I must say I LOVE THIS PLACE! I reserved a private seating and room for me and my girl now wife and had a blast. The food was excellent, the service top notch and entertaining as well. The food is great but the service lacked a great deal. We were in early around 6pm but had to wait until 7:40pm to get our cook to cook us our food. The restaurant was slow when we arrived but quickly got packed. We requested the manager and was told no by two waiters (she busy, the other just said I'm not the mgr) we waited 50 mins for our drinks got them at end of our meal. Wanda/Mgr finally came over after hour waiting for her said she go check in shrimp the cook forgot to cook us, we got the shrimp but the mgr never came back to check on us. Came here on New Years Eve and again in March with my girlfriend. The food is soooooo good. I had the scallop and filet mignon meal with rice and noodles. They were cooked perfectly. There's nothing like a over cooked scallop to ruin your meal. So I was very happy. The drinks are good. They give a really good amount of alcohol in them. I hate when you can barely taste the alcohol but here they make sure you get what you pay for. The prices are pretty good. I know if I had got scallops and steak at Benihana that it would have been significantly more money. They also season all of their food. Nothing bland here at all. I giving this rating two stars for one reason, the Schmuck that sat at our table. First and foremost, the food is very good. Typical Hibachi steakhouse, with a variety of salads and Sushi rolls. Filet mignon was tender, and the shrimp very fresh. Our Hibachi Chef was experienced and had a sense of humor, making it an entertaining show of skills. The reason I'm giving it a two star rating was my dining experience at the table. We were a party of five, leaving three seats available. They asked us to move from the center of the grill over to the sides of the grill in order to accommodate three other patrons. Understood, but we were initially comfortable. The other party sitting at the table weren't pleasant, not a big deal because we weren't there to make friends. One of the diners became agitated because he didn't receive his drinks minutes after he placed the order. His obnoxiousness continued throughout the meal, snapping his fingers to the Chef, asking him why it was taking so long to cook the rice. As the Chef cooked the steak, he requested that his steak be cooked separately because he didn't want his steak cooked with the others. Finally he cursed the waiter because they didn't automatically bring him a doggie bag to wrap the scraps he had left over. We ignored the obviously miserable individual, but the icing on the cake was that he proceeded to complain about terrible service, and was given his meal(s) for FREE! My total was just over $200. which I feel should have been reduced for the inconvenience of having to sit with Mr. Magoo celebrating my niece's birthday. But No, I paid, with gratuities, and Mr. Schmuck walked away with not one but three free meals, and a scrap bag. For this, they get a two star rating. read more

This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. And that is saying a lot, as I grew up in New York City, and I have traveled abroad extensively as a producer and a reporter. My family's experience at Ohana was terrible and stomach-turning. I ate at Ohana on April 22nd, 2017, around 2:00pm. We came here by chance, and I regret it so much in no small part because I had just come from the west coast to see my parents, and - it was my mother's birthday. The service was beyond awful. It was sadistic and depressing. Firstly, the waitress kept asking us to repeat what we said. She then kept asking if we wanted a large sake instead of a small. "Small," we had to repeat, "Small." She then questioned my order because I just ordered some sushi rolls. But hell, that's not so terrible, is it? But wait! It gets so much more awful. When the Hibachi Chef came to our table he didn't crack a smile, he looked depressed. As this was my first Hibachi experience, I wondered if this was part of his "shtick". (I also want to add that I did not come to this place looking for a playful Hibachi experience. We ended up at Ohana because there was a wedding party at the restaurant we initially planned to go to). I wasn't looking for a show, just a modicum of friendliness. But 5 minutes later, the chef knocked over 2 plates of sauce and a glass of water all over my parents. My father is 83, and walks with a cane. It's very hard for him to stand up. I helped him stand and - get this - no one came over to help us. My husband and I grabbed napkins to clean up, and 1 young woman just stood by the doorway to the kitchen area and stared blankly, as if she had no soul. And when our waitress finally appeared she stood there. I said, "Can you please help out?" (Water was still dripping from the table). She muttered something unintelligible. I said, "Can you please do something, or at least get a mop or something?". In retrospect, perhaps the waitress was high on dope. I seriously still cannot believe how gross the whole scene was. If someone had videotaped what happened no one would go to Ohana again. It was so maudlin, I had a moment where I wondered if we were being punked. (Also I should add that a few minutes earlier, we saw a Chef at another table fling a spatula on a lady's bag, narrowly missing her body by less than a foot). When our waitress came back to life, she said she would replace our order of calamari, which was drenched. At some point my father mentioned that he ordered something different for him and for my mother. I pointed this out to our waitress and she started saying that this was because it was hard to hear because of the exhaust fan or something! Unreal. As if this all wasn't enough, our chef never cracked a smile. Egg shells got into the eggs that he was stir-frying. And at some point, while cooking, he just pointed at my husband and said, "He love you long time." Then he pointed to my dad and said the same thing to my mother. He said those words in such an uncomfortably weird tone that we all had to laugh. But it wasn't funny, it felt horrible, maudlin, and cruel. I had no appetite. I also felt like I needed to watch out for my son because perhaps this Chef was so angry or disgruntled that he might try to hurt us. When we got our bill, the restaurant merely took off 10%. This is unreal. Please note, that earlier, after I found out the waitress had messed-up our orders, I went and spoke to the manager about it. And I also told him about how the Chef dropped sauce and water all over my parents (he was nowhere to be seen when this happened. I had to go ask someone near the kitchen to find him). You would think the manager would have the decency to take off a discount that meant something, a discount that would pay for - at the very least - dry cleaning. But no, a measly cheap 10%. My guess is that the manager - who wasn't properly managing - didn't want to take off more because then he'd have to explain to his employers all the hell that happened that day. Because my husband wanted to treat my parents to a birthday lunch, and thusly didn't want to make a scene, he didn't say anything about the bill. I was livid. I went to another room to talk to the manager, and I gave him an earful. The waitress joined in and started saying stuff about the exhaust again. The manager then, and only then, started talking money, perhaps because I mentioned that I work as a reporter. But here's the thing - - no amount of refund could compensate for making us all feel so gross. No money will make up for messing up our lunch on my mother's birthday. The owners of this place need to seriously look at the staff who worked at Ohana in the early afternoon of April 22, 2017. Either those kids are doing drugs, or they just don't care. And ultimately the owners of the restaurant are responsible - for hiring this staff. My advice: do not eat at Ohana, for you risk being treated horribly, and then have to pay for that abuse. read more

Have to say I was disappointed. We came for my daughter birthday. When I called to make a reservation they never informed me that they had a one hour time limit for dining in. I wasn't aware of that until they gave me my menu that you can only dine for an hour. So within the hour it included soup and salad the first 30 seconds we sat down and that also included the gentleman cooking in front of us however long that time took and then we ate. We ate for about 15 minutes then offered dessert. They handed me a check exactly one hour on the dot from the time I arrived. The 15% gratuity was also already included. Sorry to say but spending $300 to sit for exactly one hour doesn't seem appealing to me. Sadly I will not be returning. Lesson learned. read more

Went here on November 13th for my sisters birthday. We had a big party about 14 people. I arrived around 745pm as per reservations. They did seat us while waiting for everybody to arrive. It took asking about 6 different servers and 30+ mins before any drink orders were taken just to receive watered down henny and even longer for water to be served, they just kept brushing us off and walking away. Dinner service didn't start until around 9pm despite everybody being present by 830. By the time the chef got to us the grill was way too hot and he had no knob to turn it down. The cooking and service seemed extremely rushed. The fried rice was burned and the noodles were bland. I asked for my steak medium but it was practically well done by the time it was served to my plate. My kids ordered the lobster and it was under cooked. Due to some people having shrimp allergies the seafood was served last. By the time the protein made it to the plate the burnt rice and bland noodles were cold. A friend of mine took me to this place with a few more friends of him, and all I can say is that WE had a blast!!! Even though the waitress/hostess was kind of slow, everything went smooth and fun as soon as the chef arrived. He did a great jod, great food, and a great show to entertain us. We laughed a lot and enjoyed our visit. My friend is on a wheelchair and they didn't have any inconvenient accommodating him and making him comfortable with all of us. So we wanted to see what this was all about. Should have yelped it first. The food was your typical hibachi flare with the entertainment, nothing new or spectacular. However, my husband did notice that the couple on our table were getting bigger portions because they were regulars. After we were done, we waited for almost a half hour and no one came to see if we wanted anything, clear our plates or offer us water or dessert. I finally told my family let's go, we'll pay at the front. Told the Hostess how horrible it was that their staff had forgotten us in the back! She said "the computer was down" and apologized. The server said he was sorry for not going back to let us know. He did offer us the dessert to go, but we refused it because "ice cream" doesn't carry well on an hour and a half drive back home. Very disappointing. In summary If you know the chef you're good Ask if the computer system is up Expect to hear "Ray Barretto's rendition of Happy Birthday" at least 100x through a loud speaker at the end you want to run out of there, ears bleeding. And finally, if you see that there aren't a lot of people waiting to be seated like every other restaurant in City Island---keep going it will NOT be worth the bill. Go to Johnny's Reef, Sammy's Fish Box, or Tony's Pier where the food is cheaper and their "computers" don't shut down! Ever since they opened and re-opened, I like Ohana's. For starters, I love the fact that it is one of the first restaurants as soon as you enter City Island. The wait is never too long. By the time you go to the bar and order your drink, the host is already calling you to be seated. The drinks are amazing! The food is delicious!! It's never a dull moment with the chef. Ranging from the big flame that nearly burn all of your eyebrows lol, to the chef throwing pieces of shrimp to your mouth, to build a heart made of rice for the couples, to the flaming onion volcano. I went in expecting to get the same meal and performance I get at all Japanese steakhouses. I was happy to find out that the food was better seasoned and much tastier than their competitors' food (Edo's in Pelham, Benihanas in Manhattan). The biggest surprise was the fact that they serve the entire shrimp to people. Most Japanese steakhouses cut up the shrimp in half while they're cooking it to make it look like there is more shrimp than there really is. This alone puts Ohana above the rest. I took my Mother and girlfriend out to eat here and we were all pleasantly surprised by the overall taste and quality of the food. That was surprising in itself, because my Mother and girlfriend complain about everything and always seem to find something wrong with their food when we eat out.
