HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. HONG I searched Yelp for a top opthamologist in Pasadena, CA and Dr. Hong was listed, and his profile photo looked so friendly, so I chose his practice. Kim was so kind and helpful in making my appointment within a few weeks, and she gave me a friendly reminder phone call one day before my appt which was more personable than a text message. I arrived on the day of my exam to a pleasant, clean, and tidy medical office. William is the back office medical assistant to Dr. Hong, and he is so professional, and thorough in his eyesight vision exams which were performed before Dr.Hong entered the exam room. Dr. Hong then arrived to examine my eyes, and he is extremely experienced, knowledgable, and scientific in his assessment of my vision and strategy for correction of my nearsightedness. He spends so much time with his patients and explains eye anatomy and physiology and performs eye exams based upon the patient's age and medical history. He has patience and a kind bedside manner. They have a large selection of sample eyeglass frames and I immediately saw the frame that was right for me and William helped me to order it with lenses at a low cost. They also arranged to order sample contact lenses to wear as a trial to see if the prescription and fit were adequate before I ordered an entire box. Dr. Jeffrey C. Hong to the rescue!!! Last month, my left eye was infected. It was red, slightly burning and swollen. Glamourous, right??? Located inside the Huntington Medical Plaza, which was conveniently located right across from my primary care physician's building. Once you enter the parking structure, the Huntington Medical Plaza is right behind it. Parking: Enter on Bellefontaine Street. Paid parking structure to your right with the building number "800" in large green colors. Otherwise, there's free street parking if you can find one. I was lucky enough to find street parking on both my visits. I tried scheduling an appointment with my original Ophthalmologist, but her office informed me that she was on vacation for two weeks and there was no backup Ophthalmologist available in case her clients needed her. I then tried calling my Optometrist's office, but they were closed on Thursdays, urgh! That's when I turned to my trusty Yelp. I started Yelping down the line of the closes Ophthalmologists near me and either they were booked up or the Ophthalmologist was out of the office. With one last attempted, Dr. Hong's team came to my rescue, yay!!! Yolanda, the front desk receptionist was awesome! She was polite, professional and was able to schedule me that same day, woohoo!!! I came in, filled out the necessary medical paperwork, paid my copay and was able to see Dr. Hong afterwards. Another female staffer, who also assisted me on my follow up visit was sweet and professional too. Dr. Hong was nice, professional and very straightforward with trying to diagnosis my left eye. He asked me questions on how it happened, checked my eyes, eyelids and then came to a diagnosis. He then prescribed me steroid eyes drops that I had to use for the next two weeks while wearing glasses. Four days later, I followed up with Dr. Hong to see how my eyes were reacting to the steroid drops. It was working, though I did mentioned that my left eye was slightly blurrier than my right eye. Dr. Hong assured me that it will go away once my left eye healed and it did! The steriod drops worked wonderfully! Dr. Hong gave me the green light to have my eyes dilated the following week with my Optometrist and I passed with flying colors, yay! By the end of April, my left eye was completely healed and it was crystal clear again. I am back to wearing contacts and alternating with glasses at night. Also, using the artificial tears to keep my eyes moist and refreshed either during the day or before bedtime. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Hong for any eye troubles that you might encounter. Dr. Hong is one of very few doctors I've encountered who is knowledgeable/competent as well as genuine. He's not upsell-y and doesn't try to promote weird new "medical" products like I've experienced with previous ones. His bedside manners aren't what you would consider the most chirpy upbeat kind but is more than pleasant enough. I don't need a doc who can sing me a whole song, just one who can solve my problem. Very straight forward and competent. I could see the complaints with the staff but it's gotten a lot better. Would recommend! read more

Dr. Hong himself is a fine physician. Unfortunately, he surrounds himself with unprofessional staff in the Suite 219 office. My husband & I had a similar experience as Jenny I. The accounting is in a shambles. Trying to get information about your order for glasses or contacts is nightmarish. Attempting to pick up your order will result in multiple sessions of futility. I don't even know where to start. The staff here is horrible. You will always be the one following up or chasing for your glasses or contacts. They will never return your calls or be the first to call you. I went in and got my check up. Placed an order for glasses and contacts. The contacts will be for the samples first. 2 weeks later i did not hear back from anyone. I called the office and the front desk lady said they called, (which they haven't). She then said ok you can come pick it up. i picked up my sample contacts and glasses. Tried it on for 2 weeks . I then called the office to place an official contacts order. When i called to do that the front desk lady said she was too busy and to call back later. I called back later and then spoke with Sarah who handles the sales for contacts. She didin't remember that i already paid for the contacts and was trying to get me to pay again. I placed the order for the contacts and she said she'll give me a call when they come in. 2.5 weeks later no call. I called th office. it goes straight to voicemail. Then i called again 3 days later, ( this is around 3 weeks now). I just told them to mail it to me given they are only open during the week day from 8 am to 5pm. It's actually difficult to go to them during work hrs. Anyways she said they will mail it and will call me when they mail it. That was 5 days ago. Mind you i live 5 mins away from the office so in no way does it take more than 5 days. Today i'm trying to call the office . Their answering machine goes straight to voicemail.
