So stop in to have dinner did hibachi the Server Nancy was reaching over my plate to give things to my friend that was sitting beside me. I said it was something to her the first time she did it two more times when it was time to check out, I asked for a sprite to go. They told me it's an additional charge for a sprite so the normal drinks are not free refill. I got my check. I paid the bill. I did not leave a tip since Nancy kept on stretching over my plate to serve my friend. We did give the hibachi Chef a tip, but didn't think Nancy deserve one so as we are walking out the restaurant, the guy with no teeth decide to ask me in front of everybody why I didn't leave a tip for the Server the Server deserve a tip, very unprofessional, very embarrassing. This was my second visit to Yumi because I wanted to give the restaurant another chance after a disappointing first experience. On my first visit, my party of two paid about $96 for hibachi. I ordered the salmon and chicken. The salmon seemed undercooked and had a strong fishy smell that made me question its freshness. The chicken was rubbery and cut into very small pieces. Everything was heavily coated in soy sauce and oil. My salad was drenched in dressing, yet there was very little lettuce. The rice arrived so late that I was almost finished eating by the time it came out. We also had to ask for napkins, and the water tasted off. Later that night, I experienced significant stomach issues and nausea. While I can't say for certain what caused it, the timing was concerning. The server was also unfriendly when we paid, although I will say the hibachi chef was entertaining and pleasant. I returned recently hoping for a better experience. This time, the bill was still over $80 for shrimp and chicken hibachi. Service was slow, and both the chef and food took a long time to arrive. The salad again had very little lettuce. The chicken was better than my first visit and not as rubbery, but it was bland. The rice arrived much earlier than the rest of the meal, so it was cold by the time the food was served. I also noticed smaller portions compared to my first visit. Once the chef finished cooking, I felt rushed to leave. The server quickly brought takeout boxes and began closing out the table even though we weren't finished eating and there were still plenty of open tables. It felt unnecessary and rude. To make matters worse, a dropped takeout order left sauce on the side of my car in the parking lot...mind you I had gotten a car wash around the corner just before this. After eating, I once again experienced stomach issues shortly afterward and had to literally run to the bathroom. Another concern was the cleanliness of the cooking area. I observed food residue being scraped away at the end of cooking, and the grill did not appear particularly clean to me. After two disappointing visits, especially considering the price, I won't be returning. I wanted to give this place another chance, but unfortunately my second experience was not much better than the first. If Yelp allowed zero stars, that's what I would give this place. TLDR; food poisoning, unsanitary conditions and concern of food safety & protocol, not worth the price or the risk. read more

I stopped here to order lunch to go. They open at 1:00pm but when I arrived at 1:10 they were still mopping the floors and cleaning the restaurant. I ordered the chicken pad thai to go with wonton soup. The pad thai was bland and didn't have the traditional flavor of pad thai that I'm used to. The wontons in the soup were good but you only get 2 and the broth was bland as well. I don't think I will be returning as the food did not impress me. I was put onto this spot from some old friends when we had a get together. I was surprised that I did not know about this place, especially since it was not that far from where I live. When I got there, I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The outside wasn't much to look at and the inside seemed a little cheesy, but the there was no wait and the menu was large. The service was good and they did all of the typical tricks, but I really cared about the quality of the food. The food was on point and the leftovers reheat well the next day. By the time we left, there were several people there at closing so the rushiness was confusing. It made me feel like they were closing but 2 hours later, they were still taking guests. I had the crispy orange beef with brown rice and absolutely do not suggest this. The orange sauce was overtaking the actual meat. The meat was overtaken by the actual /hard batter or crispness. It was like eating chips with sauce. The brown rice was tasteless and was so dry I couldn't swallow it without drinking. I've had Japanese rice and it's been nice, soft and tasty, but not here. I only come for the food I know what to expect for service. This is one of the few hibachis other than Benihana's that handle food allergies really well. I do wish they would improve on service lady that served me brought me a dirty glass for my water and never came back to check on me lol. Just like many others I'm an Edo's regular and came here last night because their only availability was like midnight. However, this is my 2nd or third time @ Yumi so I'm not sure why it's not a first thought. Note to self: I have to change that! Yumi is more spacious and gives great portions, you will certainly have some to take home and good prices. The food is extremely tasty and the ladies were very friendly. The chef only did a couple of tricks and wasn't that interactive, but to be perfectly honest we didn't really care. We were ready to eat anyway so we didn't mind. We also enjoyed the fact that they are not always as busy so our party of five was able to be seated alone and wasn't forced to wait for every seat at the grill to filled first. The atmosphere and decor are nice. Food is good based on what I had and sampled with my dining companion. They make a Nice capirihna which went well with their fire wok. Their appetizers are pretty Standard Fare, however their pineapple fried rice was tasty and not at all greasy. Had a bit of the Sambal combo and that seemed alright but I prefer the fire wok anyday. Their service was pretty rushed with the waitress hovering as we repeatedly asked for more time. She clearly didnt get the hint to give us space. Either way she was pretty Annoying about being present until it was clear we were not going to order anything else. We had to flag her down to get the check and then wait for processing. We visited Yumi back in February for my niece's 8th birthday celebration. Walking in the place looks nice and is spacious. It wasn't packed and our party of 9 was seated right away. We ordered food and drinks without delay, it was actually going well until our chef came out.... Now we choose a hibachi restaurant because we were dinning with 5 kids and they love to see the fire and tricks. Our chef however had the biggest attitude ever!!!!! He threw the food on the grill, didn't interact with us at all and didn't do any of the tricks. I complained to the manager who's response was that she had something special for my niece. After our meal was complete they came and sang happy birthday to her, ummmmm is this what's special???? You guys do that anyway!! The same chef then went to the table across from ours (a non African American family) and you would have sworn it was a different person! He was smiling, doing tricks etc. I was heartbroken and after I saw the look of disappointment on my nieces faces it made me feel even worse. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere! Beautiful and tasty hibachi spot! I came here for Sunday afternoon lunch with a good friend of mine. I like Hibachi, can't say I have a specific favorite, but the places I have been are mostly outside of New York City and pretty decent.I had never heard of Yumi before this lunch however, my friend assured me I'd be satisfied after our meal, and that I was. Yumi is located within the Pelham Manor shopping center. There was no wait time, but if there was, there are plenty of shops to pass the time. Upon walking in, there is a buddha style statue with a small Koi pond - so beautiful and serene. The rest of the establishment (including the bathroom) are modern and decorated equally as beautiful. There is also a bar with a host of Saki and other good drinks. The owner's obviously spared no expense at allowing this place to stand out among other restaurants in the area. Upon entering, we were greeted and seated at a Hibachi station, initially we had thought the lunch special was offered on Sundays however, it is'nt (bummer) - therefore we switched our seats to a booth. Upon changing our seats, we ordered our food. We did not order any meals, just appetizer.s I ordered the Yumi Chicken wings with a side of Hibachi noodles, and mini spring rolls. Everything was delicious - the chicken and mini spring rolls were hot, crispy, and looked very appetizing. The wings were lightly seasoned and included a side of honey chili sauce; the wings tasted great however, the sauce wasn't very honey like; it was more of a watery consistency and tasted like simple sweet chili sauce honestly, still good though. The spring rolls were filled with vegetables, also delicious and included a similar sauce. I also enjoyed the hibachi noodles, they were flavorful, fresh, and soft. I felt motivated to return and try the hibachi, all off the strength of those noodles - very impressed. My friend opted for an order of Honey Back Ribs and a side of white rice, no complaints. Service - kind, attentive, and friendly staff. No issues or complaints. I will definitely be returning and I highly recommend Yumi to others. It was my first time going to Yumi's. We actually went to Edo's and it wasn't open just yet so someone suggested there. The food was good and the cook was alright as well but the waitress was not customer service friendly for numerous reasons. Here is one of the few. I asked her could I get a extra onions for my plate. She said they do not give extra onions and did I want a side order. I was like I only want about two extra slices to add to my plate!? Which after going back and forth about the onions for about 2 minutes I said yes. After a very tasty (less than half eaten meal) the bill comes out. There is a charge of $7.95 for onions!!! That was outrageous and I called who I am assuming was the manager and she as well was like we don't give out extra onions. You have to pay for extra vegetables because you get vegetable included in your order. $7.95???? Well needless to say I paid my portion of the bill that included the astronomical price for some onions. What did not happen was a tip! The hostess came over and asked us to give the waitress and the cook a tip because it wasn't included in the bill. The waitress was not good and now I feel sorry I didn't give the cook any thing but I didn't have cash or I would have called him back and put the money in his hand. It's to bad he had to suffer for the waitress inaptness because I would have definitely put the tip on my card for the both of them but alas.....no. Now usually I hate giving bad reviews, especially to a restaurant I loved (notice the past tense) to patronize. I know you're probably saying to yourself "Why would you ever give this place such a bad review?" Well hang tight cause here it is: 1) They don't properly clean their shrimp. A few of my shrimp had residue left in them (please see pictures). After cleaning three of them myself I just gave up (after all it's not my job). The manager was nonexistent so bringing it to his attention was like mission impossible. 2) Sloppy Chef. A good portion of my food ended up on the table instead of on my plate. Then the chef went to scrape the grill and just my luck the black stuff landed in my sauce. The chef acted like he didn't notice until I brought it to his attention. Then he reluctantly replaced it. 3)Rude service. The menu clearly stated parties of 6 or more charged gratuity, however, my party of 5 was charged. When I questioned this the waitress said "it depends. Sometimes we charge for 2 or 3 people." I shrugged it off cause we were soooo ready to get out of there. As we were walking out curiosity got the best of me, so I stopped and asked the Asst Manager. She co-signed with the waitress even after I pointed it out on the menu. She then proceeded to tell me "Every restaurant charges 15% so what's the problem?" The problem is you decided for me (after having dirty shrimp and half my plate on the table I should have a right to decide how much I feel like tipping). She then said "we usually charge 18% but if you would've said something about the gratuity I would've taken it off." Wtf I mentioned it to the waitress!
