As it was summer break, a lot of the other businesses in the building were closed (Vietnamese and Italian restaurant as well as a boba place). The place looks like it was being run by a hardworking couple. We checked out the menu and my wife ordered the Gyro Platter and I ordered the Souvlaki Platter. We also ordered a couple of fountain drinks. The gyro meat was well seasoned and tender. The Greek salad was quite good. The chicken souvlaki, however, seemed to lack flavor and a bit dry. Portions were quite generous and the value was there. We actually packed our leftovers for some quesadillas later. If we do go back, I would order the gyro instead of the chicken souvlaki. NOTE: They don't validate parking which was $3 for an hour

It was a smiling man sticking his head out of a kitchen window behind Cafe Gardens, which shared the courtyard with Chaucer's. "...enjoy a falafel!" "A flawhatel?" I asked. The man was Ghassan Chehab, and after serving me my first ever falafel, I ate there nearly every day. He soon moved out of the small shared-kitchen window to the famous 13th and University location, next to Burrito Brothers and Goerings Book Center - which I eventually moved to myself - and a block from my house. Falafel sandwich, spinach pie, strawberry-banana smoothie, and complimentary baklava - that was my go-to meal, always accompanied by great conversation with Ghassan. I left Gainesville in 1992 and The King moved out to Butler Plaza. I returned there a number of years later and was not only delighted to see the place still existed, but it was as good as ever! Ghassan was no longer there in person, but he certainly was in spirit. I continue to eat there whenever I pass anywhere near Gainesville, and always take home a bundle full of the falafel and pies. In fact, I'm actually writing this review with the taste of that falafel and spinach pie in mouth right now because I recently made one such trip. My friends, go eat a falafel at Falafel King!

They took the fish and shrimp were taken off the bill and she offered to have the kitchen remake the order, which I declined. The sushi roll was great so at least 1 item hit the mark. Overall not a good experience and really disappointed that at no point did anyone from management come over to discuss our issues. They were not busy and not sure what issues they were having in the kitchen but WOW!!! Such a difference between our first visit and today. Not sure we will be back and hope anyone else that try's this place has a better experience than we did. So at the end of the meal we asked the waitress if there was a manger on site to which she replied there was and would she like if we wanted to speak with them. I asked if they were aware of our issues to which she replied "yes". I told her there was no need since management was aware but had no desire to come out and attempt to address the issues. Goes to a lack of management skills and overall no concern about the customer or the quality of their food. Leaving hungry, disappointed and perplexed. Really hate it for the wait staff since they have no control over a dysfunctional kitchen and management team.
