointing. Both of our steamed broccoli sides were steamed well but on the cooler side of lukewarm. My crab cake had some good flavor but the lemon butter sauce was much too salty which was surprising as that shouldn't be the case. My steak was also lukewarm at best although I will give credit that it was cooked a perfect medium and had nice flavor. Amazingly, the best parts of our meals were the cheapest parts which were the baked potatoes. Both were hot and fresh. Our food came out pretty quickly which made the lack of hot / fresh temp more disappointing. Our server did thank us for coming in, welcomed us back and wished us a Merry Christmas. In the end, the food quality definitely did not match the price.

I was in town for a network meeting and wanted local fare and this Old Mill fit the bill for what i wanted. Amber was my server and she kept my water glass full. I ordered the 5oz cheeseburger and it was more than enough. The burger was juicy, the bun was toasted and a separate plate of toppings was provided so i could build my burger. I also had the bread pudding and it was very good. If I had one critique, it may be that the bread wasn't as soft as I like it, but the vanilla ice cream made up for it. If you want to support a local restaurant in Dothan, who makes great burgers, Old Mill is worthy of your money. One addition to this review, Amber brought me a to go water without me even asking and she used my first name when saying goodbye. This is a good, local, restaurant who knows how to treat a customer.

Service was great. Steak was horrible. It was cooked properly but was a really horrible tasting piece of meat.

We noticed the place due to the overwhelming attendance by the locals. I mean the parking lot was full when we drove by. Upon getting settled in at Dothan we drove the 10 mins back north on 231. In I the dark, it was hard to figure out how to get to the restaurant. Some well placed solar lighting would have been nice. They had a nice salad bar. Servers would construct the salad to your specifications. If you wanted something that they didn't think should be in the same bowl with your salad. They would put it in a separate bowl. You could go back as many times as you wished. I kind of liked the cleanliness of their method. The salad bar was not a premium side. You were allowed two sides and a salad bar counted as one. My other side was the baked sweet potato. I made the mistake of letting my wife have a bite. I never got it back. I got the ribeye steak. Medium. It was cooked to perfection and was tasty and juicy. Is was one of a few times I have eaten a steak without steak sauce. My dear wife had the filet. Hers was more tender but both thought the ribeye won on the char flavor They have a resident baker. Oh, one piece is plenty large enough to share with two people. Decorated in a rustic western motif. It was clean and service oriented.

Our server was great but harried as she had to wait tables on both sides of the restaurant. We started with the trout dip, which was delicious. There was a long delay between appetizer and entrees, but again, busy! I had the snapper Ponchatrain, which was honestly one of the best fish preparations I've ever had! Blackened snapper on a bed of delicious grits with a topping of crab and an amazing sauce made for a spectacularly yummy dish. My husband had a disappointing experience with the country fried steak. The steak was overdone and the breading didn't stick to the steak. Just not at all satisfying. We will be back but will choose our entrees more carefully next time. The food is top notch, but pay careful attention to what you order and you'll be happy with your meal!

We made reservations online and I would highly recommend you do especially for the weekend nights. Their bar area is first come first serve, but we've definitely been there when it is completely full so I wouldn't count on it as a backup plan. It is all street parking in this area and on a busy night. It can be hard to find parking unless you go down a block or two. We started with the okra, french fries and they were delicious! They come with a Sriracha aïoli which gives a little bit of heat, but it balances nicely with these perfectly fried okra fries. It also feels like there's cheese inside of the fried so you get kind of those gooey us along with the okra. Important to note no sliminess! My husband got the steak frites. The steak was definitely thinner than we recall having in the past, but it was perfectly cooked and the seasoning was great. The grits were also really delicious as well, although he wished they would've been just a little bit creamier. I opted for the southern fried steak, which comes on a bed of horseradish mashed potatoes. There were a ton of mashed potatoes on that plate and honestly kind of overwhelmed the steak. But the steak was really tender. I love the breading, although there were certain portions where the breading felt, it was almost too much as it was super crunchy. My husband got the KBC old-fashioned. He always asks for a little bit of cherry juice in his cocktail and the first round, It definitely was more cherry juice than it was liquor. The second one he asked him to just bring the cherry juice in a small container so he could control it and it was much better. I had their peach cocktail and it was absolutely delicious. Very easy to drink, but full of flavor with peach and ginger.
