Not unkind just not with it and I told her I'd order a drink after I had my soda and she took the drink menu away which was funny because she just save me about $30 cause I always have at least a couple, she seemed like she didn't want to be there other than that I would recommend anybody going and having a good time because it seem like everybody was there. We've had great experiences here in the past hibachi and sushi-wise, but this evenings visit was an entirely different story... ...'Hibachi Chef, please don't over cook my lobster.' As I sadly look at my plate, I received an over cooked lobster tail...What a waste! Hibachi Chef asks, 'How would you like your Filet Mignon?' 'Medium rare, please.' 'Medium well? 'No, medium rare, please.' As he's cooking and flipping and whatever else he's doing, I'm trying to get his attention without making too much of a fuss, as I know the temp has surpassed medium on my Filet. But then it dawns on me, he only knows one cooking temperature and that's well done. So what I receive on my plate is a well done, tough to chew Filet Mignon. Another waste. Geez!! I hate wasting food. Our young hibachi chef, poor thing, tried to entertain doing the flippity flips and singe flame your eyebrows off, but that's as entertaining as it got. It was a sad display. He even dropped one of his spatulas...no doubt, jokes ensued. Forget the food. Forget the odd brighter than bright, bright lights meant for a doctors office within the main dining area. The wait staff is all over the place and never around when needed. The food is BLAND. The miso soup that came out tasted like water, nothing more. The hibachi cooked in front of us was bland as all hell, too. Not to mention their Pepsi tasted weird, and so did their vegetables. Like a perfume like taste and I hated it. I urge you to check you receipt. The one star is because of the sleazy way they have decided to add a "service fee". After paying the check which included the 15% tip (btw there was no indication this would be the case. When I questioned why the amount of the receipt changed from what I was initially given to now a higher amount I was told "to run your credit card through the machine". I've been here a couple of times but I must say my favorite time coming here has been during COVID. I was really impressed with the way they are running business as usual during these times... plus the food was still amazing. I really appreciate how quick everything is here because you're not waiting forever to eat and leave. This place has the worse hosting service. We had a reservation for 8:00 pm and arrived in a timely manner. The host said that the wait is now going to be "AT LEAST" 25 minutes. The sad part is that they lobby is piling up with patrons who also are about to face the reality that they may have to wait "at least " 25 minutes before seated. Next time you promote reservations, make sure you're able to cater to the people who actually have reservations. read more

Ohana is always a good time paired with good hibachi they also have a Japarican menu which I think is pretty cool. I have been here numerous times throughout the years and the staff is always kind. The cooks are pretty hilarious, and stay hip to modern youth lingo. The food portions are pretty large and you get a lot for your money. 15% Gratuity is automatically added onto your bill but if you choose to add extra you may do so. I always have the Hibachi chicken which includes soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, fried noodles, fried rice, a medley of fresh mixed vegetables such as, onions, zucchini, broccoli, red peppers & mushrooms. It is also accompanied by fried rice and of course a large portion of chicken. The meal ends with a choice of ice cream, all this for about $21.50, drink not included. I usually visit late afternoon during the summer , so that I can catch the great sunset along the water after dinner. I made a reservation for my brother's birthday. It was a weekday the restaurant was pretty empty. We were seated quickly and the chef came within 10 minutes. The chef was very friendly sang songs did the usual volcano onion fire tricks. The food tasted great! The portion size was so large, I took food home which I normally never do. The drinks were fruity and you did not taste much alcohol. FYI: For $15 you get icecream, they take a Polaroid of your party and a slice of cake! Two stars for the chef who tried to entertain us while we were pretending to like the food he was whipping up. Outrageously expensive, poor quality food. The soup was watery, the salad and ginger dressing were sub par (pieces of lettuce that you'd never serve), all went uneaten. The fried rice and noodles were practically tasteless, and the protein was decent, but serious "over the top" expensive. Now this restaurant is a hibachi style restaurant so the tables are a little odd but it was quite tight when they sat all 12 the space was an issue. The server was friendly and he was very attentive , the first drink I ordered was not very good it was quite weak when I asked for the second one I had to be specific to make it stronger. The hibachi cook was good he was entertaining and had a couple of good jokes the usual hibachi act. The food was good and the portions were a good size. I don't know if she acted that way because gratuity is included and so she felt like she didn't have to work past taking our orders. We paid a $90 bill for sub par service and I'm not happy. This restaurant has their own parking lot that has valet which is feee of charge. Usually finding parking in city island is hard and this made it ten times easier. The decor is very chic by the bar and more traditional in the dining area. The music they played for their birthday song has a Latino essence to it. The food was very good and well seasoned. The chef we had was a woman and i was extremely happy to see her. She was very funny and down to earth better than any other hibachi chef I've been too. My only fault of this restaurant is that the waiter wasn't attentive enough. Initially he wouldn't clear our bowls when we were done with our soup or salad. He didn't give us straws with our beverages. And once he dropped off the salad he didn't come back until the very end. He always forgot to give my friend her white rice. I had the mai tai but to me it tastes like the fruit punch Minute Maid && cheap vodka. It kind of had a weird after taste to it. I really didn't like it. Valet parking is a great bonus to this restaurant. The food was just ok. I ordered the steak & chicken hibachi and the steak was very fatty - several pieces were inedible. The pieces that weren't too fatty were perfectly cooked, though. The chicken was nothing special. The entertainment level really depends on your cook (or whatever the proper name for a hibachi dude is). Ours was so-so but the table next to ours got a real show!!! As the only Japanese restaurant in City Island, I was interested in checking it out. In May my family and I chose to dine at OHANA. I guess the staff wasn't ready so we hung out in the bar area and pounded a cold one before we were seated. Shortly after the first round we migrated into the main room where there are many hibachi-style/teppanyaki tables. We met our chef and were ready to be entertained. Our loud and loquacious chef had a strange sense of humor; he made a lot of sexual comments (to me and my cousins) but they were pretty funny. The cooking "show" was fun to watch. I will say that the Benihana chefs are better. We were pleased with our dinners (we mostly ordered steak, some ordered shrimp). Usually I like to mention that it's someone's birthday in order to snag a complimentary dessert. Although it was no one's birthday that night we got two!
