During pre-op, they were careless and injured my eye, which caused me a lot of pain and to miss work for a week. When I asked Dr. Shammas to look at my eye because something was wrong, he told me to let him do his job and I should do mine. Then he told me that I had a "softness" on my eye and we would need to reschedule surgery. I was in so much pain that I had to go to urgent care the next day and then to see an ophthalmologist a couple days later, and was informed I had a corneal abrasion. To make matters worse, Dr. Shammas had put a contact lens in my eye to help it heal, but the lens was torn, further worsening the injury. I took Laser Eye Center to small claims court, but since I had signed an unfair agreement absolving them of all liability, the case was dismissed and I was unable to recover my out of pocket expenses. I would not recommend Laser Eye Center to anyone. They just take your money and do as many surgeries as they can in a day. Go see a real doctor instead.

What she did do is went through my entire medical history without my approval and without my family present and then asked me extremely personal intimate questions that had nothing to do with my eyes. Dr Hou did my retina surgery and he's a very professional doctor. He clearly takes pride in his work. And he's very kind and likeable. Many docs would have berated me for not coming in to the office earlier--I should have (long story). But Dr Hou didn't and I appreciated that. I'll do my own flagellations, thank you. And he has a good sense of humor. My surgery didn't have the result I'd hoped for but that was not Dr Hou's fault. I certainly would trust him to do any future surgeries I might need. About waits: I've had about 20+ appointments in the last two years. Only once did I have to wait longer than half an hour. At my prior eye clinic (Pasadena Eye Specialists), the waits were nearly always much longer, 2 hours avg--sometimes 5+ hours!! That place was contemptuous of patients. I've never felt anything like that from the staff at Doheney. [See my review of Pas Eye Specialists for some juicy details!] I've seen about 20+ nurses/tech staff and they've been consistently very good. I've had a couple problems with nurses: One that coughed all over me w/out covering up. And another that...well, I'll just say I didn't like how she talked to me. I'm not a dog. But these were exceptions. The parking fee isn't great but I avoid it by having my ride drop me off outside the gate. The short walk is pleasant. It's a nice building and grounds. I think Doheney is a very good eye facility. I'd recommend it w/out reservations. Compared to my earlier experiences at the eye clinic in Pasadena, it's great!

Customer service is brutal, there is no sense of fostering any patient relations. Every person we interacted with in the office besides the doctor was cold and detached. We show up on time and waited between 1-2.5 hours for every single appointment we have had. They seem to be concerned with booking as many ppl as possible. We've been patients for two and a half years for our daughter since she was 3 years old. our insurance was changed and they no longer accepted the insurance we currently had. We tried to continue our daughter's care by paying out of pocket but they refused service because their policy says they cannot accept cash from patients with our type of medical insurance. I understand policy is policy but the system they abide to seems heartless and I definitely have not felt any type of personal concern towards our daughters well being from this office. With some back and forth testing to see whether we qualified for the procedure, we did have to visit the City of Industry location a couple of times since they had a specific machine for dilation that the SM location did not have. In the end I ended up having my surgery there and it was a breeze! I also saw both Dr. Grace and Dr. Nguyen as my optometrists - both amazing and honest drs. Literally told me as it is, and reassured me that post surgery, it would take awhile for me to readjust due to my past prescription. Not sure that they would be easy to procure, I did some research and found out about AccessorEyes, a boutique glasses shop and optometrist office in Pasadena, and I am so happy I did. With AccessorEyes, every interaction and step in the process from beginning to end has been a master class lesson in customer service that other shops should learn from. Like I alluded to earlier, I was interested in a very specific designer, and I scheduled an appointment to come in. I showed Sam, one of the owners, the frames I was interested in, and he took me through all of the designers they work with, and frames that I might be interested in. There were very interesting frames, but I wanted to go with the specific designer. Sam then takes out the catalogue and we go through each set of frames in the book, and I choose out my pair. Something that is great about AccessorEyes is that they work very closely with these small manufacturers and designers. They have a close relationship with all of them, and they get amazing and unique frames! With the frames I alluded to earlier, AccessorEyes made a custom order as they didn't have them in the actual store. After I chose out my frames, I got my lens prescription updated by Dr. Mehrabyan, the other owner, who was thorough, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. They really focus on the customer at AccessorEyes, and took the time to get my prescription right. She showed me the scans of the eyes, going over what I was looking at. There even was a virtual model of the shape of my eyes if I recall correctly. I've never had someone spend as much time on an eye exam until now. My glasses arrived today, and I couldn't be happier. Before coming to AccessorEyes, I've never been fully happy with an Optometrist office before. Sure I got the glasses I was interested in, but the experience was more of a transaction than a personal experience. The list price, and prices at other authorized dealers in CA was in the mid 600s. When I asked Oculus Optometry why they were so much more expensive, they told me that since they accept vision insurance they jack up the prices to offset any frame allowance insurance provides. However, the other CA optometry offices also take VSP insurance and don't jack up the prices. I feel this office is very shady and trying to take advantage of consumers. I would NEVER give them my business.
