We stepped into Fins for a weekday lunch in mid-May, just based on convenience (in the Washington Street Mall area) and we were pleasantly surprised by the coastal cuisine (with a bit of an international flair), the prompt and courteous service and the atmosphere (a cool vibe with turquoise, lighted bars and an inoffensively tuneful modern pop playlist streaming in the background. We enjoyed our lunch orders (Thai egg rolls and a salad topped with salmon immensely - much more than anticipated for a weekday lunch at an unheralded restaurant (which clearly is mainly, a bar). Prices, a bit regrettably, are scaled for Cape May in tourist season. While we enjoyed our lunch, dropping over $50 for our lunches plus two soft drinks was a bit more than anticipated. Still, Fins deserves more business than it appears to get. Hopefully in season it attracts it. read more

It was nice to step into this place off-season. The bartender greeted us and joked a little while we were being seated, which just made the experience delightful. Glancing at the menu, I immediately zeroed in on the open-faced hot salami sandwich. Grabbed a side of tots with a bacon cheese sauce as well. Turnaround time was great, but my sandwich was completely missing the spicy mustard as noted on the menu and as is traditionally included in this type of sandwich. After waiting for a bit for the waiter to return, I decided to ask the bartender if he had any. He politely grabbed a bottle from behind the bar. Excited, I added it to the sandwich and took a bite only to find that the meat was extremely dry. The dipping sauce for the tots was extremely lacking in flavor. Service was nice, the bartender is exactly what you would expect from a seasoned service...witty and light-hearted. The bartender and the fact that the rest of those who were with me enjoyed their food is why I was able to overlook the condiment slip-up, semi-dry meat, and the lack of flavor for the tots. Good food. My sister and cousin shared the broiled combination plate. It was delicious. I tasted their crab cake because I love to see in my travels who makes the best crab cake. This was one of my top picks. I got the lobster roll. I liked it but it was too salty for me. But I did eat it , can't let lobster go to waste. If I ever go back I would get the crab cakes. I've walked by Fins so many times and just never thought to try it out. Glad I did this time! The place js decorated nicely with a a very nice bar area, comfortable seating with plenty of booths, friendly servers and fresh food. There was live music and a totally chill vibe. Really enjoyed the time here. We had the oysters- very fresh. Kinda surprised there was no horseradish or vinegar served with it. The broiled scallops were very good- cooked to the perfect texture and flavor. Steamed lobster was great- I don't know if they don't give the little forks to get the lobster meat out or if they forgot? Not sure. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, and I love the multitude of aquariums (which seem very well kept, too, though one yellow tang made me sad). If anything negative about the ambiance, the music is kinda loud. I ordered a dozen oysters and a bowl of the seafood chowder. The oysters were among the best I've had out, and very fairly priced. The chowder was amazing -- I'm a little confused as to how big the smaller cup must be, as the bowl was small, but it's also very filling. My martini was slightly insane -- I don't think it would hold another drop. One small surprise -- 2.5% was added for using a card. read more

Desperate to find a spot during a holiday visit, Fin's always provides. we were seated promptly and politely, the place was hopping - everyone down to enjoy the christmas village and see the area lit up for the season. our server was new, but he was attentive, friendly and able to give us all the details we needed to figure dinner out fast. we always order a few of the oysters offered here and then turn to something substantial like a burger. like prior stops, everything was delicious. the specialty drinks for the holidays were great, my husband got something apple-y and it was like sipping pure christmas. great job Fin's, thank you and your team for always being a spot we can count on. read more

7/5/24 We did a day trip to Cape May from AC. Had an early dinner before we headed back. The hostess kept us waiting for a long time while the customers ahead of us wanted to chitchat and order takeout. They were told takeout orders required cash payment and they started to argue that it wasn't like this last year or something... usually a hostess would excuse themselves to seat other waiting guests before coming back to handle them but we were left standing and waiting... Finally hubby waved down another person and asked if we can just sit at the empty booth. He seemed frazzled and let us sit, but didn't bring menus. Had to flag down another person who explained that the hostess usually brings people to a table and give menus, but she came back with menus. Then Denise came to take our order and she was absolutely delightful. Helpful and patient. 5 Stars for her! Arnold Palmer was watered down :/ Rum Runner is good, strong Scallops with Baked Potato and Stew Tomatoes - scallops were flavorless, on the last scallops I sprinkled some Old Bay and it was much better, should have thought of it earlier lol. The Stewed Tomatoes were amazing! I could have just had that with nothing else. Steamed Lobster with Slaw and Fries - lobster was good but they didn't cut it or crack any shell so it was hard to eat. Slaw was ok. Fries were plain, but Denise brought some cheese and old bay and it was good with the addons. Tried it for the first time tonight. I got the full lobster and it was pretty decent. Wife had the dry rub Caribbean jerk wings. Literally no flavor or rubs at all. Not a flake of seasoning. Told them....yet the bill stayed the same. Seems like this place is 50/50. Prices were not terrible and the kids loved the burgers. Waiter never came back once for refills and they stuck a party of 10 right behind us. Not one other table was being used in the entire back half of the restaurant so putting it next to a family of 4 was odd. I would not go back but food was mid at best. read more

Do not go here!!I have never experienced anything as bad as I did today at this place. How is this place still open. The servers need to be trained! The restaurant has a modern vibe (kind of like what a Miami bar would look like). There's a nice large fish tank on display. The bar top is unique. The oysters and clams were on point! I wouldn't come here to eat if you are a vegetarian. I eat meat and got the crab roll which was solid. However, my sister is vegetarian. She ordered the old bay fries as an app and the cheese sauce came with bacon in it. The menu made no mention of bacon. One of the only vegetarian entrees was the pasta primavera which came with a white wine sauce, but after checking with the waitress she said it was cross contaminated. Yet again, the menu was misleading because the white sauce was described as white wine, garlic, and herbs, with no mention of fish or meat products in the description. She ended up ordering it with red sauce and it eventually came out with huge pieces of cauliflower and broccoli which doesn't go with the dish at all. Overall, a very gross dish. The bar was great and the atmosphere is nice, but it took about 15-20 mins to see our waitress once seated at a table. The other seafood items my family ordered weren't worth the price. read more

We enjoyed a delicious lunch with excellent service. The menu is pretty extensive and the portions were large. I had a turkey club on fresh wheat bread (had to bring half home). I also tried the Buffalo chicken egg rolls which were delicious and only had a little heat and a nice dipping sauce. Nice atmosphere with multiple fish tanks. I see some negative reviews related to service. I will say we arrived about 12:15 for lunch and it was not crowded yet. We were looking for a dog friendly spot to eat. Find has multiple signs advertising a dog friendly deck. My children wanted to sit indoors so they were so kind to seat us in adjoining spots. I had a hot coffee and the crab cake sandwich. Both were fresh and excellent. The server was the best part. Kind to our dog and served both of our tables inside and out. Beautiful decor inside. Our family decided to try it out, but when we arrived we saw very small outdoor tables with signs about no dogs at the table ends. Confused after what we had read, we asked the hostess if they allowed dogs. He responded that they did not unless it was a service dog. The menu looked great, as did the photos of the food. It's unfortunate that we were unable to see for ourselves. We usually stop by Fina whenever we visit Cape May for the ambience and a drink at the bar. This visit, my husband paid for his drink and the bartender didn't give him his change. He thought maybe the guy was busy and would give it to him after a while. He reminded the bartender about the change, and the bartender said he already gave him the money. When my husband said he didn't get it, the bartender proceeded to ask security to "check the video", and he was sure he set the money on the bar. It was obvious he was accusing my husband of stealing the money. After my husband took out his wallet and showed him there's not $11 in there, the bartender said maybe another bartender took it. Finally he realized his mistake after he counted his register and kind of apologized, but we didn't feel good about it. It was pretty embarrassing and the other staff were watching us. From the moment I sat down, my server kept staring at me in a way that felt invasive and unsettling-it wasn't friendly, it was just weird. I couldn't even enjoy my meal because I felt so on edge the entire time. We got so uncomfortable that we ended up ordering our only item to go just so we could get out of there as quickly as possible. On top of that, the restaurant had an unpleasant odor that hit you as soon as you walked in. Not exactly the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay.
