Absolutely disgusting! I've had better German food out in the field while training in Germany from the mobile "Roach Coach" that was operated by a local and found our training site! The staff was polite but the schnitzel was way too thin, over cooked to the point it was hard to cut and the frozen undercooked crinkle fries were soggy! 9 years in Germany I have never encountered such bad food! I really had high hopes for this restaurant, as I do all German restaurants. Unfortunately for me this fell flat from tasting authentic German. I had the Currywurst which I found to be a bit overpowering with the curry seasoning as well as overall flavor. The potato pancakes fell short of average. My companion had Chicken schnitzel which was actually not bad. One final note on the meals, German Potato Salad has always been served warm to me, even when I make it. Here it is cold and tastes to close to the American version. The prices also seemed to be on the higher end for comparable food elsewhere. Service was good and the place was nice and clean. I served in Berlin back in 82-84 and many of my brothers recommended this place for the currywurst and doners. Both were good, not quite the same, but maybe I have romanticized my time there and the street food. Staff was wonderful and a great selection of German beers. read more

this is a hidden gem that I honestly wanted to keep secret I felt transported. all of the food here was fabulous! super creamy but still chunky, super flavorful potato salad, a mushroom gravy I'm still thinking about, breading seasoned to the 9s and succcculent meat. Came here for lunch as soon as they opened and it did not disappoint! I use to eat doner all the time growing up so I was excited to try this place. As soon as I entered the store I was greeted by friendly staff. The atmosphere gave me a very traditional chill bar type of vibe. Ordering your food was very simple and fast. I got the doner kebab sandwich. They ask you what kind of meat you want with it and what kind of sauce. I got the beef and lamb meat with tzaziki sauce. First thing I noticed was how fresh the bread tasted. It was also incredibly light. It had a decent amount of vegetables in it such as tomatoes, onions and lettuce. The only thing missing was the french fries but you can order them on the side. Overall this place was amazing! Definitely recommend trying their food! read more

Great place for lunch or a chill dinner. It's a relatively fast serving restaurant. Nothing too fancy. I think the real treasure here is that they have good authentic German beer served in authentic glassware and that they hand make their pretzela. They put a lot of heart into their food and it shows. It's not all super fantastic but it's good for what you're paying. It's definitely worth checking out. read more

We used to love this place. Tonight we were there with a group of 16. They knew in advance we were coming. It took close to an hour to place our orders so we ordered the beer and food at the same time. After close to another hour some of the food had arrived. Some of the wine. Some of us never got their food. Some never got the beer but it was still on our check. When I told the waitress we never got the beer she expressed surprise even though it was clear that there were no beer stein's on the table. We never did get a corrected bill so we just left the cash on the table. What is unforgivable is that the owner did not help out the clearly overwhelmed waitress and never came to our table to apologize or explain anything. Stopped in for a casual dinner and so my husband could try something different. I've been getting him to expand his horizons when it comes to food, and this place was a definite winner for him. He went with the doener wrap, and while he usually goes for chicken--he actually got the beef/lamb mixture! He added tzatziki sauce and said the bread was amazing. He ate every bite of that huge thing! Next up, I'm a sucker for sauerbraten and had to try it. Perhaps I should have gone with the doener since that's this places main attraction. The sauerbraten could have been more tender for sure. And while the flavor was good and I overall enjoyed it, I've definitely had much better sauerbraten before. I will try something else next time. But that german potato salad!....yes, please! Oh, and we shared a liter of one of their strongest beers and it was delicious. It was a bit warm inside--and I think someone else mentioned the same issue--so I don't know if they just don't have good AC or what. I definitely don't want to freeze while eating dinner, but it could have been literally just 2 degrees cooler in there. We arrived around 5pm on a Tuesday, and it was pretty quiet. I've driven by this place on Route 19 in St. Pete for years and finally decided to stop in. The German street food, Doener, is a signature dish so I thought I'd try it. The lamb and beef meat is like a gyro. I had the salad dish, but after talking to the chef, George, the bread they use for the sandwich is a must try on my return. It's a small restaurant that does a lot of self preparation. Their selection of German beers on tap is a must try. The full menu has all the key German dishes you'd be looking for. Disappointing... I was very excited when I did a Google search for German restaurants and found Berlin's Doener. I will say that in true German tradition, there were many beer choices and they were very good. Unfortunately, that's where it ended. I ordered what they called currywurst, but it was unlike any currywurst I've ever had. The "curry" catsup/sauce tasted like and had the consistency of ragu spaghetti sauce. The bratwurst which is normally crispy seemed as if it had been boiled. We also has the schnitzel which was horrible, but lacked much flavor. I grew up in Germany and love döner, I've been missing them for years now and it is really hard to find them in the states. This döner was delicious and it made me feel like I was back home. It was fresh the bread was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside the meat was delicious and the spicy sauce and Kräuter sauce mix was amazing. The man working behind the counter and me talked in German which made me feel even more at home. I had me a Radler beer and it was perfect, my wife and I where so full but couldn't stop eating until the last bite, truly delicious. In the good weather, you may need to come early if you want to sit outside. The restaurant serve German food and gyro. Interesting. The chef can handle two types of food. We got the Jagerschnitzel. It is breaded pounded pork gravy with mushroom and bacon. The side is potatoes salad. This dish is good when you are hungry. Love the coating flavor on the pork. We also get the Doener Bowl. It is shave lamb with rice and one special sauce. This dish we added a knockwurst with sauerkraut and falafel, the wurst is good and brown finish outwardly. Falafel also tasty. This place is unique. It serves, German food, beer, middle eastern doner all under one roof. I had the beef doner bowl. The doner meat was good without the strong lamb sense. I asked for a side of curry sauce. It was different than any curry sauce I have ever had before- tense and tasty. The falafel was a big ball , a bit of vinegary in it which I was not used to. The Kase Krainer sausage was good- lay in a bed of sour cabbage and nicely grilled. The pork schnitzel with potato salad was also delicious. It was Sunday lunchtime. They got good business- indoor and outdoor seating were almost full, plus the take out ordering. There was only one waitress and she was overwhelming. The service would get better if they have more help. I like their food, pricing and parking is a piece of cake. I will eat here again when I come to St Pete skyway neighborhood. read more

Tucked away in a strip mall next to IHOP, one can find a German/Turkish style restaurant with average food. No idea how this got 4.5 stars on Yelp, SMH! The service was great, but my chicken donor salad was average at best. The chicken is dark and a bit dry, not sure how it's prepared, but seemed to be prepped days before it was served. The salad was supposed to include cabbage per the menu description, but didn't. Ordered a side of cabbage which was the best thing I tried. They were out of Spetzel and out of Hunters gravy. Coffee is made from a Keurig, no a Turkish coffee or authentic homemade version. Also a cleaning bottle with chemicals was next to the Keurig and the drink machine in open view. The sauce is made with store bought thousand island dressing, tastes like some paprika or hot sauce was added. Meh. The condition of the restaurant is poor, tears in our booth, a dead gnat on our wall. No A/C was running on a 90 degree day. I have no idea why I drove out my way to come here, please read this first before seeing the 4.5 stars on Yelp. read more

I really want to give BD four (4) stars for the sauerbraten, cabbage and potato salad my friend had; the sauerbraten was so tender and delicious. Legit german potato salad & warm purple cabbage. Yet, the reason for the visit was a Berlin-style Doner Kebob! Heard about this place on FB. I hadn't had an actual Doner since my Army days in Berlin (1990s). Now I knew it was going to be tough to compare to the real thang, but soft fresh bread was expected along with tender slices of lamb. Instead, the lamb-mix shaved from the Shawarma grill was hard on the outside - and all of it was in my Doner The bread was crusty and crunchy like toast. So disappointed. I finally made it and it was on not great but ok to good. More like 3.5 stars. I've wanted to grab a bit to eat here since they opened but haven't made down that way until I was passing the restaurant tonight and decided to turn around and try it out. I ordered the salad with chicken and original spicy sauce to go and a stuffed meatball on the side so I could try it.They told me it would take 20 minutes to cook the meatball .That's kind of a long time for one meatball but O decided to dine in since I had a 20 minute wait. The servers was friendly and checked on me a couple of times to see if I needed anything. Also they brought the meatball out to me in about 10 minutes. They salad was ok, the lettuce and cabbage were crisp, the red cabbage very tasty with the cucumbers and onions. The original spicy sauce was tasty . The problems with the salad were the tomatoes and the chicken. The tomatoes were not ripe, the were a pinkish white rather than a red so there wasn't much flavor . As for the chicken, it's hard to distinguish if it was actually chicken, it was brown and dark brown, chewy and some pieces not as chewy. I mixed it in so the chewiness wasn't so noticable. I probably should have went with something more traditional like the doner or brat. Now on to the meatball, it was crispy on the outside and had melted cheese and parsley on the inside. It was served cut in half with brown gravy. I'm pretty sure it was coated in something before it was pan fried. I asked because I'm eating low carbs so no wheat flour or other things like that . The server had no idea if it was coated or with what. So I ate the inside of the meatball. It was good but I prefer a softer meatball. Overall some things were good and some were ok. I haven't had one since my Germany visit, so I had to have one! $7 for a half liter or $13 for a liter. My mom had the house Riesling at $7 a glass. I had a wurst plate that had three types of sausages. 2 were great. One wasn't grinded enough for my taste, but still had a good flavor. My mom had thinly sliced pork that was breaded and fried. We don't have many German food option in st Pete but luckily we have something and it's actually above average. The ambiance and decor feels kind of dull and run down but the spirits of the place are still high. Food was all a solid 7.5/10 but I've got high standards so this may be a lot higher to most people. The schnitzel was quite proper and had the crunch that most crave. Not bad, if they improved the aesthetic of the menus and decor, perhaps this place could become a hotspot. read more

Returned for 2nd visit already! Updated with photos and got to see our wonderful, fave server Liz! Stopped here after a long day of shopping and running errands. I was exhausted and starving, so I opened up Yelp to find something close by and Berlins Doener was literally walking distance from me. I looked at their Yelp Listing and visited their web site and thought it was a great choice. I apologize for my lack of photos! My exhaustion combined with hunger took over and I neglected to take any. I will certainly update on my next visit! Driving up 5 minutes after finding it on Yelp, my first response was a bit hesitant because it's a non descriptive building in a strip mall. I felt a little worried about the authenticity of the German food I was hoping to eat. Well, thankfully, I was wrong! Don't let the storefront fool you, once you walk in there's a selection of German music playing and a nice, casual feel to the place. We were seated immediately and served our drinks quickly. The staff were great and answered all of questions about the menu since this was our first visit. Our server, Liz, was incredibly friendly as were all of the staff we encountered. As you know if you have read some of my reviews, I'm always trying to keep a Keto friendly diet, so both my boyfriend and I went with Doener salads (only $8 each). They were huge and plenty to eat. My boyfriend added feta cheese ($1) and extra meat ($1!) The $1 up charge for each is worth it if you are hungry because his salad was packed with Doener and a nice helping of Feta. I was not at all disappointed with my salad and I didn't add the extras. I had plenty. We loved the salads and had some left to take with us. I also ordered a bowl of Goulash Suppe ($6). I absolutely love Goulash and I wasn't disappointed. While it isn't completely Keto friendly having potatoes, it was delicious! I ate a few potatoes but had plenty even leaving most potatoes in the bowl. If you aren't avoiding carbs, please eat them! The only advice I might have is to add an option for the heat level. While this was delicious and I could definitely taste the heat from the paprika, I would have preferred it just a bit spicier. I certainly understand the owners choice not going too spicy since some folks like no heat or simply can't eat spicy foods. My boyfriend doesn't like anything too spicy and was very pleased with just a little heat. I will definitely order it again! We also decided to share a sausage. I think it might be a requirement at a German restaurant, right?! We actually decided to add it after starting our meal because there is a large crock of the restaurant's homemade mustard sitting on each table. That mustard kept calling to me! I could hear it gently singing my name through the crock, tempting me to eat it! Along with a sausage! I know what some of you are thinking and you should just stop... We couldn't decide which sausage to add. The server explained that the difference between Bratwurst and Knackwurst is that the latter is smoked, and the third choice Käse Krainer has jalapeño and cheese added to the sausage. I was feeling the Krainer but since my boyfriend is always skeptical of food being too spicy, we went with the Knackwurst since we both love smoked foods. It came out a few minutes later on a bed of sauerkraut. Yummy!!! It was delicious with the homemade mustard! We decided on our next visit to get more of the sausage and I'm looking forward to trying the Käse Krainer! You can add a sausage to any meal for just $3.50. They also offer several other traditional German dishes and promote themselves as being German street food. While we didn't partake that night, they have an entire menu of German beer selections and wine as well. The food prices are incredibly reasonable! Our entire meal including an iced tea each was around $30 before a tip. The service was fast, the food was yummy, the restaurant was immaculate (including the ladies restroom), and the staff was very friendly! Everyone including the cooks said warm goodbyes as we were leaving. I told our server how much we enjoyed our meal and she said she would tell the owners. I got the impression that this is a small, local restaurant with very involved owners. I always enjoy supporting local businesses. I only give two stars due to hospitality and amount of food per plate for this Establishment. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated in a German Motive. The prices are way fair for the amounted food but I am German and lived in Berlin for 4 years and the taste of both my dishes were not very good. My husband had the curry wurst with French fries and I had goulash over spaetzle (noodles). I didn't care for the flavor of either dish. The goulash tasted like regular steak and greasy gravy and ended up making me ill with a tummy ache. I don't care to try any thing else here. read more
