If I could give this 'restaurant' zero stars, I would. I don't know how this place has customers. We walked in and waited for about 15 mins to be greeted by the hostess and then we were seated in the completely empty dining room since the porch is reserved for reservations only (even though there were open tables). After we were seated we were given sweet dinner rolls with oil and gigantic chunks of garlic floating in it. The most disgusting thing I've ever seen and they don't go together. Then we got our salad which was made of spinach that was limp and tasted like it was a week old. After that got flatbreads thinking it was the safest thing to eat. I don't know how you could possibly mess up a flatbread but it wasn't even edible and tasted HORRIBLE. we couldn't get out of there fast enough. It was nearly empty when we came in for lunch. It didn't take long to find out why. Service was ridiculously slow. 15 minutes to get our drinks after ordering. When we hit 25 minutes with no salad, we reminded server that we had ordered a salad. Off she went, and came back with it. Crab/shrimp cake was blackened. Then it took ten minutes to get the check. After we asked for it, server proceeded to take orders from a table of eight. Overall, restaurant has sad and tired vibe. But it does provide a parking lot, which is rare for area. I'm an Eggs Benedict snob and consider a good Eggs Benedict with homemade Hollandaise a 5 out of 10. The Lobster Benedict at Aleatha's scored a 10. Perfect textures all around. English muffin was crisp, egg yolks were runny while whites were not, and hash browns were soft inside with a browned shell. It is unfortunate that I write this review because I was there twice, the first being a wonderful experience (7/22) and the second (7/23 between 2:15 and 2:30pm) being the definitive reason for my rating. Why? A RACIST SERVER who works the porch of the Aleathea Restaurant section. She will only serve you if you are White. Don't go if you are Black or in an Interracial relationship. We arrived and sat down next to some people who were leaving. They appeared to be locals as they chatted with the server in a familiar fashion. It was peak beach time and the porch was virtually empty. She serviced the hell out of a family of three and a pair of ladies all the while shooting icy glares at me and my husband. She paced back and forth asking if they had everything they needed. After about 15 minutes, a group comes in with OUTSIDE food and OUTSIDE drinks & snacks. She initiated conversation with them and invited them up to the porch. Again, she shot my husband and I an icy glare. To everyone she was sweet as pie and extremely talkative to emphasize how much she wanted my husband and I to know she wasn't willing to take our order. I asked her for a menu and she looked at me as if she wanted to stab me in the chest. That is when it was time to go! The owner was understanding and apologetic, and I actually believe that she did not want us to have that experience. BUT I feel it is my responsibility to warn people that there is a racist woman who threatens to ruin your visit to Inn of Cape May. BEWARE! read more

We had heard quite a few " very good comments " about ALEATHEA'S Restaurant .. but .. very good does not do this establishment the justice it deserves . Friendly bartenders , accommodating & pleasant waitstaff , comfortable dining area ... & ... outstanding . The menu was very interesting .. & .. offered a variety of options . The brie puffed pastry was excellent , the carpaccio was the best my wife had ever had , the grouper was prepared perfectly & the crab cakes were dynamite. First trip to Cape May and picked this place based on Yelp reviews - with some hesitation because of some bad reviews. Well... Our waitress, Dawn, was wonderful. The menu was great. Our service was superb, and the food was excellent though larger proportions than necessary. The hotel for which the restaurant resides was built in the 1800's. Unfortunately the restaurant's food also tastes like it is still using it's overstock from the 1800's as well. There are much, much better places to eat in Cape May than at this ghost of its former self of a restaurant. read more

Where do i begin! Wonderful place for gourmet dishes. Sitting and having dinner on an old Victorian porch with a view of the ocean and it's beautifully decorated room was a wonderful experience. The wait staff was pleasant, knowledgable, thank you to Dawn who made the dinner even more special. My husband had the roast duck and I had the grouper with a wonderful spinach salad. Everything was done just right with lots of flavor. During restaurant week you get all kinds of specials. It was so well worth the trip. We will be back!! read more

Very cute place in dt Cape May. It's a part of the inn art Cape May. We stopped in for dinner on Saturday night. Seemed busy but not crazy. We waited about 20 min for a table since we didn't have a reservation. We were seated by the window which was closed but still a bit chilly. Our waitress seemed busy, it took her about 20 min to bring our drinks but she got everything right. Kitchen seemed backed up a bit too but everything turned out yummy. Absolutely outstanding!!! Our waitress Dawn was so informative, pleasant and so accommodating. She and the other staff members are a true asset to restaurant. We chose to share the Prince Edward Island mussels prepared in a a red tomato sauce with a hint of blue cheese, a version we have never had before. Suffice it to say it was the best version ever! There wasn't a drop left in the serving dish which was sopped up with a warm fresh crusty roll. Our dinners included beautiful pan seared sea scallops in a beurre bland sauce and filet mignon topped with caramelized red onion, house made merlot Demi glaze with crumbled blue cheese and each included roasted asparagus and whipped potatoes. Both entrees were prepared and cooked to perfection! We had a steak knife however it cut easily with our butter knife. I keep referencing "our" because we shared everything! Too fabulous not to. Where do I even begin. Was in town last week with a party of 6. Decided to eat here for dinner due the the vast array of options for everyone in our group including a vegan. When looking for the menu we typed in Aleathea's Cape May, which brings up a website (http://www.aleatheas.com/). We loved the menu, loved the vegan options, and loved all the choices for the first seating menu. We made a reservation. We show up the night of our reservation about 7 minutes before 5, knowing they open at 5 but wanting to be on time. We are greeted at the front desk and told our server would not be over until at least 5. That's fine, odd to mention but fine. Eventually our server comes over and gives us menus, it's not at all the menu we saw online. Completely different. We bring up the confusion and our server snaps "we don't have access to that website anymore so that's not our menu anymore". I'm sorry....WHAT. I don't even know where to begin with this statement. I'm not sure how a restaurant can all of a sudden not be able to use their website, have nothing on the premise that mentions this, make no effort to say sorry for the confusion! and think this is normal. We decide to roll with the change, we all order a multi course meal per person (please note on the menu on their website it states one price but since that menu apparently only exists in an alternate universe, it was actually a different price with half the options once you arrive) The server is short and flat with her responses to our questions but that's okay at this point, we don't need a lot of fancy service. At one point rolls and butter is brought out. The butter has some seasoning and we are having a group discussion trying to pin point it, we ask the waitress to chime in and see what the flavor is, we get the response "I don't know it's from yesterday morning". So the dollops of butter have just been sitting on a plate for a day and half, okay sure, I can see how that might be a thing, but maybe don't tell your table that? We waited almost 20 minutes after asking for water refills to actually get the water. We are a large table, you can assume one bottle of water will only fill up 4 glasses once. Onto the food. Yikes. Not a single one of us liked our meal, or came even close to finishing it ( and we are all members of the clean plate club so it's saying a lot) Some of the items on our plates were literally so unrecognizable that even with multiple people trying some we still couldn't figure out what it was. We all left with 3/4 of our plate untouched, it was just so bad. I really can't think of a positive. The venue is cute? It was also freezing and most people inside were wearing their coats. Upon leaving I was still so baffled by the menu situation i did some research. If you type in the restaurant name, or click the auto pop up website button on google, or go to the website directly, that website apparently "does not work" and they have zero access to it (seriously though, what? how does this happen) if you google Inn of Cape May or go directly to that website (https://www.innofcapemay.com/) you can click around and get the menu that they offered us with updated items and prices (and to be frank, the old menu is leaps and bounds better, almost triple the amount of options) I truly cannot understand how a business can have a website, have used the website, own the website, and all of a sudden....can't get into the website. So bizarre, similar to mystery flavors on our plates. read more

This was our go to restaurant in cape May. We made reservations and were seated in the porch area. The service was very slow, took awhile to get drinks and forever to get appetizers. Unfortunately we were invaded by a bug that would not go away. When our food arrived after waiting we asked to be moved to a new table and the server just walked away. The chicken was terrible, could not even cut it. The beef was just ok. Bill for 2 almost $90. I don't expect we will ever go back. Very sad we used to enjoy it. read more

We came for the first seating which is definitely a bargain. We each had 3 courses & a glass of wine for $25. We sampled the sweet potato chips with a delicious blue cheese sauce, the Brie was so tasty with a really sweet berry sauce, the pumpkin soup tasted like pumpkin pie in a cup. For our entree we both had the panko grouper served with delicious sautéed spinach, risotto and crab meat. One of our kids a lobster & old bat flatbread that was very tasty. This a a beautiful restaurant with a great vintage feel. The ambience was perfect for our anniversary dinner and the food was great. They also have gluten free and vegetarian options. Aleathea's is within the Inn of Cape May. It was great to walk around the lobby, because they have some great antiques and a cute gift shop. There is even a great porch with rocking chairs and wicker furniture to hang out before or after dinner with your drinks. It was so relaxing on the porch, I didn't want to leave. My husband I split the mussels as an appetizer. When they were brought out, the kitchen already "split the order" into two plates. After being together for 10 years, we have no problem from sharing from the same plate! Even though that threw us off, they were good and we ate every single one. For entrees, I had a chicken dish, that was topped with crab. It was a very interesting combination, but it worked and was very delicious. My husband had the salmon, which had a great soy glaze and was very fresh. The portions were good for the price and even the bread was delicious! My only issues are that it is advertised being an oceanfront/view restaurant, and it is not. We are close (across the street) but we had a view of the Inn's pool, more that anything else. We also went on a Saturday evening, and there was not a piano player, as advertised. That wasn't a make it or break it thing for us in choosing this place, but I would recommend calling ahead to confirm that there is a performance that night, if you are looking to hear music. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and look forward to going back! read more

Second time here in 13 months... it keeps getting better. Amazing food... The chef has been here about 4 or 5 years, and is a culinary genius. The smashed garlic with bread is to die for. The sweet potato chips... I just died again. Perfect risotto and pork, the fish is super fresh... Don't ask for any substitutions off the standard menu offerings.Requested to substitute fruit or a side salad for french fries on the Pulled BBQ Pork sandwich. Was told you can substitute a starch for a starch. No offer to honor this request for an up-charge. No can do at this restaurant. Asked to speak with the manager who just reiterated the restaurant's standard policy and had no authority or recourse to do anything different. Manager was rude, disrespectful and helpless. Her attire and approach was very unprofessional. Ownership here needs to take a good look at their operational policies and floor management. Major improvement needed in customer relationship skills by the server and manager. We have been going to The Inn of Cape May, and Aleathea's restaurant every year, for 15 years now, for a family reunion. Last night, we were sadly disappointed. Although the food was excellent, there was not enough wait staff and we sat for almost an hour, before our wine was brought to us and an appetizer order taken. Dinner ended up being 2 1/2 hours and that was just shared appetizers, entrees and wait time. No one even had dessert. There was a show in the private room, but that should have prompted additional staff, not less. We'll still be back next year, but I hope that the service is more of what we have come to expect from this establishment. read more

We sat outside which was dog friendly and our server immediately brought out a bowl for our puppy. Aleathea's has a great menu with lots of delicious combinations to choose from. Unfortunately, the appetizer we wanted and the entre special both just had sold out. So it was on to option #2, which ended up being just as great. Aleathea's also gets a gold star for brining out a bruchetta type mix with the bread and having full and half portions. The mixed drinks are also great! We stumbled upon Aleathea's wandering down Beach Avenue. We were pleasantly surprised that they could seat us immediately on the porch. Three things are a real standout here. Very attentive but not soppy service. Very nice sized portions ( we order small portions and they were very substantial), and when you ordered a glass of wine, you actually got a full glass of wine. The pasta was perfectly done with your choice of add-ins like shrimp, chicken or crab meat. The pasta was cooked al dente and very nicely flavored. I like this place. I gave this 5 stars because globally I really liked it. It's comfortable, reasonably priced and can accommodate a mixed party (kids, adults, etc). Ate here because we were seeing a jazz set during jazzfest this weekend. They were extremely unorganized with seating to start. Staff was also rude and unapologizing for the long wait. Finally seated and it took a very long time for our waitress to even come to our table. Took our orders and didn't even bring our drinks for 1/2hr and only after we asked where they were. My mother and I have been coming here for years and it's just as delicious and quaint as ever. Aleathea's is inside the Inn of Cape May, which is beautiful in and of itself. The history here is unmatched. It's right across the street from the gorgeous beach, so you'll likely have a view as you enjoy your meal. Our favorite appetizer is the sweet potato chips with homemade blue cheese dipping sauce. The filet mignon is delicious and the food is always fresh. Cannot say enough good things about this place! This is a hotel restaurant. Spent about 50 dollars on three appetizers and entree. The fried flounder tacos was really good and big. I was initially turned off since they only have two but they were large and in charge. Fries were up to my standards. The fries Brie was a waste of money but the baked oysters definitely hit the spot. The lobster mac and cheese was good. It had a lot of chunks of lobster meat and definitely worth the price point. Overall service was slower than normal but you're on the shore. To be expected. Food was pretty tasty and they had free bread with roast garlic and olive oil. What's not to love about it. The food was excellent. I really like crab cakes but feel that ordering them can be extremely hit and miss. The lump crab cake was perfect here. The blueberry and lemon cheese cake again really made us smile and the creme brûlée was a great size really light and creamy and the sugar layer the perfect depth.
