While visiting Northern Virginia we came across Ono brewery and inside was Odds BBQ. Odds BBQ is Asian fusion. Husband and I shared the Spicy Korean Pork Belly plate that includes Seasoned Rice with double sides of mac and cheese. The pork belly was delicious with its spicy and sweet flavors. Rice was well cooked so was the mac and cheese. This meal made both of us full so we definitely got our moneys worth. I was in town for a wedding, slightly hungover, and needed something to fuel me for the drive home. Odd bbq did NOT disappoint. I got the pork and kimchi grilled cheese which was so crispy and thick. The perfect handheld to eat on the drive. I also ordered the pimento kimchi dip, a cheese biscuit, and a spicy pork belly plate with kimchi and mac and cheese. These were the perfect compliments to my lazy Sunday once I got home. The biscuit is SO GOOD you literally don't need to put anything on it. Just dive in and take a bite. The pork belly is such a good portion and jussssst spicy enough for me :) I got all the sauces to go and had fun dipping and trying each one. For the sides, the mac and cheese was so much cheesier than I expected it to be - in a good way. And the side of kimchi was well seasoned and refreshing. REALLY REALLY SALTY. Enough to motivate me to get my kidneys checked after finishing about 1/3 portion. Not sure if this is an offday or what... Looks good, taste - hmmmm not really. We were really excited to get the food and the first bite was great but with the 2nd and 3rd bite, we realized how salty everything was, from meat, to side dishes, to the rice. The kimchi was the most salty I have ever had in my entire life and when combined with the already salty and saucy meat, became inedible. Everything would have been better if the kimchi/pickles were less salty and just sweet and sour instead to go with the meat and already seasoned rice. Somewhat of a weird place in an odd area. Then you walk in the front door and it seems to be the side or rear of the place. As soon as we got in the door there were a bunch of screaming kids, seemed like we walked into Chuckie Cheese, but once we turned the corner it got a little better. There's one menu but it is at the counter when you order so they prompt you to log onto your phone and pull up their online menu. They should find a way to have more menus posted so everybody doesn't need to go searching on their phones. Got to the counter and felt a little rushed, so we didn't get our order in as we wanted, staff weren't exactly the most inviting. Then felt somewhat rushed to check out,p as they waited on me to apply the tip. Why does a tip get added for a counter service place? They don't bring you the food or serve you, nor bus your table when you're done and leaving a tip at the time of placing an order is very odd as you have no idea what sort of experience you'll have, but they squeeze you for that tip at that time anyway. It wasn't very busy yet somehow we waited about a half hour for what was a very basic order, so the tip was not really warranted. When the food was ready it was pretty good. The chopped pork was about average, but the sides were really good. The Mac & cheese and the baked beans were really flavorful as was the chili. Inside of the restaurant was nice but it was more like a brewery than a bbq shop. I didn't try other menu but food was unfortunately not impressive. Meat was too dry outside for me and beans were too sweet, coleslaw was good but little too sour. The only thing I liked was their sauce. I tried three different sauces and they were fine. I've eaten here three times now. The first two times were excellent, with really good pulled pork, pork belly, and pit beef on weck. The third time was above average, but not great. I got the ribs for the first time, and they were oddly light on smoke flavor. They had good bark, but a very shallow smoke ring, which is an odd combination. The ribs were good, but not top notch. I don't much care about service in rating a restaurant, but I will note that there has always been a bit of snippiness at Odd BBQ (as you can see in the owner's responses here on Yelp). I suspect they are striving for an "urban cool" affect, perhaps not knowing that the truly "urban cool" places like Franklin's in Austin and Hometown in Brooklyn are over-the-top friendly and solicitous. On my most recent trip, they went beyond "snippy" to openly rude. A friend who is truly knowledgeable about barbecue had accompanied me based on my strong recommendation of Odd Barbecue and my vouching for their cooking with wood. My friend is the resident person for the "True 'Cue" certification awarded by the Campaign for Real Barbecue (which was co-founded by John Shelton Reed, the noted Southern cultural historian). After our meal, my friend asked to speak with the pitmaster (Nick), so he could award him the "True 'Cue" certification and maybe get a photo. They refused to let him speak with my friend, saying he was "too busy." I suspect Odd Barbecue calls itself "odd" because of the Korean fusion touches on its menu. But it's definitely odd in another way. Almost all truly outstanding barbecue places are welcoming and courteous. Odd Barbecue is definitely not that. I was embarrassed to have dragged my friend out to Chantilly to be so rudely treated. UPDATE: My friend John Tanner left a very strong review for the food at Odd BBQ on his Barbecue Blog. Google it for a really careful, detailed assessment of the food, which is excellent. He calls the pork "some of the best pork in the area." The service got a less favorable review. "John Tanner's Barbecue Blog" is a great resource for people who care about barbecue. UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO NICK: Wow! But this was honestly kind of predictable, given Nick's combative responses to other customers. Nick says, "it's a shame you chose to share this publicly." Well, that's the purpose of Yelp, to provide both praise and criticism. My friend John and I had just come from looking at your smoker when he talked to the person at the counter. We were not there on the weekend, and there was no one at the smoker (and there was nothing being cooked). So I think Nick has his days mixed up. And the standard operating procedure for my very polite friend is to ask if the owner has time to talk about his or her smoking equipment. So it makes no sense to claim that my friend would not have been willing to walk out to look at the smoker. You weren't there, so you don't know what was said, but you still quickly (and falsely) accuse a customer of lying. We're now into truly spectacularly rude customer service. Too bad since the food is so good. Since moving back to the DMV, I've been looking for great food... and specifically great BBQ. This undoubtedly hits the spot. The theme is Hawaiian-- which I find soothing and crave after a long day/week. 1 : My only wish is that they developed a better system of ordering for pick up. During certain times, you cannot use the online ordering system. It is a big inconvenience to have to come in to order in person and wait (20-30+ mins) for the meal to be prepared when technology is sufficiently advanced to create better efficiency. Wow, Great location tucked away in an unassuming business park. I have had BBQ from many spots throughout the south and this one is very interesting in a great way. Southern BBQ with a Korean twist. I had the chopped pork with spicy kimchi and cheddar biscuit. The kimchi is very spicy, but not so much that it's over load, in fact it's about at my limit of maximum spice without trying to prove something. Great flavor too. You have popular Willards BBQ literally across the road so I can see why this is such an obscure place. But if you want good BBQ without the long lines, definitely try this place out. It has a limited menu, with all the traditional meats like ribs, brisket, smoked chicken but a few specialty items. There was about 5/6 different sauce to choose from. I ordered carryout so got a sample of each to try. I ordered 2 sliders- one brisket and one smoked chicken on cheesy biscuit. It was very basic, but tasted good. Also got the kimchi Cuban sandwich which was tasty. It could get a bit more kimchi though. Ordered the two meat platter for my husband and son. They said it was good, not wow though. When you serve ribs that have been so over cooked that the meat stays behind when you lift it by the bone, you lose one star. When your baked beans are straight out of the can, you lose another. Once again Yelpers were right! Odd BBQ is a hidden gem tucked deep in an industrial park, and it's totally worth a visit. The menu is American barbecue with a Korean twist. I recently stopped by for curbside pickup. I got cheese biscuit sliders and a Korean Cuban sandwich. Both were flavorful, juicy, and had the right balance of flavors. My husband loved that the sandwich was a bit sour from the kimchi, which really complemented the pork barbecue. I liked the biscuits and could have eaten another portion. My only wish is that it would have been easier to also place an order for beer along with the food, but I understand that may not logistically be possible. Had the new beef on weck and potato salad. Got an email yesterday about it and wanted to try it out. Great sandwich if you like tender roast beef dipped in jus. They have a Korean spin on some of the food, so I HAD to get pork belly bbq, kimchi, and pickles. It came with rice. The pork belly was the perfect amount of crispy. There was A LOT of it. Read all the other reviews and you'll see "unique" and "gem" and the like. They aren't wrong at all. In fact it is unique and a gem in this random business park area, tucked away just off Route 50. The Korean flare is a novel take on good ole American BBQ, and this pretty much did not disappoint. Perhaps it was the relatively low expectations for the food, given that this was in a brewery, or sharing a space with one. Most folks will know that you don't go to a brewery for food, in fact Yelp Elites usually would avoid it. The food is a necessity for the brewery to be there, so it usually is an afterthought and a kluge to get up to regulation (damn regulations!). Well, this case it's flipped. You want to come here for the food, and probably not too interested in the brews. The order of the brisket and the cheesey biscuit were both satisfactory, in fact, both were delicious. However those biscuits are really well done. There's probably some inappropriate joke I could make here about biscuits, but I'll refrain. I like to start off the decade with some class and decor. Now, I could have easily eaten a second biscuit, and they are bigger than standard biscuit sizes I would say, but that would be a crime at a BBQ joint to eat more carbs than meat. Nevertheless, do as you please, for this is America. We called an audible on the Brisket + Onion Grilled Cheese and swapped the onions with kimchi. We thought we were smart, but turns out we were dumb (okay just not as smart as we thought we were). While the sandwich was still good, I think the brisket flavor and the kimchi flavor were both too strong and it really overpowered everything. The taste buds were overwhelmed and instead of it being a beautiful dance of flavors on my tongue, it was like a smashing of my taste buds to smithereens. Not in a good way, but not in a bad way. It just wasn't meant to be. So respect their suggested sandwiches. I'm sure that Korean Cuban Pork Sandwich would be much better balanced than the brisket and kimchi fiasco I just described. No where do we fall short one star? Honestly this could have easily gone for five, but I docked one for the "OK" Mac and cheese. It sort of tasted like Kraft Mac, which is still good, but at the end of the day it is still, Kraft Mac. I'd definitely be back to try more of their food. Probably will pass on the brewski's again though. They don't seem to have a great attitude over there, especially if it's your first time there and you don't know what the hell is going on. Well if you like being treated by impatient "bartenders" then go on ahead. TL;DR: Great "unique" BBQ here. Try out their sandwiches and the biscuits for something a little off the beaten path. Jesus was an Arab.......and......Mac n Cheese pairs perfectly with Kim Chi! What you've been taught is not always true lol! I got ribs, Kim Chi, and Mac n Cheese. Kim Chi was fresh and tasty, Mac n Cheese was like an upgraded version of the type you buy in the box. The cheese was thick, smooth, and had a nice sharpness. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and had a Korean spice blend on them that works perfectly. I also liked the fact that they had a large selection of sauces to choose from. This is what a good barbecue fusion menu looks like. You have your classic, American barbecue sides (potato salad, Mac and cheese, baked beans) and then you have you Korean sides and they are just *chef's kiss.* My favorite is the ginger sesame slaw which is so bright and spicy and is a great reprieve from the heaviness of most barbecue sides. And the meat! The chicken is thighs-only so it's never dry and you have many a sauce option for those picky about their barbecue sauce.
