This Hibachi place is amazing! Ambiance - 5 stars. The inside of the restaurant is very modern and clean. Drinks - yummy and reasonably priced. Food- fresh and tasty. The whole experience of having the food cooked in front of you is exciting. Service- the servers always seem in a hurry and while not impolite it takes away from the experience. (Hence the 4 stars) service can be better. I highly recommend this restaurant. It's one of the few places in City Island that deserves my money. read more

So let's just start by saying it's me and my fiancé's anniversary. I took him to eat hibachi for the first time at Ohanas expecting an experience he would love. As we were seated , the waitress told us we weren't able to have a chef cook for us because we only had 3 people and the policy was 4 or more , so I had no choice but to agree. As we received our food, we realized a party of 2 that sat right next to our table received a chef to give them the experience we thought we'd have. I then asked to speak with a manager regarding the situation and he didn't really show any type of accommodation or understanding. He seemed very nonchalant and annoyed that I was bringing this to his attention. Then after realizing I wasn't too happy , offered a free drink to the table. I'm just getting home from eating dinner there. The host was rude, the waitress took our order and never returned though I asked for lemon. The cook was in a rush, wiping down the grill top but not properly cleaning it. In placing my salmon on my plate the hot teriaki sauce splattered and landed on my thigh, burning me. Ill be completely honest while typing this. The service was great and food came quick. But the food was horrible, your food will probably be over or undercooked i can bet you'll enjoy the drinks more then the food and not to mention how their drinks with Alcohol just tasted like lemonade. I stopped by Ohana today with my mom to have some drinks, and I have to say the service was great. We ordered piña coladas, (mine was a virgin of course because why have it otherwise?) and the prices were very reasonable. I did not eat at this establishment but from the drinks and the great service, we definitely would come and try a dish. Anyone looking for a clean, well-kept impressive place to have a dish and/or a few drinks, this is definitely the place for you. Their drinks are great but the food is not good at all ! They don't ask for any diet restrictions and don't typically listen. I tried telling the guy what I wanted and someone tried talking over me to explain what I wanted .. as if he would know. I went with my partner and my daughter who choked on a noodle. I had a golden margarita which wAs the only good thing. We sat at a table with another couple who also didn't like the food. The fried rice isn't fried. It's white rice with brown sauce probably teriyaki or soy sauce. No one says what's what or what's going into the food ! It was overall a bad experience. read more

Before preparing the meals he ask everyone if they were ok with the seasoning and if there were any foods we didn't want in our meal. The drinks were good not watered down. Hibachi-wise, the chefs perform some ok tricks, but the food quality does not commensurate its ridiculous price point. Drinks-wise, it could be hit or miss, I guess, as my wife had a seriously sour tasting mojito last night. To be perfectly straight, the reason why this place thrives, and is able to charge its ridiculous prices, is that there are hardly any places like this in the Bronx. Also, the clientele, as much as I don't want to say it, comprises mostly the uninitiated when comes to this type of cuisine, thus making them PRIMED to be ripped off. This place, with the borderline quality in its offerings, would've folded very quickly if it were to set foot in Queens. Update: The proprietor of this joint messaged me with an offer of a 10% discount on our next visit. However, she referred to me as Steve, leading me to believe that this "generous offer that wasn't much of a comp" was meant for someone else. Two of us went there for a Groupon deal for 2 - little did we know that we'd be forced to pay unforeseen "OHANA TAX for 2 (wtf Ohana is not a city, state, or US of A)" for having a group of 2 (although we had 4 people on the table as another party of 2 joined us). The Groupon drink menu is extremely limited (no import beer) AND excludes the ONLY drinks we wanted to have (BTW import beer and the drink I saw on the regular menu are both BELOW the max specified under Groupon $ limit). The bottom shelf martini drink I ended up getting was so disgusting I took a sip and that was the end. The portions are ginormous and you end up eating too much, because you keep on eating to try to find some flavor. The tempura spicy tuna rolls we got as appetizers had no flavor/crispy batter, but huge. The mystery soup (don't think it was miso, though it was murky) was just water and salt. To be fair, the service was on top of everything and hibachi chef did his routine. The only good things actually were scallops and steak the chef cooked for us, although they had some weird oil residue flavor from the grill. Although we enjoy hibachi and live in the neighborhood, we'll be looking for another hibachi destination. I hear Edo is much better. The whole time we just felt NICKELED and DIMED for everything - I think this is kind of a place that would serve other people's left overs. For $75, better meals can be found. read more

The hostess sat us at the hibachi grill with another couple. We ordered and the Hibachi chef came out he asked everyone how they would like what they ordered cooked. He was not funny nor creative. He did the little fire trick ok here is my problem stacked onions up and made a fire like a volcano and proceeded to ask the lady seated beside me to blow on the onions to out the fire. I am looking at him then looking at her as she proceeded to blow on the onions mind you something everyone at the table will ingest because it is an ingredient for the mixed vegetables. (some people are turned off by someone else blowing over their food). I was turned off. The lobster was absolutely disgusting. The lobster did not taste rubbery it was tasteless (which shrunk to very small pieces) Rice and stale tasteless noodles were served as well. The shrimp was fine. The scallops were not good at all. Where's the seasoning. I am not suggesting to have a heavy hand when seasoning the seafood on the grill but damn spice it up. My partner said the steak and chicken he ate was mediocre. He have eaten at better establishments. This was a waste of a Thursday night I was totally disappointed. I see the reason why they want you to order drinks (alcohol) so one does not have to complain about the wretched food. One good thing Ohana does is include the gratuity tax 15% to be exact. Because the service was okay but the food complete garbage. I dislike wasting my time and this eatery was a complete waste of my time. Ugh. Not to mention the bill was well over a hundred dollars so not only a waste of time but money as well. Came in here around 10:30 on a Saturday night after riding the bus and debating whether or not to have a drink at Seafood City or finding something different. Now, I've been dying to go to a lounge for the longest, but haven't found a place without high-maintenance staff and insipid door policies (whoops, my shoes can't qualify as stilts and my company isn't 45 years old). Outside of Ohana, music echoed onto the street, so I figured, why not give it a try? Ohana's lounge is absolutely stunning. Comfortable couches and low tables complement a dim, purplish lighting and simple Asian-style decor. There are TVs above the bar, while a live DJ was playing in the back. There was a little bit of space between tables for mingling. The drink menu is varied and eclectic, but I opted for a appletini (I'm such a girl, I know). The drink was pretty big, beautifully arranged and with the right amount of strength. I wasn't toast, but I was pleasantly buzzed. The DJ was amazing, as well. He played a danceable and exciting mix of reggae, hip-hop, and R&B. Kind of reminded me of my junior high prom, only, you know, without the BS. Overall, a great place for a night out; I had an amazing time. My only complaint is that the lounge area could have been more packed, but the moderate amount of couples was just fine. Eh... wasn't too impressed. I'm much more entertained and impressed by Edo. I'd have to say that's my favorite hibachi place thus far but I haven't been to any in the city so who knows.... The place was overpriced quite honestly for what you're getting. Barely any vegetables, barely any noodles, and the shrimp bowl isnt even filled in all the way. The sauces were the standard but the salad dressing wasnt as good as edo's. I guess for city island its a good place but for what I'm used to I like my local places better. So fun to eat here. The food is good and you get a lot for your money. The show that the chef puts on though is so funny and there was one joke that he played on my mother in law that was so awesome!!!! I won't ruin it by telling you about it. Please - take your mother in law over here if you want to get her good, and don't forget the kids and your appetite. Good to come and just have a nice long dinner with apps and drinks and good conversation. Had such a bad time that my previous positive experiences were completely wiped. The cook was awful: not funny, miserable, silent, and without personality. The drinks were seriously weaker and the waitress was rude. She gave me super attitude after I sent back a an appetizer that didn't taste fresh - and I was super apologetic about it, but why should I eat it, to spare her feelings? Me thinks not! She should have been apologizing to me. The food is still good and you get a lot for your money, but the cook and waitress really killed it for me. Not sure if I'd give this place another shot. During the summer months, I often enjoy driving to City Island of the Bronx to experience the many offerings this gem has to offer. Yes, I've been to "Seafood City, the restaurant" where vernacular challenged New Yorkers can not seem to distinguish one serving line from the next and the bellow of "Mami" and "Papi" fills the air from children and adult alike. On occasion, I visit this extension of the Bronx' Riviera just to remind me of why it's important to clean up after yourself when finished eating or your next visit will not be a pleasant one. This learning lesson is not for me but for my five year old and is used only as a means of indoctrination. However, when I wish to have a real family moment, I keep my choices and options limited to "my family" and decide on a real sit down experience. This restaurant proves just that. Ohana is the only communal eating establishment on City Island mimicking most other Teppanyaki restaurants. They start off with the soup, then the salad, followed by your main course and culminating with ice cream. What makes this place a stand out for me is that it is owned by a Puerto Rican entrepreneur. That's right! While most workers are of Asian decent, this restaurant's skipper is a Latino. In fairness to all Yelpers, I will not be swayed nor influenced by the owner's nationality when offering this review and commenting that the service was satisfactory. The food was well prepared and the use of sodium (this is a biggie for me) was limited to a well seasoned taste. I applaud them for that. One reviewer complained that the portions were very limited. I am not quite sure what she was referring to as this is a subjective complaint. I will say this in that regard, I believe that you are suppose to feed yourself with the portions served and not the family. In writing this, the portions are satisfactorily served. I even witness many "doggie Bags" taken. The valet at this establishment was very accommodating by over extending himself in taking my vehicle even as there were no available spots to be had. Kudos goes out to you! It is always important to start a dining experience on the plus side and he certainly did for me. From the very beginning to the end of the dinner, my family was very pleased with this establishment. Well I think that this place is alright. Would I go back again, probably not. This place has a nicely decorated interior but that is all that I can say is good. The bar is modernized so if you just want to meet up for a drink that could be a good place to go. The setup of the restaurant inside is nice.....its modern and has a lot of elegant features. I think that the Edo Japanese Steak House is much better In Pelham, NY. The food was not tasty and it just didnt have the extra something that makes great food great. The food just tasted like any other hibachi restaurant. The price is not worth the quality of the food. Overall, I wasn't that impressed by the food. I can't speak on the price because my girlfriends treated me. They had free valet which was nice. Also, even though we were almost an hour late for our reservation they still accommodated us. It's alright. When you go to a hibachi, you expect the Chef to do everything they could to make sure you're happy and entertained; but It was quite the opposite. If you have reservations, you'll still have to wait to be seated. Once you're at your table, you have to still wait for your Chef. It's City Island, it's packed so a wait is expected but it was just a snooze fest. On my experience, when the Chef arrived, you could tell in his face he's beat. There are certain things you expect from a hibachi such as, eggs in the hat trick, eggs flung in the air and cracked on the spectacular, big flame, an epic volcano, and finally shrimp thrown into your mouth (well, come the places I've been). That day, Mr Chef accomplished, only a few and it was such a joke. Just to name a couple, the volcano was 2 layers high and he missed his spectacular a few times and the egg landed right in the grill. Everything else I've mentioned was never attempted. read more

Every so often, when my mom and I wanna get stuffed, sloshed, and have shrimp tails flung down our cleavage by horribly off-key waiters, we go here. Yes its overpriced (2 entrees + 4 drinks = $120 with tip), and yes its not authentic in the least (well neither is Benihana's for that matter) but it is what it is; entertainment. As long as you can quickly back away from the crazy high, almost-singed-my-weave flames from the grill, I guess the tables qualify as wheelchair friendly. But the tiny (yet clean) bathrooms are not. However, they made my Grandma's 69th b-day last year very fun (in a down-market kinda way) for my family of seven and her, most importantly....so I'm not mad about that. read more

Japan meets Puerto Rico ! Great service and entertaining Japanese chef who started us off with a huge ball of fire. 8 course dinner was a great bargain for the two of us and we made friends with the family seated at our table. The main course came with sides of arroz and habichuelas. Tostones were a great crunchy appetizer with delicious garlic marinade tipping sauce accompanied by a twangy duck sauce. The atmosphere in the dining room was festive and fun. However there is a cool lounge near the bar with low lights and lively tunes. Great for relaxing after a hard day at the office.
