Great lunch!! I was exhausted after going to the Richmond Symphony Designer House. My meal was just as exciting. Had the most tender branzino (whole fish). Everything on the plate had its own distinct textures and flavors. Even had leftovers. (This never happens to me with fish.) My friend had the seafood paella. Beautiful dish. Lots of different kinds of seafood distributed amongst the flavorful rice. I hate how at some restaurants you have to search for the seafood. Service was great. THE COMPLIMENTARY BREAD IS DELIGHTFUL. I found this restaurant on yelp and decided to give it a try impromptu on a Wednesday night. No reservations but I was able to be seated immediately and was given complimentary herb crusted bread with oil/balsamic vinegar mixture for dipping. The bread was very tasty however the olive oil was very "oily" and overpowering flavor wise. I ended up pouring most of the olive oil out and leaving the balsamic vinegar for dipping and that did the trick. The bread was very light and airy. Highly recommend 10/10! I ordered the Maria's Margarita ($14) for a beverage. I did request to substitute the orange juice for pineapple juice. Not sure if this significantly changed the profile of the drink but I anticipated it being sweeter than it was. It was just okay, nothing spectacular. I likely wouldn't order it again. I ordered two entrees: crabcake ($25) and chicken Alfredo ($24). The alfredo felt a little elevated with mafaldine noodles in lieu of traditional fettuccine. I wanted to love this dish but it lacked flavor and seasoning. When I added salt it definitely tasted much better and was more enjoyable. Some pieces of chicken texture was off and hard. The second entree, the crabcake was flavorful, but very different than any other crabcake I've ever tasted. It had 2 sauces on the side: chipotle aioli and eggplant puree. The sauces were competing interests. Also the makeup of the crabcake felt like there was more breading base in place of actual crabmeat. Additionally, I was very surprised it only came with one small crabcake especially for $25. That price seems a little steep, in my opinion. I wanted so much to love this place especially with all the good reviews but it fell a little flat and left me disappointed overall. The food arrived pretty quickly and it didn't seem busy. My server John was very friendly, helpful and attentive so the service was great, no complaints. The venue is absolutely beautiful and very intimate. They have 2 sides and the bar area is located in the middle. Oh and before I forget, the hostess Irving was very sweet, super helpful and appreciative of the feedback I gave directly to him about my experience overall. My total was $66.78 and with tip my overall bill came to $80. I'm undecided on whether I will be returning. I need to think on it some more. Came here for Mother's Day. I know I'm writing this review a little late, but honestly I just forgot about it until I was going through pictures on my camera lol. Either way, the waiter we had was so sweet and super attentive. This hidden gem on Midlothian is a 10/10! The service is impeccable. From enteri to exiting the staff was very attentive and catered to our group of four. The food is delicious. I had a special that included salmon, scallops, and risotto. Both were cooked to perfection. Sometimes restaurant salmon is overcooked, but at Oceano that is not the case. I ate every morsel. The ambiance is very cozy and chic. It's the perfect date night or birthday dinner space. read more

Girls night out and we wanted to splurge so Oceano was chosen. Overall Oceano offers a pleasant atmosphere. The space gives an upscale cozy vibe and the service is friendly. We each ordered a drink, an appetizer and a small plate. Somehow the entree menu didn't interest us. My part of the bill came to $80 (including tips). I think it's a bit overpriced. The octopus had been one of my fav tapas dishes all over the world. This one wasn't. The meat was mushy and perhaps not the most fresh. The garnish feels lack luster. The fish and chips received similar feedback - seems under seasoned. For the fish taco I wish I'd asked for grilled fish because while I give credit for the efforts to make a loaded taco, I find the fish was lost and confused. My fav was the mussels. Good flavoring and fresh mussels. The limoncello martini was also a delight. While it's a good experience I think there is room for stronger performance both in the kitchen and the wait staff. read more

Came here with a group of girlfriends and was seriously impressed! The steak tips were tasty, but the standouts for me were the rockfish and the tres leches, absolutely delicious. I ordered the Oceano 75, which was a refreshing twist on a classic French 75, with a brighter lemon flavor that I really enjoyed. I just realized that I have never given Oceano a review. I've been here on more than a few occasions at this point and it is so due a review. Honestly, everything I have ever tried is absolutely delicious. Sometimes I wonder why they are not busier or packed. There were good amount of tables but I just feel like it should be more packed for a Friday evening. They need to consider decorating for the holidays, as they have such a great space to decorate. Napa down the road in Westchester decorated for the first time and their business is amazing for the holidays. At any rate my son had the Angus Burger, my husband had the salmon and I had the sweet corn cappelletti. All was delicious and we cleaned our plates. The stand out was our starter, we got the Leche de Tigre ceviche which was amazing. That could've been a meal itself. In hindsight I wish I did get it as a meal and then got some of their she crap soup special with caviar lol! I've dined at Oceano twice and I will say, if you order strategically, items that are a safe bet (steak, shrimp, etc.) you will be in good shape. I like to stay away from the oysters and mussels, which I find to be fishy. It's not a spectacular dining experience and the service is usually very slow. But if you're looking for a decent meal in the immediate area, Oceano isn't a bad choice. The interior is nice as well as the table scape and you'll be able to hear and enjoy the company of your guests comfortably. I do enjoy the shrimp appetizer and some of the pastas and steak. Some of the items I wouldn't recommend are cocktails, paella, oysters, and mussels. I may return, but may not and I am okay either way. read more

One of THE best meals/Valentine's Day dinners I've had! I have driven past Oceano countless times and when searching for options for Valentine's Day dinner earlier this year I wanted to find something that was relatively convenient due to my late work schedule. We were able to secure a reservation for Valentine's Day at 8:15 PM and they also had reservations that started even after that. Upon arriving, the restaurant was packed as was the bar area it seemed very lively, which is always a good sign. Once we were seated, I was a little bit nervous though because no one came to acknowledge us as our server for the first ~ 5 to 10 minutes. And it just so happened that there were two other servers in the area one of which that I stopped and asked if he was our server and his reply was "I can be". So starting this review off with a huge s/o to Jamell (sp) because he was the best! He gave us great feedback on the menu items and made sure that our drinks tasted amazing and he was so so so personable. Also, there was a woman who was walking around the dining area (I assumed that maybe she was a manager or something) But I know she had on a cap and a maybe a denim apron. But she checked on us once as well and I did appreciate that. I loved my red sangria and I was told that it's a special house blend/mix and I had two of those. My fiancé ended up not liking his because he said it was too fruity for him (he only got it to match me lol) so he switched to a jack and Coke I think and it was perfect. If you like a nice strong drink like us it's perfect. Now for the food... I was blown away. I will absolutely say that the website for this restaurant does not do the food any justice in my opinion. Because when we were researching my fiancé and I were a little bit nervous as to whether or not we would leave the restaurant full, especially with their primary focus being on seafood. However, they fooled us and I am so glad and I cannot wait to return. My legit only complaint about the food was about one of our appetizers. We ordered the Fritto misto and it was supposed to be a mix of calamari and fried shrimp and we only had one fried shrimp on our plate. I love seafood, I love fried shrimp but I also love calamari so it really was not a huge deal to me . But that is literally the only "complaint"that I have but it was fried to perfection and the sauce that they provided took it over the top! We even used the sauce for the Colombian empanadas that we ordered and chef's kiss. The lamb sliders were another hit. The slaw with the lamb was a perfect combination. It tasted so fresh like honestly the kitchen staff, the chefs, perfection no complaints, no notes, perfection! The entrees! So my fiancé was trying to step out of his box and order something different because 9 times out of 10 he's ordering steak. He decided to go for the salmon. and again he was worried that it wasn't going to be enough food, but we were clearly fooled. It was a nice hearty piece of fish. Now that plantain mash was sooooo good, we love plantains we love Mofongo like it was perfect. The salsa on top of the salmon literally set off the whole entire dish. As soon as I looked at the menu and Jamell confirmed I knew I was ordering the paella and I have no regrets. The paella could easily be split between two people to share as an entrée. However, I enjoy food. I am a foodie and I eat a lot, so I just shared a couple of spoonfuls lol. However, I did take a little bit home and Jamell was right... the leftovers tasted just as good as they did when I ate it in person. It was like an explosion or a flavor party in every bite. The chicken breast was moist. The shrimp were good. The chorizo was good. The scallops were cooked to perfection. I don't even know how you cook all the things that have to be cooked at different temperatures and they all taste so good but they did it and I was amazed. I can't wait to go back to Oceano. It was a Monday evening so the restaurant was slow but that was good for us because we could make a last minute reservation! The service was great! We enjoyed our waiter's recommendations. First, they brought delicious warm bread served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. It was just what we needed to start. I had the salmon and my friend had the Charleston shrimp and grits. The dishes were both amazing! I love the quaint restaurant. It's larger than it look and can seat larger parties comfortably. The ONLY reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because they were drilling in the bar area next to where our table was while we were eating. This should have been done on off hours. We've been here three or four times now and consider Oceano a new favorite. It is WORTH a little extra for couples and small groups looking for a guaranteed to be tasty and refined experience. The staff really seem to try hard to provide consistent and personalized service. The specials are literally always delicious. To get a little more into the details: they have several gluten free options. Their baked oysters with the chipotle aioli and Parmesan crust are truly unique for oysters, and I highly recommend them. The meatball was so flavorful, and a nice little appetizer portion for one or two. If I had to nitpick, I'd say there is not much dish to the ceviche, the broth is the primary ingredient (though the chips are nice). The paella was also not as flavorful as I'd hoped it would be, and it's for these two reasons that I wanted to subtract half a star (I can't seem to push the button so it's still getting five stars oops). That being said, literally everything else about everything else on the menu has been seriously top quality, you'd be amiss to pass this place up. We will go back, I hope many times. I run a monthly dining out group and the January outing was to Oceano. It was recommended by one of the group members as a place we should try. They were easily able to accommodate my party of 8. Everyone complimented the beautiful space and incredible menu choices. I ordered the fritto misto and the fried oysters. I was thrilled with my dinner choice as those oysters were fried to perfection. Everyone else was very happy with what they ordered as well. We had a terrific dining experience. The service was friendly but a tad spotty (half the table had food before the other half finally received theirs, kind of thing). But nothing that would prevent me from returning. read more

The shrimp salad was wonderful, very fresh and delicious. The dressing was light, complementing rather than overwhelming the salad ingredients. Service by Timothy was impeccable. We feel eager to return to try some of the other menu offerings due to his mouthwatering descriptions of what awaits us for another dining experience. And the ambience was wonderful with one exception: the music was too loud, and I had trouble hearing my lunch companion. Since I didn't ask for the music to be turned down, I assume I would have been accommodated, and did not factor that into my rating. Went here tonight for the first time after being huge fans of Maya in downtown, which sadly closed a year or two ago. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by multiple people, and felt super welcomed. Our server was knowledgeable, personable, and someone we really wanted to talk to lol. Very attentive. We ordered three small plates... to say it was shrimp, fish tacos and meatballs is to undersell this by a mile, but all three were scrumptious. The place is bigger than we'd thought but still has a vibe of a villa in Italy or maybe Spain, maybe not the smallest one but still felt welcoming. We always felt like we were having an intimate experience with the food. When we were on our way out, we had some easy banter with our server, and when we left at least three other people said good night / thanks for coming. To me, this is indicative of a restaurant that has trained its team well. They should be proud of what they're doing. It was impressive, no exaggeration. The ambiance is very romance, intimate, and quiet. The pricing is a bit on the expensive side. However, the food is delicious. It's totally worth it. My boyfriend got the seafood paella and I got a pasta with shrimp. Both extremely delicious and portions were huge, enough to satiate. Now for the drinks, the waitress suggested the lemon drop to me, which I thought tasted like rubbing alcohol and did not enjoy lol. I don't know if somebody called out but he was bussing tables, topping off water, taking orders, checking back etc. and so forth, more than I normally see weight staff do. Atmosphere was nice, food was fantastic. Through no fault of Jamell, service was a little bit slower than what we're used to but it was a busy Friday night and we typically don't go quite as higher end. I'm not really sure if places like that kind of build in that slower pace so it's more of an experience than just eating dinner. I was glad they had a few non-seafood options. We decided to try this new restaurant to celebrate my birthday. TLDR: It was disappointing and we don't plan to return. Surprising and disappointing given all of the great reviews I read. I will start with the fact that the renovation of the old Crab Louie's is great! The inside of the restaurant is fresh and bright. It got loud but not bothersome. I had reservations and we were seated immediately upon arrival; however in the reservation it asked if we we're celebrating a special occasion and I had put yes a birthday. They never acknowledged that celebration or the birthday at all tonight. The staff was friendly, though didn't notice some of the disappointment. The big disappointment was the food. It was inconsistent. We had a couple of good things, but most were disappointing. The menu isn't huge, but nobody would care if the food is good. The disappointing: The cocktail menu is small and not exciting. I assume they have a full bar. I typically like to try a fun cocktail, but nothing on their cocktail menu appealed to me so I settled for a glass of white wine. They lost money bc when I find a fun cocktail I like, I will typically order a few. They do not have a regular tossed salad on the menu. My friend got the Caesar salad and barely touched it. He LOVES. Caesar salad, especially when they have fresh anchovies, so I asked if it wasn't good. He said the anchovies tasted like soap?! Not salty at all and he just couldn't eat the salad after that. The frito misto was very over breaded. We couldn't taste the calamari because of the crunchy breading that was way too crunchy and too much for the seafood. They also didn't give enough aioli for the amount of food and breading. The crab dip was just ok. Seemed more mayonnaise-y and bland. My friend's tuna (which was the special) was a bit over cooked. My scallops on the risotto were slightly undercooked. The good: The sweet potato crab bisque was probably the best thing I had all night. I was surprised to find Apple in there! It had a touch of spice and great flavor. My husband's paella was the hit of the night. It's big enough to serve 3-4 people. The seafood was cooked well. The rice didn't get crispy as one typically expects with paella but the flavor was good. My risotto wasn't bad. It was wild mushroom risotto, though there were not many mushrooms. Again it was a large dish of rice. My friend had the spinach ravioli. He said they were very good, though it was a small serving. We shared 2 orders of tres leches cake for dessert. They only had this and a wine poached pear option, which was surprising. The tres leches was good. The food was inconsistent at best. The service was friendly and she kept our water filled. Nothing is calling to me to come back. I am disappointed because I was hoping to find a new fish and seafood place since we lost Pescados in the area. Off to find somewhere else to try! read more

The ambiance is calm, serene - like an upscale cozy waterfront property. The food however was disappointing. We shared the the grilled octopus which my husband somewhat enjoyed but it was not for me. For our mains he got a fish dish (can't remember which one) but complained that it was slimy which was a major turn off. I got the risotto dish with scallops added. The risotto was all a gloopy texture and tasted of just lemon; the scallops were grainy and not flavorful. The service was good, she was kind and accommodating.
