Came here a few weeks ago for lunch with my colleagues. Jean was our server and she was absolutely amazing. She was friendly and knew a lot about the food, the history of the restaurant and she was spot on with her recommendations. My friend was mortifying us, ordering things that WERE NOT ON THE MENU! We were all laughing and apologizing, but both Jean and her manager accommodated her requests and she loved her steak sandwich. I had a cauliflower salad with salmon that was *chef's kiss*. One of THE best meals I've ever had! It's a perfect date night spot with a variety of seafood and land food options for every diner. There are many small plate and appetizer choices that you could make that a cozy shareable experience, or sample a few and grab an amazing entree. The place was pretty busy on a Friday night and they had an event in one of the rooms, but we were able to snag a seat at the bar. Reservations might be a good idea too, if you want to avoid having to wait for a table. Food was cooked beautifully and served relatively quickly after ordering. The ONLY thing I was missing was a masterful mixology cocktail menu. They have a couple options, but nothing that screamed particularly unique, which I found strange since the food was so creative. Here, I can't complain about anything, but it didn't hit that mark for truly the best restaurant in town. Value: 5/10. $100 for two people to receive food that was hitting the "pretty good" taste bar was okay in my opinion. I have spent half as much on better food around town. My "seafood" pasta had one scallop and 3 shrimp. Atmosphere: 9/10. A little loud when busy, but good space for you to take someone for a celebration. Elegant dining. Service: 7/10. Slow but quality service. Wish they could have visited more often for our needs but it was good none the less. True food quality: 7/10. I think I just ate a new favorite at Oceano! I ordered the Sweet Corn Cappeletti as something different from meat or seafood. To tell you the truth, the entree was great without those (although you can add shrimp or scallops). Wow! It was very tasty and filling. Service is impeccable here. And the restaurant was nicely decorated for the holidays with a nice selection of music playing in the background. The restaurant has a very cozy, intimate feel and the food was delicious. They bring a small tasting of the focaccia bread to the table and it was not only soft but with a hint of sweetness. For starters, I ordered the salmon ceviche and the meatballs (recommended by my server). The ceviche was good totally amazing; they had me once I saw green apple and fennel. It's ALWAYS a welcome sight to see a new high-end restaurant open in Midlothian Village. Oceano occupies the old Crab Louie spot and I'm glad this location is buzzing again with good food. My wife and I went here in early July for dinner. We started with bread and olive oil and let me tell you, the bread is A+ delicious. It's so dang soft and it dips very well. Next up was the ceviche which was another A+! Then came the octopus also known as the charred polpo. I'd have to rate the charred polpo a B- as the cook could have been better. The presentation was stellar but the cook was a bit off. The calamari was the worst dish of the night, solid C+ on that. No worries though because the meatball rounded things back to A+ levels. Overall, the night was a smashing success and I would highly recommend visiting Oceano for a romantic dinner for two. Amazing food and service. We went for my birthday dinner and sat at the bar for the happy hour menu with the intention of getting a dining room seat after some apps and drinks but ended up staying at the bar for the whole evening because the bartender Jamel was so great! He was great to talk to and genuinely made our evening. Happy hour was fantastic, with $6 off most of their small plates and great deals on drafts and cocktails. Plus they give you free tres leches cake for your birthday, and it was delicious! We will definitely be back! read more

Incredible food, relaxing atmosphere, and great staff. This is a must visit in the Richmond Area. It is a mix of Spanish, Colombian, and Mexican food. It has a great mix of land and sea dishes. Everyone of tapas we tried were unique and perfectly cooked. We tried the empanadas, ceviche, gambas, calamari, and the lobster mac n cheese. Each one was incredible but the 2 standouts are the gambas and the mac n cheese. The drinks were fresh and well balanced. While all the cocktails we tried were good, the mojito was the standout. This was a hard place for me to review. Some of the experience was good but the visit as a whole was not. The atmosphere was clean and modern. The menu was in my opinion all over the place with option and flavors. Some Cuban, some Asian and as a whole didn't make sense. Not a lot of offerings and everything was overpriced. Service was not great. I can't tell if they are inattentive to let patrons relax and not be rushed or if it just stinks. We didn't get the extra chips we asked for, we couldn't get their attention and there were fruit flies in our cup of wine that were hard to miss The food was ok. Again for the price, I expected better. We got the ceviche appetizer that literally only came with 3 stale tortilla chips. It was probably the best thing we ate: The bread basket was a beer bread type and stale. The oysters were fine but you only get cocktail sauce and lemon. No crackers or horseradish. The tamale was good for the main entree. The rockfish dish was horrible and I sent it back. The fish was overcooked and bone dry and the broccoli rabe tasted like it was cooked in cleaning fluid. Oceano never fails to exceed our expectations! First of all, they added Gluten-Free icons to dishes on the expanded menu... Thank you so very much! Not only are they serving dinner, but have now opened up for brunch on Saturday and Sunday! We had Roasted Cauliflower, Sweet Potato Crab bisque and Gambas Al Ajillo (garlic shrimp) for starters. Because I'm GF, our server, Josue, had hand-made corn tortillas made to eat with the shrimp and it's delicious buttery, garlic, white wine reduction. The Sweet Potato soup had a generous amount of Lumped Crabmeat! And the combination of flavors and textures in the roasted cauliflower with the fennel, pistachios, raisins and cauliflower was mouthwatering! For drinks we had Maria's Margarita and the specialty white Sangria. Both were the best we've ever tasted! Dinner was the Grilled Salmon with mashed plantains, spinach and mango salsa, as well as the Bolognese with house-made pasta! Both were delicious! The salmon was cooked to perfection and practically melted in my mouth. The fresh pasta was outstanding and the sauce was meaty, thick and rich having slow-cooked for several hours! With the sheer amount of exceptional food, we went home with leftovers to enjoy the next day! We've been to Oceano many times and always are surprised at how much we enjoy ourselves and the food experience! A friend and I went to Oceano for lunch as we have many times before. This time was disappointing. The ambiance is very nice, and the food was delicious. I ordered a crab cake sandwich which I asked to have no bun and to substitute a small salad for the French fries. The menus price was $18. I enjoyed the salad with one small crab cake on top, but when the bill came, it said $18 plus $10 for the salad. I reminded the waiter that I had asked for a substitution, not an additional salad. He left and came back with my menu and another menu that said crab cake sandwich $28 But my menu said $18. He allowed that the printing was bad on my menu. I wasn't offered any compensation or an apology. I won't be returning. I feel this is very poor customer service. read more

We had a great time at Oceano last night! Many of us had been to the restaurant that used to occupy this spot and it's very different inside. Very light and airy in comparison. Their menu is very eclectic which was great for our group of 5 who all like different stuff. We started with a few appetizers. The Fritto Misto, meatballs and seared scallops. I could even get a picture because they were gone in seconds. All very good! Our table ordered the Tagliatelle All'Arrabbiata, the Fish stew (it had a brilliant name I can't remember) and fish tacos. We dined here for our first time last night, New Years Eve. They were double booked so the reservation I made a month ago was a waste of time as we still had to wait 25mins for a table. The food was OK but extremely overpriced for what it's worth. We had shrimp cocktail, which were just 5 pieces of shrimp laid on a plate with a spoonful of cocktail sauce on the plate. The empanadas were delicious but super small, just 2 of them. I had the risotto and it was way undercooked and crunchy. My partner has salmon and it was ok. We had made reservations for a large party and most of the people ended up flaking last minute. For those of us that did show up, it was such a phenomenal experience! From the moment we walked in the doke, we were greeted warmly and shown where we would be dining. Our waiter and one of the managers were phenomena, answering all of our questions and making recommendations based on what we were asking, as this was the first time any of us had dined at Oceano. Hit this place for the first time last night and had a fabulous dinner. There were four of us and everyone was raving about our dinner choices. A somewhat disappointing second visit to Oceano despite my former experience. Primarily, our service was lacking .. the server admitted they were not familiar with the offerings and this lack of attention to detail resounded through the remainder of the evening. Ceviche was fresh and lovely.. would recommend. Oysters though fried perfectly were so so small.... is there a shortage of well sized oysters? Our party was divided on the jumbo lump crab small plate...basically a crab mac and cheese. Half of us loved it...other half was underwhelmed. The Fritto Misto was lovely although there were no shrimp served on our plate as indicated in the menu. The crab dip.. well pretty much a thumbs down. This dish was all about the cream cheese with just a hint of crabmeat flavor. No 'hit me' spice or anything...probably the most disappointing dish. The salmon entree with mashed plantain and broccolini were delicious and perfectly done, although did not match the spinach reference on the menu. Dessert was limited to Tres leches and Tiramisu... so we ordered both and both were delightful. Overall, I think Oceano should not be comfortable with their offerings... this down swing in consistency since my last visit and the lack of specials is going to negatively impact repeat business. read more

We were a larger group so I can understand how that slows things down a bit but the wait times between ordering our drinks, appetizers, entrees, and then receiving any of those items was unreasonably long. Really liked the menu and had a hard time choosing what to eat. Settled on the gambas and the fish tacos so I could try two things. The shrimp were really good. They were perfectly cooked and the sauce was great. Could have used more bread for the amount of sauce though. The fish tacos were ok. I appreciated the fresh tortillas although they were a little too dry. The fish was kind of fishy which I don't usually find with mahi mahi and the slaw on top didn't have a ton of flavor. Tried some of the fried calamari and that was really good. Not at all chewy. The crab Mac and cheese was really rich and didn't seem to have a ton of crab but tasted good. Limoncello martini and the sangria were tasty. I would definitely go back to try other things but would not go with a big group. read more

We had old fashioned's w/ Four Roses bourbon, focaccia bread with dipping oil, oysters on the half shell, cauliflower salad, seafood fettuccini w/ shrimp, calamari and scallops and a delicious black cod dish. The first time I visited Oceano, I knew I had to come back. My husband and I had gone for a surprise birthday dinner for him and the entire experience was top-notch. From the professional service to the vibrant atmosphere, it was the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion. We had an assortment of dishes ranging from scallops to branzino, but my personal favorite was the salmon w/ spinach and mashed plantains with mango salsa. Everything was so flavorful and delicious, we were already planning our return trip. Our second visit was equally as enjoyable. Fabulous dining & partying experience! I recently hosted a birthday party for 40 guests and it was a totally amazing evening from beginning to end! The wait staff was " Johnny on the spot" with drink orders and passed hors d'oeuvres. Drinks were not skimpy with alcohol and the appetizers were steaming hot and scrumptious. We had fried oysters, meatballs, shrimp and crab cakes to die for! Dinner, beginning with salad and followed by perfectly prepared entrees, was timely and just as delicious. Guests chose and dined on either Alaskan Salmon, Prime Rib, Shrimp & Grits, Chicken Alfredo, or Spinach Stuffed Pasta. All of the pastas and bread are made in house and wonderful. Everything about our event was enhanced not only by the outstanding service and delicious food but the continued monitoring during the evening by the manager to be sure there was nothing missing or anything more the restaurant could provide. I could never recommend Oceano without my adding that the owner and management of this fine restaurant made the entire experience easy and exceptional. We have lived in Midlo for 2 years now and I have been eyeing this restaurant for a special occasion for my husband. He loves seafood. We came on 4/7/24 for his birthday. 5 pm dinner reservations. Pleasantly surprised that the atmosphere provided no strong odor of seafood and was overall pleasant. Also, not a single complaint regarding the food. It was all excellent. UNFORTUNATELY the service was so horrible that the atmosphere and food became irrelevant. We had made reservations a week or two before and came in early for dinner, however we still managed to get the bar attendant as our server. Black hair, bangs and pigtails. Rude, no personality and absolutely did nothing for us. We practically had to beg for refills. Meanwhile, other tables were being waited on hand and foot. One table even got a birthday cake/candle dessert brought to them. I was clear when we sat down we were celebrating my husbands birthday and she did not even say happy birthday. No matter how excellent the food or atmosphere will not return because the service was unforgettable, rude and disrespectful especially for a restaurant of this caliber. read more
