Had dinner there this evening. The restaurant looks very charming on the outside and has a very nice beer garten. We requested to sit outside, however it rained so we sat inside. Upon walking in, the impression is very authentic German. We were seated promptly although waitress thought we were with a party of 6 and it was just my husband & I. Seated us and we ordered drinks and shortly thereafter we ordered the food. It arrived quickly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience did not meet our expectations. The potato pancakes lacked flavor and were quite bland. The Wiener schnitzel was especially disappointing -- the veal was very difficult to cut, and the breading fell off almost immediately, causing the dish to fall apart. It did not feel like an authentic German preparation. The rouladen was just ok, lacking flavor also. We were quite surprised, particularly since the owner is from Berlin. It seemed clear that the owner is not the chef or directly involved in the kitchen. My husband is from Germany so we know what authentic German food is. On a positive note, the music was authentic and added a nice touch to the atmosphere, which we did enjoy. read more

Amazing experience! My husband and I went here after my flight to Germany got cancelled and it helped satisfy what I was hoping to get out of that trip! The restaurant's atmosphere is very cozy and well put together with cultural elements evident throughout. It felt like we were in Germany! Our waitress was so helpful and nice. And the food was incredible, highly recommend the goulash soup. Will be one of our date night staples for sure! read more

Edelweiss is a small restaurant with outside seating in their garden. Inside a little dated, accordion music inside playing/singing by one person. I don't know how old this place is, guess 1980s-90s. Familiar with this food so my rating will reflect. Is it German, mostly yes. Schnitzel was ok- good, sauerkraut tended to be less sweet than I have had, portion high , like price. Service good. Seems to me that you may be paying for an older deco and music, followed by service. I may return. Potato pancakes ok, not worth the price. Also, substituting is limited. Menu needs work. read more

They definitely have delicious food, but the place could use a little makeover. Very dark and dingy feeling inside, but it does make you feel like you are dining in someone's home. Good drink selections and the food menu has all your classic German dishes. Recommend the pretzel or potato pancakes to start out, and for your main you have to try the schnitzel with either spaetzle or German potato salad - both are delicious side options! If you had ever been to the old German place on Anna Maria Island (Hamburg Haus I believe it was called), the waitress from there is now here and she always does a great job. Definitely a good spot to grab some delicious German beers and food and catch up with friends! read more

I went to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday and it offered a less than celebratory atmosphere. The space is dark but not in a romantic way. The decor is old and uninspired. The service was friendly but we received an appetizer that wasn't what we ordered. Most importantly, the food was less than ordinary, like a food court version of German food. Cutest beer garden to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Service was very pleasant and quick. I tried some of the hunter snitzchel which was great and I really enjoyed my currywurst. I'd never had it before but I also love a ketchup glaze on meatloaf so I figured I'd like it and I really did. It paired well with the carmaleized onions. But the fries were a little sad and I didn't really like the little dough balls that came with the hunter. read more

Authentic German food. We walked in and everyone was singing a sound of music song. A cool gentleman was playing along and entertained us all night. The staff got us a table right away. Best if you get reservations. The inside looks like a German home and bar. In good weather you can sit outside. Our beer was delicious. I got a large Dunkel dark beer. My wife got a Hefeweizen. I ordered the schnitzel with spaetzel with mushroom gravy. It was crispy large and delicious. My wife got the bratwurst in a blanket with delicious sour kraut . We had so much fun and a good meal. Decided to try this place out. The staff was very nice, service was prompt. We got the sampler platter to share. Lots of stuff....rouladen, sauerbraten, spaetzle, schnitzel, red cabbage and hot potato salad. The red cabbage, spaetzle and potato salad were excellent as was the sauerbraten and rouladen. I don't even know where to start with this review other than this: it's the best German food I've had outside Germany. Sitting on a corner lot in Bradenton, I decided to give this restaurant a try after seeing its high ratings. I am so glad I visited for dinner! This family-run restaurant is amazing. The schnitzels and sausage/brat options are plenty and fantastic. I opted for Nürnberger Platter, which consisted of 4 bratwurst sausages served with sauerkraut and sweet mustard. The sauerkraut was not too vinegary and had a nice taste to it (I think it was the caraway seeds it had in it). Their red cabbage, which I had as a side, was very good too. My dinner companion had the Hunter schnitzel and WOWsers. Perfect seasoning on the breading and the spätzle was very good. Edelweiss has music on certain nights of the week, so call ahead if you'd like live entertainment. Overall, this was a fantastic meal and I'd return in a heartbeat. It has been many years since I was last here. I didn't remember the parking lot being so small and we drove around trying to find somewhere to park and not get towed. I also didn't remember how small the restaurant was, or how loud the accordion player was. Maybe I am just getting old and these things bother me more. The menu was still very nice, typical German foods. I started with the beer cheese soup. The soup had loads of flavor, but was way too salty for my liking. My entree was the sampler platter. Food arrived timely and was hot. The proteins were all very good, each served with their own sauce. I didn't like the red cabbage at all as it was overly sweet. The spaetzle was bland, but at least you could mix them in the gravy. Overall, not my favorite dining experience. read more

In the way of an update, I offer the following: I ordered the Beer Cheese soup as a starter. It was good, but extremely salty. I had the schnitzel sampler the last time and was planning to order it again. Unfortunately, it was not on the menu. I decided to order the Sampler, which includes schnitzel (pork) sauerbraten, and roulade as the proteins. They were set in 3 different types of sauce and included spatzle and red cabbage as the sides. The schnitzel was tender and very good. The sauerbraten was also tender and tasty. The piece of roulade I was given was not rolled and it was fatty and tough. The 3 sauces were very salty. The atmosphere and service is very and the prices are reasonable, especially given the portion sizes. read more

after an hour and a half we got our food. our waitress was nice but we were seated outside and it felt like we were forgotten. Drinks were probably the best part of the meal aside from the dirty lemon. I hate to say it but i would take the hot florida humidity over the stench of the inside and thank god we had a fan outside because it was so hot. read more

In our continual search for new and diverse food options, my husband and I came here for an early dinner one evening and we really enjoyed our meals and the service. We didn't have a reservation, which I would highly recommend as the place is fairly small and seems to get busy at peak times, but they were able to seat us at the bar without any wait. Our server was absolutely hilarious; brusque and direct, she made us smile with her biting commentary while being efficient and attentive during a very busy time. We were also very pleased with our food. To start we ordered the pretzel stand appetizer. The orange garlic dip was amazing and the pretzels were soft and tasty. I got the Kaiser Schnitzel for my meal. It was huge and perfectly fried to a crispy golden brown while still being juicy and tender. My husband ordered the beer cheese soup, which he ate every bit of, and the Two Brautwurst, which he said were very flavorful, well cooked, and authentic. We could not resist the Black Forest Cale for dessert, and boy are we glad we didn't. It was moist with good strong chocolate and cherry flavor. The only drawback is that there is very little parking available; we had to circle a few times and nearly left before someone pulled out and we were able to park. We will definitely be back to Edelweiss in the future, though, for the great food and fun service. read more

This was my third time dining at Edelweiss; third time was not the charm. This time the Sauerbraten was dry with little gravy and the cabbage was very overcooked. The spatzle was decent with a little salt. I brought a piece of apple strudel home for a treat. The strudel was doughy with dry apple filling and served with lemon pudding. I've passed by Edelweiss a lot and always wanted to go try them out. Not a ton of German places in the area, so it's definitely something different. The place is quite small, so I would listen to their website and make a reservation. They are also only open until 8pm for dinner. Parking is also a challenge, it is a small lot and after searching for a bit, some people were leaving and we got to take their spot. When we got there, they had live music (it was a Tuesday night); traditional German accordion music. It was nice, but too loud for us in such a small space, and we wanted to be able to talk to one another. We opted to sit outside, which was a little toasty but not too bad. We were the only ones outside, but the waitress was still attentive to us. We got the stuffed mushrooms for appetizers, which was quite good. Three of us got the Hungarian goulash, two got the sampler. Our party (besides me) was not familiar with German food, so this was new to them. We all agreed that the goulash was too salty. I would also say the red cabbage was too sweet. I would also have liked to see the goulash served with either dumplings or spätzle instead of mashed potatoes. I've spent quite a bit of time in Austria and goulash is one of my favorite Eastern European dishes. I really wanted to like it, but I think the flavoring was a bit too far off. I would try something else if I went again. They have lights outside on the porch, but unfortunately they were not working. Looks like they got waterlogged from recent rain. The sun doesn't go down until late, so this wasn't too big of a deal, and they do have some flood lights near the door. We also had a bit of a problem with bug bites, but we knew that might be a thing while sitting outside in Florida in August. A nice touch from them would be to add some citronella candles/torches outside. But I'm not going to dock them on that. The decrease in stars is mostly because of the entrees being too salty/sweet. One of my favorite restaurants in town, best German food ever. I have build this place up to all my friends and family. However, tonight the treatment from our server Michelle and the Manager was beyond appalling. It was a going away celebration for my son and we had a party of 9, which they accomadated. Our server Michelle dropped our 3 coffee orders off without cream or sugar or spoons and no offer of any. She brought our appetizers without plates,utensils or napkins and never cleared the table. She took our dinner order and disappeared for an hour. we individually had to find here to ask for more beer. After an hour, when my friend asked if she put our food order in she said we are really busy but immediately returned with our food, which was luke warm. Still didn't have utensils or napkins from the beginning. When we asked for utensils we were given a sarcastic response. The food, though cold was absolutely delicious by the way. My friend, who asked to talk to the manager about our experience was treated out right rudely by that man. Never once was there an attempt at an apology from either the server or manager. instead the server tried to blame all the drama on my friend for complaining. Mind you this was a $500 table which would have been much more had we had a server who checked in on us. We were there to celebrate. We were all very understanding people and an apology would have gone a long way. I've been to this restaurant multiple times and never had a single complaint in fact I've raved about it, service included but this was possibly the worst dinning experience I've ever had. For Most of my party it was the first time here and they will never go back. read more

The server Michelle served coffee without cream or sugar, appetizers without utensils or napkins and then ghosted our table of nine with no refills on drinks or reason that over an hour later we had no food. When I asked about our food she reacted with oh no and brought that out, cold, with no utensils or napkins. What she did bring was attitude. When I asked for the manager she said she was it and the who I assume was the owner made matters worse by adding additional insult. The irony is I've been there multiple times and spoke the place up. We will not go back to this restaurant. We found the food lacked flavor, the presentation was terrible and service average . I ordered the goulash that was the special for day and my husband ordered sauerbraten. The red cabbage was served on the plate (not small bowl) and i couldn't tell difference between goulash and cabbage. This is a quaint little restaurant with tons of charm. The service is friendly and we really felt welcome. Everyone joined in to sing happy birthday to the several guests that were celebrating. Atmosphere is smaller and cozier than the gallery photos depict. Went early evening on a Thursday. The little ole man on the accordion and singing/speaking German favorites added to the charm. Waitstaff was attentive and hospitable. Lots of locals from what we could tell. Food was great. Schnitzel was as big as the plate and the sausages were very tasty as well. Sauerkraut didn't seem like store bought, nice savory taste with a hint of sour and sweet. The red cabbage was a little too sour for my liking. All of the sausages were good and the potato salad was the perfect warmth and slight mustard taste. Spatzel was good and beer was nice and cold. The apple strudel was good if you like firmer apples and large raisins. All in all a great little find and the prices are not bad at all for the amount of food. Consider sharing. read more

Last week, a buddy and I decided to check out this German spot in downtown Bradenton, Edelweiss. It had been a while since I had been there, but it was just as good as I had remembered. The restaurant is a small place, maybe 10 tables and a small bar. We arrived and it wasn't too busy, but by the time we left, it was packed. They had live German music while we were there and it was quite enjoyable. We started off with a few appetizers, pork shanks and stuffed mushrooms. Both were very enjoyable. We sampled through some of their German beer selections as well as their wine. They offered a nice mix. For our main dishes, we both decided to go with the sample platter. It consisted of rouladen, sauerbraten, and schnitzel. It also came with a side of sweet & sour red cabbage as well as spaetzle. Everything we had on the sampler platter was tasty. The sauerbraten stood out to me as it was incredibly tender for being such a lean cut. We enjoyed every bite. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit. The food, service, and ambiance were great. We will definitely be back to sample some of the other menu items that caught my eye. Definitely worth checking out if you are close to downtown Bradenton. read more

Today, 2/1/25, this restaurant charged our family for 3 strips of Schnitzel and fries $24 for a kid. Upon inquiring about the surprisingly high prize the server (Megan) became rather upset and not customer friendly at this time. The rest of the meals were between $8-$12 per meal and a kids meal Portion was twice that price. May be while discussing an option for a kids friendly meal be kind enough to mention the prize as to not bring out an outrageous bill. Also it would have been cheaper to purchase a schnitzel meal and add an order of fries or share fries vs this out of nowhere $24 charge for three tiny strips of schnitzel and a handful of fries. Mind blowing how a business can get away with such prize gauging. Will Not recommend this restaurant to any friends nor soccer family passing by Bradenton. Not worth the hassle nor poor customer service with attitude. Very disappointed and I feel bad for I suggested the restaurant as a post soccer game option to my family on our way home. Totally sad and disappointed that our overall experience Was less than satisfactory. read more
