Run as far as you can from Laser Eye Center! This place is like a factory and they don't care about you as an individual or your patient rights. During pre-op, they were careless and injured my eye, which caused me a lot of pain and to miss work for a week. When I asked Dr. Shammas to look at my eye because something was wrong, he told me to let him do his job and I should do mine. Then he told me that I had a "softness" on my eye and we would need to reschedule surgery. I was in so much pain that I had to go to urgent care the next day and then to see an ophthalmologist a couple days later, and was informed I had a corneal abrasion. To make matters worse, Dr. Shammas had put a contact lens in my eye to help it heal, but the lens was torn, further worsening the injury. I took Laser Eye Center to small claims court, but since I had signed an unfair agreement absolving them of all liability, the case was dismissed and I was unable to recover my out of pocket expenses. I would not recommend Laser Eye Center to anyone. They just take your money and do as many surgeries as they can in a day. Go see a real doctor instead. read more

I actually only called this place. Told them what was up with my eyes, and that I needed to see the doctor. She first asked if I intnded to have surgery there. I said, I don't know, thats why I need to see the doctor. She then proceded to tell me it was $175 for something, and another dollar amount for something else. I then interupted her and said I thought you have 'free consultation' she said thats onlyif you're going to do the surgery through them. How can someone know they need surgery without speaking to the doctor. So, I thn asked if you took Medicare, she said no and I said Good-bye. Im not going to schedule an operation if I don't know whats up with my eyes first. Putting the cart before the horse if you ask me. Besides $175 and no medicare..Not going to happen. read more

Bait and switch! I purchased an Amazon Local promotion for Conventional Lasik from this place and had a consultation the following day. Long story short, they asked me for another $1000! Instead of the 1 day outpatient surgery with the kerotome blade, they said my voucher was only good for PRK (the method where they basically scrub out your cornea instead of creating a flap and takes 4 days to heal and only 1 eye is done at a time). Their promotion was incredibly misleading as it stated nothing of the kind. I called Amazon right away and they were shocked to hear what had happened and will be refunding me immediately. Funniest thing I saw in the office was a BBB plaque hanging right above the counter. Shame on them. read more

Went in for a consultation and I had a very good experience (it was not a saturday). the staff was friendly, attnetive and answered my question. I guess it's like any retail store or restaurant...it dpends on the day you go and the staff working that day. The doc works at different facility (@ the surgery center)...but the staff offered to setup a meeting...if I was interested in meeting the doc. So why do I give a "ok" rating...well i only have one data point. I have been very wary of lasik surgery because my eyes are super sensitive, but the staff here was really kind and welcoming which put me at ease. Very professional office and knowledgeable staff. I kept putting this off but now that I can see without worrying about keeping my glasses on me at all times I feel so relieved--plus in this hot summer weather it's so nice to not have muggy glasses all day. I had been thinking about getting lasik for several years and finally decided to do it. I decided to shop around for the best doctors and the best prices. I heard that the Laser Eye Center had the lowest rates, so I checked it out. I recently went in for a Lasik eye consultation at the Laser Eye Center and I must say that it wasn't the most pleasant experience. I came in on a Saturday and the place was empty. No patients were there. Only a few employees who were watching the soccer game on the TV that was above my head in the waiting area as I was filling out my information. The facility was ok, but not as nice as Dr. Berg Feinfield's TLC Office in Burbank that I went to a week prior (who already told me I was a perfect candidate). They weren't the most friendly people either. There were about 4 people who helped me during my consultation and only 1 was friendly, I believe his name was Art. Anyway, they put me in a room with the lights off. Thank goodness there was a window (even if the blinds were closed), otherwise I would have been in a pitch dark room all alone. They did the consultation in the dark room, left me in there for about 15 minutes until my eyes were dilated while the employees were walking in and out getting supplies. And yes, I was still in the dark room. I don't know if they're trying to save on electricity or if they were trying to keep it dark for my dilated eyes, but they didn't give me an explanation. Indeed, the prices were a lot cheaper and I'm sure the doctor is great, but I didn't even get to meet him. He wasn't at the office. But they did say that there would be incentive for me to get lasik done that day. Are you kidding me?! I don't even trust you AND I haven't met the doctor! Later, I was finally put into a lit office with a woman who wasn't very friendly, she just said "so what do you want to do?" I said I'd think about it. I found it strange that there were no patients there during my entire appointment. I thought Saturdays were most convenient for most people. And I found it strange that they put me in a dark room for so long. And I found it odd that I didn't get to meet the doctor and yet they tried so hard to get me to do my lasik that day. I'm sure the doctor is highly trained, but I just couldn't get passed the unfriendly staff. They may have low prices, but I need more than that to let people touch my eyes. read more

Let me preface this review by stating that I am 60 years old, and wear progressive lens glasses, primarily for reading and computer use. I was tired of wearing glasses and wanted to explore the possibility of Lasik surgery. My review of Laser Eye Center actually begins in the 3rd paragraph, but for context, let me first tell you about an experience at a different Lasik provider. The first place I went (which shall remain nameless at this time) performed an eye exam and offered me 3 options: 1) They could improve my distance vision (which is already pretty good), accompanied by minor improvement to my reading vision. 2) Give me "mono vision", which is one eye set for distance and one eye set for reading (they demo'd this for me with a set of lenses. I found it disorienting, and didn't care for it, though I imagine one's brain would eventually adjust to it). 3) Even though I don't have cataracts, they could perform cataract-style surgery to replace the natural lenses behind my corneas with, essentially, progressive lenses which would give me better vision overall (though not quite perfect). Number 3 is the option they recommended, at a cost of $12,000. I felt a bit rushed, and like I'd been given a sales pitch. Before jumping into a procedure with such permanent results, and of course substantial cost, I opted to get a 2nd opinion, hence my visit to Laser Eye Center. The people at Laser Eye Center performed a similar eye exam, but this time I actually got to see the surgeon, rather than just the technician/salesperson I saw at the other place. The doctor informed me I wasn't a good candidate for Lasik, due to my astigmatism, combined with my blurry reading vision (remember my distance vision is pretty good). He said they could improve my distance vision, but that didn't really need to be done, and unlike the other place, he said my near vision would not benefit at all from this procedure. He also mentioned the mono vision option (one eye for reading, one eye for distance) but he worried that due to my particular prescription, it could lead to issues with dizziness, and he just isn't really a fan of mono vision for most people, and my case especially. I asked him about the cataract-style surgery, since he never brought it up. He said that was an option if I wanted to get really aggressive, but he advised against it. First, my eye exam showed no trace of cataracts, and the current technology for replacing those natural lenses with artificial ones is less than perfect. According to the doc, we will all develop cataracts at some point, if we live long enough. Typically it happens as we approach age 70, more or less. He surmised that the technology is likely to improve significantly during that time, and urged me to wait until I actually start to develop cataracts. He advised me to come back in 10 years. Since part of my frustration with progressive-lens glasses involved having to crane my neck at an awkward angle to see the computer on which I work all day, he said the best thing for me to do is to get a pair of prescription lenses set for computer distance. Problem solved. What a wonderfully different experience. The other Lasik place was really anxious to take my 12 grand and provide surgery which very well might not be in my best interest. The doctor at Laser Eye Center clearly cared more for my well being than raking in another big wad of cash. That's called ethics...a quality clearly lacking in that other Lasik provider. read more

I CAN SEE!! My exp with the Pasadena staff at the inital consulation was great. Everyone from the front desk clerk to the office manager and of course the designated optomitrist were all very kind, patient and helpful. The staff at the Los Angeles office were also very kind. The Doctor took very good care of me informing step by step what to expect during the procedure so there were no surprises and felt very comfortalbe putting my eyesight in his hands. At first I was worried about the surgery, but their staff really made me feel like family. They are all very nice and knowledgeable, and it really seemed like everyone knew what they were talking about. My father had his eyes done over 10 years ago with the same doctor and he still has 20/20 vision. My sister had it done there as well about 1 year ago and she is also very happy about the outcome. And for me its been one month since my surgery and I see perfect. you can really tell they are the best at what they do. Went for a consultation last Thursday and it went so well that I just called and booked my lasik surgery next Friday! My boyfriend had his procedure done here and although he's super good I was soooooo scared. I feel much better after going in! I first visited this office after hearing numerous commercials on the radio and after visiting multiple other LASIK locations in the SGV for consultations. I was reluctant to use them at first bc they were such a big company but I figured a consultation couldn't hurt and I'm so glad I did!! Natali and the rest of the staff at the Pasadena office was great. Natali explained everything about the surgery, exactly what happens on the day of surgery and was even there the day of my surgery. All of my appointments I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time and I can now see 20/15 without any sort of glasses or contacts. I'd definitely recommend Laser Eye Center to anyone thinking about getting LASIK. read more

I bought a Groupon for this, $1800. I called them before I purchased the Groupon and asked if that covered everything, including post-op care. I was told it did. I just went, did my whole consultation (left work early and was made to wait in the waiting room for 45 minutes because they over scheduled themselves). After all the test and watching a video (which the machine died while I was watching it because they hadn't charged the battery) they sent someone in to go over all of the possible complications and side-effects, as well as the cost. I mentioned my Groupon and was told, "Oh, I don't know why we still offer a Groupon, that's for our old, blade technology. You don't need that, you'd get the blade-free." And proceeded to tell me that then it will be $3600. I told her it was very misleading and I wasn't pleased and would have to think about actually scheduling surgery with them after that experience. She then couldn't explain all of the side-effects/complications on the sheet I was supposed to be initialing and was trying to rush me out of the office. I requested a refund from Groupon. The sad thing is that their price is still cheaper than the office recommended to me by my regular eye doctor and if they had just been more honest from the outset I probably would have booked with them but now I don't know that I can trust them. Bad business practice, if the Groupon doesn't cover what you offer you shouldn't be on Groupon. read more
