We were extremely disappointed with our experience at Ocean 7. We were charged full price for a margarita that should have been part of happy hour. When we brought it to the manager's attention, she came over with a dismissive attitude and simply said the best she could do was take $2 off. She didn't apologize, make any effort to resolve the issue, or seem to care about keeping our business before walking away. We're locals who spend a lot of time and money in Cape May, but even if we were tourists, this is not how customers should be treated. People come here every summer and support local businesses, and good customer service should be a priority. Mistakes happen, but it's how they're handled that matters. Unfortunately, the poor attitude and lack of concern from management left a bad taste in our mouth. It's a shame because we normally come here every weekend off season as well. read more

We came to Ocean 7 for their happy hour. The day that we went, the weather wasn't the best, so we had to sit outside. I would have preferred to sit outside because they have a beautiful sitting area and you can see the ocean. The bartender we had was great. He was very attentive and had a great conversation with us. I had a spicy margarita, which was fresh and not with premade mix. We had the bbq quesadilla, which was only alright but for the price and we needed something to eat while drinking it was good. They had a singer with a guitar there and he was excellent. He was taking personal requests, played a few of his own songs, and his voice was excellent. He reminded me of Ed Sherran. read more

Met up with Family here for a mid week Dinner get together... stopped off first at the Bar where the ambiance was nice, friendly and the Drinks were well made and very tasty (even though I didn't imbibe)... moved then into the Dining Porch (fully covered and heated) and excellence continued... Hostess/ Server Addie was extremely cordial and friendly! We had the whole Place to ourselves but were not rushed out!! We went with Soups of NE Clam Chowder and French Onion which were both excellent (wish we had more) also Apple Pomegranate Salad was just as good!! Entrees were the Beef Ribs, Scallops, Shrimp Pasta, and Ravioli dishes... Everything was delicious and served piping hot! Preparation and flavor on all Entrees were exceptional!! Stayed the weekend at the Inn at Cape May with my mom for her birthday. My mom ordered a steak and when we asked for steak sauce, the waitress (70 yr old dark haired woman) brought us over a bottle of 8 mth old expired A1 sauce. When I pointed this out, she nastily said "that's all we have and it's not her fault it's expired". Of course, that didn't give us much confidence that the rest of what we were eating wasn't old or expired. My crab cakes were soft, mushy and tasteless. Overall the food was mediocre, not cheap and service was bad and unprofessional. If you're going to have a $58 steak on the menu, maybe make sure you have steak sauce. Do yourself a favor and eat at Congress Hall, we had a much better experience there- they know what hospitality is. read more

Went here for restaurant week and was disappointed. This place has a lot of things to improve in order to be considered fine dining. Our biggest complaint was on service. The restaurant was primarily empty. For drinks I had a water and my husband ordered a beer. After ten minutes of not receiving the beer we flagged down our server and she forgot to put it in. She promptly came over with a can of beer and a glass and opened it and incorrectly poured it in front of us. When being served entrees we noticed all servers had to ask who was eating what for every course. I am not used to seeing that at a fine dining establishment. The food portions were ample which was nice. We enjoyed the Caesar salad and egg rolls. The shrimp pasta was great. The pork chop was served cold. Although a large portion it was flavorless. At the end of the meal the server came back to state that she forgot our dessert order. She literally recommended both of the deserts and forgot the entire conversation. It wasn't a big deal but it's details like that that separate fine dining from the rest. We won't be back. There are too many other establishments in Cape May that are polished. It's a shame since we saw the potential and it's a great location with water views. The three stars reflected the quality of the food and portion size. read more

We were disappointed. It was a Saturday night. The place was busy but not packed. The kitchen must have been having an off night because everything took FOREVER to arrive to the table. We split a Cesar salad and the Romain was room temperature- not cold -so it had lost its crisp. I had the stuffed flounder which was very good but it was served with rice that was cold and tasted like it had been sitting for hours because it had started to dry out. The sautéed spinach was hot and good. My husband had another fish dish with beans and rice which he enjoyed. We went for a quiet evening dinner. The menu is essentially the exact same as the Porch Bar right outside. It was extremely loud inside from both the design of the restaurant and the number of children from the Inn above. The food was mediocre at best. My order was messed up and my fiancées skillet dish tasted so strongly of the metal leaching from the pan she couldn't finish it. For the price, there are many better places in the area. read more

I came here with some friends during a late summer trip to Cape May. We had reservations and waited about 10 minutes for a table; not bad. We had cocktails out on the patio while waiting. The cocktails were just alright; strong (yay) but the blend of flavors just wasn't done well (too sweet). The people tending bar weren't the friendliest. They were a bit snippy, even when I asked them where I should order (hello, COVID?) and where the bathrooms were. Things were better once we were seated. The seating was "indoor yet outdoor" -- it was indoor dining with the windows open, but I was ok with this since it was raining. Just FYI in case anyone is concerned re: COVID. The service was great and attentive. The appetizers that we got, caprese salad and crab cakes, were just alright and not super memorable. However, my friend and I split the braised short ribs special and we were absolutely blown away by how good it was. We would've probably licked the plate if that was deemed socially acceptable. We went for Thanksgiving 2024 and last year as well. While it was good last year, it was excellent this year! We had standard turkey fare and an order of prime rib. Loved the subtle seasonings in the turkey, gravy and stuffing, mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts! Fresh cranberries were used for the sauce. The prime rib with asparagus and potatoes was also excellent . Great pumpkin pie and crème brûlée! When I cook I make everything from scratch, even pie crusts; Ocean 7 did not disappoint! read more

So disappointing. The cocktail list is smaller than the one on the website, the beer selection is poor, and when I ordered what I felt was the best option (Cape May IPA), I was handed a can. No glass, no plastic cup, but a can. While it is pleasant to sit on the porch, the bar is not well run. I think most bars in Cape May are better than this one. Skip it. read more

Very disappointed with my breakfast experience at Aleathea's yesterday I ordered chocolate chip pancakes and they had a few chips in the batter but mostly a handful were dumped on top of the stack..... really sad I used to love the sausage here but when 4 basically brown and serve sausages were placed in front of me ... well I was angry I don't buy that stuff at home and would not have expected it at a restaurant of this caliber My wife had eggs Benedict which she enjoyed but was totally disappointed with the home fries. Defiant manager and terrible service AND food. Awful service: had to remind service to get water. 20 minutes to get first drink. Had to hunt down server for my husbands second drink. It was a Sunday night and not busy as we walked around the restaurant to gage it. Many empty tables. Wasn't even half full. Dinner took an hour to arrive. When it did, it was horrible: over salty, the basmati rice in a clump on a side plate. When we complained, some guy named Duane, apparently a manager, approached us on the way out, and CHALLENGED us on our experience. Let me remind you, you're in the business of customer service. Keeping it simple: 1. Food is off the charts good (see pics). The Poke Bowl with Scallops was very, very good. I couldn't slow down eating it. Every part of the dish had a unique and great flavor. Highly recommend. 2. The setting of the restaurant and the hotel is unbeatable (I don't have pictures but they probably won't do it justice, anyway). You feel like a king eating there. 3. We got drinks at the bar and the bartender was polite and funny and generous with our wine :) Our server was not the most accommodating at the beginning, and was a bit salty with some of us, but we also had a very large group (~15). Spent a week in Cape May recently and on first night we went out looking for some food. Came across Aleathea and were wonderfully surprised. Had a great meal here. Restaurant is rather cute and well decorated - attached to a hotel. Service was impeccable - from recommendations to great knowledge of menu and wines, to just being thoughtful (like bringing kid food first). The food was pretty good. i'd call it upscale pub cuisine, but execution is perfect. I had New England Clam chowder - hearty, with nice clam chunks and delicious. The fish Tacos were amazing with nice fresh fish and great seasoning. The Thai wings were huge with plenty of moist chicken on the bone and great sauce. They also had outstanding wines - the Riesling was super refreshing and we ended up buying few bottles online after having it here. The meal came with a nice selection of freshly baked breads which were delicious - from raisin bread to plain white to some sort of herby bread. There was also delicious dipping oil - infused with herbs, so we had to ask for 2nd serving as dipping the hot fresh bread in herby oil resulted in amazing opener for the meal Very enjoyable meal, great drinks, nice casual atmosphere and great service. Had breakfast here a few days ago. Service was polite but very slow despite there being only 2 or 3 people in the dining room. After ordering, our server had to be prompted by the hostess to attend to us. After a long wait, only then did our food come. I had bourbon French toast which was good, but not great. My orange juice was watery. My girlfriend had the smoked salmon dish which was served with undercooked fried eggs. The milk for her coffee was curdled (are you guys pouring it back after the guests leave?) so she sent it back. The coffee was still on the bill at the end, but they removed the charge. While eating, I noticed a bus boy setting a table with silverware that he had placed on the seats first. Btw, 4 dollars for an ordinary cup of coffee. Won't go again. read more

I went here, along with my family, to celebrate my parent's anniversary. I heard such great things about this place, but I was extremely disappointed with my overall experience. I arrived at 5pm on a Sunday night. The restaurant runs a 3 course meal early bird special between 5-530pm for $25. For my 3 course meal, I ordered buffalo wings, a Caesar salad & a crab cake sandwich. I also ordered a glass of wine with my meal. Including myself, there were 17 of us at the restaurant and 7 of them were of the age of 6 or younger. Because of the size of our party, we had two waitresses, Vickie & Melissa. At first, everything seemed great. However, as I received the wings and then the salad roughly 15 mins later, I had already received 2 of my 3 course meal before any of the 7 kids received any food whatsoever. Typically, the waitresses would bring out the kids food right away, but this did not happen. Then, the 3rd course of the meal was when it took a turn for the worst. After waiting over an hour, I had finally received my crab cake sandwich with sides of asparagus and mashed potatoes. I went to go eat the mashed potatoes when I noticed they were extremely cold. The asparagus and crab cake were also cold. I told the waitress about it and she apologized to me and said she would take the crab cake sandwich off the bill. Although she did take the sandwich off the bill, I was very disappointed with the result considering how long I had waited for the sandwich. The wings and salad were okay, but the actual dinner entree, as well as the overall service was extremely disappointing. If you have a big party like I did, I would not recommend coming here. read more

We ate here on a busy Saturday night with a wedding going on in their main room. Beautiful location on beach ave. Possibly due to the other event, our service was extremely slow. Drinks were good, but took a long time. Kids food was good, including mozzarella sticks and fries. Unfortunately, the most of the adult entrees were unremarkable. The highlight was the avocado with crab salad. My spinach salad was dripping with dressing and the ahi tuna on top was overcooked with tough texture. Their flat iron steak special was ok, but the cut of meat wasn't the best. Overall, a pricey disappointment due to slow service, loud wedding and mediocre food. We are yearly Cape May vacationers after Labor Day. We had been big fans of Aleathea's and were excited to have dinner at Ocean's 7. The bar was still nice although drink prices were much higher than before. The restaurant was not as nice. The hostess was rude, the nice linen tablecloths were replaced with what looked like cafeteria tables and the room was freezing cold. The waitress who was a very sweet young lady was completely overworked and overwhelmed. Several patrons were complaining about the cold but she said they lost the remote. The water looked rusty and was foul tasting. The seltzer I then requested was undrinkable The food was overpriced and mediocre with weird portion sizes either too big or not enough We will never go back read more

Came here last year during COVID and had a wonderful experience. Service was outstanding and food was really good. Came back this year and it was a complete opposite. I stood outside at the bar for a solid 5 minutes without being acknowledged. Once the bar I was able to get the bar tender to acknowledge me, she had a terrible attitude and made a drink that was impalpable. Old world Charm, live entertainment, good food, prices are higher then normal but expected in a resort touristy area like cape may. Overall I recommend!! Just finished dinner and to say we were disappointed is an understatement. I researched places that would accommodate me being vegan via the Happy Cow App, and was happy to see this place have a few different options. First, the menu online and on Yelp are completely different. We ordered beers and drinks and they came out great. I saw on Yelp they gave rolls and my family decided to not to apps because of this. Our waitress was completely out of order, giving drinks and rolls to tables who came before and after multiple guests. When the rolls came out, I ask if she was aware if they contained dairy or eggs. She proceeds to say "I wouldn't eat them" and how they get them off site. I was annoyed she didn't even try to check because at that point I was starving. The kitchen appeared to be backed up which is okay because we know of the job situation during COVID. When the food arrived we were hopeful. My sister order shrimp scampi, which looked good but was drowning in oil and butter. It contained no flavor and the waitress offered fresh grated cheese. It never arrived. I order the poke bowl with tofu. The tofu had great flavor but the bowl contained about 1/4 cup of rice, and about a whole cup of pickled ginger which was just unappetizing. It also contained a mystery white sauce mixed in that wasn't listed on the menu. My mom got the beyond burger and thankfully they couldn't mess it up. read more

Normally when I'm staying at a hotel I like to avoid the hotel restaurant and check out other cool places in the area. I guess my feeling is if I'm staying in the actual hotel then I'm spending a bunch of time there, and on vacation why not check out as many new places as possible? We had an 85 dollar voucher for dinner and because of that it was a no brainer to stay at the Inn at Cape May for dinner and try out their in house restaurant. I'm really glad that we stuck around and ate at Aleathea's because everything that we had was so yum and the service was great too! I'm super klutzy and at the beginning of the meal I accidentally spilled my wine everywhere...whoopsies.The waiter brought me out a full new glass and didn't charge me for the old glass which was super sweet of her. I'm a sucker for a unique bread basket and this one certainly didn't disappoint. It came accompanied with a bowl of roasted garlic cloves in olive oil. Unreal. Probably a bad thing that this came out before the meal because I couldn't stop eating it. Next we ordered Caesar salad and a baked brie. The baked brie was outstanding and was served in a flaky crust with a strawberry drizzle on top and a strawberry compote on the side. I don't really make this dish myself and it's hard to find on a menu so this was definitely a rare treat. I went with shrimp scampi as my main and once again- it was a hit. The dish had tons of shrimp in it and was in a delicious butter garlic broth. My only complaint was that the dish was a bit too buttery. I mean, is too much butter ever really a problem? I guess not. I just felt a little guilty about indulging in such a rich dish after the fact. We had a ton of food and the bill was around 100 dollars, and our voucher was able to cover most of the meal which was a score. Can't forget to mention that we also had complimentary breakfast here both mornings! I kept it pretty simple with a breakfast sandwich, but they had a ton of outrageous options such as a lobster omelette and a nutella stuffed french toast. We go here almost every year when we're in Cape May. Their menu changes, and is almost always very tasty. I like the 'twists' they put on some standard dishes, making them almost 'new'. Also, we are usually there during Restaurant week and Aleathea's has an extensive menu from which to sample their wares. There have been a couple of 'off' visits, but the majority of our experiences have been a tasty, satisfying meal on the screened-in porch of one of the most iconic buildings in Cape May - The Inn of Cape May. The employees are friendly and attentive. However, some of them seem to be prone to standing at a table and chatting for long periods of time to their customers. That's all well and good for the recipient customers, but I can't help wondering if other tables within the server's realm might not be wanting for some attention. After dinner, it's nice to go out and take a seat in one of the wood rocking chairs on the covered porch of the Inn of Cape May and have a drink from the bar which is accessible from the outside. There's usually a nice breeze from the nearby shoreline, and you can people-watch. It's a lovely evening to have dinner at Aleathea's and sit on the porch afterward.
