If you're tired of the usual brunch spots and want something a little different, Ohiru Cafe is such a lovely find. I recently tried their Japanese brunch and really enjoyed it. The portions were very generous, the food was delicious, and the whole experience felt comforting and satisfying. The Tonkatsu Sando was my favorite. The pork cutlet was thick, juicy, and crispy, with a rich sauce that paired perfectly with the soft, fluffy Japanese toast. I also really liked the Hojicha Kuri French Toast. The chestnut purée was not overly sweet, and the hojicha sauce had a nice balanced flavor that made the dish feel indulgent without being too heavy. There were still so many things I wanted to try because the portions were so big. The fried chicken waffles smelled amazing, and the pasta at the next table looked surprisingly good too. I also just found out they serve sake in the evening, and their ochazuke is supposed to be excellent. The service was also very good.. friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made the whole brunch experience even more enjoyable. Together with the cozy and relaxed ambience, it felt like such a nice place to slow down and enjoy a meal. Left here so full I could barely move. Dont be like me and get fooled by their pictures; their portions are massive! Came here for Sunday brunch after 1pm, and joined the waitlist. We had some time to check out Kensington Market while we waited which was nice. Inside was cozy (I wish there was a little bit more natural light inside). Came here as a group of 2 on a weekend at around 11am and was lucky enough to be seated right away! My friend and I got the karaage and waffles and salmon eggs Benny to share. We also got a matcha latte and hojicha latte for our drinks. Out of the two entrees, my favorite was the karaage and waffles. The karaage was big and juicy and the waffles were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. We happened upon Ohiru Cafe and somehow managed to snag one of the last free tables (by the window no less!) The menu was full of intriguing items but I eventually opted for the Chicken Katsu Sando ("Crispy Chicken Cutlet, Scallion Aioli, Cabbage Slaw"), as I've always enjoyed that dish and was interested to see how it would translate to sandwich form. Pretty well, it turns out. Although I can't say it reminded me much of a traditional chicken katsu dish, I quite enjoyed this concoction. The fried chicken, while a little too crispy, was prepared well and the aioli gave it a good amount of flavor. The soft, tasty bread perfectly tied the whole thing together, and the included fries and salad made for a perfect complement. Pretty disappointed by our service experience here today. We were all so excited to try the food and after we got seated we noticed two tables that were seated after us got their drinks before we even placed our order. Once we did place our order our drinks took another 30 minutes while the tables around us got their food. The carbonara was so unbelievably bland. My only gripe was the "cutlet," which turned out to be a ground meat patty rather than an actual cutlet. If I'd known, I probably would've tried one of the other two cutlet options. The matcha drink was decent, and I got to sample the karaage and mushroom pasta--both seemed pretty solid. Our server was awesome! Really nice brunch spot! The food was amazing and the portions were huge. You have to get the katsu sandwich, there was so much chicken. I love that the bread was buttered, the chicken was crispy yet juicy and it came with a bit of a kick form the sauce. The fires were also very well season and had some seaweed flavoring to it which was good. The carbonara udon was also cooked very well, the pork was season nicely. The sauce was really creamy. The drinks were got were also very tasty, we got the Kyoto matcha latte (cold only) and Hojicha latte. The cafe is very very small and they don't allow reservations on the weekends so wait times can be very long. As it is first come first serve, we waited around 40 minutes but the people ahead of us waited an hour before they got seated. Service was pretty good and our food came out quickly. One of the best brunches I've ever had in Toronto. This is a small restaurant so there is a iPad with the waiting list you need to sign up for when you arrive. Keep in mind that each person must order a minimum of one main. The restaurant is very busy on weekends and they don't take reservations on weekends. The menu consists of Japanese fusion breakfast and lunch dishes. We got the chicken and waffles, eggs Benedict, in katsu sando. In summary, every single component of each dish was well seasoned and tasted amazing. Even the fries and salad which were included. Our food came quickly and the servers were pretty attentive. My favourite Japanese brunch spot in Toronto! They have the best bread ever, it's their milk bread with a slight crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. I've gotten their classic breakfast, once with Katsu (pork belly) and the other with bacon, I prefer the regular bacon. I also had their horjicha matcha latte, horjicha is just roast matcha, it tastes great! The ambience is just like a Japanese spot, small and intimate. We had to place our name on the waitlist and it took about 20 mins to get a table. This is a Japanese style breakfast, where I ordered chicken waffles and a hojicha latte. My friend ordered the egg Sando which looks amazing. The meal was exceptional and the service was amazing too. For a very busy restaurant, the quality is incredible. I did order a lactose free latte and noticed later that it definitely wasn't lactose free. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more items on their menu. It's on a popular College street and my cousin and I drove here. We found a parking lot close by because the streets were pretty busy and didn't want to risk getting a ticket or towed. The interior is Japandi - minimal, darling, and beautiful. The staff that was helping us was so sweet! They had great recommendations. I was conflicted on what to get but I ended up getting the chashu eggs benny with a hojicha espresso latte. The hojicha espresso latte resurrected me - it was nutty, warm, and delightful. I love eggs benedict so I really enjoyed this Asian twist on a classic brunch dish. The pork belly was tasteful and I adored the yuzu hollandaise. My cousin got the tamago sando and ube latte. Found this Japanese breakfast place on Yelp and was excited to have the chance to try it when I was running errands in the area. I had the chashu egg benedict, a matcha cappuccino and a complimentary black sesame cheesecake for giving a Google review. Chashu was not as melt in the mouth as I'd like and the hollandaise sauce was just ok. I wouldn't say it elevated the dish. The English muffin was also nothing special. I'd say the smashed potato was the most tasty part of the breakfast dish. The macha tasted pretty good, but it was quite sweet. For me at least if they lessen the sugar content that would make it more enjoyable. I don't think they used crazy high end macha, but I think it's good enough to let the matcha do the talking. The black sesame cheese cake tasted ok. There was a fair amount of black sesame flavour and it's of the New York variety. Since black sesame is quite rich as an ingredient, and after a heavy brunch menu item, it was just too heavy. At a Japanese brunch place and in consideration with their other menu items, Japanese style cheese cakes would be a better pairing. The funny thing about this place is the servers are all Japanese, but the kitchen staff clearly were native Cantonese speakers. It was an okay experience, but the hype for the most part is unwarranted. I suspect their generous free offering in exchange for Google reviews had a lot to do with it. read more

Best chicken/waffles I've ever had. Extremely juicy chicken, with great sauces and waffles. They use a miso syrup which goes perfectly with the dish. I really really love this dish. The Tonkatsu Sando was also very good. It's an absolutely massive sandwich, it's really hard to get a good bite in just cause of the sheer height on it. The nori fries it came with were a tad salty but otherwise was very good flavour. Also got an Oolong tea (4), which was just a tea bag they used but it was still very nice. Newly opened Japanese style brunch cafe with great portions! We came here last Sunday around 11am and it was quite busy with a line up outside. However, you don't need to wait in line and you can write down your name and number to be on waitlist and they will call you once the table is ready. The restaurant cafe is very small inside so expect a wait during peak times. Luckily, if you're a table for 2 then it will move up faster since most tables inside seat 2. Larger groups, they will have to place the tables together. We ordered the Udon Carbonara ($23) and Chasu Eggs Benny ($18.50). The udon carbonara was made with guanciale and topped with pecorino cheese and onsen egg. It was super creamy which I loved and balanced with a side of buttery toast. However, this dish does fill you up if it's your first meal of the day because it can be quite heavy and portions are big for breakfast. The Chasu Eggs Benny was good too! It was made with pork belly, poached eggs, yuzu hollandaise sauce, smashed potatoes and a house salad. I really enjoyed the dressing on the salad as it had a light sesame taste to it! A few weeks ago, I decided to check out this place before blogTO comes through We got there at 11am and it was about a 30min wait for us to get a table, not too bad tbh since the place is rlly tiny and very limited seating. We got the Chicken Katsu Sando, the chicken is juicy and tender, not dry at all! And the crunchy skin was the cherry on top. The bread is nicely toasted, & the fries are kinda like McDonald's fries but with some kind of Japanese seasoning. My friend got the chashu eggs benny, chashu is basically pork belly. Delicious Japanese brunch and in my opinion one of the best brunches in the city. Had the Ohiru classic which was nice. Pork belly cha siu was fantastic and thick. Tonkatsu sando had a thick piece of pork and a nice wasabi spread. Shokupan bread was heavenly. Fries were interestingly seasoned with nori to give it saltiness Udon carbonara and as nice and cream. Rare to find Italian-Japanese fusion. The guanciale was plentiful and sizeable. Service was ok. Friendly. Spartan ambiance. But it works. read more

Came here for Valentines Day brunch to get the free matcha crème brûlée lol. First time here. The food was excellent. BF had the chicken katsu sandwich which was flavourful. The bread was nice and the fries (which are often overlooked) were so, so good! I had the carbonara udon and that was also excellent. The portions here are generous and we ended up taking half of the sandwich home. We're not big eaters, but if you are, you won't leave hungry. Hojicha latte was also delicious. read more
