Service is super friendly. We arrived a bit before opening and chatted with them outside like old friends :) They are related to the owners of Georges so this is a restaurant family. They were really gracious and service was perfect. The byob element I personally love (bring what you want and pay normal rates for it) but I could see how this could be problematic for vacationers not prepared. The glassware was beautiful - one of my pics shows it. The atmosphere is very pleasant - a little romantic, a little modern but all in all perfect for an anniversary dinner - we had a corner table with bench seating so we could snuggle :) We chose three apps because it was early and we thought we'd hit another place late. These two are the duck wings and the crispy shrimp. Both delicious but the wings VERY good. We also had a swordfish crostini done on a crispy won ton and we both liked that very much. Killer food. Upscale American fare with some outstanding flavor. We had the pork belly appetizer and peanut butter cheesecake dessert with the lamb shank and pork chop dinners. The lamb was so tender the bone pulled right out and the meat cut with a fork. Excellent flavor as well. The pork was superb. Insanely tender and seasoned just right, paired with the cooked pear sauce on top and truffle mashed potatoes it made me smile with every bite. Appetizer with pork belly was incredibly tender and rich, they subbed a shrimp for the scallop and the shrimp was massive and meaty. Choc. Peanut butter cheesecake was so good. I'd give The YB a 3.5 if Yelp allowed it. The location is great. I love that it's a small intimate restaurant. Our servers were polite an attentive. We had some ordering confusion which impacted my experience a bit. Overall the appetizers far out performed the seafood, which given were at the beach, was a bit sad. The wings were tasty. The stand out was the K&B salad which had great dressing. Loved the hot/cold contrast between the flash fried Brussels and the kale salad. I had the scallops- average and with quite a bit of grit. The carrots it came with seemed boiled and again relatively flavorless. My husband had the sea bass but unless you got some of the very minimal sauce it was plated with, it was fairly bland. I didn't even sense salt and pepper. For the price point, I wouldn't rush back for dinner but might try another meal. read more

I went a few years ago and it was amazing. This time I was disappointed. There's a cost for reservation no shows, which is no big deal, but we had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. The food was mediocre, the ambience a little uninviting (extremely chilly and rowdy guests, though the latter is no fault of the restaurant). I also have a feeling we were overcharged for something. It's my fault for not checking the itemized receipt , but we were the last ones in the place and I knew we were being rushed out so I just paid and left without thinking). We had an appetizer and two entrees that by my count should have been about $100, but we paid $140 (plus tip of course). Unless the steak really was $90, which I guess might be the case, but I think they should let folks know the cost of their specials upfront. ah well! read more

Yup... 5 stars.. and the only thing that was a con is that it's cash only.. BUMMER. Other than that, we were thrilled with our visit during our anniversary trip to Cape May earlier this month. Location is right across from the beach! Great service, price-- $9 UNLIMITED--that is absolutely unheard of in 2018, and most importantly.. food was DELICIOUS!!! Ambiance was not super fancy, but who cares.. we appreciated the laid back, beach vibe. Awesome music playlist in the background.. did I mention the food?? We were seated immediately and service was impeccable. I believe our server's name was Robert? This dude was so awesome that he ran to the store next door to get us ketchup when they ran out. He got us started with our BYOB of bubbly we came with.. set up with glasses and OJ which made for an even better experience. ;-) I ordered a plain waffle and a Pat Jackson omelette with American instead of cheddar... DEEEEELICIOUS. Every bite. I forget what the hubby ordered because I was too into my meal, but he was super happy so that's all that matters. YB sad when there are places like this to eat? YB sad at all? I mean, the bay might not be a good place for you to live, but the cape may! This is one of many good dining options in Cape May. It's a little out of my price range but the one time I did eat here someone else was paying so that was none of my concern. Food here is good with plenty of typical dishes such as Burgers, Omelettes and Waffles. My burger was tasty and definitely 4 Star worthy but not quite out of this world enough to justify the moderate prices or a 5 star. read more

I'm remiss to give a mediocre review, but this is between a 3 and a 4-star dinner experience. 3 stars for the fam, 4 stars for the food otherwise. ;) YB is a much ballyhooed restaurant in Cape May with a more inventive menu than the satisfying, but not modernized bevy of swanky inn-cum-restaurants. It's of course a huge leap over the profusion of more moderate, accessible family-oriented restaurants that dot the landscape, as well. They all have their place. YB is much more artistic at dinner. One should glean that from the name alone, but upon entering, the avant-garde artwork, excellent music (not to be weird, but listen to the spoken-word track in the bathroom - it's great!), and overall darker, more serious ambiance should clue in the guests. The food is good to great, which is better than mediocre to good at most touristy spots. I, as does almost everyone else, particularly enjoyed their Kale and Brussel Sprouts salad. Not to be beastly, but it's huge, filling, and beautifully presented with a large variety of green, flavors, and crispnesses. The Brussel Sprouts are seared or flashed fried, so an easy win for the borderline umami experience. I even ordered a side of sprouts to go with my main later since I'm a bit of a green glutton. We had a couple of the panoply of fish dishes for our entrées. The service is prompt and direct. Polite, but a little more stilted. This may be colored by the seriousness of the kitchen and head chef. We had missed our original reservation one night by 15-20 minutes, so had to reschedule. On the second time, we were seated promptly and the service seemed overworked, but personable when present. The challenge was for the kids. They do not have a kid's dinner menu. They do not even offer a few offerings from the chef, such as a pasta dish, etc. for the kids. Our children are well behaved and relatively sophisticated eaters, but things such as a Kale Salad and Pork Belly is pushing it. Eventually, the chef relented after our server checked if "he had time" to changing the flat bread to a regular pizza. That said, it was bread with cheese, no pizza sauce, very plain Jane and unsatisfying. Whiff. There were a couple other tables with children, and the kids flat-out did not order anything. I have a feeling that the brunch menu with French toasts, brioches, etc. would be a broader hit. For the food snob though, the presentation, textures, flavors, are quite delightful! read more

Fabulous... an amazing dinner at reasonable prices with stellar service. We had a wonderful and enjoyable dinner here. YB is across the road from the beach with a relatively modern, yet beachy vibe. Food: Chicken and Waffle Appetizer: The chicken and waffle appetizer was a meal size in itself. It had the best sweet and savory flavors accompanied by the texture of the waffle and chicken. I was skeptical, but boy was it good. Sesame Crusted Tuna: Cooked perfectly with the right amount of pink in the center and blackened ends. Perfection! The accompanying sesame soba noodles were also delicious. Maxi Mahi: The Mahi was cooked just right and the brown sugar onions and couscous was tasty. Peanut Butter Chocolate Bomb: All the desserts sounded delicious and prepared by a local bakery. This was creamy chocolatey heaven. The only thing that would have it better was if it was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Service: Our waitress was so friendly and personable. She made an already delicious meal even more enjoyable. YB is BYOB and we didn't have time to pick up something prior to arriving in Cape May. Not to worry though, the local liquor store will deliver! The waitress gave us the number for Sunset Liquors. We placed an order over the phone and the liquor store delivered a bottle of wine to our table within 10 minutes. Made us feel like royalty. Yum!!! I've always wanted to eat here and finally stopped in this morning for breakfast. All you can eat for $8 doesn't include drinks...obviously still don't see how they do it. We started with 2 omelets which were both delicious. The SA cha and bacon blue were great with potatoes and choice of bread. We finished with French toast covered with fresh whipped cream and strawberries. Perfection. The decaf and regular coffees were both good, as was the fresh oj. This is an absolutely amazingly good restaurant. The food was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully plated and courteously served by the wondrous Sophia. Thank you. We started with the K&B appetizer of Brussels sprouts, kale and shavings of cheese. My husband had the scallops (with Bearnaise on the side) while I thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp with cauliflower/and lemon gherkin crema. We ended our meal with a wonderful cheese cake and delicious ice cream. Throughout the meal, Sophia was kind, courteous and very helpful. WARNING THERE IS A NEW BREAKFAST MENU AND IT IS NOT UNLIMITED (except for one option. SEE MY PIC. Okay now for the dinner review, though we wanted to visit for breakfast the options didn't seem too promising for a preggo like me. My husband and I visited this restaurant for our fancy dinner splurge date night, and it certainly felt like a splurge. The menu looked delicious, but tough for a preggo (a lot of feta, seared tuna, radish, etc.) I started off with the Greek salad and the pork belly. The pork belly was full of flavor plus bbq sauce and a little sweet potato purée (more like a garnish). Serving included four little delicious pieces. My Greek salad was good, I don't think it said it came with peppers but indeed it did, and with a ton of them. I'm not a fan of onions and peppers (and already asked to remove the feta) so my husband ate all of the onions and peppers instead. They did a good job in pickling the salad which was good. The small bowl had a TON of dressing which I'm usually a super fan of, but even this amount was too much for a fan like me. I believe this is a BYOB place so options were pepsi products only. I wish they had fresh lemonade, but I guess I got the Pepsi version, which I didn't like and convinced my husband to drink. Water it is! For main course I had the roasted duck and I was super nervous about having it cooked well done, but it was exceptionally cooked. The "new" potatoes the menu highlights were not exciting at all, and the pickled veggies included cucumber peppers and radish again so I couldn't have it, just picked on the cucumbers. The potatoes were so underwhelming, but I feel like most potatoes in cape May were underwhelming :( I ordered a side of the sweet potatoes puree and I'm happy I did, it was delicious. My husband had the pork chop cooked medium well, but it was certainly well done. It was dry so he had to dip it in my peach like sauce which was great. The pork chop came with some kind of stuffing, black beans, and string beans. The string beans were delish, and super fresh, I felt like that is what the duck dish was missing, something fresh and green. The stuffing and beans were good, though my husband and I are not fans of stuffing this was definitely one of the better stuffings we've ever had. We were served by the "younger brother" himself, and service was pretty good. When we walked in we were advised by the hostess that only reservations were being seated, though I had seen a ton of available reservations a second before on open table so I told her I would just reserve a table on the spot. The "younger brother" (owner??) came quickly and sat us on a corner seat. I have to say it's a small restaurant but there were about four tables or so and a ton of available space while we were there. Anyways, I would certainly be back. The menu here is quite limited as this is a small space. I started with a Caesar salad with kale and Brussels sprouts. It was large and very tasty. I also shared a mushroom Gorgonzola flatbread, also delish. The Chilean sea bass was a delight, served with small potatoes. The problem was with my vegetarian husband. He ordered a mushroom main dish. It was simply a pile of mushrooms with a small line of some type of sauce. No baby carrots. The dish was tasteless and he couldn't eat it. I tasted it and agreed. The waitress was lovely and retuned it to the kitchen. The only other option was cauliflower. We passed on that. Vegetarian food needs a protein, not simply vegetables. We went for lunch the Sunday before Labor Day. The food was tasty and very reasonably priced. However, they were very clearly short staffed and having various problems. People were waiting impatiently to pay, tables weren't cleared, the waitress was very sweet but clearly also very stressed out. It was not a good situation. We tried to leave but the manager said she would apply the No-show penalty because she had our credit card through Open Table. It was a bad experience overall. read more

What a wonderful experience our dinner was! COVID related comments: The server (one for all the diners, 6 tables) wore a mask the entire time, and cleaned and thoroughly sanitized all the tables between guests. She was working like crazy and was doing a wonderful job. We felt extremely safe and comfortable dining here. The outdoor area on the sidewalk was small but still accommodating and we were not on top of other diners. Food related comments: They ran out of pork belly! Which we were really looking forward to having! But that is okay, the bacon wrapped scallops and the yellowfin tacos did. not. disappoint. Both were the perfect appetizer size, and I must say the scallops were cooked to perfection. The pork chop was excellent, and the cornbread stuffing was delicious. The steak frites were wonderful, and the (optional, additional charge) crab cake add on was a perfect pair. Both the steak and the crab cakes were cooked so well, and so enjoyable. We also indulged on a small order of duck fat fries, they were excellent. We didn't have dessert as we were just too full, but next time (there will definitely be a next time) we will make sure to save room, as I am sure based on how delicious dinner was, dessert won't disappoint either. One fantastic plus was that the restaurant was BYOB, with no corkage or pouring fee. Really such a wonderful touch. I have faith again that restaurants are still operating at 100% with COVID after I ate here. Everything was great! The tuna tacos are the perfect size and delicious. Some pictures had them more of a fried shell but mine was corn, which I love. My husbands bacon wrapped scallops were amazing, and a nice portion. My cod was the best cod I have had in a long time. Crispy, spicy and just great! My husbands linguini and clams were simple, clean, and nice. The sauce had a great balance to it! I am not a pasta person but the sauce was really great. The only thing I regret about this spot is not ordering some sides. Definitely make a reservation and go. It's worth every penny and the service is also great. read more

This was the best meal of our Cape May vacation. Excellent service. My daughter is a very picky eater, and she loved everything. We started out with the Korean BBQ wings and a salad. Halibut and Sea Bass for dinner. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, highlighting the high quality fish. They provide little tastings in between such as a sweet corn soup you sip from a cup, which was a nice touch. We visited The YB with a group in July 2020. The food was so incredible. We started with pork belly and bacon wrapped scallops as appetizers - both are MUST HAVES. The steak frites with gorgonzola are incredible with a great marinade. The pork chops were juicy with great flavor. The ahi tuna was so well done with soba noodles. The crab cakes were so delicious. It will be difficult to pick something on the menu that you wouldn't like! I would come here again and again. Brandon, the owner, was beyond accommodating - ensuring we had a safe, distanced experience. He was incredibly friendly and ensured we were well taken care. I will be back. Totally amazing evening at the YB with our party of 10 and Megan as our server. The food was beyond delicious, exceptional in taste and presentation. The amuse-bouche (squash soup) was a surprise and a delight. Desserts were yummy. Entrees were clean your plate delectable. Megan was attentive just when she needed to be. A nearby liquor store will deliver your wine if wanted. A gem - like 10 carat! We luv, luv, luved the background grooves; which to our surprise you can download the playlist on Spotify. My only dissatisfaction was their decaf coffee - all the aficionados at our table knew before it hit the table that it was weak - it resembled the color of tea. While many restaurants blame this on being a decaf therefore it has no strength, that is not the case. The restaurant is getting what their supplier is delivering rather than purchasing from a coffee roaster. I've had GREAT decaf in many restaurants. It is a minor issue in the scheme of things. We talked it up to friends who came to cape May for the first time with us this past week. We were caught off guard at an ENTIRELY new menu, going a completely different direction, with much higher prices. Appetizers started the night off on a bad note. Both the tuna pizza and Hamachi were served on a bland tortilla, tuna had weird sauce, and the hamachi was very fishy. Entrees we're OK, but overpriced. I'll gladly pay these prices, but the food should blow you away. The pork belly, scallops, shrimp, halibut- none of them did. YB! PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD MENU!! PLEASE! Very, very solid choice. We were a group of five and were seated right on time and the wait staff was very pleasant and attentive. Shared the flatbread (mushrooms and gorgonzola) which was outstanding! We all had something a bit different as I had the artic char over cauliflower. They don't skimp on the portions for sure... I was the only one who could finish my dish. My wife had the cauliflower main course which was massive (and tasty)...she barely finished half. The Kale salad and Korean wings were very good as were everything else we tried. If you are going to dine here, check the menu as it leans heavily on fish and vegetarian. There are only a couple of meat options and it's a limited menu. But they stay true to what they are...really great place and we would definitely eat here again when vacationing. read more

For dinner I had the hanger steak cooked to my liking and so did my daughters boyfriend. My husband had the tuna cooked to perfection, and my daughters cod was delicious. i really wanted to like this place for dinner because I love their brunch but I was throughly disappointed. My boyfriend treated me here to a date night where we ordered the Tuna Pizza, Korean wings, The bass entree, and the Cauliflower entree. The only highlights of the night were the Korean Wings and the Brussels sprouts served with the Cauliflower entree. The potatoes that were served with my bass were undercooked however they graciously gave me a new side of the potatoes. Ive had a lot better meals in Cape May for a much better price. Trying to eat breakfast in Cape May during the summer time at 11am on a Sunday means ridiculously long lines and wait times everywhere. When we walked into YB, they had no wait time at all. At first I found it suspicious but the Yelp reviews said it was safe so we went in. The place is very small with only like 10-15 tables total but very clean, sleek and classy looking. The menu is small, only a few options but they are GOOD options. And the best thing is they offer unlimited breakfast so you can order as many dishes as you want for only $8 a person. Sides and drinks are extra. But still! That is a damn good deal. Their cookies and cream waffle should be illegal. Nothing is allowed to be that delicious in life. Nothing. Their pancakes were good too and so was their omelette. I would definitely come back here. I think the lack of people in here for their breakfast is because they are mainly a dinner place so people don't bother coming for breakfast. But the breakfast deal was phenomenal so people don't know what they're missing. read more
