Cold Spring Grange is the on-site restaurant at Historic Cold Spring Village in Cape May. I was intrigued after noticing that it had very high ratings. After touring the village, my mom and I stopped in for lunch. I was pleased to see they were offering a soup and salad buffet for $15 each. The salad portion was quite robust with lots of toppings options, plus chicken salad, tuna salad, potato salad, gnocchi salad, street corn salad, cole slaw, etc. They also had a great selection of desserts, including baked goods that they sell inside the village at the bakery. Beverages were tasty too, and I opted for the lemonade. I enjoyed everything I tried, and the tuna salad was exceptional. Highly recommend this historic spot. read more

This business is mostly for catering. Not open for business most days. The grounds around the restaurant are pretty with lots of history.

Had Cold Spring for dinner and it was very good. Burger was full of flavor, though the bacon steak -styled slab was pale and flabby. I ended up taking it off and enjoyed the burger much more. Brisket sandwich was adequately spicy and flavor coming at you from every texture. Mac and baked beans were very good too. I forgot they allow dogs and did takeout this time for their sake, but I will definitely bring them next visit. We've been visiting Cape May for years and only found out recently that Cold Spring had a restaurant. We've been twice and we will now become regulars! The food, service, and atmosphere is very good. My girlfriend and I just ate lunch here, and it was fantastic! We loved the rustic atmosphere and ambiance, and if not for the humidity would have gladly been seated on the great patio porch tables. They have a new chef and he knocked our meal out of the park. Our server Megan was attentive, knowledgeable, and charming. Top marks. The food was excellent!! My girlfriend and I have spent 20 combined years in the high end restaurant business, and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and freshness of the food. Cooking is about making food how the food wants to be made, and the chefs absolutely understand this. We split four of the starters. The brussel sprouts were well balanced, and had the perfect flavor profile. The Octopus was my girlfriends favorite of the four, and was cooked perfectly, and was seasoned to perfection. The pork belly was also excellent, and was slightly sweet which interacted very well with the flavor of the meat. Much to my surprise the pierogis were my favorite. I'm not big on them and was shocked how rich, and flavorful they were. We also got the lobster roll and chimi steak sandwich to go. We ate the lobster roll and it was excellent as well, and are gonna eat the sandwich tonight. All in all, it was a great experience and we will definitely be back for lunch and if we have off during their dinner service we are definitely looking forward to that. read more

I just had the craziest experience with the new manager here. She screamed at me that I was "Hillary Clinton" and that I "sounded like a feminist" after I called to reach out to her to find out why my daughter and I had received such poor service today. I've eaten at the Grange before, and booked a corporate event there. Prior to the new chef/management change the food has been excellent and the service exemplary. Today my daughter and I went in for lunch after having a good time at the museum. We were seated, and given an eye-roll by the waitress after I indicated that I was fine with water and we didn't want to order further drinks. We did order a modest lunch...a hamburger and fried chicken perhaps totalling about $30 worth of food. No appetizers or salads. 40 minutes later we had watched every other table be served. We tried to flag down the waitress, to no avail. The manager was regaling the table next to us about some handmade perogies. She turned her back to us and it was impossible to get her attention without being rude. My daughter's physical needs took over, and we decided to leave. Our waitress was on the terrace serving a large family party that had been seated after us. She took one look at us, and looked away. My daughter watched all this, and then asked me why every single man had been served but we hadn't. I had no answer, and we walked to our car and left. I called later in the day and asked for the manager who was immediately hostile. She stated that all I had to do was reach over to the next table and interrupt her if I'd needed help. Having waitressed my way through college before law school I was a bit taken aback that in a not even half-full restaurant the manager was completely unaware that she had a table sitting there for nearly 40 minutes with no food. The manager grew angrier and then began to sputter that I had to understand that they were short staffed. When I indicated that I and my daughter watched every table seated after us be served before us, and that every single one of those tables contained men, she started to scream like a scalded weasel. She then shouted at me "Hillary Clinton" and " you sound like a feminist!" This was followed by her ranting that she was a professional woman. I offered to give her a few seconds to compose herself, and reflect on why she would think that screaming "Hillary Clinton" at me was remotely relevant. Now, my car, which was parked outside the restaurant does have a Hillary Clinton sticker on it. I'm guessing the manager might have broken off her pierogi discussion and followed us out and watched us get into our car when she realized we were leaving the restaurant. I mean, that's not creepy at all. I can tell you that when I was waitressing, if I'd had a reaction like that to a customer I would have been handed a cup to pee in. Further, my employers would have really thought twice about allowing me near sharp objects, turkey basters, and fire, again. Why were we treated so poorly? I simply cannot guess the motivations of someone who thinks that shouting "Hillary Clinton" is either an insult or a substantive response to the accusation of gender-specific preference. Politics aside, if you can't get a hamburger and fried chicken out of your kitchen at lunch time in under 40 minutes, maybe you need to pipe down about the pierogies and help your staff. read more

The Grange has a new chef and a new farm-to-table focus. My husband and I decided to try it as I have always loved the Village setting and farmhouse atmosphere of the restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent and our meal tasty. I had a fresh kale Caesar salad made with ingredients from a south Jersey farm and a beef brisket entree. My husband had a beet salad, again made with locally grown ingredients and a chicken pot pie which is one of his favorite comfort foods. Traditional American fare and a BYOB. Of course you can purchase beer from the new Cold Spring Brewery to consume with your meal instead of wine. read more

This place is too pricey but has good food, service, and atmosphere. They brought fresh bread rolls which were great. The meal was served on victorian style China. For an appetizer we got the cheese tray. The Bri and Goat cheese was nice and creamy. The dates with blue cheese sounded weird but were awesome. It was a great little tray. My husband got friend chicken. For the north, it was good. The fries were great. I got the flank steak, cooked medium rare, with potatoes and asparagus. Very good on some items, could be better on others. French onion soup dumplings, vg. Broiled romaine salad, vg. Lunch octopus salad, good but tiny portion of octopus. Lobster roll, vg generous lobster and aioli, but stale roll kills it. Why go to the trouble of spending money on terrific lobster salad and ruining it with a 50 cent roll that's a day old? And is lobster really cheaper than octopus? Why skimp on octopus and be generous with the lobster? I don't get it. We did takeout this weekend. Portions were generous. Food quality and flavor were excellent. Can't wait to dine in at the Grange.

The food is decent but the hours and seatings are ridiculous. One or two seatings for dinner. Lunch and then closed again. Everytime we are in the area and want to stop in we are turned away even in the summer when everyone is packed for dinner. I don't get it but today was our last try for lunch and we are now off to spend our money elsewhere! read more

Average. There was one server for lunch for the 5 tables with people in them along with a drink person to assist. While the server was running around tho, the manager greeted us and then supervised from the sidelines rarely assisting the server. We received our entrees first, after 30 min, then our soups, then our salads. They were out of one variety of salad though so we only got 2/3. They forgot the crab sandwich completely (and gave it to us to go, not charging us obv). Clam chowder and French Onion were best part. Pot pie was avg. This is by far one of the most delicious restaurants you will ever eat at. The Food is made with the freshest ingredients and will leave you wanting to come back for more. My husband and I had dinner here recently and were very happy with service and our meal so when our family was in town we reserved dinner on the porch for 13 people. Everyone enjoyed their entrees that included crab cakes, Yorkshire dip, soft shell crabs, hamburgers, salmon, and fried chicken. Those that had the fried chicken said it was the best they've had in a long time. Appetizers were very good as well. We highly recommend this restaurant especially if you have a large party as there is large free parking lot, the food is excellent and reasonably price for the quality in this area and it is a BYOB which we find beneficial when going out with a large group. I was so very fortunate to have a beautiful private catered dinner here out on their porch the other night with my 8 friends. The owner reached out to me after seeing me post on a Cape May County FB group. She collaborated with me to design a custom 4 course menu for our bachelorette party. The food wasn't just good, it was FANTASTIC. The ladies couldn't stop raving about it over the weekend. I have dined at almost every restaurant around the Cape May and Wildwood area, and without a doubt I can say this is one of the finest restaurants, in terms of both food and service. Not only that, but the owner is also the sweetest person who reached out to a stranger to help a covid affected bride. She made her night so special! After walking around the historic village, my fiancé and I needed so food. Luckily they have a restaurant on site to help fill this need. The place has a very Victorian feel to it and very elegant looking. Do not let the setting scare you off because this is not an over the top in price for food. Our waitress was nice, but she did not hit our table that much during our meal. I decided on getting the Yorkshire dip roast beef sandwich for my lunch and it was really good. Our long weekend in Cape May at Thanksgiving was made memorable also thanks to the wonderful and delectable feast that is offered at the Cold Spring Grange Restaurant. The restaurant owner, Ro, and the chef are among the nicest people you can ever meet, seeing them is like meeting old friends or family, this was our third experience at this restaurant and we'll make sure to come back every time we are in the Cape area! The menu was traditional and the price unbeatable. The highlights of the feast were of course the meats: I thoroughly enjoyed the pork loin stuffed with apple/sage filling, an incredibly juicy and not too salty ham, not to mention the perfectly roasted turkey. The sides were varied and so tasty within the traditional festive menu: candied sweet potatoes, roasted carrots, wonderfully fluffy mashed potatoes with gravy, and a herb stuffing and cranberry/apple sauce to die for. By dessert we were too full to fully appreciate the trio of sweet pies: apple, pecan and pumpkin, together with the signature chef bread pudding (rich in chocolate chips). Therefore, though the dinner was a buffet option, the owner gave us some amazing dessert to go.... Happiest Thanksgiving meal that was not cooked by myself!! read more

Absolute best meal in Cape May. We followed the chef from another Resturant she had years ago in Cape May that closed. She came out of the kitchen at some point and everyone actually clapped, that's how impressive the meals are. She chatted with the tables and made our experience so memorable. We had a number of horrible meals at other so called great places in town all week (we were on vacation). This was a perfect ending of our week. We needed a great meal. They open for lunch at noon as we were rudely informed when we called from the porch at 11:53. Given the attitude, the lackluster menu and the fact that, at noon no one came to open the door knowing we were there, we took it as a sign of more of the same subpar service we've always gotten here and we all left. read more

This was a delightful and delicious meal. I had the best soft shell crabs of my life. The salad that came alongside it was exceptional and the crabs were super fresh with such a light fry that I could not taste it was fried. They made my kid a fried egg to have alongside her cheese plate that was so much more than a cheese plate. It had an amazing pistachio butter that tasted like dessert, strawberries, a cherry compote, nuts, and several kinds of cheese, including the most amazing goat cheese. My husband got the fried chicken, which he loved. I thought it could have been better with some spice in the breading. The oysters were amazing and even the bread was good. Service was attentive. My wife and I had lunch at the Cold Spring Grange today and it was marvelous. The food was simply amazing, not your ordinary fare. We started with a fruit gazpacho that was delightful. It was naturally sweet but not overly so, and beautifully presented. We then shared a flash fried sweet pepper dish which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our entree was shrimp and grits which was perfectly made. The shrimp were large and fresh, and the grits were smooth and nicely spiced. We topped everything off with a home made key lime tart laced with a blueberry sauce. I loved it. We will definitely be back. read more

A few days after Christmas, our friend had her 50th birthday dinner at this place. Officially, they were closed for the season. But they were agreeable with opening for this party. So already, I'm thinking this place is a cut above. I was right. Dinner was several courses, served up by the chef and his family. Appetizers were endive and radicchio leaves, along with celery stalks. Onto each piece, the chef piped a floret of bleu cheese mouse; garnished with bacon bits and red cabbage slivers. The next course was salad and semolina bread. The salad was mainly spinach, which I like. Assorted other greens were in the mix along with almond slivers and a vinaigrette. The real surprise were the pomegranate seeds. What an excellent foil to the tartness of the dressing. Plenty of butter and grated cheese was served up, too. Platters of crab cakes came next. Whoa! I broke one open and it was loaded with lump meat. Yum! My son, who's super finicky when it comes to food, inhaled several. After the cakes came twice baked potatoes and sliced filet. Those spuds were super creamy and had baked cheese on top. The meat was done to perfection; everyone raved about it. And you had a choice of rare or medium pieces. I had some of each and it was so succulent. At this point we're all in a food coma, when out comes dessert, perfectly timed. Instead of a traditional cake, we had scratch cupcakes. There were vanilla and chocolate. Each one had either lemon or peanut butter cream frosting. Those toppings were creamy, dense, and just mildly sweet. It really let the lemon and peanut butter flavors come through. An utterly fabulous dining experience that ended too soon. You must go if you're anywhere nearby. read more
