The staff was super nice and efficient but the sandwich was meh At the time I arrived they were already putting the chairs away because they were closing in a few, so I made a rushed decision: The Aspen Buddha (Turkey Swiss Curry Aioli Sunflower Seeds Lettuce Tomatoes Sprouts Banana Peppers Cucumbers). In my mind I was making a "healthy choice" but in reality I felt like I was about to eat a loaf of bread. I thought it seemed silly to pay only $2 less for a half a sandwich so I ordered the whole but then shamefully threw away most of the bread and ate only the innards which were also pretty boring. Even though I'm trying to keep my carb intake in check--I'm fully capable of for example enjoying a whole loaf of challah in one sitting if inspired but this wheat loaf did not inspire those kind of urges. As for the rest of the sandwich, it could have really used more curry aioli or something because I don't think I tasted that at all. If was ever forced to eat this same sandwich again I might ask for a side of vinaigrette, giardiniera, avocado. Something. The people were right: this was a dry sandwich. The reason I was even in Golden is because I wanted to test the feasibility of taking the W line to the Golden government center that is 2 miles from downtown and then riding my bike to have a picnic by Clear Creek. Turns out that yes, this is great with the understanding that the bike ride back to the light rail is way more intense when heading back to Denver. All uphill on my single speed! Without the Aspen Buddha, since it was 95 degrees or so I might have died had I not eaten/rehydrated. I am thankful for that. Also thankful for the life lesson about bringing my own picnic so I only have myself to complain to next time.

I think the main reason I would go to the Eddy is to hang out on their patio, especially when they have live music. It's a good view of golden in the foothills and its probably a great sunset spot. They also have a lot of good nonalcoholic options which we really appreciated - including nonalcoholic wine, which you don't see very often . What more could one want? The menu isn't extensive but is ample, and it's all scratch made. Some items are available all day, paired with brunch items earlier and dinner entrees later. We couldn't resist the goat cheese dip, and it was amazing. Lightly gamey, as might be expected with goat cheese, but softened by greens and chopped walnuts on toast. It was a large serving, and we spooned out every last bit. We each added a half Caesar salad, one with salmon topping sans anchovies (real anchovies!) and the other with Cajun shrimp minus the pickled onions. The dressing was a true, flavorful Caesar, though if you don't like a lot you may want to ask for it to be lightly dressed or on the side. Our server volunteered having the salads chopped, and we accepted. We were both pleased with the results. The salmon was cooked to perfection with a light pink center, and the shrimp were spicy but a perfect blend with the coolness of the salad. I can't omit the peach iced tea, different from any I've had before. I usually avoid sweetened tea (unless I'm in the South, where I find sweet tea irresistible), but our server said they blend 2 c of sugar with 20 lb of peaches to make a near jam and blend it with the tea. That seemed like little enough sugar that I accepted and was glad I did. It truly did taste like a jam-tea blend. It was sweet, though, so if you don't like sweet tea, it may not be your thing. Between the appetizer and the half salads, we were full enough to need little dinner later. Two added bonuses--a takeout charcuterie shack that will custom make beautiful boards from mini to full size (also available on the restaurant menu) and a dedicated outdoor seating area for diners with dogs. This little restaurant in downtown Golden was a gem that rivals any foodie-based restaurant in Boulder or Denver. Chefy menus, fresh local produce--often grown on-site, and wonderful wine and whiskey dinners, bringing the community together, will be greatly missed. We brought countless visitors to Abejas, celebrated birthdays and anniversaries. Their food was both beautiful and delicious, their cocktails inventive and fresh, and their service usually without reproach. We looked forward to seeing the friendly faces when we arrived for our reservations. It seems that it was a popular place in Golden, as often the reservations would be booked, especially on a weekend or holiday evening. Abejas gave us something to be proud of in the Golden restaurant scene. I hope the team can reinvent themselves and Bring back a new celebration-worthy restaurant for the community. Until then, au revoir (or maybe I should say adios, as Abejas is a Spanish name) little bistro.

Everyone can be on their own tab and choose from a variety of food spots, and you can self-serve beer on tap, pre-mixed cocktails on tap, or soda from the fountain. Happy hour prices are great if you stop by at the right time (I believe it's mid-afternoon on weekdays). A pint of Coors was around $2.80, and all the food spots have discounted happy hour items too. We took advantage and ordered the Hurricane chicken wings from Republik of Chicken, which were tasty in an Asian-inspired sauce and great to share for the table. On a previous visit I had the Hurricane spicy chicken sandwich (from the same food stall) which I didn't find spicy, but it was overall quite yummy. This time I ordered a tuna poke bowl from Sushi Sora upstairs, a classic build-your-own poke bowl setup. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the bowl and the tuna, especially since we're in Colorado. It paired quite well with the wings we ordered for the table. Others I've been with have ordered from the BBQ place and the taco place, and had ice cream, and everyone has loved their orders. Overall, great spot with a great vibe. The spectacle here is a rotating showcase of beer, wine, and cocktails on a self-pour tap wall. As you can see from the photos, you identify the drink you want and pour it yourself. How it works: you obtain a swipe card from the register. Like a bar, they open a tab for you after confirming your identity (ID check) and storing your credit card information. You are then issued a Golden Mill charge card that you will swipe at the wall to pour your drinks. Pours are charged by the ounce. The cocktails are reasonably priced, however, unless you're an expert draft pourer you can rack up quite the bill trying to pour draft beer with minimal head. A worker helped me to pour my draft using his own card after my failed attempt. Workers are posted near the wall and maintain a close eye to assist customers which I believe is great customer service to mitigate user errors simply from a Murphy's Law perspective. Like many other food halls I've experienced, this one also has a good selection of food vendors ranging from BBQ, sushi, tacos, ice cream, and chicken. High tables, lounge tables, and standing areas are ample here. The scene is also a good venue for hosting small events. When I visited there was a live band performing downstairs. The customer service was very friendly. Parking nearby was not ideal and there is strict parking enforcement at the lot adjacent to the facility. Overall, a great experience and I will visit again when in the area.
