How do you know you found the perfect optometrist? When they go above and beyond to make sure you have your contacts when you need them!!! This past Monday, I was trying to pick up my contacts before Oculus closed at 6pm and of course not only is there terrible traffic getting out of DTLA (adios potential uber ride), but the metro gold line was also running very behind schedule. I decided on the latter and prayed to get there on time. With only two minutes till closing time, and less than one metro stop away, I called and spoke with one of the employees and asked if there was any way I could PLEASE still pick up my contacts. I was out of town when they had arrived and I still hadn't had the opportunity to get them. Not only did they say it was not a problem, the gentleman on the phone told me to they would have my contacts ready. If I needed more than 5 minutes, they would remain open until I arrive. T.T Seriously, I was glad I was finally able to get my contacts that day. Everything about Oculus is fantastic! I can see why all the reviews are so positive. Dr. Shirvanian is the best and really seems to care for her patients. She was very thorough and professional. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend it if you are looking for a new optometrist! FYI - prior to ordering your contacts, they will let you test out your contacts. I spend 2.5 weeks testing out bi-weekly and monthly contacts. When I decided which ones I preferred, I gave them a call and they placed the order. read more

This is my new optometrist. During my first appointment I was taken in right on time, there wasn't any unnecessary paperwork and everything was done paper free which I love plus the doctor was great! She really examined my eyes and made a suggestion for these drops that really helped the dryness. Happy camper! read more

Not only did she respond swiftly and professionally, but she made time to meet with me to ensure everything ended on a positive note. Where do I begin? I was due for an eye exam and new eyewear and found Oculus via an internet search. I visited the practice to browse the eyewear selection (some might say that I am a picky person) and had met Merna, Robert, and Dr. Shirvanian. Everyone was kind and eager to help, and I was especially thrilled how they were able to see me for an eye exam at that very moment. Despite my unscheduled exam, I really appreciated how Dr. Shirvanian took her time with me, answered questions, educated me on eye health, shared some tips & tricks, etc. It was not a "rush visit" and I never had the feeling that time was an issue. The other staff also went the extra mile to help with my orders (I ended up buying a pair of eyeglasses and sunglasses) and they were even able to accommodate a couple unique requests. I also note that it was evident this practice has excellent relationships with its vendors as they had called (right there, before my eyes) the eyewear vendor and lab to confirm my requests in real-time. When I returned to the practice to pickup my new specs, the staff offered their continued assistance should I need anything adjusted at anytime. They don't make you feel like a "transactional" customer/patient; they establish a relationship with you for the long-term. read more

Convenient Location with Exceptional Service Frequent visitors the SouthPas area, my husband and I were anticipating the opening of this store for a long time. The location is very easy to find with (free) ample parking(it used to be the old arts & crafts store Zinnia). It's also in the middle of SouthPas' quaint little boutiques and café's on downtown Mission St.--which makes it pleasant if you want to take a stroll or grab lunch afterwards. Finally having the chance to go in this weekend we were left nothing short of impressed. The unique storefront will definitely grab your attention, not to mention the distinctly attractive architecture inside. It's a modern store, in an urban location with a charming feel. The store was very relaxing and had a personable atmosphere. The artworks on the walls were also a nice twist to the typical model display ads. My husband and I took turns to get our eyes examined and had the same impression of the doctor: extremely knowledgeable, very patient and highly attentive. Both Dr. Shirvanian and Myrna were non-imposing, very helpful and friendly in letting us pick out frames. We tried them on at our leisure without the pressure of being rushed into making a purchase just for a sale. We were excited to check out some of their wide-range selection of eyewear: RayBan, Prada, Persol, Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, Alexander McQueen--there's definitely a style for everyone. They made sure we were completely satisfied with our decision before leaving--we left with three pairs of shades. Their customer service was exceptional and the ease of having to fill out the paperwork in a smooth, easy, and timely manner was also a big plus. I was referred to Oculus Optometry through my VSP insurance and had no idea they were located in a part of town that I spend a lot of time in...they are right down the street from Busters if you're familiar with that block of Mission St... Upon entering, I was kindly greeted by a gentleman at the desk, checked in and allowed to browse frames before Dr. Shirvanian called me back. The location is clean, has modern decor and has plenty of natural white lighting. It made selecting a frame unusually quick. Dr. Shirvanian! You are a breath of fresh air! She was kind, thorough but concise and very approachable. It was the easiest eye exam I've had -- her skill at the dreaded eye pressure test (pump of air into your eye) was wonderful! With the help of Myrna, I was able to select a flattering and timeless frame. Myrna was helpful without being pushy. I am so glad to have found Dr. Shirvanian and Oculus Optometry. I called late in the week and was able to get a Saturday Appointment. Let me just say that this was the best Optometrist visit I've ever had. The beautiful ladies they have working the office are extremely professional and knowledgeable. They answered all my questions, did a thorough job of examination, and even took the time to help me select the best looking frames (providing excellent feedback). Honestly, I can't say a bad thing about this place and I commend the owner for hiring such excellent employees. It was clean, relaxing (I was not rushed), and felt that I got the right prescription. Thank you to everyone here on Yelp for your wonderful reviews - they were the final influence on making an appointment with Dr. Shirvanian. She is the BEST optometrist I have ever experienced (and trust me - I've seen about 15 over my lifetime). She is very patient with those of us with anxieties, does a very thorough examine without making you feel like the tests are redundant, explains everything in terms I understood without making me feel like a dolt ~ and did not at all mind if I sought to fill my prescription elsewhere. Best of all - she accepts VSP, who sent me a list of doctors in my area. My only wish is that there were a bit more cost-effective frames available. There are some, and a great lens/frame package goes along with them, but the selection is very limited. Perhaps we Yelppers can drum up more business for her and she in turn can have more variety for us budget-conscientious folks. read more

I really have to write a review because I feel like they, Dr. Shirvanian and front desk, really care about those who also have Medi-cal. I went to them after I had issues with the last Optometrist my son had. They however, really helped from the first day I walked in to when my son lost his glasses on the bus. At some point, I was unsure about whether they will keep me updated (again last place had me calling almost everyday for updates). But man! Are they very precise and keep their word on giving you a call the next day or next week about updates. I appreciate and am thankful there are still humble optometrist Doctors out there. Fantastic! Finally, an office who knows what they are doing. I don't have the best insurance, it doesn't cover as much as my previous plan but Oculus was able to break it down for me. Not only explaining what my insurance covered but also giving me prices and explaining how it would be best for me to use my insurance. I wanted both glasses and contacts but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg. So the manager was able to break it all down and get me the best cost possible. Which was really reasonable compared to other places I had gone to. The cute little blonde girl who works with the manager helped me pick out a very flattering pair of glasses and the gentleman who does the adjustments made sure they fit properly on my face before settling on the frame I ultimately purchased. Upon picking up my glasses they made sure they worked and fit correctly. I did have a little issue with the glasses at first, they felt a little stronger than I was used to, but the girl said to take a few days and try not to switch between my old ones and she was so right! Once my eyes adapted to the new prescription I see so much more clearly, especially at night. I am so glad I came across Oculus and their amazing, knowledgable staff. IDK what the complaints in other reviews are about because these guys absolutely rock! I guess it's how the saying goes... You can't please everyone. But for me and my family, we have hands down found our favorite glasses place. read more

These guys are outrageously expensive and have bunch of "rules" which I'd simply call excuses to charge you more. All I wanted is check my eyes if I need stronger prescription for my contact lenses and is costs over $200 in this place! That's almost double of the other 5 star rated places on yelp. read more

I don't really know what some of these bad reviews are about because I had a wonderful experience! The staff and doctor are all super nice, friendly, and helpful! I've been going to various eye doctors for the last 10 years (I move a lot) and the prices here are pretty much the same as I've paid in the past. Although I will say I did just look up the frames I purchased for $225 (before insurance) at oculus are only $136 on framesdirect.com, but they would be considered out of network for most eye insurance. So in the end I'm not sure if ordering the frames instead would save more money. Still the staff and doctor seemed very genuine and helpful so I can't imagine getting better service anywhere else. I very much enjoyed my recent eye exam and contact fitting at Oculus Optometry. They are in network with my vision insurance--VSP--and I found them on my insurance company's list of providers (though I had been eyeing them for several months each time I walked by their gorgeous storefront.) The receptionist, Myrna, was very helpful in checking and then explaining my benefits to me before I made the appointment. I appreciated knowing ahead of time how much I was going to pay for, say, the most comprehensive exam and highest quality contact lenses. Once I arrived, Myrna warmly greeted me and I filled out minimal paperwork (I didn't even need to sit to fill it out it was that brief!) Dr. Shirvanian then did the standard vision, glaucoma, eye check up tests, etc. done at other optometry offices, but she was more thorough than the rest; She took her time examining my eyes, told me what she found as she went along, never rushed me, and several times, she asked me if I had any questions. I was most impressed with how careful and conservative she was in prescribing specific contact lenses to me. Instead of suggesting I immediately purchase the trial contact lenses she fitted me with that day, she had me come back one week later, reexamined my eyes, and only at that point did she okay the ordering of them. She wanted to make sure I wasn't having any issues with them before ordering a whole year's supply. Myrna was also very knowledgeable about the different brands of glasses they carry and she, like Dr. Shrivanian, was genuinely interested in me getting the best product possible; I found a line of glasses that looked okay, but instead of purchasing one of those, Myrna told me I could do better and suggested I come back in a few weeks when they were going to have more styles that would look better on me. This shows me that Myrna has integrity which is really a rare find in the case of businesses that have a retail component. Myrna and Dr. Shrivanian are such a great addition to the historic district of Mission St. They sell glamorous sunglasses, prescription glasses, and also offer excellent and personable professional services as well. Told me to look around and also gave me some tips about transition lenses she also showed me some samples and also gave me a price strait up no games Or hidden fees she even offered to order the pair of ray bans thAt they didn't have in stock at the moment so I went for it .
