The heart of Newtown not only in location but in spirit as well. Pat's has been feeding the folks of Newtown for decades. Right on State Street, Pat's feels like grandmas kitchen. Right down to the Correll dinnerware. Open for breakfast/brunch/lunch Pat's has homemade jam and all the breakfast favorites on the menu. Always a tasty quiche on special and other creations of the Cook has concocted that day. You can go every day and not eat the same thing twice. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Pat's is homey and small with two small dining rooms and outdoor patio seating. It fills up quick on the weekends but the tables turn over fairly quickly. We love Pat's Colonial Kitchen - we just found it in the past year and have come back again and again! Really good food, simple & homemade, and super nice family-owned business. Friendly servers. Cute decor! I've tried to cut gluten out of my diet for the most part and there are lots of options, But my fam can still get what they love. I like that they have gluten-free bread, so I can have eggs benedict over GF toast now. My daughter loves the pancakes, cocoa, and french toast. Hubs enjoys the Chorizo Hash. Let me ask a question that haunts me to this day: Why would a breakfast restaurant put tables right next to the bathroom? Like, direct line of sight to the toilet zone. Who sat down at a floor plan meeting and said, "You know what would really enhance someone's French toast experience? The scent of human regret wafting from the restroom every five minutes." I get it -- space is tight. But surely there are better uses for that area than setting up a cozy brunch nook three feet from the place people sprint to after too much coffee and questionable sausage. Every time someone opened that door, a breeze of pure nope rolled through. It was like dining in the splash zone of a port-a-potty. The food was...fine, I think? Hard to tell when your appetite is doing backflips. Eggs and ambiance don't mix when the ambiance is vaguely sewage-scented. I asked the hostess if we could move to another table, but she was too busy playing with her false lashes. If you're going to seat people next to the bathroom, at least throw in a scented candle. I generally like Pat's, but I ordered a tuna sandwich for the first time recently and it had a paltry amount of tuna on it. I've had many tuna sandwiches at area restaurants and this was by far the least amount of tuna I've been served. read more

We found this place on Yelp and decided to try it as we were passing through Newtown. It was cute and charming, and we got a seat on the covered porch right away. I got the Apple and sausage omelette. It was really great even tho it sounds unusual! My fiancée got the chorizo hash breakfast which was basically a deconstructed huevos rancheros. He really liked it. But the real MVP of the meal was the little cup of home made mixed berry jam served with each plate. It was so good, and I didn't see it mentioned on a single review I looked at. Not really sure what happened to Pat's. It used to be such a friendly, family-like vibe. I used to know all of the servers that waited on us and everything was always so clean. Last time I was there, I opened up the syrup and found gnats under the lid. I stayed away from the syrup this time and went after church and our server was so inattentive. She left us sitting there with a pile of dirty plates never checking on us and waiting for our check. The old servers we would have on the weekends were always on top of those sort of things. They also no longer carry whitefish, though it is on the menu. Sorry to say, I will not be returning. read more

If took me a while to figure out what to say about Pat's. This place's service has really gone down hill. I ordered the eggs Benedict and the girl apologized because she had forgotten to put my order in. I had breakfast a second time this month to give them another chance and we had this really abrasive red head that was like a rough Peg Bundy (sorry, best way to describe her) wait on us. She didn't even greet us. She just walked up and said, " something to drink?" Really, what kind of service is that?! I use to LOVE coming here. The vibe is just really off lately. Pretty disappointing when you park in the parking lot to eat and on your way out, you see two of the kitchen workers out back smoking next to a big bucket of potatoes. Is that why the potatoes are so gross? I asked for onions in my home fries and got undercooked potatoes with a big ole pile of RAW ONIONS on them! I guess the cooks are too busy smoking to cook the potatoes! Also, why are the potatoes outside? If I had seen this before I walked in, I would've kept on going! Pat's, do better! The way the owner treats the employees is ridiculous. I came on a busy Sunday and hear her speaking to staff in the kitchen and couldn't have high tailed it out of there fast enough. These prices are OUTRAGEOUS. I can literally make better food at home. The pancakes are okay, but by the time you get a few toppings, they are like $20 for pancakes!!! Did some research before traveling to Newtown for a conference. Pat's just looked homey and the pics of the food looked good. I decided to get up at the normal time so I could get a good breakfast. OMGOODNESS! Mike and Lauren made me feel right at home. Great service and fantastic people. I just had to try the weird sounding omelet... apples, cheese and sausage. The flavor combination was perfect... who would have thunk it. I also wanted to try 1 peanut pancake... I like comparing pancakes at places. It was the most beautiful pancake I have seen and there were WHOLE pecans in it. The strawberries and bananas set it off. I think everyone needs to try Pat's. Pat's is consistent in all the ways you want an eatery to be: In its service, quality, consistency, and cleanliness. The staff is always kind and accomodating, and Judy is a treasure. She always has a menu recommendation to offer or some other engaging small talk throughout the dining experience. I've only ever had breakfast there about three dozen or so times over the years, so cannot speak to the lunch menu, but breakfast is always great. The menu is largely the usual suspects of breakfast items, with only a special or two on any given day, but what they do, they do well. My usual order is a coffee with the applee and sausage omellette (yes, the apple is in/on the eggs), and it is delicious. I never see the bottom of the inside of my coffee cup, and the only time I am waiting for a refill is because the serveers are always making sure it's going to be fresh. The portions are perfect and the pricing is spot on. Sitting outside on the covered porch area on a nice day looking out to State St. is the way to go. There can be long waits on weekends, as even with the expansion of the dining room, people just love Pat's! read more

This is a local breakfast joint that has been around forever and for good reason. The food is great and reasonably priced. The service matches the food. On my most recent visit, I had the Special French Toast with strawberries, blueberries and sliced banana. All fresh. Not compotes. No preservatives. (See photo.) It was fabulous. My son got Eggs Benedict. Also terrific. When we first moved to town decades ago, it was in a tight space - which made for uncomfortable dining and caused long waits. But a few years ago it expanded into an adjacent space. It's easier to get a table and you're not sitting so close to others. I go on a more regular basis and I'm never disappointed. Stopped in for some breakfast my wife and I have been here before but not since they expanded. We noticed they no longer have the homemade jam at the table which we used to love- perhaps they were out of it. The waitress brought us water which were served in colored plastic cups? We noticed that there were cracks around the rim of the cups in the plastic - not very sanitary-- I ordered the eggs Benedict and some pancakes. The eggs Benedict was very good- however one had a very thick cut of ham which would have been delicious but it had large chunks of grizzle/ fat I had to remove. The pancakes could use more vanilla in the batter but were good. My wife got French toast which she enjoyed. I had a freshly brewed cup of Decafe to finish the meal. My first visit to Pat's was a fluke. I was on my way to Snacks by the Pound next door when I discovered it was closed on Mondays. The porch was inviting on a hot day and it was lunchtime. I was seated at a table in the porch, and I looked over the menu. The server said the chicken salad did not have a lot of mayo in response to my question. When she brought me the platter, I could not believe the beautiful ripe fruit and perfectly seasoned and dressed chicken salad! Visiting the area for the afternoon and was looking for a late breakfast spot. Very small colonial vibe in the town and this restaurant definitely follows suit. It's a very small place with a kind and attentive staff. They also sell little jams and knick nacks if you need a cute piece of crap to fill some shelf space in your house. While the space was charming and clean and the servers were welcoming, the food was honestly so so. We all ordered some omelettes with home fries. We also decided to share their special apple walnut French toast. The omelette was good. They were generously sized with a healthy amount of filling. But come on you can't mess up an omelette. The home fries were hot and well seasoned but weren't cooked evenly. Some of the smaller potatoes were burned to a crisp. Also the French toast would have been really good had they cooked the apple topping. The apples were not cooked nearly enough. They still had a crisp bite to them. I will say that the coffee was solid and their homemade fruit jam was really tasty. I would probably come again as it's exactly what I expected for the price. When they couldn't substitute $.50 worth of lettuce over a chunk of potatoes, nor did they, apologize for the hair on the spoon, which clearly wasn't human, they doesn't care about customer satisfaction. While we had off for a few days, we decided to venture to try different restaurants. We saw this restaurant had some good reviews so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, the host/cashier put us at a table right in front of the cash register near the front door. The location was not the best because the cold air hit us every time someone opened the door and it was awkward when the host and a waitress decided to gossip about another waitress right in front of us. We had a 20 minute wait for 2 and were seated in a small corner 2 top. But that's perfect for a breakfast spot. We ordered cinnamon roll - which was 5/5!!!! So so yummy. Buttered and grilled with walnuts on top. Love it! I got two over Easy eggs! Good but you can't mess them up. Ha. I asked for my home fries to be extra crispy they were really just burnt & the portion of HF was so small! Pork roll was fried well and quite good. Not over cooked! Husband got 3 egg omelette. The biggest reason I did 3/5 was the pricing around this. Omelette itself was $6 for the eggs. But then every single topping you wanted was $.50 - cheeses and $1.50-$2 for any veggies or meat! This restaurant is such a gem in the summer! My fiance and I went the other morning and sat in an outside table. Sitting outside in the shade while watching the passerby's on State Street was a really nice experience. (I will say that during the winter the outside seating is obviously not an option and seating can get cramped depending on when you go.) I ordered an omelette (they said they use fresh eggs, not the pre-mixed calorie-laden stuff) with grilled chicken, feta cheese, spinach, and tomatoes, and "toast" of a corn muffin instead of the regular bread. (The corn muffin was the reason we even went to Pat's; I'd been craving one for days.) My fiance ordered Eggs Benedict with a side of bacon. There were specials for the week, as there always are, which is fun. I haven't ordered one yet but it's nice to have the option. Our food came quickly, as it always does. My omelette was great. Everything was spread evenly inside and every bite had deliciousness. I forgot to take a "before" picture, ha, so I'm attaching pictures from the "during" phase for all of our food. My fiance loved his Eggs Benedict. Neither of us cared for the hash browns. I don't remember why we didn't like them but they were definitely not great and went mostly untouched. I asked for the corn muffin toasted and buttered. It wasn't very toasted and came a side of butter (I care 0% about having to spread my own butter, lol, so no big deal on that front). Overall eating the top half of the muffin (more toasted) cured the craving and was good enough. Our waitress was very nice and we were never forgotten even though we were outside. My 5 star review is coming off of probably my best ever Pat's experience. It's probably normally 4 stars for me (mostly due to the cramped seating), but a) I tend to rate a little more generously, b) the summer seating was amazing, and c) next time we go out for breakfast I'll probably actually want to go to Pat's over Turning Point, and I really like Turning Point! They certainly made the most use of a tiny space for a dining room. Tables are very close and my daughter and I could not hear each other talk without raising our voices to compete with the crowd. My daughter loved her bacon, very crispy and rest of our meal was good, just smallest egg portions we have had at a breakfast place.
