First visit...excellent service, interesting atmosphere...healthy portions. I had a potatoe pancake ...it was good, big...but not great. My friend had the schnitzel...with a gravy...it was delightful. I will go back for a more "detailed" review in the not too distant future. *note* Sun City * just off College and east of I75. y GPS had trouble pinpointing this place...pay quick attention when driving...it's in the middle of a strip mall / center which made it difficult to spot...but plenty of parking. Old Castle was a really nice find for me and my wife. We love German food since my wife's dad once owned a German restaurant in Virginia, so we keep an eye out for some good wiener schnitzel, bratwurst, and my favorite- jaeger schnitzel. Since we've relocated to Florida, we have been on the lookout for a place like Old Castle and we will definitely be back. I traveled extensively through Europe for work, and the jaeger schnitzel I had in Germany and Austria was so great, and I am pleased to say that Old Castle's food compares very well to those great restaurants. We were seated immediately upon entering the restaurant, and our server, who was working by herself, hustled the whole evening, but did so with a smile on her face and she recommended some items, and she made the evening very enjoyable. My wife had the wiener schnitzel, and I had the jaeger, and the first thing we can say is the portions are HUGE, just like in Europe. I am a big eater, but I was unable to finish my meal, even though it tasted excellent. The pork was breaded perfectly, crispy outside, moist inside, and the mushroom gravy was great. The spaetzle was delicious as well, and unlike many restaurants, you get plenty of it to enjoy with your main dish. The wiener schnitzel was also excellent, although my wife says she will ask form a side of gravy to dip it in next time. We started off with a medium pretzel, which was delicious. We look forward to coming back again soon, and we're bringing six of our neighbors, who have never tried German food before, but are anxious to try it after hearing our praise for Old Castle. read more

This German-rooted girl absolutely loved the experience. Lots of artifacts on the walls and live music made it extra fun. Thank you to Eric and Polka Palooza! We ordered the Royal Feast for 2, so we could try everything. It was a ton of food and everything was delicious. My favorite things were the roast pork, spatzel, red cabbage and kraut. The bread dumpling was interesting. My family makes them with bread, ground potatoes and onions, which we call spotzens. Our server Delayne was great and she let us try the mushroom sauce, which is excellent on the spatzel. The dinner also came with an apple strudel, which was served warm on a bed of custard. Tried Old Castle Restaurant yesterday and our family loved it! We went shortly after it opened and it wasn't busy yet but had fun music playing. We shared the pretzel appetizer and the schnitzel & dips. The medium pretzel was good for the 4 of us. The pretzel tasted freshly baked and the beer cheese was delicious. Thr schnitzel & dips were also great and we loved the honey mustard and orange garlic sauces. I got the chicken cordon Bleu which was a generous portion and frankly amazing. I paired it with the cheese spatzle which was like mac and cheese, and I don't usually like cabbage but the red apple cabbage was good! My husband declared the chicken schnitzel and French fries his favorite meal! I wish we had room for dessert because I'm sure it's wonderful too based on everything else we tried. This is my favorite place in Sun City Center. Quality food. Thirst quenching cold beer and superb service! Kat took care of me at the bar. She was awesome! The food is awesome, loved everything we got. The problem is service during a holiday. On Father's Day we waited 45 minutes, no problem as we expected it to be busy. When we got a table, High top, also no problem, though I did notice there were other tables that still had dirty dishes still on them, with a number of people waiting outside for a table. The waitress came and took our drink order, 15 minutes later came back with drinks and asked if we wanted an appetizer. We ordered a pretzel. 15 minutes later pretzel came back and we ordered our meal. I asked for some napkins and she said, "Sure". As we're waiting for meal, we finish our drinks, but no one returns. Finally my wife got up and went to the bar to get more drinks. We now waited another hour for the meal to come out. Waitress came once and got another drink order, but never got any napkins. Meal come , no silverware to eat and she said "Ah OK". We finished meal then waited for check 10 minutes, paid and it took us over 3 hours at lunch time. PS- When we left the those table still had dirty dishes and as we walked out people were waiting for a table. What is sad, is that the food is awesome, but on holidays, the place in grossly understaffed and this wasn't rush hour as we got there at 2:20 and walked out at 5:10. read more

Tucked away in a little strip mall next to Beals... is this little place, a rather authentic recreation of a German restaurant. There was some live music that was good but way too loud for the space, making conversation at the table difficult. Service was terrible - go with tons of patience because they are super slow to acknowledge you, take your order and to serve you. The were understaffed but it was hard to get a server's attention. Another great German meal! I recently learned that Old Castle was serving these Sauerkraut balls with beer cheese and Chicken Schnitzel with a spicy dragons breath sauce and again they didn't disappoint. We had a chance to speak to one of the kitchen staff who is very passionate about the details and ask about her favorites and are now looking forward to trying some beef rolls and goulash soup next time we visit. I also like that they have Hofbrau mini kegs and German fashion wear available for purchase. Highly Recommended! I plan to return again and again to try new things from the menu. read more

Great atmosphere. Walked in and they had live entertainment (they have it on selected days. It isn't specify which days). Got seated fairly quick. Staff is are nice and friendly. Our waitress checked in on us and refilled our drinks often. Everything is made to order, so we came prepared to wait. My husband enjoyed the Scheiterhaufen/the Stake (3 bratwurst). Will return for beer only. The decor is on the busy side. We walked in 10 minutes past their opening, and everyone seems asleep. As soon as we sat down, power went out in the area... and was restored 10 minutes later. 34oz beer is fresh and yummy, with robust head - not the artificial turf (per Dennis miller when he commented on a NFL's owner's hair in 2000). It reminds me of the beer gardens in Germany (female servers hold up 6 or 8 glasses...) and one in New York's Central Park. No pork knuckle offered on the menus. Food is mediocre. My lamb is dry. The part isn't covered by the gravy looks aged. String beans are mushy and sour. Potato is tasty. The goulash is ok. read more

We came by after a wedding venue tour. We started with a Sangria, Havket Pechora Oktoberfest and Giant Pretzel. The starters were all very good. We also ordered Schnitzel a la papa, Cordon Bleu, Pancakes Berlin and Hunters Schnitzel and extra potato salad. The pancakes were good the schnitzel was very dry and a bit over cooked. Update: I have been to Old Castle several times with different friends. In my previous review I spoke highly of the ambiance, food and wonderful service. Two of those things are unchanged. But... Unfortunately the food this time wasn't up to par. The mushroom gravy tasted off as if it hadn't cooked properly and was thicker (not in a good way) as if it had sat in a pot too long from the day before. It had a hint of uncooked flour to it. The veal was overcooked, and tough with more batter than previous times I've had it and less actual meat. I have introduced many friends in the past to this restaurant and I almost always get the Jager Shniztel and this time I also recommended it to my guest who was eating it for the first time. She too was very disappointed. The only thing that saved the meal was the delicious pecan pie. I believe that consistency is crucial in evaluating a restaurant. You don't want to have to say sometimes the food is great and sometimes it's not to friends when deciding where to eat. I will give it one more chance and hope they do better. read more

To those saying the food is bland... y'all this is German cuisine. Try to remember that. Came here with the bf and pressured him into sharing a sampler so that we could try a bunch of dishes. We both loved the sausages, with a lovely snap, and the sauerkrauts. The schnitzel was also fun to eat like chicken tenders. All washed down with beer. However, I don't recommend the apple streudel because it lacked filling and was oddly chewy. We also got saukraut balls, which were super addictive. read more

The food is good but there were some things done a little different. Had white sausage the first visit and chose not to do so again. They didn't serve it in the hot water it normally does and because of that the sausage casing was to hard to remove easily. On my second visit I got the pork shank with bread dumplings. Loved the shank , the sauerkraut but wished they gave actually dumplings. They sliced ours into slices. But over all the food and live music they play on select nights is always great. My husband and kids love the schnitzels. When in the area we always plan to stop in again. We haven't had a bad experience yet read more

We came in for Mother's Day, 5 employees looked at us before finally someone seated us.....we enjoyed the atmosphere & the waitress was awesome, just above & beyond good.....the pretzels were good, my sons fish was very good, the jaegersnitzel was delish but the gravy had a burnt smokey taste that no one all day commented about, staff checked & it was burnt, the spaetzle had no flavor at all & since we drove from Valrico to try it I doubt we will go back, very sad that the food wasn't better quality or had that old German flavor/charm read more
