I do have to say I was quite impressed with this joint. I used to go to the fancy South Pasadena Optometry but they have a problem with taking EyeMed Health Insurance. I was like really? So we moved to this joint for my son and the doctors are extremely nice to the kids and I will go going there now as well. This is a great spot to get your eyes checked and pick up a pair of glasses! I like to patronize local small businesses and this place is great. I was draw in at first by the beautiful interior design, but I keep coming back because everyone who works there is friendly and professional. Dr. Shirvanian is approachable and takes her time with her clients. She's very friendly and conversational while also staying on task and giving good advice. They worked easily with my VSP insurance. They offer a nice range of moderate to expensive frames and don't mind if you take all day trying to pick the perfect pair.... like I do. read more

This place is fantastic. There are no forms to fill out, other than a single slip of paper for confidentiality. Everything is digital, which I love. I came a little early for my appointment, but I was still helped immediately. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful, and they clearly explain the pricing for everything performed. The place is very professional and the doctor was incredibly helpful with my specific needs. The glasses selection are also quite nice. Although limited, their selection is very modern with recognizable brand names. Dr. Shirvanian and her staff are all amazing! Everyone there is very friendly and fully helpful, knowledgeable, kind, and always ready to assist whether it's with contacts or glasses, concerns about your kids, or making an emergency eye appt (which just recently happened to me). There is NEVER a wait, she does not pack in her patients and never rushes you through your appt. Regarding covid, they are handling things very well. Staff politely requests to take your temperature before you are allowed in. Everyone is wearing masks and they direct you to wash hands before you do anything else. I did once have a question about insurance that her staff couldn't answer right away. They apologized, looked into it immediately and called me back within a half hour with the info. Given how complex insurance can be, it is not realistic to think they should know everything. I appreciate the carefulness and thoroughness of making sure they had correct info before sharing it with me. I was recommended to Dr. Shirvanian by a local business owner and wouldn't ever hesitate to recommend Oculus to anyone. read more

I've been wearing glasses for 21 years and it is very important to have a good optometrist. Dr. Shirvanian was very sweet, honest and informative. The exam was quick and easy, unfortunately I cannot say the same when it came down to choosing my frames. They have a really good selection of different styles. The office manager Myrna was very helpful, honest and very patient with me. I ended up purchasing a pair of glasses and sunglasses and I also received them pretty quick. read more

Dr. Shirvanian and Ryan have exceptional patient care. From initial phone call to picking out glasses for my son. I have a 5-year-old that has speech problems and every time he did a vision test he would fail, due to "lack of communication". When I called the office to inquire about services Ryan assured me that my child would be taken care of. Check in was fast and easy and Ryan explained the process from start to finish. When my child was examined by Dr. Shirvanian, she did a thorough eye exam, and let me just say, I was very impressed! She truly makes her patients her number one priority! My son was comfortable with her as she has such a calm and welcoming demeanor that it doesn't feel like your typical optometrist office. Towards the end of the visit it turns out my child needed glasses and the moment he started to distinguish and say what the objects shown were, it almost brought me to tears. She has been one of the few doctors that did not treat my child as if there was something terribly wrong for not pronouncing things right. When it came time to pick out glasses Ryan was awesome in assisting my 5-year-old pick glasses that would work best for him and not to mention parents that also wanted a certain look. The process was quick and simple, I will always forever be thankful I found them and that my child was treated exceptionally! I HIGHLY recommend this office, you will not regret! read more

I have always recommended Oculus to all my friends. Today they went above and beyond. My bf noticed a yellow spot on my eye. I was paranoid as we were going on vacation in a few days so I called to see if I could get an appt ASAP. Luckily, they had an opening. I appreciate them squeezing me in and just their overall friendly staff. The spot was nothing and I was able to laugh off the fact that I was so paranoid for nothing. They were so gracious about it. This is a really nice place. From first glance it becomes evident that a lot of effort went into designing this office. The way they have laid out the frames is very cool since you can just browse through all of them as you walk along the really long displays running along both side walls of the office. And the displays are nicely lit from above and below giving you a clear look at the frames. I'm not sure why this in particular struck me as important but I guess it contrasts with other offices where you go from stand to stand looking for the right frame. The doctor and staff are super nice as well and they used equipment I hadn't seen before at other optometrists I've visited over the years. The main measuring device the OD used was all digital and she was switching between lenses with a flick of a button so I feel we were more thorough with getting the right measurements. The optician as well used a digital device I hadn't seen before to get the dimensions of my face so the glasses fit properly (and they both gave clear explanations of what does what and how it works). This was definitely a different optometrist experience for me. And the glasses turned out just perfect. I definitely recommend this optometrist office. read more

What a wonderful place! It was easy to make an appointment, the store is lovely, the staff are very helpful and the optometrist, Dr. Shirvanian, was amazing! My husband and I asked tons of questions about every test that was done and they were all answered thoroughly and with a smile. I have been wearing glasses my entire life and have seen my share of optometrists. Oculus is by far the most modern and technologically up to date facility I have ever been a patient at. Do you ever go into an optometrists off and feel like you just stepped back in time? Well this is definitely NOT that place! Dr. S is very knowledge, very patient, and makes great recommendations when it comes to glasses. I usually wear contacts, but because of the huge selection of glasses, which Dr S helped me pick out, I mostly wear glasses now. I also ordered my contacts here for backup and had them delivered right to my house. Oculus also took my VSP INSURANCE, which made it all the better. read more

my brain understands that oculus is just a place to go to have your eyes examined and to buy glasses but my visit to oculus was soul affirming. in the world of fast paced, internet- driven, instant gratification, dr. shirvanian's manner reminds you of what it must have felt like to have a doctor make house calls only with all the technological bells and whistles of 2017. she is so warm and her staff is so attentive that, even with a well attended rayban event happening in the store at the time of our visit, we were made to feel as though our needs were their priority. ron, apparently new to the staff, had researched my medical plan even before our appointment alerting me to coverage i didn't even know i had! their prices are average based on my previous experience with high end designer eye wear stores however, the extensive thought and effort that the staff took to find every way to give us the most bang for our buck was unique and most appreciated. in the end i only spent slightly more than i did to buy progressives on warbyparker.com but ended up with the best of everything! i highly recommend oculus optometry if you are interested in an exceptional customer service experience. read more

Dr. Shirvanian and Myrna are wonderful. Especially since I've been so indecisive about whether I want contacts or glasses. Dr. Shirvanian was nothing but kind and understanding during my eye exam, and made me feel like I was her only patient. She was willing to let me try every contact lens until I found the "right" one, even after 6 months of my initial visit. Myrna was awesome too, she answered all my insurance questions and even gave me more info. She was so understanding of my budget and still hasn't rushed me to make a purchase. Very happy I was recommended this place by Envolve Vision. They were also able to examine my other daughter through her VSP insurance. The office is very modern and and check-in was fast and easy. What I did like was there was no paperwork to fill out. Just a "confidential" slip to sign. We didn't have to wait long before we were called in. Being the first time at this office Dr. Shirvanian was very welcoming and made my girls feel comfortable during their exam. She took her time examining my girls and explained everything clearly. She is very professional and knows what she's doing. The receptionists' were very polite and explained the benefits offered through their insurance when it came to choosing my daughters' glasses. I cannot say enough great things about Oculus, I have always gone to Linden Optometry in Pasadena however I had a day off and called them on a whim to make a same day appointment and not only were they RUDE but they also pretty much made me feel bad that I needed a same day appointment. So I yelped places close to me and found Oculus Optometry. THEY ARE AMAZING!! Myrna was so friendly and made an appointment for me within 5 mins for that same day. It was a little late in the day but the Doctor was able to squeeze me in. The people at the front desk were so nice and sweet and the Dr. Shirvanian was awesome! She listened to my concerns and gave me several options to try. She even gave me a sample of contact lenses to try for a week and then saw me again to see how I liked them. My VSP insurance covered everything which was even better. I ended up buying some Ray Ban glasses that I love - I am an avid contact wearer but these glasses were so cute that I've been wearing them again. What's even better is that Myrna at the front desk sat with me and showed me which glasses were covered with my insurance, what I had to pay out of pocket (if any) and the very specific breakdown of everything. Really great experience from start to finish, and a wide selection of glasses. I ended up getting both sun and regular glasses - both prescription.
