It is with heavy heart and deepest regret to write this as OCC is a mom and pop family run diner that has been a staple in the neighborhood for years. Run by the owners, a husband and wife team. They never quite recovered after the pandemic. While the same unique specials adorn the whiteboard board, it is clear the passion that once drove them has long since fizzled. Time, inflation and a general sense of IDGAF attitude has overtaken the once bubbly and engaging duo who seem to be shackled to a business they no longer love. The place is in need of a thorough cleaning as crumbs cakes in the booth seats and splatters of food dance along the walls. The once sparkling windows now smudged with fingerprints and the corners and perimeters of the floors have noticeably been ignored when and if mopped. The waitstaff has a high turnover rate as every time we have come back new faces are taking orders. Our service yesterday was odd as he had almost his whole meal finished before mine arrived at the table. My sandwich that was once my favorite and our only reason for stopping back from time to time was missing a major ingredient, leaving it dry, incohesive and disappointing. This once three deep wait line on weekends OCC had only a handful of tables occupied at 9:30am on a Saturday. The quality has significantly dropped and understandably it is difficult to run a business in this climate but ultimately when I paying over 30 bucks for breakfast sandwich and beverage there are plenty of other places around who are working hard to keep their regular customers. read more

I've never left a negative review before, but this place was so bad I couldn't stay quiet. The cafe is filthy, outdated, and feels completely unsanitary. Everything from the floors to the dishes looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. Even the bathroom was unusable. The owners Danny and Bridgette were yelling at each other in front of customers, cursing, treating staff badly, and creating a super uncomfortable vibe. The staff looked super miserable and overworked, and based on what I heard and saw, the way they're treated is seriously concerning. The food? Awful. Everything was cold, soggy, and clearly microwaved. We tried the "recommended" items like the biscuits and gravy and sos...huge mistake. Coffee was great and that was about it. Portions were small for the cost and our server did not check on us after receiving our food. One other server came by twice to offer more coffee and a different (third) server dropped off the check. My food was a little warm (eggs and French toast) and my friends was cold(an omelette). I left with mixed feelings because although the food was a pleasant surprise and delicious, my friend, on the other hand, decided to mix business with pleasure. Croydon is a quaint nice but small town near the Delaware River, not on the river, so if your looking for a view the best your going to get are the businesses across the street but it's so worth it. I order the large home fries so I could take some home and rye toast that already had butter melting on it. My friend ordered a combination of eggs over easy, bacon and home fries with toast and he said his was great. The inside reminded me of an old fashion cafe with the checkered flooring, the walls had décor that was easy on the eyes and it was an open kitchen which I loved. The atmosphere was energetic and it was early, around 7am. The staff was upbeat and seemed to be having fun. It's children friendly, cash only though, had to go get money to pay which they let us do. They do only breakfast and lunch, no dinner. It's very inviting and I can't wait to go back again! I give the cafe a five 5 star rating all the way around. Dress casual. I practically live at this place on weekends. Everything is soooo good! Lots of classic diner options, but the specials board always has some amazing kind of twist that is different every weekend. (A recent personal favorite was the breakfast patty melt!) All of the food is good and filling, and they have half options of a lot of the regular menu items for those with smaller appetites. Let me first say this is a quality business. In 2019 my Mom won a gift certificate for Old Croydon Cafe and between commitments and Covid wasn't able to use it. We called and they said they would still honor it. We went this past Sunday and were greeted warmly and restaurant was about 50% full. Quite an extensive offering of breakfast items. My Mom ordered eggs Benedict, my niece an Italian omelet and I ordered eggs. All well prepared well and as ordered. The home fries were excellent. This quaint diner-esque establishment is the kind of place that gives character to a town. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a friendly good morning and lots of local kids paintings alongs the walls. While looking over their extensive breakfast & lunch menu you could hear conversations with other tables who all seemed to be regulars here, and made me slightly jealous that I wasn't a townie too. Thankfully our server treated us with the same pleasant and small town love that she did to everyone else. Now to the food, it was very difficult making a decision between such great plates like their vibrant french toast, a chilli omlette, chipped beef or countless other things. The hubby decided on a ham club which was really yummy, large and came with delicious crispy fries for only $7. I can't pass a good country fried steak or trying some good gravy. Somehow this place is amazing! I mean by the looks of it you'd think you're in for a pedestrian diner breakfast at best. In fact I would never have even stepped foot in here had someone not recommended it to me. Boy was I shocked, the food was tremendous! I can't speak to all the options, but what I had was shockingly amazing. Simple scrambled eggs, home fries, and hot Italian sausage was incredible, also ordered the cream chipped beef just to try it and was probably the best I've ever had. The person I was with had the loaded potatoes which was also fantastic apparently. Maybe Yelp has ruined me. Maybe Yelp gives me unrealistic expectations of some places. After reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews and seeing the near perfect score for this place I was expecting the best brunch of my life. Instead my experience was decidedly average, if not less than average. I understand why locals like this place. It seems the staff knows their regulars very well and the service is good. In fact, there was a problem with my order when it came out that they caught before I did, so props to them. That being said my whole meal did have to be remade, so my fiancé ate his entire meal before I started on mine. By the way, he hated his meal, which was a simple breakfast sandwich. It was very messy and seemed like it has just been slapped together haphazardly; it basically fell apart in his hands. He claimed the roll wasn't very good either. Once I got mine I did enjoy the flavors. I had a Cajun eggs Benedict, and it was nicely spiced as to have a kick to it but not be tear inducing. It was good, but honestly it was not great. I would eat it again, but I'm certainly not going to be craving it in the future. The coffee here is decent, not amazing, just decent. It will need some sugar if you order it. This place is alright. Hidden gem near I-95 north of Phili in croydon. Our family was driving down to Baltimore and was looking for a place for breakfast. Found this place on yelp. Nice casual restaurant. From outside looks are deceptive. Good food great customer service. Ideal portions. Didn't feel like I stuffed myself. Was just enough and didn't waste. I had the Cuban teriyaki omelette w crab Rangoon which was really really delicious. The rest had the El Diablo omelette, Taylor ham, egg and cheese and scrambled eggs and cheddar. If you are like me, and enjoy a small business success story served with whipped cream and strong coffee, the Old Croydon Café is just about as good as it gets. I stopped in for the first time this week and took a stool at the counter. From my vantage point I could look into the kitchen service window and see the heads of the cooks making magic out of eggs and pancake mix. The old joint is on the north end of State Road, which I soon discovered could be used as a detour from Rt. 95, all the way to Center City. Good to know! The place is small, with 7 or 8 stools and an equal number of booths and tables. I sat next to a house painter, lawn mower repair man, and a roofer. The conversation was cordial and full of gallant repartee. The owners worked front and back and kept the dishes coming along with the warm banter. I really liked OCC even before my French Toast Deluxe arrived. This was as downhome as this part of Pennsylvania gets. When my breakfast arrived I beheld an oval plate framing a still life watercolor. The 3 slices of well grilled and caramelized French Toast, topped with Fresh Whipped Cream and Blueberries, Strawberries, and Bananas, and finished with a lazy drizzle of Blueberry Sauce. (See Photo) The toast was hot, the cream cool, and the fruit cold and juicy. The tastes and textures were fun and delicious. It was one of those meals that I did not want to end. Old Croydon Café has definitely made my very short list of favorite breakfast nooks. I will return to explore the menu, and even come back for lunch when possible. My husband and I like nothing better than discovering a new little hole-in-the-wall eatery. In this case, we were directed to the Old Croydon Cafe by our trainer, who also shared the compelling back story for this diner. The owner, like far too many others, found himself unemployed during the recession. He decided to use his break from the workaday world as an opportunity to pursue his dream of restaurant ownership. And he marshaled various resources to gamble on opening the Old Croydon Cafe. It is a gamble that has paid off for numerous happy breakfast and lunch eaters, to be sure. The owner himself mans the kitchen, while the diner is staffed by a very enthusiastic waitstaff. We have enjoyed breakfasts here several times. Standouts are the fluffy pancakes with a homemade maple-butter topping and the generously proportioned breakfast sandwiches. That is not to say that we have ever been disappointed: The owner's TLC translates into perfectly textured omelets and beautifully finished egg dishes. Prices are reasonable and competitive. I think this is definitely one of those "you have to be a regular" places, which is kind of sad because I don't live far away but I'm not ever going back. We walked in, took our seats, and then waited....and waited....and waited. Now I'm a forgiving sort having done my time in food service but I do get rather annoyed when hungry and the place wasn't packed. Our waitress finally came over after a long and rather crude discussion with another table. She took our orders all while continuing with the dirty jokes. I'm far from a prude nut I was now entering HANGRY stage. When our food was delivery half of it was cold! I'm not a send it back guy, I'm a pay the bill and never eat there again guy. I ate what was warm (not hot) left the rest, then went to pay the bill. Even there I had to wait as the two waitresses were arguing about who was working the next day, one girl even calling the boss to complain (all the while ignoring the guy trying to pay his bill) this place is the absolute worst but you can do MUCH better in the area read more

Both inside and out, the Old Croydon Cafe does not look like much. Don't let that fool you. Easy access in and once in, we were greeted and seated right away. The very friendly server took our order promptly and I must say, the food came out just as fast and did not disappoint. I had the deep fried french toast which was not on the menu but showed the server a picture (thanks to Yelp) and it was not a problem for them to make it for me. I had the full stack, 3 slices of bread which was covered with fresh strawberries, bananas, blueberries and whipped cream. I'd like to say i'm a "self proclaimed" french toast addict and the Old Croydon Cafe did not disappoint. They also serve lunch, so next time you are in the area, give it a try. Our pancakes were great , tater tots were seasoned well and our server was really sweet. Plus the place was packed and our food came out in under 15 minutes. Love this place. Let me start by saying that I go to places for the food, not the decor. My wife and I have been going here for about 4 months now. I wanted to really try this place out prior to reviewing. I will tell you that I am hesitant on letting the cat out of the bag on this place, but here you go...... The ambience is as basic as you get here but what it lacks in decor it makes up for in the personality of the wait staff and owners. These people invite you in and make you feel so welcome every time you come in. The food. Oh my god, all I can say is that it's amazing. I love that the breakfast menu allows for so many half orders. This allows me to try new things every time I come here. The blueberry pancakes short stack is awesome and one of my favorites. The Reuben, French toast, chipped beef (SOS), waffles, made to order omelettes and homemade sausage gravy and biscuits are all fantastic. If you want want a fancy, hipster, I only eat kale shakes, style place then please go eat elsewhere as I don't want to see you in here anyway. This place used to be the old Bible Brethren church where I had spent many Sundays & Tuesday nights at Sunday school & Bible club, so the food and people who work here must already be blessed. :) I have never had anything bad here. Back of house really knows what they are doing here. We are talking in house made blue berry source drizzled on your French toast along with whipping cream made quickly and simply on premises. Wonderful garlicky home fries and sausage you'll actually notice bits of fennel seed in sparingly sprinkled throughout. And of course, eggs however you want them, from omelets to eggs benedict. Specials clearly change with what ingredients are profitable and seasonal day to day while prices remain reasonable. This place makes no pretext to be the international house of anything. The business has an idea of itself, its focuses is on the early riser work crowd of the neighborhood and the blue collar lunch rush. The locals are its bread and butter but you'll likely see as many families as sales guys, landscapers or painters there to get a quick bite and get back to work. The wait staff know the clientele, banter on personal matters with them and have, to my experience, have always been all smiles and quick service.
